((They all call each other by last name in the game- He's being formal, not rude))

"Hey, Mercad," Zeth called quickly, grabbing Lucias' shoulder as he started to walk off, "I suggest that you start off with exactly WHAT he knows about the time of murder." Giving him a slight smirk, Zeth shrugged, "If Al really is guilty, then fine. I'm not going to prove otherwise, but if it's gonna be an innocent verdict, I'd rather the WHOLE truth came out finally. I can't stand all these lies this case has,"

((I know. Lucias is only hating it because Zeth is calling him that. Lol.))
~Lucias~
Lucias smiled playfully as Zeth told him to ask Don about the time of the murder.
"You underestimate me, Mr. Gant," he said. "You see, I wish to know the whole truth as well, whether or not your client is guilty. I wish to avoid Mr. Palochini telling stories as much as you do." He walked over to Don Palochini, waiting for him to join him.

Pausing for a moment as he watched Lucias walk towards the Don, Zeth's expression relaxed.

"Well, there you go," Zeth grinned as he turned away, "Looks like there is hope for this case after all." Dashing off to the prosecutors room, Zeth approached the door and knocked on it firmly 3 times.

"Machino, are you still in there? I need to move you back to the Defendant's lounge. The court has had a revelation." Zeth advised, waiting for a response.

"You better be joking." The man said. "Adding that to the court record will could make it look like you are attempting to forge evidence. Besides, that's not really water." He looked toward the door. "He didn't even test it."
--------------------------
"Didn't you hear the judge? I need time alone." Don told Lucias, in an annoyed tone. "Don't you have any respect for my predicament?" He asked.
--------------------------
"Hm?" Was heard on the opposite site of the door, follow by a sniffle.

"Good, he's still there.." Zeth grinned, entering the Prosecutor's lounge with a grin, spotting Al sitting down. Zeth walked up to his client and offered his hand, "Mercad should be coming in any minute to talk to Don Palochini about his testimony. I'll need to move you to the Defendants lounge insteed." Giving him a nod, Zeth continued, "It's a 15 minute recess for Don to 'calm his nerves'." Glancing towards the door, Zeth continued with a softer tone, "I hope you're a little calmer now, I'd like to ask a few more questions when we get back to the defendant's lounge if that's alright."

((Um- he wouldn't leave the Don alone btw- at best he'll be under security. I think his best bet is to con Lucias into playing ball on his team :nods: ))

"I realize you are in bad condition," Lucias acknowledged. "That, or you're merely acting." He leaned in closer to Don. "Look, I don't want to be stuck baby-sitting you, but it's my duty as a prosecutor to make sure the truth comes out. So, tell me about the time of the murder. I'm all ears."

~Martha~
"Oh, come on. Did you really think I'd put it in the official court record? It's just something I used to say all the time during investigations. So, this water that isn't really water will cure me?" Martha asked. "Maybe I should inject myself with it, then play dead. I know how to do it without even unplugging myself." She put the syringe up to her arm. Okay. Slight pinch on three. One, two...

"..." Al walked with Zeth to the Defense Lobby.
-----------------------
"You'll get your answers in court. Now leave me alone!" Don told Lucias.
-----------------------
"I told you, I don't know why that was there." The nurse from earlier said, before opening the door. The man jumped to hide behind the door. He and a doctor entered the room. "It was filled with water, though." He explained.

"Then it seems we are at an impasse. See, I'm not leaving, but you're not going to tell me anything," Lucias said. He smiled slightly. "But I am perfectly comfortable watching over you and not talking. Although, I doubt the witness stand is too comfortable on you. You can come to my lobby with me or we could stay here. Doesn't really matter."

~Martha~
Martha, in her hastiness, dropped the syringe back where it was. She smiled pleasantly at the nurse and doctor.
"Well, then I suppose I'm just having paranoid delusions," she said. "But then why would someone inject me with it? You'd think if someone wanted me to have my water, they'd just give me a glass of it." She laughed. "So, in that case, I should be fine, right? As long as I don't get poisoned again?"

((That's my Rosiey :) You tell that crook :edgeworth: ))

Leading Al Machino carefully down the corridor towards the defendant lounge, Zeth kept a suspicious eye open for undesired characters... such as perhaps Fernando Palochini. If what he says s true, and the mafia really IS involved, then he had to be on his toes.

(Does he find a wandering monster? Or do they get to the defendants lounge in one piece?)

((Random encounter! You guys fight some blobs! :V)).

