"Alright, thanks again for that information. We just might catch him yet," Jury said before the phone call ended.

This was a peculiar turn of events. Not only had it revealed the mystery behind some of the lingering questions, it had also created some new ones. Why Christmas Trees of all things? What was the true motive behind the slayings? Why did it end with Maya Fey? Unhappy with still so many questions and so little time left, she decided to return to her office and buckle down. Jotting down her number on a sticky note, she slapped it on the front door and gave a polite wave to Edgar before heading off.

She drove to the FBI building and quickly climbed the stairs to her office, ignoring the looks of her fellow agents. In truth, she didn't spend too much time getting to know them. She knew George Huang mainly because they worked in similar circles and she enjoyed speaking with Fox Mulder... mainly because no one else would. The basement of the building could be a surprisingly welcoming place to retreat to. Returning once more to the comfort of her office, she felt better able to concentrate. Pushing the remains of the previous night's take-out dinner into the waste bin, she sat down and began reviewing the files.

"In total, three males and two females. If we include Maya as a potential victim, that evens out the male to female ratio," she said after pushing the record button on her tape recorder. "Running a search of newspaper articles proved fruitless, checking list of relatives instead..."

She frowned at what she saw. It seemed like she was close to something, but had come to a dead end.

"All relatives related or closely acquainted to law enforcement officials or attorneys with the exception of Miss Holly Knight, who we now know to have ties to the Mafia," Jury noted. She glared at her computer screen as though doing so might force some hidden information from it. "Hmm... taking an alternate theory. Scratch Miss Knight from the list and all victims have a common factor. New theory: Miss Knight was killed not as an intended victim, but because she knew too much about the killings. Running with this new theory, one must wonder if Maya Fey will be the last victim."

Viola Cadaverini looked down solemnly at Holly's photograph. She was holding a personal funeral for her.... but she always wore black so her attire was the same as always. Memories started to drift back to her...

Holly Knight was the only person Viola ever cared for, besides her grandfather and Don Tigre. Holly's father had gotten mixed up with the Cadaverinis and got killed by another syndicate. After that, Viola met her. There was something about her that astounded Viola.... it was probably the zest of life that girl carried with her that she never had. Viola's parents had gotten killed in a terrible accident just a few years before, and it changed her. Her personality turned grim and she had gained an apathy for life.... But this girl, after losing her father in such a horrible way, kept happy and positive through it all.

How could this be...? Viola thought. Then she started talking to Holly and they eventually became friends: Holly enthusiastic and Viola reluctant. Viola was a completely different person when Holly was around.... Bruto remarked that Viola only genuinely smiled in Holly's prescence. But then Viola had gotten into that car accident... and when she regained conciousness months later, Holly was gone. Her grandfather told her that she was trying to find out about her father's killer. Viola accepted this and left Holly alone... but now she regretted it.

After the whole Furio Tigre situation ended with his arrest, Viola went searching for Holly. But when she finally found her..... she had become a victim of the Silver Bell Slayings. Such a bright soul had been extinguished in a moment. She had never been able to even say goodbye...

Viola stood up and walked out of her room. One of her grandfather's men greeted her in the hallway.

"Here are the papers you wanted, my lady," he said respectfully, handing her a file folder. Viola looked through the papers.... yes, this is exactly what she wanted....

Although she was aware that this could easily be an irrational stage in her grieving, Viola could not escape the feeling that there was more reason behind Holly's death than what everyone thought. She managed to get copies of important papers in her house. Her gloomy gaze deepened as she read through some of the papers...

"The police may be receiving my help... whether they like it or not..."

Ayame stepped off the train and entered the village. It was a humble little town nearly void of technology. Another trait was fairly obvious. There were no men. "That's a tiny bit odd..." She proceed to get a map from the residents. Apparently this Maya Fey was of extreme importance to the village. She entered the manor and found nothing special. She walked into the "channeling chamber" and stared in awe at the decor.

"They must be serious about this occult stuff..." She walked out before examining anything. She needed permission first. She tried to find someone in charge, but the manor was near empty. She waited outside... not noticing the blood spilling behind the folding screen...

Jury tugged distractedly on a lock of snowy hair. She didn't really enjoy the thought of doing what she had to do next. As an agent she had committed herself to the pursuit of justice, so working with the Mafia just didn't sit quite right.

