"You think it's funny to mess with something like that?" Rose continued yelling. She reached into her bag and threw her notebook at Indy. "You think it's funny to tease some one about their parents? Ones they only got to see once every few years? I'm sorry my parents are just really anxious to get grandchildren before they die!" she stormed off and mumbled stuff in various languages.

As Rose stormed off, she remembered she still had the rod of life. If Indy wanted it back, she was going to get an apology out of him. After a while, she just sat down and took a closer look at the artifact.

Indy looked at her. "Of course I appreciate you, Rose. Without you and Peter I wouldn't have gotten any of those artifacts," he retorted. "And by the way, I never take credit for my findings. I return them to museums and go right back to the college." He crossed his arms. He never liked being known as a hero, and hated when others accused him of it.

Indy thought for a moment. In retrospect, he was never good at showing his feelings. He did appreciate Rose and Peter, but he had never showed it. He sighed. "I... I have none. I've never showed you that I did, but I do. I'm sorry, I've always been terrible in sharing things. Even with people who help me." He looked down.

Indy stood up as well, relieved. As much as he hated to admit that Rose was right about it, Indy was proud. Apologies were not his strong suit, and neither were matters of feeling. He led Rose back to the group. "Okay, boys, and Rose, we have to find my good friend, Kareem Abdul Jabaar."

Because it was hot, Rose took off the unneccisary parts of the outfit and put the head dress back on. It was a good idea to keep the sun off her head, and light colors reflected the sun's rays better than darker colors. "Don't worry. I can ask for directions." she said, fixing her bag and heading into the streets. "Stay close!" she yelled over the crowd.

To those who didn't know her, Rose seemed like just another citizen. She had spent years mastering the different dialects of Arabic, for each country varied slightly. At the moment, she was arguing with a merchant in perfect Egyptian dialect.

Indy couldn't help but laugh as Rose tried to coax some information from the vendors. They kept walking through the town, and Indy looked for his friend, when suddenly, a voice from an alley called out: "My friend! Come in here!"

Indy eyed the alleyway suspiciously, but walked in carefully. He was shocked to see his friend Kareem Abdul Jabaar, standing amidst his many, many wares, smiling with his arms outstretched. "Kareem! Good to see you, buddy!" Kareem embraced him. "Ah, Indy! So good to see you here. What brings you to Cairo?" Indy pointed at Rose holding the Rod of Life. "I'm looking for a treasure. Could you tell me where I can find a John Ruthers anywhere?"

Kareem stroked his chin in thought. "Hmmm... The name rings a bell... American?" "English," Indy corrected. "Ah, yes! An English gentleman came in here to browse my wares. He said he was a collector of sorts." Indy smiled. "Yes! That's our man." Kareem scratched his head. "But I cannot, for the life of me, remember where he was staying..."

"<I'll tell you if you buy some fruit!>" Exhasperated, Rose bought a single fruit. "<He's right there. Where he man in the hat is standing.>"

Rose thanked the merchant and got next to Indy. "You want some fruit?"

Jefferson continued looking around, enjoying the scenery. He noticed how Rose spoke Arabic so easily and comfortably. "Now I see where Indy is coming from," he said to himself, feeling so lost among the foreign language.

Pete walked into the bazaar when he realized something. "Dammit, I forgot to get a fez while I was in Istanbul!" He couldn't do anything about it now. All he could do now was find this guy. Hopefully this would turn out better than Belgrade in '23...
