Those two, what are they doing?
After the movie ended, the two of them went off while Alice was still packing her stuff.
Alice decided not to go look for them and spy on them.
She'd find out anyway.
She looked around, and noticed Stephen sitting with an obvious hole in a newspaper.
Alice sighted and walked up to him.
She ignored the fact that he was talking to someone and tapped him on the shoulder.
'What are you doing?'
It was actually obvious what he was doing, he was spying some people's private lives.

Stephen was never fully comfortable with relationships anymore. He had been in one with an old friend named Karoline that ended quite terribly which didn't help his confidence. Even before then, any relationships didn't last very long.
