"Hurry up now," Gesturing to Arianna and Nathan. He led his guests down a music hall, accompanied with everything but a maestro, through the Great Library, and down a jade hall, where 6 rooms sat, each with one name of the 6 competitors upon its door. "Here we are! Your dorms await. But, just to prep you for the tasks at hand, here's a simple little riddle to find who goes where. Sure, you could try each key until you find the right one... but where's the fun in that?" He handed Elias a brown tabbed folder containing six identical keys with tags, "LP, LZ, A, Q, C, and S" on the end of each key, and a small letter. Howl chimed once more. "I will observe to see how everyone thinks and participates, but I will be a mute bird; I will offer no hints. I will only confirm 'yes' or 'no' once you think everyone has obtained their personal key. Good luck!"

Letter Contents:

Elias read the letter aloud as he glanced at the keys that he poured out into his hand. "{11T}? Any idea what that means?" He glanced at the doors, looking to see if there was any difference as he held out the keys, "Formality eh? Ladies first."

"Of course it says last first, but then it says formailty..." Elias stared at the letter, "Maybe it goes by last name? That sounds formal. And maybe..." He took out a notebook, "Maybe they want T to be the 11th letter of the alphabet, and so we're going to put T under the 11th letter."

Nathan caught up with the rest of the group, wondering why the 6th person wasn't there yet. Then, Mr. Ingmune guided them to their dorms, and presented them the riddle.

"Well, first, we should consider everything the letter gives out", he said. "For example, "Think not of a crypted message, but of the layout of such letters". That should mean there's no point in decoding it in any way. Then, "This may be the only time you would need to know a little something about each other". That seems to be of crucial importance. It means the answer lies between some details of ourselves. Then there's "Formality Counts-- Last comes first". This should be a clue, but right now I don't know of what, although I have my theories. And, lastly, "{11T}". Considering this letter was written by Mr. Ingmune, we should consider "11T" is the equivalent to his name, or his person, at least." He then paused, and thought.

"I think the first thing we should do is write down all of our names, and the 6 sets of letters." ((I mean LP, LZ, A, Q, C and S))

There are no numbers on these keys," Elizabeth rambled. "Anyway...My name is Elizabeth Axiom, attorney at law. And I think that, if last comes first, that would mean first comes last, right? And so...I think Mr. Werfel was right to grab the "A" key. So then, I believe that whoever has the next last name that is closest to Z would take the "C" key..."

"2 of the 6 are correct, but as for which are which, I will not say." He counted once more the heads in the group. He broke his smile for a minute. Five. "The 6th contestant still hasn't shown. Hmm..." He shook his head for a quick minute, and gave a keen eye towards the puzzled group.

"Has anyone here ever taken a stenographer's course? Something must be well known to master such a class. Hopefully someone knows a thing or two of such a thing." He stated, still holding a slight smile.

((First and Last names are on the doors. I used the wrong Trance of 'names'. I should have specified that 'one name' meant 'first and last name of one contestant.'))

Howl gave a successful smile. "Yes, that is correct. Well Done. Now, with that set of mind in store, rest assured today is a night of rest. Our competition will not start till tomorrow. So get in you rooms, get settled, and meet me down stairs in the Dining hall." He clasped his hands together and was about to head off, but turned back around. "Drat, I forgot you all don't know the entire layout of the manor. When you head back through the music hall, take the Ruby hall, and hang a quick left. That is the Dining Hall." Howl checked his watch. "It's about 5:40, so please be in the Dining hall by 7:30. Until then, feel free to roam around! Once again, congrats." Howl left the hall, leaving the group to themselves.

Werfel let out a great laugh. "That 11T and thing about formality was just to throw us off. I just ordered the "LP, LZ, A, Q, C, and S in the same order as our names ((in the first post)). The letters had absolutely no cryptic meaning at all!"

An interesting first puzzle. Looks like it won't be so easy getting my hands on that fortune.

((... that works too. Didn't notice they lay the same pattern. My logic was place the first latter of each last name on a keyboard, and move one key left. For the same first letters of a last name, use the second letter;

D=S))
