Mia chuckled and shook her head, "Right thing to say or no, I think I'll take you up on that offer, Phoenix. I'd rather not end up getting flipped off the side of the road."

"Really?" Nick blinked in surprise. "Uh...okay." He pointed. "This is it, turn here. The parking lot is to the left. I know they have names on them, but you can ignore it. No one really pays attention and the guard's too lazy to write up tickets for it." When the car pulled to a stop Nick got out. The lot was covered, but the rain was blowing in on them. Nick ran up to the apartment entrance and held the door open for Mia.

Mia quickly locked up her car and dashed into the door Phoenix held open. Once in side she moved a little to the left of the door to avoid the rain flying in and shook some of the water out of her hair.

"We're upstairs. Fifth floor." Nick headed for the staircase. "Uh...or we could take the elevator if you want." He pointed to them across the room. He flashed her a smile.

Nick walked over to the elevator and pushed the button.
"This'll be faster. We need to get you out of those wet clothes. I think Larry has some in his closet that will fit you." Nick said as they stepped inside. "Uh...his girlfriends leave stuff and Larry refuses to throw any of it out." He explained.

"Er...yeah..." Nick smirked. The elevator dinged and they got out. He wandered over to a door and unlocked it. When it swung over and they stepped inside one had to wonder if the storm had hit the place before it rolled outside. "If you see something move don't freak out. We have a lot of half finished gadgets running around." He informed her as he went in. "Uh, Lar's room is over there. Don't worry, it's surprisingly clean. His girlfriend came by the other day and picked it up for him. Wish she'd have gone through the rest of the house..." Nick sighed.

Mia nodded and walked into Larry's room. Compared to the rest of the apartment, it was incredibly neat and didn't look like anyone had been in it since it had been cleaned. Mia dug through the closet, careful not to make too much of a mess before finding a T-shirt and a pair of pants that looked like they would fit her.

Nick moved stuff out of the way to unfold the couch bed, then wandered over to his room. He had a habit of sleeping in his boxers, so it took him a little while to dig out a pair of pajamas he'd gotten for Christmas a few years back. They were Christmas themed as well, but there was no way they could be more embarrassing than anything he's said or done that night. In fact they were perfectly in tune with the evening.

Mia walked back out into the living room wearing a nondescript gray t-shirt and a pair of black pants. She'd also scrounged a clean towel out of one of the other closets and was in the process of toweling her hair dry.

Nick had opted for just taking a shower before changing, but once he was done he peeked into the living room with his reflexes set on yanking back if Mia was forced to pick something slinky and not at all happy about it. To his relief she'd opted for something of Larry's.
"Um. Are you comfortable? Do you need more blankets or anything?" He wondered.

"Okay." Nick smiled at her, still not having stepped fully into view. "Well my room is back here. Just let me know if need something." He pulled back behind the wall and sighed softly. He sincerely hoped that Larry didn't decide to come home that night. This would not be taken well.

Mia nodded. "Alright."
After Phoenix had gone back into his room, Mia went back and dug her cell phone out of her damp coat. Mia noted that Maya had called sometime during the drive over, and made a mental note to call her tomorrow.

"Hrngh." Phoenix got up when the morning light glared against his face. He got up stiffly and shuffled from the room while rubbing out his hair. It was a short trip though the living room to the kitchen where he sleepily began to make coffee. While it perked he opened the fridge and bent down to see what was inside. The refrigerator (with possibly the exception of Larry's room, except that wasn't a common occurance anyway) was the cleanest place in the whole house. He took out some sausage and some eggs and fired up an eye on the stove. The sounds of sizzling breakfast soon commenced.

Mia untangled herself from the blankets as she smelled the eggs and sausage. Reaching over for her cell phone that she had left on the arm of the couch, she blearily looked at the time. Forcing herself to get up, Mia ran a hand through her hair as she stood to get it out of her face.
She walked over to kitchen and gave Phoenix a half-sleepy sort of smile. "Good morning."