"But I suppose it's not really working with them... I just need the information," she assured herself, whisking out of the office and to her car once more. "However if it's for the greater good, I suppose I'll have to deal with it."

Still, when she'd reached her destination, she hadn't shaken the feeling of guilt looming over her. The Cadaverini Family was, in fact, something that frightened her. Her position was about knowing what other people knew; being inside the mind of the criminal. But with such an organization, that was nearly impossible. They say people fear what they don't understand. She knew that better than most.

Shrugging further into her pea coat against the bitter cold, she pounded a fist on the door. She needed to know about Holly Knight.

"FBI, please open the door!" Jury shouted against the wind. "I need to speak with Miss Viola Cadaverini!"

"I am right here, Jury Lawright..." came the smooth poison of Viola Cadaverini's voice. She dismissed the gigantic man guarding the front door. "You may come in. You look.....rather cold."

However, Jury seemed more comfortable with the cold than entering the Cadaverini mansion. She stayed where she was.

"Very well..." Viola stood in the doorway and faced Jury. "...It's funny... I was about to see you myself. But you...... came to ask about Holly, did you not?"

Jury confirmed this.

Viola told her Holly's story. About her father's death.... and how she died right before Viola finally found her.

"She investigated alone. She did not want my...family... to become involved again. I apologize if you find this upsetting.... but I sent some of my grandfather's men to recover and copy Holly's personal papers....from the crime scene... I suspect that she was following the wrong lead and learned too much about a specific..... person. And somehow the person found out about her. She was investigating five people at the time of her.... death. These papers contain information she has gathered on these five people. And now.... Jury Lawright.... I entrust these papers to you. I am still willing to help you in any way possible. Even if the method is not to your liking... I hope this information will be helpful."

Jury felt a chill travel down her spine -- and she was sure it wasn't from the weather. Viola had appeared quite suddenly, throwing the normally alert agent off her guard. Casting a wary eye as the hulking guard disappeared, she was surprised to find the young woman had remembered her name. The invitation to enter, however, made her uneasy and she remained put.

It had seemed that they had begun to board the same train of thought and she listened intently as Viola delved into the sad tale of Holly Knight. Things began to click, one switch at a time.

"You're correct, I don't approve. However, at this current junction there is no room for my personal feelings on the matter. I'm entirely grateful for your help, Miss Cadaverini," Jury insisted, accepting the papers.

She stared at them in her hands for a long while, thoughts whizzing through her head. There would be answers here; she knew it. And if there weren't, it would give her some point to begin from. Tucking the papers inside her coat, she thought carefully about what she would say next.

"Miss Cadaverini... I feel that I should apologize for my behavior at the crime--... that is, for my behavior earlier," Jury began, already beginning to turn a shame-faced red. "Operating on the side of the law that I do sometimes blinds me to the fact that even those who I might consider to be my enemies may have the same feelings that I do. It was... cruel of me to treat you so coldly when you had lost someone dear to you. I suppose I didn't understand just how dear she was. That being said, I will do anything within my power to see that Miss Knight's killer is brought to justice."

She didn't enjoy apologizing to a mob boss's granddaughter, but the apology was entirely necessary. She'd been called cold before, and she supposed sometimes she could be. But the fact of the matter was, Viola hadn't deserved it, no matter whose granddaughter she was.

...Viola smiled. It wasn't her usual grim smile, but one that was true and warm. Viola hadn't smiled like that in almost a full year...

"Thank you, Miss Lawright. If you ever need to contact me, here's my number..."
Viola handed a blank business card to Jury, on one side a phone number was penned in neat handwriting.

"...Farewell. Please find Holly's killer....."

Viola slowly closed the door as Jury began to leave.

Phoenix was aware that The guy was right - despite his amateurish style, the kid definately had something in his head that worked.

" Right now, we can't really do much else...if that's what it takes for us to keep Maya safe, then I say we do what it takes - she's been through enough in one lifetime, thanks! "

Phoenix gave a slight chuckle - damn, that was out of place...but he couldn't help it when he realised that Maya had probably been in more trouble than he'd cared to remember.
He almost thought what her sister would say were she still alive right now.

