"Ma'am, control yourself," Draco said in a firm voice. "You must understand that arson is a great offense. Miles Edgeworth's behavior, along with the evidence of drugs within his body within the last few hour set the odds against them. I also take into account your sudden confession. I will be firm, Mrs. Edgeworth." He stared at her without a hint of sympathy. "Your outburst has done nothing more than confirm my suspicion. For all I know, you may be lying to protect your husband, which would be a crime for obstruction of justice. However, if you're husband is truly innocent, the evidence would speak for that. Mark my words, Mrs. 'Edgeworth', I will find the truth of this matter."

Melissa nodded softly. Her face was now stained with tears that showed no end in flowing. The events of the day had left her weary and the passion she had shown only seconds ago was draining from her.
"I understand." She replied with a dulled tone. Then her big green eyes looked up at him in determination. "My honey bear always says that evidence can't lie and in this world it's the only thing you can ever trust. I hope...I hope he's right."

Seeing that she has calmed down, Draco said "Understand, we do this to keep you safe, Mrs. Edgeworth. I will find the truth, and hopefully, I can save your husband. Now please, get some rest. I'll notify you imediately if anything turns up." After escorting her from his office, Draco turned back to his desk and picked up his cell phone. He was going to ring up a certain 'detective', who was going to have an earful from 'The Dragon.'

"Gumshoe," Draco muttered. "I hope you realize your evaluation for this month is in a few days."

Levana scratched the top of her head. 'Nothing...' She thought, very disapponted. 'Well, I better met this woman then.' Levana sighed out. Levana thought of the 'usual' questions to ask her as she approched the building she was in.

Miles didn't say anything to Mia as she sat in his room. He was mostly just trying to fight sleep at this point. He was afraid the past events might start bleeding into his dreams. His vision had grown too bleary to actually read anymore, but he wanted to maintain the illusion at least until the woman decided to leave.

Mia watched Miles fight sleep for a few minutes before speaking. "I figured I should let you know that the office was a dead end. Everything is too burned to be of any use. If Melissa Parks does press charges, we're not in a good position."

"She won't press charges." Miles replied. His voice had gotten deep and guttural. "Pressing charges means an investigation." He gave his eyes a hard rub and tried once more to read his book, but sighed and gave up. He closed it and set it on the bed. "There's something I've been trying to remember about what happened." His forehead wrinkled as he concentrated. "It feels like it's important." He grunted and pushed himself up on the bed some.

Mia nodded quietly, "You're probably right in that she won't press charges...however there's still the fact that she claims to be your wife...the same sort of thing might happen again if this isn't tied up now."

Miles visibly cringed at the thought, and tried to hide it with a cough. It was a very weak deception on his part, but he was tired and his brain was starting to addle. He'd never had this much trouble staying sharp and awake before. Of course hospitals loved the 'sleep it off' rule and so the clear liquid being dripped into his blood through the IV probably wasn't helping his forced insomnia.
"What do you think I should do?" Miles asked weakly. It was so out of character for him to look so lost that Nick had been stunned out of the cheerful greeting he'd planned to give when he opened the door.
When Miles' eyes met Phoenix's his expression immediately shifted to the somber one he'd perfected since the second grade.
"Hiya, Edgy." Nick forced on a smile and waved. He wanted to wipe away all worry in his face, but he failed miserably as he often did. "Um...I came by because I found something you might want." He approached Miles' bed and handed the man a small brass pin.
"My attorney's badge." Miles muttered and rolled it between his fingers.
"Yeah, Larry must've borrowed it. So see? You didn't lose it after all." Nick's smile got wider.
"I've already had another one commissioned." Miles set it onto his book.
"I know, I just thought you might still want it. Since it was your dads and all." Nick rubbed the back of his neck. Miles almost smiled.
"You're going to need directions to that restaurant." Miles replied.
"Oh right! The date!" Nick turned to face Mia. "Uh...sorry...what with all the stuff happening I sort of forgot about it."

Levana sat patiently waiting to met 'this woman'. She looked around at the plain walls. 'It feels just like my office... Lab would be a more appropriate phrase. But who cares?' Levana thought to herself as she tilted her head to the side. Levana straightened up and folded her hands together and sat them on her lap.

Mia smiled, "I'd almost forgotten about that too, with the possible case and all..." She stood up. "And I don't think we want to waste time getting lost looking for the restaurant."

Miles wrote the directions directly onto the back of Nick's hand. This was to save time since he knew they'd be transcribed on there eventually anyway and it saved Nick from fumbling around trying to find some paper. Miles put the pen back into Nick's pocket and slipped downward in his bed.
"Thanks." Nick gave him a smile.
"Do you have my cellphone?" Miles asked.
"Huh? Oh, yeah." Nick pulled it out of his pocket and handed it over. Miles took it.
"I want to check for any messages I may have missed." Miles muttered.
"Er, right." Nick turned to Mia. "We should probably get going." He smiled at her and took her hand. Then led her out of the room.
Once everyone was gone Miles dialed a number.
"Hey, dad?" He said softly when Gregory answered. Then something was said on the other end. "No, I just wanted to hear from you is all."