"Uh huh." Phoenix responded by default. It took him much to long to realize that the person talking to him wasn't Larry. "AH!" He jumped and clutched his chest. He wouldn't be needing that coffee anymore. "M-Ms. Fey! Uh! Mia!" He coughed out some of the roughness in his voice. "The storm...I forgot. Do you want me to call you a taxi? Oh no, wait. You drove...uh..." He let out a deep sigh, regathered his nerves, smiled over at her, and started over. "Morning, want some eggs?"

"That's okay." Nick smiled and went to the fridge for more food. "Sorry if I woke you up." He cracked two more eggs into the frying pan and started to cut more sausage. Then he took some spices off the rack above the stove and started to mix different things into the eggs and season the meat. He was doing most of this on autopilot considering that while he was doing it he looked like his mind was somewhere else entirely. "If I order those parts today I should get them in time to have the prototype done." He said softly to himself.

Draco awoke to the sound of his cell phone going off by his bedside. He immediatley knew it had to be Valerie. She made it a point to wake him at seven in the morning. And sure enough, as he fumbled to grab it, it was her calling. Right on schedule. He cleared his throat of the mourning hoarseness before answering. "Hello?" he said in his usually dull voice.

"Mourning, hansome," came the reply of Valerie Hawthorne. "Sleep well?"

"Sure did," he replied, then added in a completely serious tone. "Dreamed of fire and brimstone, and battling the devil with a fiddle."

She laughed at the remark, a sound Draco always enjoy hearing. He let himself have a grin. "So what's on the agenda?" She asked after her giggle fits.

"We'll need to head down to Edgeworth and Son Lawfirm and see what we can find out. I'll also need to speak over at the hospital and see if Edgeworth could be released. We'll need to question him about that day. Plus..." He hesitated for a minute, wondering if he should speak to her about Melissa. He figured it wasn't important at the moment and decided top leave it until then. "...well, I'll tell you more when we get down to the preccint."

"Got it, but first, how about some breakfast. I'm buying."

Draco scoffed as he began to pull his pants up. "You know better than anyone I'm not the breakfast type. I'll get you something on the way over. How about that?"

"Good enough. Just get me a chicken busket, would you."

"You got it, babe. I'll see you there." He hung the phone up and finished getting dressed. He paused a moment to look in his sock drawer, where he was keeping a very special item he's going to give to Val after the case. A special engagement ring, set with a saphire stone. He'd made up his mind many months ago, and couldn't wait to present it to her.

Right now, though, it's time to get to work.

Miles Edgeworth lay awake in his bed. He was still absurdly tired, but sleep was refusing to come to his aide. He was just too paranoid and every time it nearly had him in its grip he found some way of keeping himself awake. Trying to remember that clue was the most prominent one. He'd finally managed to remember that it was red, but was now growing to tired to really think of anything beyond baser needs.
"Could I get some tea?" He asked the nurse that had come in to check on him.
"Sure thing, Mr. Edgeworth." She smiled and walked out.

Holding the brown bag in his hand, Draco entered the building, where Valerie waited quietly for him. He paused for a moment to admire how she looked. Her raven black hair, her almond eyes. Her dark blue uniform gaver her that professional look he'd alway endurred.

Spotting him, Valerie smiled and walked over to give him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Took you long enough," she teased.

"The damn drive-thru was packed." Draco mumbled an excuse, scowling at hte bag. "I can't believe there are so many idiots who buy this garbage." He hold the package toward her. She simply pushed it back and shook her head. "Sorry, forgot to tell you I already ate. That biscuit's actually for you."

"You mean..."Draco began, fuming.

"Hey," she smiled, ignoring the dirty look Draco was giving her. "You needed something to eat this morning. And it was the only way you actually buy anything. So are you gonna eat it, or waste $2.30?"

Draco grumbled for a few moments before taking out the biscuit, chomping down on it moodily. Once finished, he began to tell her about the investigation that would go underway. "I'll need you and a pair of our best down there finding out what happened. Talk to everyone who was there that day, in or around the building. I'll need to head down to the hospital and talk with Edgeworth again. I want a more detailed account about his activities that day."

