"A... a little odd to you? Like a detail's being left out?"

The redhead studied the hyper journalist for a moment. She then raised an eyebrow and replied with a simple and curt, "Yes."

Martha looked at how Al looked at Don and sweated.
"Al, it's okay," she said. "There's no need to be nervous over what you were doing before the crime." She glared at Don for a second before turning back to Al.
"My trial was over at 7:30 I believe," she said soothingly.

"In which case....." Al looked at Don once more, who nodded. "... I exercise my 5th Amendment right." Al said, sweating more than ever.

"Any objections to this?" The Judge asked. "As far as I can tell, he's completely in the right to do so."

"I have no objections..." Lucias spoke slowly. "but I do wish for Al to understand that by refusing to testify on such a simple matter, he will be casting doubt upon any further testimonies he presents."

"So, what's your say, Martha? Want him to talk?"

Giving up in embarresmet, Thib turned back to his pad and started scribbling furiously.
He then crumpled up the sheet he had started and threw it over his shoulder when he realized that he hadn't been writing actual words, but merely flustered scribbles.

"Of course I want him to talk," Martha said. "But I cannot legally force him to say anything. I guess you'll just have to call your witness." Martha looked a little disheartened when she looked at Al. It was her only chance to find out anything that wouldn't hurt her client. She considered it a missed opportunity. If only she could get Don out of there so he would talk...But it would be impossible unless he left on his own terms. So, Martha knew if she got him angry enough, Don would leave like his relative did.

"Now what's this about the murder?" Al asked, not leaving the stand. "I was arrested for murder, put in the Detention Center for a bit, yet I didn't hear anything about the crime."

Don was getting angry.

"So what supposedly happened?" Al asked.

"Supposedly, you..." Martha hesitated. She knew how much Al's family meant to him... Martha looked at the prosecution for help. Then, she decided she'd better tell him. To someone who did not know the man on the stand, it would be easy to tell him, but she was afraid of how he would react. She took a deep breath.
"You killed your wife and your children...Supposedly," Martha said as unemotionally as she could.

Lucias was quiet. There was something that tasted bitter and foul about this. He waited for Al's response with chagrin, wondering how much he was willing to do to try and stay innocent... or...

Lucias remained quiet, and watched, the gears of his mind turning.

Al was shocked! The State was prosecuting him for that?! How they they?! How could they.....? Al started to cry. The pain of the lose of his family was a lot.

Don was furious! He wanted to jump at Al, but his right hand man - literally, in this case - held him back.

"My.... My family..... Why.....?" Al asked.

Don's face was scrunched up in rage! His plans were going down the drain! Dammit! He was not prepared for such emotional content! Why didn't he use a family prosecutor?

"A-Al..." Martha said sympathetically. "I was asked why I thought this man was innocent before I even knew anything about this case. And now, you see why." She shook her head, feeling guilty about the whole case.

Al continued to weep.

"The witness is unable to testify." The Judge declared. "Next witness, please."

"Very well. Does the defense have any objections?" The Judge asked Martha.

Don just stood there, waiting to see what would happen.

Martha looked at Al again. She knew it would destroy him, but...She had to tell him why he was there. Martha began to think it would have been better if she never told him why he had to be on the witness stand or in the defendant's chair. She snapped out of her trance and payed attention. This was when it would count.
"No objections, Your Honor," Martha said. She had all the time in the world as far as she was concerned.

"Very well then." The Judge concluded. "Court is adjourned for a 15 minute recess." The Judge banged his gavel, signaling to the audience that they should leave the courtroom.

And they did.

Martha immediately looked for Al when recess was called. She didn't know why, but she felt she had an obligation-a duty- to cheer him up...Somehow. She wouldn't say anything...Outlandish or try to rack a joke. She just had to be there for him.

While Martha was trying to find Al on her own, Lucias tracked him down first. He knew the studio better, and knew how to find him faster.
"Oi, Al" Lucias said, before he had the chance to leave. "I wish to talk to you... I assure you, I won't use any of what you say against you, it's just... there's something not right, is there?"

Al nodded.

Don was trying to do with the 15 minute break. Should he go deal with Al? Probably not. His attorney may be there.

"We should go some where more private. The prosecutor's lounge should be good enough. I'll lead the way." Lucais began to walk, taking another candy-pop out of his suitcase. He was clearly stressed, as he crunched on it with new resolve.
"Did you honestly not know of the events that occurred?" He asked midway to his lounge.

Al followed Lucias until they reached the prosecutor's lounge. When they got there, he heard Lucias' question. "All I knew was that something was about to happen. I... I didn't think they would do this to me.... At least not in that way."

"I... I cannot say." Al said, clearly paranoid about something. As if somewhere were out to get him. Though in this instance, it probably looks like he's a nutjob.

Martha was still looking for Al when she saw that prosecutor walking away with Al near him. She walked after them, not calling any attention to herself. When they walked in to the prosecutor's lobby, she debated whether to enter it or not. She kind of stood outside and listened in, not sure what to do.

"There's a reason I brought you here, Al." Lucias said. "You seemed like you were in trouble... and as it turned out, Martha and I met each other when we were on our ways here."

He started to look off into space for a bit. "Martha said somebody wanted her client hurt. She didn't know who I was then, but considering that I have counted at least 3 major things that don't add up like my usual cases, I have almost no doubts you are innocent... or one hell of an actor with good connections. Regardless of that," He turned back to Al. "I brought you here because the prosecution lounge is the last place they would suspect to find a defendant. Is it true that you are in mortal danger?"

Al nodded slowly, looking around for any cracks in places that would allow one to spy on their conversation. "They already took care of my family..... Am I next...? Who knows...."

The redhead scrunched her eyebrows together in frustration as her cold demeanor once again drove someone off. There definitely was something odd going on, but she couldn't quite place her finger on it.

Thib hadn't said anything for a few minutes, despite being quite the chatterbox normally.
On closer inspection, he would appear to have his eyes closed, almost as if he had fallen asleep out of boredom...
But if you looked even more carefully, you might begin to suspect he was faking, as there were tear tracks running down from his eyes.
He had, in fact, faked sleep to draw attention away from himself so he could cry when Al heard about his family.
If you looked at Thib's pad of paper, you would find this line scrawled there:
"Defendant is overcome with emotion after cruel pressuring," end quote.

"I'll... be back later," he yelled over his shoulder.
Once he was in the lobby, he stopped. He really had no idea where to go.

Thib really didn't know what to do with his face, so he just sort of gave a sheepish grin.
"Okay, you're persistent enough, at least." He started trudging beck toward the courtroom.

"Reporter, actually, but close," replied Thib, wondering if Vérité actually read his stories or had just overheard him mention his profession.
"Although I've been rethinking it lately... it isn't much of a job."
Thib thought some more. "I met a photographer once... she was kinda old, though. Lotta... Hair, I think?"
