Mia let out a frusturated sigh. The case files at the Prosecutor's office had provided very little information on Beluciano himself. His thugs were proven to be involved in only two or three cases. Leaning back in the uncomfortable fold out chair that she'd been sitting in for nigh two hours now (or was it three? She was starting to lose track...) She ran a hand through her hair. After glaring at the offending case files, she stood and threw on her coat. She wasn't going to get the answers she needed here.

"There." Miles smiled with gratification. He'd managed to clean up all that garbage and tidy whatever was not. Now he only needed to clean the floors and furniture. Of course doing so could grunge up his nice suit. He'd need to change, but going home to find work clothes would be such a hassle. Not to mention possibly dangerous to his health. Nick wouldn't care if he borrowed a couple of items. Miles wandered into his room and sifted through his closet. Eventually he came out with a t-shirt and some pajama bottoms. Nick had a smaller waist than Miles so he needed something with elastic in it. He then entered the kitchen in search of cleaning supplies.

Mia looked up at Phoenix's apartment building and sighed. She hadn't been looking forward to another confrontation with Miles, but her own search on Beluciano had run into a brick wall. She needed to talk to Gregory, but to do that she'd need his number first. She quickly made her way up the apartment, wanting to get this over as quickly as possible.

Miles sprayed that damnable spot again. The bleach was not helping that carpet get white again.
"Who buys a white carpet with brown furniture and red curtains?" He grumbled to himself and scrubbed. "And for heavens sakes they could at least take off their shoes before walking on it." His brush went over an obvious shoe print. "And I don't even want to know what this stain is from." He glared at the strange brown stain an inch or so away.

Mia walked up and lightly knocked on the door. She hoped Miles hadn't decided to end his cleaning fit and head back to his apartment, although if he'd intended to give Phoenix's place a thorough cleaning, he'd probably be there 'til doomsday...

"Out! Out damnedable spot!" He snapped and scrubbed. With some determination and elbow grease he managed to get one patch of the carpet white again. "HA HA!" He pointed at it in triumph. "Perish filthy mess!"

Mia raised her hand, preparing to knock again. However she stopped her hand mid motion as she heard Miles' voice through the door. Suppressing a chuckled at his rather odd pronouncements, Mia knocked a bit harder on the door, hoping to get miles' attention this time.

Miles rolled his eyes and got up. He considered just yelling that the door was open, but not until he was already standing next to it. He swung it open and looked down at Mia Fey, her hand raised and ready to knock for a third time.
"He's still sleeping." Miles said rather dully and as if he were about to shut the door in her face.

Mia put a hand on the door in case Miles did decide to try and shut it on her face. "I didn't want to talk to him; I need to talk to you. My investigation into Beluciano hit a dead end. You mentioned your father defended one of this men once, so I was hoping maybe I could get his number from you."

Miles grunted slightly and walked back into the apartment. He went over to his maroon blazer hanging off a chair and fished out his cellphone. Then he tossed it to Mia.
"Good luck." He muttered. Then walked back to his clean patch on the carpet and attempted to make another.

Mia moved into the kitchen area (so as not to be disturbed by any more snapping at inanimate objects) and flipped down the contacts list until she saw the right number and hit call. As she heard it ring on the other line, hoped that Gregory had his phone on him while he was gallavanting around Hawai'i.

After the third ring, a chipper voice came across the line, "Gregy Edgey pleasure cruise. The non stop stop to pants that drop. How will I be filling your order?"

Mia was almost positive she'd gotten the wrong number. "Er...Mr. Edgeworth?"

"Oh, Ms. Fey. My apologies. I thought you were my son."

"Oh...I see."

"What can I do for you?"

"Well, I'd like to ask you about Montogmery Beluciano."

"I have just learned the most facinating thing. Apparently there are these little elf people called the menehune that the hawaiians believe lived on these islands before the Polynesians."

"I...That's fascinating Mr. Edgeworth, but that doesn't help me any."

"Apparently their favorite food is the mai'a or banana. Of course I only really bring them up at all because the menehune drove out the nawao which were a wild, large-sized hunting people."

Mia's tone became accusing. "You're avoiding the topic, Mr. Edgeworth. This man is involving himself in Miles' situation and I'd like to have an idea of who I'm going to have to deal with."

Gregory's tone sobered very quickly. "I'm not avoiding it at all, Ms. Fey. I just wanted to share because I found it all very ironic."

"How so?"

"Well, you see, Monty did a very similar thing. He stabbed his father in the chest and took over the family business. His father was a very large and angry man. It's just sort of funny that you would bring him up right after the tour."

"Mr. Egdeworth, can you tell me everything you know about him?"

"Everything? Or just what's relevant to the case?"

"I don't know what'd be relevant right now, so anything you could tell me would be helpful."

Gregory's tone became playful again. "Are you sure? I wouldn't want to spoil any fun surprises. But then you are the sort of girl who likes to know how the movie ends before you go to watch it, aren't you?"

Mia tried to keep the irritation out of her tone, but a trace could still be heard. "Mr. Edgeworth, just this morning I was threatened into accepting evidence I don't even know is legitimate while Phoenix was given a severe beating outside. I'd rather not have any more surprises if they're like that."