" Anyhow - Guess all we can hope for now is for Gumshoe to drop off the bug sweeper and for us to find something, ANYTHING, that may help give us that one Case-breaking clue... "

It wasn't even his case - there was no client, and he wasn't hired for anything...but he still felt like he needed to assist in any way he could. Staying still when something like this was going on was against his nature, and he did NOT intend on letting his instincts go to waste at a time like this.

((No problem, guys! I totally understand the school situations. If you happen to post once every couple of days, that's more then enough. Priorities first, right? Take care of yourselves first and worry about this last! :phoenix: ))

Jury nodded curtly, accepting the card from Viola.

"You should have mine as well. There are a variety of numbers there, so you should be able to reach me at any time," she said before turning to leave. "Thank you very much for your time, Miss Cadaverini. I'll let you know of any developments."

With a swift smile, she turned, climbed into her car, and drove away. The encounter still seemed strange. Viola was nothing like the girl Jury's mind had made her out to be. For someone who devoted their life to knowing who other people were and what they were thinking, she'd been terribly short sighted. It was an embarrassment, really. Yet, in the back of her mind, the agent in her knew that if anyone at her office got wind she was working with the Cadaverini Family, the rumors would fly.

"That's not what matters right now," she reminded herself. "Seek justice for the victims. I can't be caring about public opinion while this guy is still out there..."

She nearly drove off the road as the ring of her cell ripped her from her thoughts.

//-----------------------------//

Judge nodded to Phoenix's sentiments. He was right, of course. Even if he didn't know Maya personally, he knew people who knew her and he knew about everything they'd all been through. He sympathized, even if he refused to show it, because he knew just what these kinds of things could--and did--do to families. She'd had more than enough pain and if he could do anything to prevent it, he would. And he knew Wright would as well.

"I understand this isn't your case and that otherwise you wouldn't have anything to do with it, so I appreciate how cooperative you're being," he stated. "I realize it might have been easier on your minds if you didn't have to know about the situation you're in, so you'll forgive me if I came without thinking. I suppose I just thought that if it were me in that position, I would wish someone to tell me straight away. I..."

He paused suddenly, feeling anxious. What time was it? He checked his watch. It had been almost three and a half hours since he had spoken to his sister. Fear and panic choked his heart like a vice grip and he struggled to maintain his composure. He couldn't afford to lose his cool, not now. He just had to focus. She was fine. He didn't need to call her. He opened his mouth to say something but found no words would come out. His hands shook. He felt hot, dizzy.

"I..." he forced the word out, though it emerged in a pathetic squeak. "E-Excuse me..."

He moved quickly, stepping outside the office and leaning against the wall. He fumbled for his cell phone, pressing the speed dial.

"Please. Please pick up. Please pick up, please pick up..." he begged the receiver.

"Hello?"

"Jury! Jury, where are you? You didn't call. You promised you'd call," he said quickly.

"I'm sorry, I was caught up in the case. I was interviewing a source."

"But you didn't... what if you... you said--you promised... I-I... I..." he blubbered, his breath coming almost too quickly for his lungs to handle.

"Judge? Jay-Jay, calm down. It's alright. I'm sorry, okay? I'm so sorry, but I was busy so I didn't notice the time. You need to calm down. Just take a deep breath, I'm not going anywhere. I'm just across town."

He pressed his palms into his eyes, doing as she asked. He was overreacting. He knew it, he knew it every time it happened, but he couldn't stop it. He couldn't stop the feeling that she would leave him, too. He didn't know why she stayed sometimes.

"Better?"

"Y-Yes. I'm... I'm sorry," he sighed.

"Don't worry about it. Listen, we'll talk later, alright? I'll make dinner."

"Right. I'll see you then. But I'll talk to you before that, right? Right. Bye," he said. shoving the cell back in his pocket.

He ran a hand distractedly through his curly hair, palms still slick with sweat from his nervous attack. He glared sullenly at the office door. He almost didn't want to go back in after such a pathetic scene. But then, something caught his eye. He frowned, squinting. Was there... someone in the bushes?

Edgar had been watching Judge rush out of the office and talk to someone...Edgar was going to go into the office when he too noticed the bushes move a bit...It was a cold night and a bit windy but the wind may not of been able to make that bush move... Edgar slowly get out his car with his right hand on his pistol just in case and slowly approached Judge.

