Steel had really enjoyed that cup of coffee. It had vitalized him, given him the boost he needed after lying in a bed for so long. Maybe it was the warmth that covered his blood. Whatever it was, it woke him up... at 7 PM.
He was quietly looking at nowhere through a window he was facing, at a faraway city. He was thinking, it was really strange how the amount of lights there were was so scarce. It usually was a whole flash during the night.
Flash. That was the keyword. That was what interrumpted his calm view. He saw a huge flash coming from what seemed the center of the city. He stood up, and went outside to take a closer look.
Once out, he could see it more closely. Now there were more lights, but small ones. He felt an urge he had to go there, for some reason. After all, it would be just to check out why the lack of lights. It was probably just a blackout, he thought, but went anyway.
When he was almost inside the city, he was shocked by what he saw: the front buildings, which faced the Resistance HQ, were completely destroyed. He stopped abruptly, and examined the remnants from closer. He could see... bodies. But they weren't burned... Was that manual work? He had to enter deeper into the city, he just had.
He stopped running between the buildings when he saw a distant light. He ran some more, and was next to the light. It was fire, to his left. And next to it was a silhouette of- what was that?! It looked like a person, but... with more... arms? Whatever it was, it was looking for something.
"Where are you?", the thing shouted, starting to destroy buildings with the extra arms, which seemed a lot like tentacles.
It was looking for someone, not something, he thought. And this is the thing that has been destroying the city, I'm sure of it.
Steel waited some more to see what happened, before doing anything.
((Steel will step in when Anthony finds BlackJack.
Also, @book_wyrm: I think Xavil could be out doing something unrelated, since there's barely noone in the Resistance HQ right now. But regarding Zarran, Shadow and Xavier, I don't know.

But another blast of light exploded and rendered him blind, again. He roared and his tentacles-now larger- spun in enormous circles around him as he fired bullets in every direction.

A spotlight! From atop a far off building!
Its high-powered beam shines directly on The Tentacle Man.
Then another! Then another! And another!
Four high powered lights were focused on Tentacle Man, who stumbled back, dazed. His tentacle shrunk till the were little bigger than a foot.
Never would have guessed that my anti-blackout project would be so useful.
"Well, now that you've lightened up, we can have some real fun."
BlackJack jumps from his perch atop one of the half-destroyed buildings. He rolls as he lands, and throws three shuriken at the tortured Tentacle Man.

He hid behind a wall and cursed, firing bullets at the now-illuminated man. His eye sight recovered slowly.

BlackJack was in full, egotistical hero mode. He charged The Tentacle Man, who was more of a Man now. The tentacles writhed and retreated almost completely.
Are they sentient?
Blackjack filed that thought away for another time and tossed a few more shuriken as he worked to dodge The Man's gunfire.
He managed to find a free moment and grabbed a 2-foot length of pipe that was on the ground. He dashed at The Man and leaped for the final blow.

He launched a dulled tentacle straight at the attacker's stomach, which unfortunately would not impale him but still had enormous force. Like a punch in the gut, the tentacle rammed his abdomen, and Anthony quickly disarmed him, training the gun on his head. "You're a devious little bastard, you know that?" he growled.
((Dun dun dun! Remember, I can't kill you, so any time we get eachother on the ropes, there has to be some kind of wiggle-away.))

Tentacle Man (now Tentacle Man again) had turned the tables. BlackJack had the wind knocked out of him, and now Tentacle Man had him on the ropes.
Damn. I ran in without thinking.
Tentacle Man smirked, "You're a real bastard, you know that?"
"I've been told, yeah." BlackJack spat. He was keeping up his cocky attitude.
I can't show weakness now....
Tentacle Man cocked the pistol, clearly not amused.
BlackJack had been in messes like this before, but if he was going to defeat this guy, or even get out alive, something was going to have to happen fast.

The Tentacle Man's eyes narrowed. Then he smirked. "Wrong answer."
Then BlackJack whipped out his pocket flashlight and shined Tentacle Man in the face.
Tentacle Man flinched. He fired, but missed. BlackJack threw down a smoke pellet and disappeared. ((i.e. ran, but to Anthony he disappeared :P))
Tentacle Man fired at the darkness, but didn't hit anything but brick wall and trash cans.
BlackJack could hear Tentacle Man roaring in rage as he ran back to base.
Much as I hate to admit it, I can't take this guy down alone....