Once they arrived, Al simply entered the Lobby.
------------------
"Or, you can go away and let me relax, and I won't tell the judge that you were harassing my during my time of relaxation." Don said, getting increasingly annoyed. "Like I said, I'll talk when court is back in session."
------------------
"Yeah, that's right. But who would give you a water-filled syringe in the first place? Seems kinda odd... Come on, let's let her rest." The doctor told the nurse, as they both walked out of Martha's room.

After they left, the man took out a cell phone and started texting.

~Lucias~
Lucias shrugged.
"You just hate when you can't control someone, don't you?" Lucias asked. He looked Don right in the eye. "It's my obligation as prosecutor to make sure the witness is properly protected, so I can't leave until I'm sure you are properly protected." He sat down in the nearest chair. "I won't pry you for an explanation, but I'll be watching you."

~Martha~
"Who are you texting?" Martha blurted. "Er...Just curious." She grabbed the syringe again. "You say this will cure me...Are there any side-effects I should be aware of before I inject myself with this?"

Finally adopting a more comfortable smirk, Zeth sat down on a couch and pulled out a note pad and paper.

"Machino, come on over and sit down," Zeth offered a spot beside him on the couch. Waiting for Al to sit down, he flicked open to a new page. Spotting a pitcher of water on a table in front of him with a few glasses, Zeth poured a few glasses and passed a cup to Machino. The water was still cold, so he assumed that it had just been put there on hearing their recess. Taking a short sip from his glass, Zeth smiled.

"OK, now we're determined that what the detective calls the 'murder weapon' has had a swapsey at some point with a gun owned by the owner of the restaurant. We're not sure if it's the original gun as its paperwork is incorrect, but the detective is dead set in hiding the evidence it presents." Leaning closer to Al, Zeth lowered his voice to a hush, "Fernando Palochini kept rabbiting on about some crime gang being involved, changing the evidence. It's apparent that atleast some of it is true cause the evidence doesn't add up." Taking another sip, Zeth closed his eyes thoughtfully for a moment before returning his attention to Al, "You... drew me a picture before. You were surrounded by alot of people. Were these people the members of the gang?"

((Wittle... wittle... wittle...))

"You'll be doing no such thing! Scram!" Don yelled. "I'll answer your damned questions in court!"
--------------------------
"Nothing negative, but once you inject yourself, start playing dead." The man said, ignoring the question about the texting. He put his cell phone away.
--------------------------
"It means nothing." Al said in despair.

Lucias raised an eyebrow. "Relax, Mr. Palochini. I'm just doing my job." I can't take my eye off a criminal. He pulled out a case file and began reading it, glancing above it to make sure Don wasn't doing anything. "You know, there are many interesting cases dealing with the mafia. The detective, Mr. Fernando Palochini claims the mafia is somehow involved in this case." He smiled very slightly. "And in this case, you may recall, a woman named Ms. Martha Fey had to be sent to the hospital because she was poisoned in this very courtroom." He held up a finger. "You can't tell me I'm the only one who sees a connection here."

~Martha~
Naturally, this man won't tell me anything. All he's focusing on is the plan...The plan which I'm depending upon for my very survival.
"Of course. I can play dead so well, I don't even have to unplug myself," Martha said. He didn't even mention the side-effects. Maybe they're so slight he doesn't see them as important? She grabbed the liquid-filled syringe and injected herself with what, she hoped, would cure her. Then, she started channeling a spirit who she knew didn't exist. Her heart stopped beating as she stared out into space...

"Al, you don't need to lie here," Zeth frowned, "It's a VERY simple yes no answer. Was there mafia involved? I don't care if it is a benefit to the defence or the prosecution. I want to know SOMETHING about this freak show murder cause it just doesn't add up! Was there Mafia involved?"

"Leave me alone!" Don yelled. "I'm trying to relax, but you keep stressing me with things I can address in court! If you keep this up, I will sue you for harassment! It is not your job to harass others!"
---------------------
Doctors and nurses were rushing in the hallway, conversing about the "dead" patient, when a group of doctors and lawyers burst through the same hallway. The lawyers stopped the doctors and nurses, while the doctors rushed into Martha's room.

"The patient's vital signs are non-existent!" A doctor yelled. "Get lab samples and results from this hospital's lab! We need to transfer the patient to a different hospital!"

Then Cecilia rushed in. "Hey! Leave her alone!" Cecilia yelled, as the doctors put Martha's limp body on a stretcher. "This hospital is currently unsafe for this patient! We are relocating the patient while investigating this hospital!" The same doctor yelled.

"We didn't even do anything!"

"Tell that to the patient! Her vitals are non-existent! We are transferring this patient to a different hospital while we figure out who injected her with water! Her condition is aggravated by water, as earlier concluded by this hospital, so we are investigating this hospital in an attempt to locate the guilty party! Now clear the way!" The doctors then rushed Martha out of the room as Cecilia stepped back to let them through.