"Hello....You seemed to have just left that office so I guess it is safe to assume That Mr. Wright is in?"

Edgar was warry of two things, this man who just ran out of the office and the bush. The man seemed to be more dangerous but who knows what is in the bush...or if this man was very strong at all.

((Finally!! Not a very good one but....))

Maya watched the prosecutor leave and then turned to Phoenix. "Hey Nick? Do you think that they'll let us go out for burgers? I'm kind of hungry you know...." The spirit medium's stomach growled in agreement. "I mean, if I starve to death, then there's no point in even bringing the bug vacuum because I'll eat all the bugs!" She laughed and her stomach growled again.

Ayame couldn't find the owner of the Fey manor anywhere. "I guess I'll have to ask Maya..." She brought up her cell phone and began dialing Phoenix Wright's number. "I'm sure Jury or someone would have discussed something with her..."

As the phone dialed, someone approached Ayame with a malicious grin. They raised the sacred urn just above Ayame head and crashed it down...

Phoenix glanced at Maya at the suggestion of Burgers...he was about to come up with an out-loud sarcastic shot at the idea, when...

The overly-loud and tinny sound of his cellphone interrupted the quiet moment.
Phoenix blinks, reaching into his pocket and answers it after finding it...certainly very bemused. More so, in fact.

"Wright Law and Co...How..."

At the moment he said that last word, he heard a crash...and then the phone hung up with a loud click.

" ...Maya, I don't like the way this is going. Damn it all...Hurry up, Gumshoe! "

Dolores Sident turned off her TV.

I might as well try to get some sleep...

She started to get up, forcing Pumpkin Pie to get off of her. But the cat seemed agitated and his hackles started to rise.

"...Pumpkin?" Dolores whispered worriedly. Then she heard a sound that alerted her. It was the unmistakable sound of little bells. Suddenly someone grabbed Dolores from behind in a stranglehold. Pumpkin Pie hissed visciously at the intruder. She felt something hit her head and the world around her faded to black.

When she regained consciousness, she was laying down on a straw mat in what appeared to be a large traditional Japanese-style house. Her throat burned like she had just dranken something vile. Her thoughts were scrambled by a throbbing headache. She heard a voice, but could not tell where it came from.

"I apologize, Ms. Sident, but Christmas is coming and you're going to help with the decorations."

Someone grabbed her from behind again, but this time it was more of an embrace. She could not move. Her body would not listen to anything her half-working brain was demanding. So she stood, petrified in the Silver Bell Slayer's arms, and could do nothing but listen as the killer whispered in her ear...

"I'm almost finished. You have to help me finish..."

---------------------------------------------------------------

She snapped out of her trance.

Dolores looked down at her own hands, shocked. A woman laid on the ground, knocked out cold. Blood seeped from her dirty blonde hair into the straw-matted floor. Ceramic shards were scattered around her, from an urn that has been broken four times now.

"W-W-Wha...?" She struggled to form words as her mind put two and two together.

"What have I done?!"

((It's somewhat AU, so it doesn't follow a specific timeline. Things may or may not have happened, it's up for whoever is controlling what character to decide. And like I said, don't worry about posting, we all have other things keeping us busy!))

Judge jumped, spinning on his heel to come face to face with Edgar. The officer had surprised him immensely, and at a time where he wasn't in the mood for surprises. He attempted to slap a particularly intimidating look on his face, but really only succeeded in coming off agitated and flustered.

"Officer I would appreciate it if you stopped treating me as hostile and moved your hand away from your weapon," he barked, folding his arms across his chest. "I'm with the Prosecutors Office and I've been watching Miss Fey while waiting for your office to send an appropriate guard along."

He flashed his ID for effect, looking somewhat annoyed. His eyes danced once more towards the bush. The rustling seemed to have ceased. Perhaps it had just been an animal? Or the wind? No, no, he didn't feel the least bit comfortable about it. There was something strange about it and he wanted to know just what that something was.

"Now, if you're quite done wasting my time, you could perhaps apply yourself to the matter at hand. I want a full search of the premises, starting with that set of bushes, Officer," he sniffed, sending one more glare in his direction for effect before marching back inside Wright & Co. Law Offices. He cleared his throat, adjusting his tie somewhat needlessly. "I apologize. Urgent call, you know... I needed to take it."