Meanwhile Melissa timidly poked her head into the room Levana was currently in.
"Um...I thought they were done with questions." She said once she spotted the woman.

Levana smiled softly and shook her head. "I'm just going to ask basic questions about yourself." She said looking at the woman. "I'm Levana Halo, a forensic psychologist." Levana said standing up.

"Oh." Melissa said gently and came in. She gave Levana a soft smile and her eyes glittered in the light like gem stones. She stood in the doorway with her hands folded in front of her as if she were holding a basket against her knees. "Um, what do you want to know?"

"Oh." Melissa seemed a little confused that the woman didn't know her name, but she was happy to oblige. "Melissa Anne Edgeworth." She said simply. "And my sweet Miles and I met a year ago when I started to work at the cafe. I was new in town and he was nice enough to tell me about this really nice exhibit on tea at the museum. I ran into him there and we just started talking. We talked until the place closed." Melissa chuckled to herself. "We had to go back again to actually see the tea."

"With my father in Washington." Melissa answered. Her gentle smile never faded, but her eyes were starting to lose some of their sparkle. "How long will we be? I want to bring my honey bear some tea and cookies before it gets too late. He doesn't really like it when I wake him up."

"She left us when I was seven." Melissa answered with the same tone as before. "We don't know where she is now." She looked down at her hands and the room got colder as her eyes saddened. "My Miles doesn't know about it. So could you not tell him, please? He might get all worried and try to find her."

"N-no!" Melissa's head popped up in surprise. "He never abused me, Ms. Halo." She hastily explained. "It was...it was that stuff he had running through him! My Miles would never hurt me! Ever!" She clutched her dress in her hands making it wrinkle up.

Melissa's entire body was quivering and a tear dripped onto her hand.
"Sometimes, but his job is very hard on him." She said sadly. She lifted her hand and delicately wiped the tears from her eyes. They rolled down her finger and dripped off the tip. "I'm sorry, Ms. Halo. It's just been a very bad day, and I'm so worried about my honey bear. He must feel horrible."

Melissa nodded and left.

Meanwhile Nick and Mia were approaching the Italian place Miles had spoken of.
"Car, sir?" Asked a man in a red coat when they got to the door.
"Uh, no. We walked." Nick informed him. This earned him a sort of sour look from the man. He just smiled back before they went inside. He thought he might have a small heart attack once they were inside. There was no way he could afford food at a place that used more gold than the Taj Mahal for random decoration.

"Huh?" The idea that Mia might have wanted to pay for herself hadn't even crossed his mind. He blinked and looked into the restaurant again with a small whimper. "You know. I saw a burger joint on the way over..." He half suggested.

Phoenix laughed.
"I'm just glad you're not upset. Most girls would prefer a fancy place like this over burgers." He smiled and walked them out. "If you had your heart set on Italian though, I know a place. It's a long walk from here, but it's really cozy and the people there are nice. Immigrants too, so you know it's authentic. They don't speak English so well, but if Cirino is there he can translate."

The sun was beginning to set as they walked and the temperature was steadily dropping.
"Yeah. I go there a lot because it's really close to the office aka my apartment." He chuckled. "Larry used to date one of the waitresses there, but then she ran off to Paris to study painting." Nick folded his hands behind he neck as they walked. The air was crisp enough to bite the end of his nose, but he walked a lot so he was used to that sort of thing.

Phoenix thought on this, but not for very long.
"Longest I think he's dated a girl was a year back in highschool, but she was a total bitch and he only stayed with her because she would put out." Nick stuffed his hands into the pockets of his hoodie. "I mean, not saying that was why he was there. It was more like, well...You know how if you feed a dog it'll keep coming back to your house? Yeah. That."

"I don't know." Phoenix sighed. "Frankly it's not my problem. If he can't get back then that's his own damn fault. He can rot there for all I care." He didn't mean a single word of that, but it felt sort of good to at least say it. "I'll probably wire him the money."

"Yeah, not a single family of a girl he's been broken up with seems to hate Larry. He really makes a great boyfriend from what I can tell. Girls just seem to outgrow him is all." The sun had settled and Nick could see his own breath. He blew into his hands to get some warmth to his nose and stuffed them back into his pocket.

Mia pulled her coat a little tighter. "Well, he doesn't seem like a bad guy, granted I've only encountered him a couple times so I can't really judge. I don't think that gets you very far these days though." She sighed. "It's kind of strange that a lot of good people end up lonely in life. One would think it'd be the other way around."