"Got it," Valerie replied, her police face now set. "Anyone in particular I should take."

Draco though for a moment, then said, "Take Gumshoe with you."

"Because of his incredible investigation skills?" She joked.

"No, because I think Edgeworth is getting tired of his mouth, and is ready to stangle him if he carries on."

Miles added extra packets of sugar to his foam cup tea. He hated drinking out of those things. They always tainted the taste. Still, he needed the caffeine if he wanted to get through the day, and the extra sugar was helping mask the plastic taste. They were supposed to be letting him out today, but earlier that morning he saw a doctor with his chart talking to another doctor and both looking rather concerned. When they realized that Miles was awake they decided to have a walk. He hadn't been told anything yet, but he was expecting one of the doctors to walk through that door at any minute and disappoint him.

Once the investigation team was set, with Valerie in control, Draco drove over to the hospital to check up on Miles Edgeworth. He stepped into the lobby over toward the reception's desk. He toke a quick notice and found it was the same nurse he spoke with last night. "Excuse me," he said, flashing his badge. "Detective Harley Draco. I'm not sure you remember. But I'd like to speak with Mr. Edgeworth if he's feeling up to it."

"Sure thing." She smiled at him and pointed in the general direction of the room. "I just brought him some tea."

Miles finished his cup and sighed. He was about to ask for one of the doctors himself, but the detective from the other day walked into his room. Miles pushed himself up on the bed and gave him a slightly more fake version of his showman's smile.
"How goes the investigation, detective?" He asked with a twinge of hope in his voice.

"I've just sent a team over to the office to make heads-and-tales about how the fire started." Draco leaned on the walk, glancing at Edgeworth with a calm look. He had a random thought about how they were both somewhat similar in appearance, then back to the topic at hand.

"I'm actually hoping that you could shed some light about what you did that day. In your office, I mean."

"I'm not sure what you mean." Miles did his best to think back. "The last time I was in my office was when I hired a new assistant, but I've recently let her go. What with recent events I thought it might be best if she sought more reliable employment." He explained. "I haven't even been able to assess the massive amount of damage that woman must have caused to the place." He grumbled.

Gumshoe kicked over a larger piece of the burnt remains of the ceiling. so far, the investigation team had turned up very little, and he was starting to get a slight bit frusturated. Grumbling to himself, Gumshoe wandered over to where Edgeworth's desk sat, which only bore a few scars from the fire.

(On the other side of the pancake...)

Mia watched Phoenix silently for a moment before speaking again. "So you're still thinking through those blueprints you came up with last night?"

"Yeah." Nick smiled over at her. "I should probably go write them down before I lose them." He dumped the eggs on two different plates and wandered over to a desk covered in grid papers. He found a blank one and started to sketch onto it. The drawings were very rough, but the measurements and calculations were on the nose. Once he had them down he went back to the kitchen and fried up the sausage.

"Well we make a prototype and present that and the designs to a company." He flipped the sausages over. "If they like it they buy the design and put it through mass production. Sometimes we collect a percentage of each item sold. Others we just get a large lump sum up front. It all depends on how well the execs think that the product will sell." He went on to quote a few of the figures that they've seen over the past year, and looked very business like as he did it. It was very strange to see such a serious face flipping meat in a frying pan. "Coffee?" He asked out of the blue.

Phoenix shrugged and poured himself a cup. He slid the finished food over to her and set the other on the other side of the table.
"We have juice too. Orange. Not even from concentrate so it's really good stuff." He offered right before having a sip of his coffee. He made a bitter face and quickly poured it down the sink. "Ugh, when was the last time that thing got cleaned?" He grumbled and opened the top. He made another face just before he pulled out a now rather brown sock where the filter should have been. "God damnit, Larry." He sighed and slopped the sock into the sink. Then he went to the fridge to pour his own juice.

"Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction." Nick sighed and poured two glasses of juice. He handed one to Mia while he nearly chugged the other. Then he turned around and topped off the glass before putting the juice away and having a seat.