Steel saw how everything was happening. It was really fast, hard to follow. BlackJack, or the man that really looked like him, was actually doing great against a... thing like that. What was it, anyway? It looked like a man... with... they looked like tentacles now. When "BlackJack" started throwing shuriken, Steel confirmed it: it was BlackJack.
Suddenly, the Tentacle Man ((heh)) captured BlackJack, and aimed a gun directly to his forehead. Steel saw this as the moment to step in, but, before he could do anything, BlackJack was taking out a flashlight and pointing it at the Tentacle Man, which inmediately reacted. It seemed like light hurt him... But that wasn't the problem now. BlackJack had escaped from the Tentacle Man, but not for long. If Steel was going to step in, he was going to step in now.
He jumped to the middle of the street, put his gloves on and took his gun, holding it with one hand, and pointing his other hand to a bunch of building rubble. Luckily for him, most, if not all buildings had metallic basements, so he had the "skeleton" of the now destroyed buildings at his disposal.
Steel moved his hand quickly towards the Tentacle Man, and a large piece of metal followed his movement. It hit the Tentacle Man, who turned around, and Steel shot three bullets at what he could quickly recognize as his face.

BlackJack stopped. He turned and saw Steel attack the Tentacle Man, who was taken by surprise.
I can't just leave him like that.
But if I help him now, we might not win.
But the Tentacle Man is too powerful for Steel by himself.
But the searchlights still give Steel an advantage. You have to hurry.
BlackJack sprinted to the base. He dove into his lab. It was still in shambles. BlackJack sighed as he saw the all the rubble, broken glass and sparking wires.
He moved some rubble and found what he was looking for.
As he ran back to the battle, he thought, Hold on, Steel.

"Hey, Aria. It's been a while," Exo said, running down the next flight of stairs. She turned, and saw two metal security doors blocking the way to the dungeons. She thrust her katana into them, but it didn't so much as dent the metal. Then, she heard voices.
"Up, Aria," was all she could say before hiding into the shadows. The two men calmly thrust their ID cards into the slots, and put their hands on it, letting it analyze their finger prints. The doors opened, and the men walked through. Exo dashed after them, purposely dropping her gun in between the doors. She heard the gun crash apart. She hoped Aria managed to get past them...

She grabbed onto the side of Dies' shirt that wasn't on fire yet and yanked him into a position she had a good shot at the burning area. In a flash, she splashed half the bottle of (modified) water over the flames. It went out with a hiss, giving her a good sight of the burns and blisters that now riddled his shoulder and back.
"Not too bad..." Carmen said with an absent nod, "if it got treatment at least. Give it a few days and it'll be green and black with infection."
Which, as they had learned in D.I.G., made a great timer to how efficient the D.I.G. employee was. Infection usually killed the victim in a week, meaning either the victim had one hell of a will or the employee sucked and needed to be sent back to training, possibly as test dummies.
Carmen didn't plan on dragging this out to a week or even a few days, though for albeit different reasons.
She let go of her hold him.
"Still have nothing to say?" She said quietly, repeating her question from earlier.

OK, I'll post a little text about BlackJack running.))
The attack had worked; well, mostly: the metal piece hit the Tentacle Man, but it managed to dodge the bullets.
At least I helped..., he thought.
The Tentacle Man roared in anger, and was approaching Steel. He readied himself and his gun, and saw BlackJack run away.
What the-! Where is he-? ...It's OK, I guess. I rather die myself than let a friend die... Who am I kidding? Come back here!!!
He hadn't realized how powerful the Tentacle Man was, or at least looked, but now, seeing him front-to-front, and with the help of the fire that was illuminating some of the scene, Steel could see something beyond a man in the Tentacle Man.

Anthony looked to the man firing at him and his eyes narrowed in rage. "You little...!" As he felt stronger, the Darkness protected him from the bullets, and he counterattacked with a powerful jab with his tentacles, running forward and spraying bullets.

Steel managed to dodge the tentacle, and was amazed to dodge the first bullets, since the tentacle had come so fast he barely had time to respond.
He kept dodging as many bullets as he could, and shielding the rest with a bunch of metal shields he had made from building-rubble. He kept running, and throwing the metal pieces at the Tentacle Man after shielding himself with them, then replacing them with others.
Quick, BlackJack! I won't be able to hold much longer...

This was starting to be too much for Steel. He wouldn't be able to keep dodging and shielding himself for longer. He would have to attack him by surprise... and in bigger proportions, it seemed.
He saw a hole between buildings to his left, and hid, quickly running behind the buildings. Most were destroyed, but the left ones were useful. He used a metal piece to hover up, and stood in the roof of a building, hiding behind the rooftop-elevator. He looked to both his sides. He would have to do something big... and quick.

He slammed the building next to Steel's to intimidate him. "You'd better think quick!" He mocked, throwing a tentacle at the upper levels of Steel's building. "I'm just sorry I can't kill you with my hands!"

