"Veronika," she replied. "Veronika DeKiller." She hung up and left for Sandra's house.

DeKiller? Why does that name sound familiar? Mira used his phone to search the FBI database using the search term "DeKiller" and briefly examined all of the hits that came up. Afterward, he told BM to follow him outside to wait for this "Veronika".

Veronika appeared at the house, looking innocent with her blond hair in pig-tails and her big, sparkly blue eyes. Surely, she couldn't be an assassin. She was too...Peppy. She skipped toward Mira and BM in her little high-heels and green dress.
"Hello," she sang. "Is this where Ms. Sandra Castro lives?"

"Sandra Castro?" Mira asked normally. "We're here to figure out the deal with Felicia Castro here. You sure you know what you're doing?" Mira asked.

"Really? Then I apologize, sir," she said in her sing-songy voice. "Must have gotten the wrong address." Felicia Castro? I've never heard of her. Maybe she's...No! I never make mistakes... She hummed and started skipping away. If I made a mistake, I will rectify the situation.

"Hey! Come back here!" Mira yelled. "You and the boss had a deal! This is the right address!" And that's when it hit Mira that Veronika framed Sandra. How else could she have mistaken Felicia for Sandra, despite mentioning Felicia during the call? They share the same last name, and knowing Sandra's relationship with Felicia only makes Veronika's slip more apparent. He remembered the tape and the fight that occurred. But as Veronika is an assassin, who hired her? Richard? It would make sense, but when? Mira couldn't immediately tend to those details, as he needed to resolve this problem first.

"Really?" Veronika asked, turning around. "And by boss, you mean Don?" She looked back at the house, furtively. "It looks like the police are in there. This...Felicia Castro...What are you trying to find out about her?"

"Don't you remember?" Mira asked. "We're trying to collect money that Felicia failed to pay back! We offered you a portion of the money if you were to figure out where Felicia hid it. As for the police, don't worry about them; they answer to us."

"Oh. Right..." Veronika said, blushing a little. Stupid me! I killed the wrong one!!! "Well, let's not waste any time, then." She skipped innocently into the house.

Mira took out his cell phone and texted the detention center regarding Sandra and the fact she was framed. He then turned on the phone's voice recorder, put his cell phone in his pocket, and reentered the house behind Veronika. "By the way, who is Sandra Castro?" Mira asked. "A relative or something?"

Veronika wanted to say, "That is not your concern," or something like that, but what came out was: "No. But my mother and her were friends since childhood. I haven't been here in ages since...Since Mom died." At this point, she stopped skipping and hung her head sadly. "I miss her...And I miss Aunt Sandy...It's been a long time since I called her that...Anyway, we were here about money. Please don't make it more than that."

"I'm sorry to have brought it up, but I thought it might be worth telling the boss about Sandra, especially since we're dealing with money here. Is Sandra related to Felicia, the person we are trying to collect from?" Mira asked, trying to reiterate the importance of such information implicitly. It is kinda weird that the person who framed Sandra had such a relation with her.

"Y-yes, she is...I think she's her sister..." Veronika said, thinking hard. "Yeah. I've seen her around Aunt Sandy a lot." I was supposed to kill Aunt Sandy, but I couldn't do it... "I don't understand. How is Aunt Sandy important at all when it's Felicia who owes the money?"

"Wouldn't a good sister protect her siblings?" Mira asked. "Take a look around, and if we can't find any leads, we'll ask this 'Sandra' about it. Maybe a little motivation would help her reveal the location of the money."

"Hm..." Veronika said. She wanted to disagree, but she knew Aunt Sandy too well. It was exactly the kind of thing she would do for family... "Sandy is a private investigator. I doubt she'll crack under interrogation, and I'm sure she has a million places we would never even think of looking to hide it. Let's hope we find it in here..." She realized she said that aloud and blushed. "Let's see...This is a crime scene, right? Maybe they already found it..." She casually skipped ahead and went inside.

"Stop! Little girl!" Shelby yelled, running at her. She bent down t Veronika's level. "I didn't mean to yell," she said sweetly. "But this is a crime scene. It's no place for a little girl such as yourself." She saw Mira ((and BM, I hope)) walking in.

Mira heard what Shelby said as he entered the room. He looked at Veronika, then at Shelby. "Could I talk to you outside for a moment?" Mira asked. "She's here for a reason and will be supervised by BM."