But before Cecilia could exit the room, the man came up from behind and grabbed her, covering her mouth and dragging her feet back into the room...

"It doesn't matter..." Al said. "They are dead..."

((Rosie, get some security to restrain him. Or tell him that if he doesn't settle down he will. Lucias has the VERY same rights Don is bragging. Lucias has the right to do his job and not be harassed by witnesses into not doing his job. He's hostile... he may hit you ;) ))

"We can't change that, Machino," Zeth replied with a whisper, "What we CAN do, is bring their killer to justice with the law and bring out the truth. This way, what happened to your family may never happen to anyone else." Leaning closer, Zeth's eyes narrowed in determination, "You are the only one in this building that would be willing to admit the truth, Machino. You don't need to openly testify in court. I'll protect you from that. All I need to know is the truth."

Pausing for a moment, Zeth sighed quietly, to think things over. Tapping his arm a few times, Zeth hummed, "Ok. Tell me something NOT about the murder. Could you tell me the progressing before the murder? Maybe... What time your dinner was? Anything."

"I'm sure you know your rights as well as anybody, Mr. Palochini," Lucias said. "You can sue me for harassment once this case is over." He pulled out another lollipop. "However, your case would be extremely weak. Now, if you refuse to settle down, then I suppose I'll have to call security. For now, let's just play nice." He looked back at the case file, still looking at Don over the top of it to make sure he didn't try anything.

((Arkillian, your tips remind me of a flash series I intend to base a case on, if not a whole RP)).

Al sobbed, then sniffled. He isn't going to say a word about the night of the murder. But what can you expect who had no idea that a murder had occurred, especially when your family was the victim.
------------------
"Why do you keep staring at me?!" Don said, growing agitated. "Unlike your case, I have plenty of proof against you! You're the one who keeps asking questions that could be answered in court," Don took a sharp, deep breath in, "and cutting into time that's supposed to be used for relaxation!"

((Heheh... Yeah. I am by NO means a law expert, but I've seen enough law through my research for Turnabout Attorney that I know that Don is talking out of his ass XD He's a scarey Mafia guy though, so playing pussycat isn't an option. You need to corner this guy with undeniable law and logic before he'll give in, or better yet... just let him ran for the next 15 minutes XD It'll only stump his case more cause he can't get a second recess XD Lucias isn't being rude or irate. He's being rational. Don is obviously guilty as sin- specially since he has proof against the PROSECUTION of all people XD Lol. Who's he fighting? ;) Maybe Lucias needs to investigate Don's irate nervousness >:) Sorry though- I'll stop metagaming XD ))

((Hrm- does Zeth know that Al isn't aware of what happened that night?))

"Hrrrm... OK," Zeth tapped his forehead a few times considering a new plan of attack, "Tell me a bit about your family then, Machino." Zeth smiled, trying to lighten the subject a little, "Could you tell me a bit about them? Your wife, Mary. What were they like?"

((OK... This can be a completely small talk type question, but if Al doesn't know that his family was murdered... what if they WEREN'T murdered and he was pinned for it, and the 'family' thing was a scare tactic of some sorts? You know... like a bunch of randoms were murdered instead? Wouldn't that be freaking bastardly of the Don? XXDD Cause I mean, if Al had a single clue at ALL that his family were dead, he'd pin him immediately. This is just about bizarre enough and PW enough to be the case... O.o ))

When the doctors, along with Martha, left the hospital, they rechecked her vitals. "Is she seriously dead?" A doctor asked. "If not, she's a really good actor." The same doctor said, as they loaded Martha into an ambulance.

"Tell me something that WILL help me then, Machino," Zeth challenged, "Not telling me anything is only hurting my chances at getting a not guilty for you. When I go back into that courtroom, I'll be no better off than I was at the beginning of recess, while the Don will be ready to retort every question I have because he will have time to come up with an alibi. Now," Leaning back, Zeth crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, "Are you employing me for my good looks? Or do you want me to defend you? Because if you want me to defend you, I MUST have some new ammo for when recess finishes. I can't keep hoping the witness will slip up."