Best way to write off a weakness? Come back twice as arrogant and stuck-up as before. Most people become to annoyed to notice.

//---------------------------------------//

Jury whipped out her phone, dialing Ayame's number. She frowned as she reached the voice mail. Hmm, that was odd! Usually Ayame was fairly quick to answer her phone and it was unlike her to let anything slip to voice mail. She tried calling twice more to the same effect.

Maybe she's just really wrapped up with her own investigation? I'd better head to Kurain Village. She'll want to take a look at these files as well... Jury thought as she headed in the appropriate direction.

She felt somewhat rude and intrusive the way her car engine caused such a ruckus in the peaceful atmosphere of the village. Closing the door as quietly as she could, she tucked the files under her shoulder and set off to find her friend. It seemed even more bitterly cold so far away from the city and she was thankful for her muffler and gloves. Tilting up he brim of her flat cap, she scratched her head, her breath appearing in white puffs in the air.

"Now where could she--?"

Her spoken thought was cut-off by a crash. Lapsing into her agent mode, she reached for her gun and pressed herself against the wall. What had that noise been? Was someone in danger? Drawing the gun, she took a breath and prepared for the worst. Whipping around, she stood in the door frame with her gun raised and aimed.

"FBI, drop your weap--...!" Jury shouted, her proclamation dying in her throat. She stared disbelievingly at the scene before her: Ayame lay bleeding on the ground with Dolores hovering over in a dazed manner. "Miss... Miss Sident? What's happened here?!"

Dolores stared wide-eyed at the sudden entry of the FBI agent.

"J-Jury...? I.... I.... Oh my god..... the killer.... made me do this. I'm so, so sorry... I can't..."

She felt like the walls were closing in around her. She couldn't breathe... Her eyelids fluttered as her body started to sway. For the second time that night Dolores fell to the ground, unconcious.

Piece of....Might as well do it so he stays quiet...Freaking jerk.

"All right Judge, I search these bushes first. Then I'll go in and introduce Mis Fey to her First Guard."

Edgar grudgingly took his hand of his gun and opened up the bushes...No one was there but there seemed to be slight traces of..Something sitting there. It could of been a human or maybe an animal, Edgar did not know as he was not trained to find out this type of stuff.

"Huh...Seems something was siting here...I can't tell for the life of me if it was a human or an animal. You better get someone who is more qualified to look at it if you want to know. Now if you excuse me, I must start my job of protecting Miss Fey."

"Shit..." Jury cursed scrambling forward.

Dropping to her knees, she made a check of Ayame first. She most likely had a severe concussion and, due to the bleeding, would require quite a few stitches. Head wounds tended to bleed more than others, so she couldn't be sure of their severity at the given moment. Hurriedly removing her muffler, she began to wrap it around her friend's head, eyes transfixed on the blood that slicked her hands. After securing her make-shift bandage, she removed her coat and draped it over Ayame, not knowing how long she'd been exposed.

Moving next to Dolores, Jury gave her a quick once over. There was a large bump on the back of her head and judging by the oddly dazed look in her eye before she fainted, Jury was willing was willing to bet she had a bit of a concussion herself. She'd most likely passed out from the shock of it all. Looking distractedly about the room, she noticed some cushions, most likely used for sitting during meditation, and grabbed one to prop the medical examiner's head up. The agent fumbled for her cell phone.

"This is FBI Agent Jury Lawright, badge number XS13R5507, requesting immediate medical assistance at Kurain Village. I have two wounded females, both with head trauma, one bleeding heavily," Jury said hurriedly into her phone, eyes dancing about the room. "Suspect is armed and dangerous and may still be on the premises; requesting back-up. Will search until help arrives."

She snapped her phone shut and stood quickly, holding her gun ready at her side. Sneaking a last glance at Ayame and Dolores, she stepped cautiously into the frigid winter air. Her heavy breathing materialized in condensed white puffs as she shivered, sorely missing her coat. Her boots crunched through the snow as she searched; he was still there, somewhere.

Maya watched Nick with concern, her eyes growing as she listened first to the brief conversation on the phone (If you could call that a conversation) and then Nick's next words. "Nick, What happened? Was that Gumshoe? Is he okay? NIIIIIIIIIIIIICK!!! What if Gumshoe is dead? We've gotta do something about this!!!! I don't like staying here!"