Mira quickly flashed the business card he found earlier, then motioned Shelby outside. "It's important that we talk about this outside." Mira whispered to Shelby, as he made his way to the door. He opened it, waiting for Shelby to come out with him.

"I lured her here." Mira whispered, handing the business card over to Shelby. "That card is for an assassination service. I've confirmed it by placing a fake hit on Felicia, which led to a search of her 'fortune'." Mira explained. "That's probably what you find strange about the child. I have the fake call and another piece of verbal evidence recorded. The first piece is the call, confirming the death of Felicia, while the second piece is essentially a confession for the murder of Felicia, along with the framing of Sandra. How tall do you think Felicia and 'Sandra' were, as seen in the video?" Mira asked. "Also, how tall do you think the kid, Veronika, is?"

"Hm...Now that you mention it..." Shelby said, thinking hard. "Sandra and Felicia were almost the same height, with Sandra only being slightly taller. But that kid is definitely shorter than the both of them...Unless she was wearing high heels, even higher than those she has on...Then she might be about Sandra's height. Now that I think about it, the video is only in black and white...I think you have some great evidence against her. But...And this is important." She paused before whispering, "It wasn't my idea to arrest Sandra, and it isn't my decision whether to release her. I'm guessing she'll still have a trial to get through. If this child is the assassin that killed Felicia, you only have to worry about proving that someone else besides Sandra hired her. Shouldn't be hard for someone like you..."

Shelby's face hardened. "It was that private investigator who accused her, and nobody argued with him. just like we never argued with Sandra. I think he would be very interested in what you found. his name is Mike. Mike Blunt. He lived through a very tough time when serial killers were everywhere you turned, and he was the only detective who lived through it. So forgive him if he starts snapping at you, he doesn't mean it." She grabbed a piece of paper and wrote on it. "This is the address of his office."

Mira took the paper and read the address. "Great, I'll check this out. In the mean time, can you do something about the kid, in case she is responsible for the crime?" Mira asked. "If not, I'll just contact the FBI on the matter."

"Don't worry about the kid," Shelby said. "I can keep her entertained until more officers get here...In case she attacks..." She turned back around and added, "Sandra is lucky she met you." Then, she walked back into the house.

Oh Shi- Mira quickly went back into the house, after Shelby. He put his hand on her shoulder and pulled back just a tiny bit, as to make it clear that he had something else to say, but must be quiet about it. "Real quickly, the kid believes that she's investigating a dead person's house for a clue to the location of a fake fortune. Mira whispered to Shelby as quietly as possible, but still loud enough for Shelby to hear. "Keep that in mind." Mira retracted his hand. "Tell BM to stay here while I take care of this. There's a good chance that he'll be more useful here, in case something comes up."

And with that, Mira left the house to go pay Mike a visit.

((Finally! A split story thing. XD))

When Shelby went back inside after what Mira said, she didn't see Veronika. She must have been looking for the lost fortune. Shelby smiled and started writing, in what she hoped looked like Felicia's hand-writing, which read:
To whom it may concern,
I felt guilty for stealing so much money, that I gave it to Sandra to return all of it. Instead of that, she made off with it, and buried it somewhere...She never told me where. I wish I knew so I didn't have to live with this guilt!
Signed,
Felicia Castro

Shelby knew an adult would see through something like that in a heartbeat, but a child might just believe it. She set off to find where Veronika and BM went.

Mira unlocked the car and entered it. He referred to a map to locate Mike's office, then made his way over.
============
After a bit of driving, Mira found a parking place and parked his car, then tried to determine whether or not he was in.

Detective Mike Blunt was walking his office after getting no more business offers and was getting ready to enjoy his time off. Then, he saw someone park not too far away. He subconsciously reached for his gun, an old habit he had never been able to get rid of. Was this business? Or was this another attempt on Mike's life? He had no idea. Of course, nothing looked suspicious, but then again, they never did. He cautiously approached Mira.

"Excuse me, sir," Mike said kindly, projecting to make sure Mira could hear him. "Might I ask why you're here?"

"I'm here to talk about your involvement in a murder case." Mira said. "I'm not here to point fingers, but I was told that you worked with the police to arrest one 'Sandra Castro'. Do you know which case I'm referring to?" Mira asked.

