Mia's glare didn't falter. "Perhaps you'd like to tell me who this 'Montgomery Beluciano' is, Miles? I'd like to have an idea of who might be popping up in cases I'm working on, especially somebody possibly dangerous."

"He's only dangerous if you manage to get on his bad side, which you obviously haven't." Miles sighed. His anger was melting into annoyance. "You were right about him being a mob boss, but the man has a sort of twisted set of morals. He'll kill the man sitting next to you then ask if you want a cup of tea. As long as you're innocent in his eyes then you have nothing to worry about." Miles hadn't bothered yet to sit on the bench they were standing in front of. The air started to mist up with rain again. "My father defended one of his thugs once. He actually happened to be innocent of the crime he was being convicted for. I guess he thinks this is his way of repaying the debt or something." Miles grumbled.

Mia's quiet tone carried an undercurrent of concern as she spoke, "That explains his actions this morning, I guess. I don't like this, Miles. I agreed to take his 'assistance' so I could get Phoenix out of there, but I don't like the idea of using the evidence he sends me. It could easily be falsified, and I refuse to present anything I'm not 100% sure of in court."

"Maybe that's why he felt he needed to rough Phoenix up first." Miles' tone was starting to match Mia's, only his was much more exasperated. He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose again. He could feel a migraine coming on. Upon opening his eyes he could only stare in horror as he was tackled by a happy Melissa.
"Oh, honey bear! You decided to come for the picnic after all! Oh I just knew you would!" She cooed.
"Get off me!" Miles pushed her away and then deftly stepped behind Mia. Whether it was to protect him from her or protect her from him was hard to determine.

Mia didn't quite know how to react to the whole situation, so she decided to fall back on the tired and true stratagem of politeness. "You're Melissa Parks, am I right? I'm Mia Fey, a defense lawyer."

"Oh! Ms. Fey! Miles has had nothing but fond things to say about you." Melissa smiled and her eyes glistened like jewels catching the light.
"I have not!" Miles argued with all the forcefulness of a child.
"Well he did have that one complaint about your willingness to blindly believe in your clients." Melissa replied.
"Grk." Miles looked like he was either going to pass out or throw up from holding back all the rage boiling inside of him.
"I'm going to go set us up a nice place to eat, okay, honey bear?" Melissa tilted her head with her bright smile and scampered over to a nice empty place in the park. Miles was squeezing his hands into fists so tightly that it was making his arms shake.

Mia looked over her shoulder at Miles and smirked. "She's not too bad....for a raving psychotic. She seems to know quite a bit about your personal views though, Miles. She may even be able to convince a judge that the two of you were involved. "

Miles was not at all amused. In fact he was downright scary looking. He turned swiftly on his heels and started to walk away before he did something stupid. When he got to Mia's car he could hear Melissa call from the park, "I'll see you at home, honey!" Without looking her way and with Mia's car at his side he then proceeded to punch a dent into the trunk. There was no person in the world capable of getting a rise out of Miles without having known him for years, and yet Melissa Parks had him punching cars in raw anger.

Mia strode over and looked at the damage Miles had done. it certainly wasn't the worse her car had suffered all day, but it was still one of many new dents that speckled her car like craters on an asteroid. She glared at Miles. "You are going to pay for that, you know. C'mon, let's get out of here before you decide to damage someone else's vehicle."

"I'll walk." Miles forced the words through his teeth and started moving again.

Meanwhile Nick was drooling on his couch.

Mia had to move at a light jog to catch up with Edgeworth. She cut in front of him, forcing him to stop, and glared at him. "What, so you'll get drugged and tied to a bed again? Not happening, Miles, I don't care how angry you are. I'm giving you a ride back to your car."

The thought of that made Miles ill.
"Why don't you stomp about? Maybe you'll start an earthquake too." Miles muttered under his breath. "You take me to my car and what then? The woman knows where I live. She knows where I go. I'm not going to be safe from her until she's locked away." He said at a volume she could hear. "I just want to be left alone."

