Would you mind doing an AJ version, instead?
Just about all of the prevalent AAI characters who'd make sense to appear will, in fact, be participating in this version.
Aside from that it feels a bit early for a spinoff, anyway, but at least with the AJ timeframe you'd have an entirely different cast of characters.

...Also, you might want to consider adding a new twist or two from the "deserted island" premise, just to make sure it doesn't feel too identical to this RP's plot. We'd get pretty bored of describing tropical islands in identical RP sessions! Maybe...instead of being on a tropical island, in your version, the characters are snowed into a haunted house in the middle of winter, or something? I don't know, you can toy around with your own ideas!

Okay. I think I'll make an AJ version as well, so there are three going on. And maybe in the AAI one, they all get stuck in the jungle? :karma:

No offense, Megan-Chan, but I think I'll just stick with this RP. Have 3 with similar plots, just with different characters seems really redundant to me.

EDIT: My attempts to edit the original post are for some reason instead creating new posts that quote my original post.
...I don't exactly understand what's going on or what I'm doing wrong, either.
Maybe the forum's messed up?

You guys, this is gonna be awesome!!

Just one question, since I never RPGed here before:

Script-style or Novel-style? Both is perfectly fine to me, I just want to know! ;-)

Personally, I'm favoring novel style. It works better with an RP that introduces a lot of foreign or unnatural elements (such as being stranded on a beautiful island) than script style, which tends to lean heavy on the dialogue and light on the description.

That being said, I'm not really sure if it will be necessary to impose a single style of writing on the rest of you. I'll write my intro in novel style, and you can respond to it however you feel is most appropriate.

Finally, I might "break" my own "guideline" and switch from Ron to Will Powers for my second character. My plan with Ron really doesn't work unless there's a Desiree, and I did not anticipate so few of you would be interested in roleplaying as my wife. I must be quite appalling!!! :will:

I'm with Pers on this one. Novel-style does lend itself to this particular kind of RP. I imagine the need to describe locations and events and feelings alot throughout this.

In all other communities where I am active, it's called "RPG", regardless of the used style of decription. :yuusaku: I mean RP stands for "Role Play" and the G is for "Game". So, since this, obviously, isn't reality (I don't wanna be stranded on an island in real life, meep...), this can still be called "RPG", right?

By the way, I personally favor Novel Style as well. It's better for... pretty much everything.

Script style is kinda... lazy. XD

...Weirdly enough, I've always just referred to the concept as "RP." For me the distinction was "RP" for interactive narratives, and "RPG" for interactive games (like Dungeons and Dragons style, where you're rolling the dice and building up your stats.)
Here we're basically writing a story together, but we're not really playing a "game," right?

...And now that we have thoroughly derailed this conversation into the depths of off-topic, I'll try to steer things back. Anyone know of one or two more decent writers who are itching to play fun roles?

We coul ask Asa Turney if she wants to join. I could imagine it being fun having her play with us!

Huh... I guess it depends on where you go. On Animexx.de and ZeldaEurope.de, this concept is called "RPG"... Although, those are both german sites, so this could be a regional thing...

Enjoy your kudos for now, good sir, but keep in mind that those praises will quickly turn to condemnations the minute Neni types anything to the effect of "I'm having so much fun with this RP, that I don't have quite as much time to complete the next Complete Turnabout chapter!"

OMG... You guys always make me blush anew... :bellboy:

I've been writting fanfiction for almost 4 years now and do really think that I'm a halfways decent writer... But ever since I started this one fanfic, I've been showered with praise. :udgy:
I dunno how to react anymore... On one hand, I feel obligated to give you the best quality of story that I can give now, at any cost... on the other hand it's the best motivation I could get... it makes writting that thing all the more fun...

Anyway, if anything, that RP will motivate me to write more, not less! I need more Ace Attorney themed stuff to keep my writting in-character! ;-)
By the way, the next chapter is already half done...