Maya forgot all about being hungry for Burgers with that one phone call. She was much MUCH more concerned with what had happened to Gumshoe, if anything at all.

As much as she was eager for the protection unit thing to show up, she really wanted Gumshoe to show up with his Bug thing. She loved playing with stuff like that. If Gumshoe wasn't going to show up with it...

Maya was going to cry.

((For now, I figure we can volley any unclaimed characters, i.e. Gumshoe, Edgeworth, Maggey, etc., back-and-forth since no one seems to want to claim them. Sharing is caring, right? That way we can take care of whatever we need. Oh, feel free to do the same with our Silver Bell Slayer as well. I have some ideas, but they won't come into play for a while, so have fun with him. ;P))

Judge snorted as Edgar inspected the bushes, not thoroughly impressed. The guy was greener than grass shoots in April. He looked away, uninterested in the fledgling's floundering, and more interested in Wright and Miss Fey. He listened as Wright picked up his his phone, looking confused when he received no response. Well, Gumshoe tended to be a bit of a... well he wasn't the most organized of people.

He glared as Edgar showed up at the doorway, mimicking his speech from earlier. "Right, because based on your investigation of the bushes, I'm sure you'll do a marvelous job. Well, get in here."

Judge tugged distractedly at a lock of his hair as he watched Maya. She seemed to be getting a small case of cabin fever. Who wouldn't in this situation? Turning his back, he whipped out his cell phone, dialing furiously.

"Gumshoe! Where the hell have you been? It doesn't take an hour to get from the precinct to--... What do you mean you couldn't find it?! How does it take a blasted hour to find one of your own tools?" he barked into the receiver. "I don't care if you're parked just outside, you had better come running through that door!"

Clicking the cell shut and shoving it moodily into his pocket, he narrowed his eyes as Gumshoe threw the door open and came tearing inside the office, nearly ripping the door off its hinges in the process. His chest heaved as he held the bug detector aloft, looking somewhere between anxious and proud.

"I got what you wanted, pal," Gumshoe wheezed to Phoenix, trying to avoid Judge's fiery glare.

Must resist the urge to punch this guy in the face...

Edgar really did not like Judge now..He could feel that Judge felt superior to him...And Edgar hated that...But he had a job to do protecting Miss Fey and this jerk would not stop him. Judge forced Edgar inside and Edgar quickly started to walk about the office to get a feel of the layout. It had not been very long since his inspection when Gumshoe bursted inside.

After a while, Ayame felt conscience. She got up, ignoring the pain in her head due to trauma. "Damn... that wasn't pleasent..." She walked out into the frigid cold and tried to double back. She didn't know her wound was open. She held onto the door for support. Then it happened. The jangle ringed throughout the village, causing all the inhabitants to look up. Ayame was now reaching for her phone again. Instead of calling, however, she simply typed, "NIARUK SI EHT TXEN EMIRC ENECS..." As a backwards code. She sent it to everyone on her "WORK" file, including Jury. She fell down due to more blood loss.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
At which point, a figure stood above her and smiled that same malicious smile. He took her limp body and brought inside the Winding Way, were a beautiful dress of silk and white lay about. They said to Ayame's unconcious body, "You shall be the witness to my most beautiful 'date' yet. As soon as I fetch her that is..."

Well, He had waited long enough. Edgar walked up to Phoenix and Maya and presented himself to the both of them.

"Sorry to interupt but, Officer Edgar Shiragami reporting in as Miss Fey's first Bodyguard."

After presenting himself Edgar went around and started to lock all of the windows he could find. Didn't want the killer to come in through a window now...

Judge sighed slightly as he watched Edward. He had the feeling that the officer was either new to the job... or just really was that incompetent. He and Gumshoe should get along well.

"Officer Shinigami," he began.

"Uh... actually, sir, that's Shiragami. Edgar Shiragami," Gumshoe pointed out.

"...close enough," Judge grumbled. "Perhaps locking the windows may have some strange sense of value in your mind, but you must realize that if our killer wants to get in, locking the windows will hardly stop him. Rather than further waste our valuable time, I suggest you apply yourself to something more worthwhile such as, say, actually standing guard over Miss Fey."