"Ah, yes. The Felicia Castro murder," Mike said, relaxing very slightly. "You're not the first one who wanted to talk to me about that. Some officer named Shelby, some lawyer named Dan...They both thought my judgment wasn't as good as theirs. They combed the scene a few times, looking for any evidence that would prove me wrong. When they didn't find anything, they began to trust me. I assume you found something of interest, though. You don't look like the type to be unprepared. Guess we'd better talk inside. Follow me." Mike turned around and walked back into his office, stopping every so often to make sure Mira was keeping up and wasn't going to try to pull anything.

Mira did no such thing. Once Mira entered the office with Mike, he pulled out the business card from earlier and showed it to Mike. "As you can see, this is a business card. A business card for an assassination service. Upon calling that number, I noted an unusually innocent voice on the other line. As the conversation went on, it was revealed that the girl on the line was an assassin. With that in mind, I asked about killing Felicia Castro, but she said that Felicia was already dead. The fact that her business card was present at Felicia's home, where Sandra happened to be at, at the time of the murder, made me wonder whether or not she had killed Felicia instead of Sandra, which you have claimed. With that in mind, I placed a fake hit on Felicia to confirm her death, then arranged for her to come to her house to search for leads to a false fortune that she believed belonged to a mob boss.

"When she came to the house, she asked about Sandra, as opposed to Felicia, whom she briefly 'forgot' about. Once she went in, I turned on my recording device and followed her in. After some discussion, I managed to record a confession of sorts...." Mira realized he left the recorder on. ".... Which includes discussion with Shelby about the matter. She agrees with me and believes that Veronika might have killed her. If you want to review my evidence, I'll rewind it a bit for your review." Mira said, as he took out his phone, which was still recording. He stopped his recording, copied it onto a small SD card (which he slipped into his pocket), and set it to the beginning. "Or do you want to hear the call first?" Mira asked.

Mike looked like he was somewhat tortured inside as he listened to Mira talk, but something was odd. Mira could not tell what he was thinking as he listened to him talk. ((Sorry for the god-mod, but Mike will explain why this is later.))
"Any order you want, sir," Mike replied. He looked at Mira as if he ((Mira)) was a dead man, but he only flashed that look for a split second. "But that card...Mister, I have not listened to the recordings yet, but if they are as you described, then I'd say it makes a strong case for Sandra. I don't think you should get any more involved in this." Mike didn't look or sound surprised by anything Mira told him, as if he already knew something like that was what was really going on...

((I understand)).

"You, a private detective, are telling me, an FBI agent," Mira flashed his ID, "to not get into any more in this case?" Mira asked. Mira played the recorded call. After some acknowledgment, he played the recording that contained Veronika's heavily implied confession. He ended the recording after the part where Shelby told him he needed to figure out who hired Veronika.

"So what do you think?" Mira asked.

"I think..." he sighed, as if what he was about to say was hard for him. "I think...This definitely does a lot to prove Sandra's innocence. Forgive me for earlier, I didn't realize you were FBI. I guess that means I should tell you some things..." he looked around, as if making sure there weren't any hidden cameras, then he walked outside his office and looked around. Once he was satisfied nobody was listening in, he turned back around and locked the door before sitting down. "First of all, I saw the card already...As well as figured out who hired the assassin. Listen closely..." he paused for a few seconds before asking, "Do you hear anything?"

Mike smiled.
"Exactly," he said as if Mira just proved some sort of point. "You didn't hear my voice, or you would have responded, not realizing you were hearing my thoughts. Why do I know this? Because I learned how to block off my mind so only those who really try...and I mean they'd be purple by the time they get anywhere...can read my thoughts. I foresaw your visit...Since I have developed my psychic abilities. Now that serial killers aren't everywhere you turn, I have had more time on my hands than I knew what to do with. I saw that you were like Sandra in that you could read people's thoughts. Only Sandra isn't as developed as you are in this thing, since she has tried to stop reading thoughts. Don't move." Mike pulled out his gun and shot. The bullet whizzed past Mira's ear, went right through the door, and suddenly there was a cry of pain that could be heard loud and clear.
"Open the door," he said. "And bandage his left arm. Third assassination attempt this week. I trust I don't have to warn you to be careful."

Mira took out a pair of handcuffs, instructed the assassin to put his hands behind his back, then placed the handcuffs on him. He called the police and informed them of the assassin. Mira made sure that the assassin didn't go anywhere until the police came.

"Now, should we wait until this guy is put away, or are you willing to talk now?" Mira asked.