Mia let out a disgusted sigh, knowing she wasn't going to get anywhere when Miles was like this. Her tone betrayed an equal level of frusturation and defeat. "Fine, do whatever you want, Miles. I don't know why I try anymore." She brushed past him and strode back to her car, not even sparing Miles a second glance.

Miles continued his walk.

Some time later Nick woke up to a knock at his door.
"Urgh." He sluggishly got up and dragged himself over to it. He almost woke up when he saw who was on the other side. "Miles?"
"Your place was closer than my car." He explained quickly.
"Uh...okay...come in then." Nick stepped out of his way.
"Good lord, it's horrific in here." He gasped when he saw the disarray of Phoenix's home.
"Yeah...sure...whatever." Nick groggily made he way back to the couch. Miles watched him crash and sighed a little. Then he started to clean up.

Mia's anger with Miles had gone from a rage to a simmering irritation by the time she'd taken care of Phoenix's presription and pulled up in the parking lot of his apartment. In retrospect, she really shouldn't have expected much less from Miles. It didn't make it any less irritating, but that couldn't be helped. The sharp click of he heels echoed up the stairwell and down the hall until she got to Phoenix's apartment. She knocked sharply on the door twice, in case Phoenix was still asleep.

The door opened, but there was no one standing at it, and Nick was still asleep on the couch. When Mia stepped in she saw something pink walked into the kitchen and in a few moments walk back out. Miles didn't even say hello to her as he picked up some discarded laundry and carried it away.

Mia shook her head slightly, convinced she couldn't have seen Miles in Phoenix's apartment doing domestic chores, of all things. Deciding that she had just spent too much time thinking about the case, she set the prescription down on the counter and scrounged for some paper she could use to leave Phoenix a note, as she didn't intend to wake him over something she could just as easily express in a note.

Miles entered the living room again, this time to pick up an old pizza box with something rattling inside. He had no desire to know what that something was as he stuffed it into the black trash bag he'd carried in with him.

Mia stared at him for a moment, perplexed and a bit amused. "What are you doing here, Miles? I figured you'd still be stomping back to the courthouse parking lot considering the mood you were in."

"This was closer." Miles tossed some unidentifiable things into the bag for good measure. Then he considered going into the kitchen to find some heavy duty disinfectant.

"Oh, I see." Mia shifted uncomfortably for a moment. While she was still irritated at Miles for his behavior at the park, she didn't feel up to starting a yelling match, especially not with Phoenix asleep in the room. Deciding it'd be easier if she didn't have to talk to miles, she resumed her search for some paper in the war torn disaster area of the apartment.

Miles continued to clean, then stood up and tapped his foot impatiently. When Mia finally looked his way he grunted a rough "Do you mind?" and gestured to the area he couldn't get to because she was standing there.

Mia gave him an irritated look, "look, I'm just looking for some paper to leave Phoenix a note about his prescription. Give me another couple of minutes and I'll be out of your hair, alright?" She added under her breath. "Who died and left you in charge anyway?"

"Well if you'd just step out of the way for a moment I could get over there and you can keep looking." Miles rolled his eyes. "I don't see you doing anything of dire importance." He put his bag down so he could cross his arms properly. "And let's see, how long have you known Phoenix? You went on one date, didn't you? Oh yes, that certainly gives you some authority."

"Three years of what? Talking to him on occasion? Being molested by him at parties?" Miles brushed past and picked up some things. "Oh right. You defended him in a trial once. Yes of course, that makes you best friends, doesn't it? How silly of me to think otherwise."

[OOC: Quickie interjection. Miles used the word molested with the intended meaning of 'to disturb or tamper with' not the strong sexual abuse connotation it's been given.]

Mia bristled but kept her tone even. "Like you're one to talk Miles. You spend most of your time locked up in that office of yours, it's amazing you ever leave it. I'd be astounded if you even get together with your friends at all outside of their being on trial."

"Hey! I see them at parties and when I'm having lunch. Sometimes Phoenix even comes to my home with movies or some silly board game to play." Miles seemed to take offense to her accusation towards his lack of social life. "I just happen to take my work seriously and like to give each of my clients special attention. It's what they come to me for!"