Arrogant? Sure. Demeaning? Definitely. It wasn't as though he derived any pleasure from it, but if he was aiming for Chief Prosecutor, he couldn't afford to be soft. Especially not in this case. Miss Fey was, well... it was different. She wasn't just some other victim. This wasn't just some other case. He would attain justice, no matter how far he had to push others--or himself.

//------------------------------------//

Jury inquired among the females inhabitants of Kurain Village, as the men were off to work, as to whether they'd seen anyone strange. It was difficult going, for few people were even out or in a position to notice if anyone had come by. After nearly thirty minutes of this, she begrudgingly turned back and began to head toward where she'd left Dolores and Ayame. And then her phone rang.

"Of all the... wait, Ayame?" she mumbled, flipping it open and finding the text. "What the hell? She must be delirious. I'd better get back before... Shit! It's a scrambled message!"

Taking off, the short agent began to run as fast as her legs would carry her, kicking up snow as she did so. When she finally reached her destination, breathless, she was mortified to find her friend was missing. Checking first on Dolores, she was at least glad to find the woman seemed to be in stable condition. It would be a while yet before the medical services arrived...

And then her eye caught something. A trail of blood. She wasn't a betting kind of gal, but she was willing to stake her life that it belonged to Ayame. Keeping her gun drawn, she silently followed the trail. It lead her to the Winding Way. Bile rose to the back of her throat at the sight of a man standing over Ayame. She allowed to him to hear her cock her gun, and he spun around.

"FBI. Step away from her and I won't shoot you," Jury said seriously.

The man smirked. It was a strange, amused sort of smirk where the right side of his lips quirked higher than the left. He seemed fairly average. Average height, lean muscular build, slightly tanned. He had scruffy, rusty red hair and soft brown eyes. He didn't seem the kind to commit such an act.

"Oh, I don't think so. You see, I'm not finished here. I can't just quit when I'm so very close to the finale, now, can I?" he said with a chuckle.

Dolores finally regained conciousness. Her eyelids fluttered as the paneled ceiling of the Fey Manor came into view. She pressed her hand to the back of her throbbing head as she sat up. She looked around and her stomach tied up in knots when she saw the drying pool of blood next to her. But there was a trail of it...

The examiner stood up and instictively followed the blood trail to the Winding Way. When she saw that there were people there, she quickly hid behind the entrance and carefully peered around the corner.

The woman she had knocked out was laying on the ground, while Jury stood there with her gun pointed at a third person.

...It was him.

Maya watched the funny bodyguard run around locking the windows. She had to agree with the prosecutor that locking them really would do as much good as hiding a hamburger on a plate in front of Maya. Not any good at all! Then the Burger would really disappear!

Maya's stomach growled loudly in protest of not having any food. "Uh... any ways... could we go get some burgers? I'm starving!! I'll probably die of starvation before the killer gets here."

....I can feel it...They feel I am an idiot....Gr....Least Gumshoe seems nice. ...Wait, Officer Shinigami? Officer Death God?...I hope that name doesn't stick...

Edgar stopped locking all the windows and listened to Maya's plight....Hamburgers? Edgar had not eaten at all today and he could could go for some burgers...

"A Hamburger? That sounds pretty good actually...I haven't eaten at all today... Do you got any meat here? I could make some if you got some meat."

Edgar wasn't lying, he could make a Hamburger if Mr. Wright had buns and burger meat. Edgar hoped he did as taking miss fey out the building could very possibly be a bad idea...Or it could be a good idea too.....The Killer would not know where to find here for a little while...

The enigmatic slayer wasn't exactly afraid of the gun. "My dear, it isn't a smart move to overstep your place." He took out a small pair of bells. They gleamed in the small light given off and reflected the barren white snow. "The auidence shouldn't step on stage unless directed." He pointed to Ayame. "She was one of the lucky members of the auidence who gets to play the part of the bridesmaid." He turned his head and looked at Jury with vivid wide eyes. "And now... if you try to skip to the finale... then we all shall go out with a bang." He indicated the ground. "At the moment, we are standing on a firework bananzaa. One false step, and the curtain shall fall on us." He borught out the trigger. "Now let me leave in piece... or you will have a scene to remember."

Dolores' eyes grew to the size of saucers and she gripped the doorjam like her life depended on it.