"I keep staring at you because I know of your other job besides being the owner of the restaurant," Lucias replied simply. "I never go into a case without doing at least some research on the witnesses. Oh, and your appeal to force fallacy will not work on me. It is my responsibility to know what you will say on the stand before you actually testify so I can be prepared. Since you won't tell me what you'll say, I'm just chatting with you." He smirked. "I know the mafia's connected to this case, but I believe it is reverse of what Mr. Palochini said. They are not trying to forge evidence and make a guilty man look innocent. Rather, they are trying to make an innocent man look guilty, but it won't work. Mr. Gant is relatively smart, so is the judge, and so am I. We'll reveal the truth together, no matter what it might be." He looked down at his watch. "There's still ten minutes left of this recess. I will not talk anymore after this. You can tell me what you're going to say if you want. You can yell at me if you want. But I will not respond." And with that, Lucias went back to reading the case file and looking at Don over the top of it.

~Martha~
She could hear the voices of doctors and nurses, saying they were moving her to another hospital. That she died under their care. Even one of the doctors asked if she was seriously dead, and concluded she must be a really good actor if she wasn't. No, I'm actually a horrible actor, but I am a spirit medium, and that's good enough. She wanted to stop trying to channel Al, but she couldn't allow herself to stop. Not when they were double-checking her vitals.

"Are you implying that I'm involved with the mafia!? It's because I own an Italian restaurant, isnt it?!" Don asked. "Eh?! Watching too much of that Godfather movie before the trial, haven't you?! Despicable! Have you any real evidence for such a claim?! Dammit! I don't need these accusations! My business is going to go down enough as it is; I don't need you attorneys making things worse for my restaurant!" And it goes on and on...
----------------------
An attorney, back at the hospital, took out a cell phone and tried to call Zeth, the current attorney for Al's case.
----------------------
The man, currently taking Cecilia hostage, tried to call Lucias, the prosecution.

The doctors in the ambulance simply waited until they arrived at the hospital.

Don took the phone. "What is-" He was cut off.

"I know about the deal." The man said.

"What de-"

"Your daughter was the one who was in charge of poisoning the defense attorney, wasn't she?"

"My daughter-"

"Is in my possession. Do as I say and she won't be hurt. You are currently in checkmate."

"What?! You're bluffing!"

"Wanna speak to her?"
----------------------
The man handed the phone to Cecilia.
----------------------
"Daddy! I'm-uhhhhhh...."

"What happened!?" Don demanded.

"I knocked her out. I don't want you to know where she's located. Not yet, at least. But she's fine."

"... What do you want?" Don asked.

"I'll speak to you later. Do yourself a favor and comply to the wishes of the prosecution, regardless of what the purpose of your recess is." The man hung up.

Don then handed the phone back to Lucias.

"Hm..." Lucias grabbed the phone back and put it up to his ear for a moment, listening to the recording of the call. He held his head and sighed. "I didn't expect someone would kidnap your daughter. Even if she was responsible for poisoning Ms. Fey and possibly killing her, it isn't right to make you do things against your will because you think your daughter will die if you don't." He walked back over to his seat. "Tell me what happened at the time of the murder if you want to. If you don't, fine. We'll sit here and relax, like we were supposed to." He licked his lollipop. "I'm not going to force you to do anything."

"So, I guess that means we're relaxing," Lucias said, acting impervious to Don's glare. Then, his phone rang yet again. "Well, aren't I the popular one today?" He answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Hello again, it's me." The man said. "I feel like I'm forgetting something important. Did I tell you that Don is the Don of a crime syndicate?" He asked.

"I figured as much. Still doesn't feel right to threaten him about his daughter," Lucias answered honestly. He chuckled. "My morals have a way of holding me back sometimes, even though I've been accused of being a sleazy prosecutor before. Did you call just to tell me that, Mr. Random Stranger?"

"It was, but due to the nature of Don's status, I must ask you to stay out of the affairs that are outside of the law. You pretty much have to work within the law, but Don isn't afraid to break it, even if it means having you killed. And, unfortunately, the law can't really stop people like Don. I suggest that you leave these types of affairs to me. Right now, he's pretty much forced to obey the law."

"Stay out of the affairs outside the law...So, you mean to tell me I should only be concerned with his testimony and nothing else, right?" Lucias asked. "I will bear that in mind. But, I know that in the law, kidnapping, no matter how justified, is reprehensible." He took his voice down to a low whisper. "Just don't harm Mr. Palochini's daughter, whether or not he decides to answer my questions, okay?"

"Clearly you don't understand your, nor his position." The man said, his tone becoming more offensive. "He is a crime lord, the Don, the Boss, the Godfather, and so forth. You mess with him and he'll mess with you. The law won't save you, nor anyone else, from his resources. The only way to handle such individuals is to play on their terms. Negotiate all you want, you'd be wasting time on things that aren't within your jurisdiction. I say get 'em while he's in the law's grasp. I did my part, you do yours, regardless of your role as federal prosecutor."