Steel jumped from the building where he was to the one to his other side ((not the one Anthony destroyed)), before a tentacle slammed through the building.
Wait-! The buildings!
Steel quickly started throwing the metal leavings of the buildings the Tentacle Man destroyed towards him, as quickly as he could.
If this doesn't stop him, I just don't know what I'm going to do...

He couldn't possibly escape now, so he ducked down and The Darkness covered him with the tentacles, protecting him from the falling building.
They cannot stop us... Anthony heard. Now we are in complete darkness...

Steel laughed nervously, and kept throwing pieces of buildings he could find at the Tentacle Man. He started to throw everything he could find at him. THIS was his concept of a big surprise attack.
The Tentacle Man was now covering itself with the tentacles. Cornered!, he thought. He kept tossing metal at him, then took his gun out, and started shooting. He would need to damage those tentacles. Then it would be a piece of cake. Steel smirked, and kept attacking. Did he even need BlackJack now...? ((lol overconfidence))

Exo didn't have time to worry about Aria as the two men turned around and saw her. One smiled. This is the catch Zarran's been waiting for, he thought, shooting fire at Exo. She ran out of the way and ran towards him as fast as she could, but she tripped over a puddle of eyes.
"Tsk. You'll have to be more creative than that," said the water man. Exo realized why they entered together...They worked together to torture victims. The fire guy would set them on fire. The water guy would extinguish the fires and they'd keep doing that until the victim talked. She made that realization as she crashed into the wall. She turned back around and leaped at the two supers, throwing her katana in front of her so as to stop them from blocking the attack.
The fire guy caught the sword, and the water guy wrapped Exo up in his water and pulled her towards him.
((I hope no one minds if I don't post a profile for these guys. They're only temporary characters.))

"I'd say I'd meet him there, but that isn't the case, unfortunately," Anthony said back, and focused his energy.
The tentacles exploded outward, sending lethal velocity torpedoes of metal and shrapnel in all directions. The darkness of the rubble gave Anthony a temporary immunity to the light, and he threw an enormous tentacle around him in a circle, slicing through every building in the vicinity.
"That's what you get for getting cocky, asshole!" Anthony shouted, throwing tentacles at some of the spotlights as well.

When he thought it was over, Steel stared at the Tentacle Man in awe. All the noises had made him only hear a loud and constant beeping sound in his head. He was surprised to realize it, but he was seeing how the Tentacle Man was throwing a huge tentacle around him in... slow motion? The beeping sound continued, and he saw the worst coming.
Every single building around the Tentacle Man was reduced to almost nothing, just dust, when the enormous tentacle smashed them to the ground.
Steel stood still for a second, and when the building he was standing on collapsed, he couldn't react, and fell with it.
He could barely feel his body. He couldn't even feel the pain of his broken bones. He had fallen around 10 stories. He was lucky to be alive... but not for much, since the Tentacle Man hadn't had enough. He couldn't move, and was too weak to do anything. He kept struggling to get up, but lost to gravity. He just lyed there, hoping for a miracle...

THE SPOTLIGHTS! THEY DESTROYED TWO OF THE SPOTLIGHTS! ((when you guys destroyed buildings))
BlackJack knew that without the aid of the spotlights, there was no way that Steel could take the Tentacle Man by himself in his condition.
But his secret weapon was weighing him down, he was slow to get back.
Dammit! I've been gone too long! Who knows what happened to Steel by now?
When he finally arrived, he saw that Tentacle Man had Steel on the ropes, and he was back to full power.
Not good. Well, here goes nothing.
"I'm back, you no-good son of a bitch!" BlackJack shouted.
Tentacle Man turned his head. His eyes focused on BlackJack.
BlackJack pulled up his weapon. He pulled the trigger.
Nothing.
Shit.

"I'm curious: how did you figure that would work?" he asked. He threw another water disk at her, but it expanded and expanded into a huge sphere, big enough to encase her in it.
"How are you going to attack me...When you can't breathe?"
The fire guy handed Exo her sword.
"I pity you. Zarran has much worse in store for you," he explained. The dome started closing in on them, forcing Exo to step forward. She found it hard to breathe. The heat was unbearable. And, worse still, the guy pulled out a teleporter.
"No more harm will come to you or your friend if you just come with me," he said. Exo had to think hard and fast. She pulled out her gun and shot the teleporter out of his hand before running towards him, sliding under and punching upwards. The fire guy jumped up before she could land that hit, disappearing into the fire.
"You had your chance," he said. The fire dome closed in even more...
