"But of course! He's on the ground floor, isn't he?" Mira asked. "Jumping out of a building on the lowest floor is not fatal, considering that a window on the ground floor is 7 feet of the ground (at least). But in that case, why did he turn around?"

"But..." BM said, trembling his little a little over dramatically. "It's a 20th story window! Didn't I say that before?" He pondered this, and decided he did, in fact, say this. "And uhhh..." Taking a deep breath, he contemplated correcting Mira. 'Whoever said he was... Mmph. Nah, it'd be too revealing.'

"I don't think you did." Mira said. "But if that's the case, then I can't think of anything else. But knowing myself, I probably missed something big."

Sandra thought. "He turned around some time before the jump. He couldn't have done it if he was staring into the abyss, so what does that leave?" Sandra asked, mostly to herself.

BM stared at Sandra wide-eyed and rather impressed. "But... why couldn't he have turned while staring into the abyss? Remember, his location is important here." He gave a knowing grin and left the two to their thoughts.

"Because he had turned around sooner than that," Sandra said. If he's impressed with how I deduced that, then won't he be in for a surprise when and if I solve this thing. She waited for BM's response.

He nodded gently. "Yes, yes he-- I mean..." He frowned, "It's a distinct possibility!" He said quickly, fake-grinning afterward. "But what does that mean for where he stands, and or how he survived?" 'Well, we're getting warmer and warmer here. Not quite on fire though.'

"Hm..." Sandra said. "So, that means, he would have been having to look at a mirror or a reflexive surface to have stared into the abyss after turning around." She waited to see how BM would respond.

BM winced. "Well... yes, but how would looking at mirror save you from falling out a window?" 'Perhaps I should try using better methods to coax out the answer...' He thought for a moment, and added, "And he wasn't checking if anyone was hanging out on the fire escape or anything."

"Maybe his reflection jumped out of the window?" Sandra asked. Then, she thought about it. How would that explation account for where he is?

"..." BM paused to stare at Sandra. "But he hit the ground! Like, all of him did!" 'Okay, better give another cryptic/off-handed clue. Oh, I got a good one...' "You have to think outside the box. Literally. Well, mostly literally. One part is figurative but yeah mostly literally."

Hm...I have to think outside...Think of something...Okay, he turned around before staring into the abyss...What does that mean for where he is or how he survived? Maybe I should let Mira guess something, Sandra thought.

"There were boxes that broke his fall." Mira suggested. "What? You were putting a lot of emphasis on boxes, so I thought that might be the answer."

"Erm..." BM frowned, picturing a man jumping from a building to land on boxes. 'Aaaand... Still splat. Maybe.' "Well... Not exactly. And let's put less emphasis on boxes and more emphasis on thinking outside, mmm?" He grinned softly.

Thinking outside, Sandra thought. What could possibly be outside that would save him? "Um..." Come on, think of something. "What if... He was in a fun house?" And...WRONG!

Mira was thinking hard, until Sandra asked him that question. "Does it look like it?" Mira asked. "BM, where are we on the map?"

BM stared out the window, looking for any road signs or other distinguishing features. He then looked intensely at the map. He then noticed the big flashing highway banner and frowned at it. After where they were was sorted out, he tried to find where they were going. Of course, he didn't quite know exactly where that was.
"Well, we're on Highway 9, about... three-quarters of the way down it, south. Where are we headed?"

"Pine Street, got it." He scanned the map, trying to focus on that instead of the case ahead. After a few seconds of searching, he found Pine Street.
"Okay, to get to Pine Street turn left..." He looked out the window, then alarmed, shouted, "NOW!"

Mira made a sharp turn left as BM shouted. It was clear that he was started. "You didn't have to yell. " Mira told BM. "I can hear you just fine."

Sandra slammed against the door on her side as she found herself being swung like that at the sudden, sharp turn. She let out a grunt as she hit the door, but quickly recovered.
"How close are we, BM?" she asked.

As the car swerved, BM swerved himself, straight into the seat next to him. 'Thank you seatbelts,' he thought, straightening himself out. "Eh," he replied to Mira, "I really didn't want to miss the turn. Besides, people respond faster when you yell. Probably." He grinned ever-so-slightly.
"Right." He said to Sandra, checking the map to be sure of himself. "We are about... 3 blocks away. Yeah. Oh, and turn right next intersection, Mira."

"It was 102 Pine Street," Sandra said. She wasn't hiding how anxious she was to get there. The riddle from earlier had already slipped her mind as she braced herself for what she might find.

Mira was looking out for 102 as he drove down Pine Street. "Found it." Mira said, referring to the place. Then he shifted his attention to the parking places, looking for an empty parking spot.

Martha was ready to jump out of the car as soon as it stopped. She had to see what happened. There were police cars ((at least, that's what she figured they were from the splotches of color)) everywhere, which only slightly comforted her. At least there are more people working on the case than just Mira, BM, and I, she thought as she waited for Mira to find a parking place.

As the car slowed, BM turned his head to see out the window. The first thing in his line of vision were the hoardes of cop cars everywhere, which made his stomach churn. He wondered exactly what they would find inside. Sighing, he turned to the door and waited for the car to slow down.