And yes, novel-styled posts are much better, IMO. If you consider yourself a helfway decent writer, Neni, then... well... I'm probably something like a 1/8 decent writer. ...Or less. :P

You know, this countdown is making me feel like I was lazy for choosing only one character when several others have 2. xD

But I am excited for the start of the RP... kinda nervous with so many people involved, but it ought to be fun.

I'm going to generally be somewhat lax in enforcing any kind of rules as to "who writes the next update" in the beginning (when we're all just introducing our characters to the island, anyway) but my intention is to eventually 1) divide the residents into various "teams" doing various "tasks" throughout the story (thus reducing the odds that written updates contradict each other) and 2) if necessary, I may request that everyone posts initially and OOC to "claim" the next update, which would then buy you more time to write it.

I think the main criticism of me as an "RP Administrator" will probably be that I'm a stickler for rules, but I find that the best RPs (in my experience) are well organized and have clearly defined rules for everyone to follow. Otherwise, it can quickly become a mess.

Anyway: I'm shutting down signups now, as promised. I'm also switching from :yuusaku: to :will: , as a lot of the "interesting dynamics" I wanted to toy around with Ron required the presence of Desiree on the island. Will Powers is a fairly important character anyway, and he should probably be present.

A few final tidbits:

A) This thread will edited to serve as a place for OOC comments. I'll be starting a new thread with the first update (or "chapter", or whatever you'd like to call it.) There will subsequently be two threads here in the forums for you to follow, one where we can indulge in OOC conversation and another where OOC talk will be prohibited (and where you'll only post narratives with your characters.)

I've always found this two-thread structure, combined with infrequent PM "newsletter" updates, is an ideal trichotomy for RP management.

* The PM newsletters generally ensure that I know each RPer is interested in (and continuing to follow) the action, and it lets me cover issues privately.

* This thread can be an OOC haven for questions about romantic hookups, who's writing the next update, which characters are joining certain search parties or doing certain tasks, and the classic "I'm going on vacation for a week, so my characters will be idle" spiels.

* The RP thread will, on the other hand, be strictly and 100% in-character narrative. No parentheses, no questions, no comments.

And finally, you can always PM each other with more private inquiries (like, "Do you think we should imply that our characters have hooked up?" or "Is it okay if I write an update where your character is mildly injured?")

B) I'm debating whether or not we should assign colors to our text in the narrative: unique colors that distinguish the "voice" of the character who's responsible for narrating each update. Given that many of us are playing as two characters, and given the sheer number of characters here, it might be difficult to tell "who's who." I'll definitely be requiring that everyone at least posts smilies :phoenix: at the beginning of updates, but even still, if an update is long a smiley at the beginning may not be sufficient.

My only concern with the colors is whether certain colors might be more difficult to see in the background. If they are, we might have to stick with white. As I'm working on our first update, y'all can let me know here what your opinions are. Should we use colors to distinguish? Or are smilies alone sufficient?

(...Looks like we'd definitely have a problem with black, but I can see the other colors just fine. Can you?)

That's all for now!

EDIT: I just realized how convenient it is that there will be exactly 20 characters (including Phoenix) on the island. It just feels like a nice, even number of "friends" that a contest might award a winner. "You've won a cruise for you and nineteen friends! Yes, it's a getaway for twenty lucky souls in the beautiful Micronesian islands!"

We could, but I'd imagine that'd be more difficult for those of us who'll be roleplaying as two characters. Furthermore, requiring folks to change their avatars or signatures intermittently as they wrote updates with different characters would get confusing and time-wasting quite fast. It may be easier just to assign varying colors of the rainbow to different characters, and to encourage everyone to include smilies as an immediate and easy "visual hint" as to who you'll be writing as.

Plus, many folks may want to continue using their traditional avatars in other parts of the forums...

I think we should simply mark our posts we the corresponding smiley or, in Lang's case, simply write the name above the post. Colors can, depending on choosen layout, be hard to make out.