Mia rolled her eyes. "You're not the only one who handles each case individually, Miles, and it's a rather weak defense I mean...since when have you ever actively sought that sort of interaction with Phoenix or Mr. Butz, Miles? I'd imagine most of the time it's them seeking you out, am I right?"

"So what? I'm a busy man who enjoys his work." Miles curled his fingers into his hand. "They understand that. And I hardly think of it as an excuse." He glowered down at her. Miles grumbled to himself and continued to stuff the bag. Eventually it got to the point he couldn't fit anymore and he was no where near done cleaning up the trash. He sighed and went to get another bag to start filling.

It would take some time to clean up the layers of trash that littered pretty much every inch of the place except for the bathroom and bedrooms. At least Phoenix managed to keep those places mostly tidy. He'd also need to wash and dust the floors and furniture. Not to mention figure out how to get out the mystery stains that nearly patched the the carpet and upholstered furniture like a quilting pattern.
There was something about cleaning that not only gave Miles the satisfaction of having a fresh home, but also cleared out his head. Perhaps it was because he had to focus on less stressful things to make sure it was done properly. Or maybe it was therapeutic for him in the same way raking sand in a rock garden is to a Buddhists monk. Whatever the reason Miles realized something as he started to stuff his second bag with trash. He was being an ass. This was sort of an epiphany for him and he stopped moving entirely so that it could process. Sure, he'd been having a hard time, but it wasn't exactly easy on his friends either.
Miles looked over the room again and almost smiled as his obsessive compulsion to clean gave way to wanting to do something nice for his loyal friend. He even started to hum a little as he stuffed the bag again.

Draco once again left the clinic in a more grim mood. He knew it wasn't going to be easy. The girl was not filing charges against Edgeworth, so he couldn't get hold of those files. He dialed up Valerie on his cellphone. Moment's later she picked up.

"Hello?"

"Valerie," Draco replied, fumbling for his keys with his free hand. "How's the investigation going so far?"

"Not good, I'm afraid," she said with a sigh. "Just about everything here had already been damaged or distroyed by the fire. The desk was the only thing left with little to no damage, though the only thing Gumshoe found were some case files. Well take them back and have them analyse, but I'm guessing they have no connection to this case."

"We'll see. I'd like to have a look at those files when you get back to the prescint."

"Will do. You heading there now?"

"Not yet, I'll need to make a quick by the courthouse. There's something I'll need to check on."

"Right, take care."

"I'll see you soon." Draco clicked his phone and ignited his car to life, taking off toward the courthouse.

Shelbie walked into the livingroom and ploped herself into the couch and turned the news on. Her eyes scaned the screen for a moment, a chill going down her spine. 'Someone walking on my grave?' Shelbie thought to herself, looking down at her hands. 'I can't stand it... All of these events going on.' She sighed out heavely.

Mia drove back to her office, deciding to focus on at least trying to get some work done. She should have gone back up and apologized to Miles, but after the events of the morning, she know she'd just end up in a yelling match.

Mia made a mental note to head over to the Prosecutor's Office at some point to see if she could get access to the old case files stored there. The intervention of this 'Montgomery Beluciano' added another layer to this already complicated case, and the more Mia knew about him the better.

Miles stopped mid motion when his cellphone rang. He answered it swiftly and even with a hint of a good mood in his tone.
"Miles Edgeworth." He held it to his ear with his shoulder as he cleaned. "Oh hi, dad." His mood dropped a little. "Fine." He answered stiffly. "She decided not to." He stuffed some more trash into the bag. "Right now I'm at Phoenix's apartment." He had to push the phone up some so it wouldn't slip off his ear. "He's fine." Miles glanced over at Nick. "Taking a nap at the moment." Miles went back to cleaning. "He's wearing a muddy hoodie and-" Miles glowered. "That's not funny, dad." He tied off the top of the filled bag and carried it to the kitchen. "I'm sure she's relieved that she doesn't have to defend me in court." Miles fetched another bag. "You feel like telling me why Montgomery Beluciano would want to help her in my defense?" Miles sighed. "Yeah, talk to you later." He snapped the phone shut and went back to cleaning.