The slayer turned to the direction of the door. It was obvious from the way the knob was turned that someone was there. He paid no mind to it as he lesuirely walked along the path. "Oh, and if you try to shot me. Be aware that my body has a pacemaker with a detenation switch. If I die, this place goes boom anyway." He took the beautiful gown and walked causually out of the garden, passing Jury, Ayame, and soon Dolores. He turned and smiled largely at Dolores. "You have been a great help miss Sident." He laughed and walked out of the complex, until he was out of range.

Dolores gaped, speechless. Soon the anger started to well up in her.

She couldn't stop that murdering bastard! And worse yet, he had used her to help him. He wasn't going to blow up Kurain, but there he was, going down to town to kill another innocent person. Maybe it would've been better if he had just detonated the bomb right there... Dolores was not a very brave person, but maybe dying would have been better than letting him go free...

But now it was too late for her to do anything.

Judge frowned slightly at the mention of cooking. Neither he nor his sister had any real talent when it came to cooking. He couldn't count the number of Thanksgivings they'd eaten turkey that was burnt to a crisp. Usually Freud wouldn't even touch it... the poor dog. They lived primarily off of take-out, so it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he keeled over from a massive, cholesterol induced heart attack.

"While leaving the office has its advantages, I'm going to have to advise against it. It's true that it would make it more difficult for the killer to locate you, Miss Fey, but in the same sense it would make it more difficult for us to protect you," Judge reasoned, slipping his hands into his pockets. "I would have to agree with Officer Shinigami's sentiments. If Mr. Wright does not have the proper ingredients available, I would be glad to leave briefly to purchase them."

He stopped and stared pointedly at Gumshoe. "Or send someone else to. In the meantime, we should set about searching for any bugs that could be hidden."

//----------------------------------//

Jury pursed her lips, stiffly lowering her gun as the killer brazenly walked by her. She knew he had them in the palm of her hand. There was no way of telling if he was telling the truth, but if she chose to take a guess and shot him, she could very well blow them all to kingdom come. She wasn't willing to risk innocent lives just to catch him. And yet, it burned her up to let him walk away. Putting her gun back in it holster, she watched as he walked away.

"Then let me just say that we will catch you," Jury assured him. "I won't allow you to harm anyone else. Not on my guard."

"Hmm... and yet, on your guard, I was able to abduct Miss Sident and injure both her and your friend," the killer noted thoughtfully.

Jury glared, not at all pleased with his mocking.

"Oh, I know what you're thinking. Something along the lines of... I know your face, so even if you get away, I can put out a proper profile... am I correct?" he proposed. "Do you know why I'm allowing you to live despite this? Well, if I kill you now, it will be no fun at all. Take care, Agent Lawright."

Clenching her teeth, she watched him disappear into the snow covered landscape, before turning to the others.

"Miss Sident? Are you alright?" she asked worriedly, moving to support her. "I'm sorry. I should have..."

She shook her head. No use wasting time with it.

"Let's get the both of you some medical attention. Those paramedics should have been here by now..."

{{ I've been slipping. XD Anyway, despite all the background reading I've yet to do on this, Here be a much Delayed Nick-post. }}

Phoenix looked over at Maya with a smirk - the girl's stomach was pretty unchoosy with the timing as far as Burgers were concerned. He was also aware that now was as good a time as any to actually get some food - who knew how long the situation was going to last, and the fact that Gumshoe was there was certainly something that was a lot more useful in achieving this goal. Nodding, the attorney spoke.

"I guess the Aye's have it - Gumshoe'll have to go and grab the burgers...I know you've been helpful lots already, pal, but right now we need you." He looks at the detectives direction and smiled slightly. "But hey, I'll pay for them - and you can stick around and have a couple when they're done...I'd feel bad if we didn't at least offer something."

Phoenix walked over to the rarely-used kitchen area of the office...he'd never really needed it much apart from the kettle and the sink - his was the oh-so-familiar microwave or takeout style of life.

" We should probably also think about what sleeping arrangements we're making...not that I expect anyone to be all that sleepy, but you can never be too sure how things go, late at night. "

Dolores nodded to Jury solemnly and she helped her carry Ayame to Jury's car. Dolores didn't say a word on their way down to town.