"Ah, well I can assure you the evidence would be entirely legitimate if Monty is giving it to you. As for young Mr. Wright, I'm very sorry to hear that. Wish him well for me, would you?"

"I will, but..why would Beluciano feel the need to get involved?"

"Probably because of young Melissa. She always was his favorite. Even though she takes after her mother. Then again, that might be why she's his favorite."

Mia paused for a moment, not quite sure of what she had just heard. "Wait...Melissa Parks is...?"

"Melissa Beluciano."

"She's related?! how?"

Gregory's voice sounded for all the world like a kid who'd just shown his friends a new toy. "She's the youngest of three."

"His daughter? Then...why is he offering to help Miles? That doesn't makes sense...."

"Well I would assume that he doesn't want my boy to go to jail. It would likely break his poor girl's heart."

"But if she's pressing charges...."

"I doubt it was her idea."

Mia pinched the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger. "This isn't making things any clearer...This whole situation is all kinds of screwed up. If this does go to court, I'll have to prove that Parks was the one who kidnapped and drugged Miles as well as purposely arsoned the office..."

"Well she isn't pressing charges is she?"

"No, I don't believe so, but if she doesn't Miles might for deliberate arson."

Gregory sounded amused at that suggestion. "I doubt that."

"Why do you say that?"

"Because I'm afraid, my dear, that Miles was born without a set of balls."

A trace of a smile flitted across Mia's face. "Don't let him hear you say that....and he seemed pretty adamant about that earlier."

"Well, what is my son doing right now?"

[ooc: sorry, for the double post, but I couldn't fit the whole thing in one.]

Miles' voice echoed from the living room. "CURSE YOU FOUL STAIN!"

Mia couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Um...cleaning the carpet....and talking to it."

"And how long has he been doing that?"

"I don't know, He's been cleaning the place for a couple of hours at least, though..."

"Instead of talking with the police to find any sort of evidence he could use to get little Ms. Melissa arrested?"

Mia sighed, Clearly frustuerated. "...Point taken. So then, I should just let this slide? After all the trouble I've gone through to investigate this?"

"Of course not. In fact, if you don't mind, I'd like for you to press my boys buttons."

Mia was quiet for a beat and a small smirk formed on her lips. "...How hard?"

Gregory sounded incredibly chipper as he responded, "As hard as you like. The only reason he's even still in the country is because he's not had time to buy a plane ticket. The only way I know to motivate him otherwise is to aggravate him until he gives in."

Mia's smirk became a full fledged wolfish grin. "Considering he's still irritated at me, I think I can manage this alright. Anything I should know about the Beluciano situation before I go commenece with the button pushing?"

"Hmmm." Gregory was so quiet that for a bit Mia almost thought that he'd hung up on her. "If he offers you chocolate don't take it. There's a special sort of poison he's fond of that doesn't show up on a autopsy if it's mixed with cacao."

Mia felt an involuntary shudder run through her. "I'll keep that in mind...Thank you for your help, Mr. Edgeworth."

"My pleasure."

Miles scoffed in triumph at yet another stain deftly removed by his hands. However he popped upright too quickly and in a moment of lightheadedness continued moving until he'd rolled onto his back. While he was down there he managed to notice the filth on the ceiling.
"How do you manage to muck up a ceiling?!" He snapped.

Mia walked back in after hanging up the phone and looked up at the ceiling. She found herself chuckling slightly. "I'd assume that'd be Mr. Butz's doing. The man certainly knows how to mess up a place, I'll give him that."

"Are you still here?" He glanced over at Mia from his place on the floor then proceeded to sit up. "I take it the talk with my old man was an utter failure." He grumbled and went back to cleaning the carpet. He had three patches of white on it now. "I swear I think the man knows the answer to life itself but won't utter a word because he's afraid he'll spoil it for everyone." He scrubbed furiously.

Miles stopped scrubbing for a moment, but decided not to say anything. Despite his nonchalance it was obvious he was bothered since he was scrubbing a spot that was already clean. When he noticed he growled and moved on to another area.

"Obviously." He hadn't looked up at her since he was laying on the floor. He reached over to spray some more bleach onto the carpet and scrubbed again. His strokes were slow and steady now. His arms were starting to get tired.

"The damned spots can hear me. They quiver in fear of my warcry!" Miles snapped and pointed at one of the lightened areas with his brush. He went back to scrubbing, but as he pushed forward he just sort of sighed and stayed there a moment before speaking again. "I just want to do Phoenix a favor." He explained and went back to scrubbing.

Mia couldn't help but roll her eyes at Miles' claim that the soiled carpet could hear him. That cleaner really was going to his head..."Is that really the reason you're driving yourself insane via bleach? Or are you just avoiding going back to your own apartment because Psycho Mcstalksalot will most likely be hanging around?"

Miles purposefully didn't answer her again, but this time he was muttering to himself instead of staying silent. What exactly it was he was muttering was a bit unclear, but it probably wasn't anything pleasant. When he'd finished he sprayed the carpet again.

"She's just a little girl. There's nothing to be scared of." It was hard to tell if he were simply making a statement, or trying to reassure himself. Miles sprayed the bottle again, but nothing happened. He'd run out of bleach. "FUCK!"

Mia's eyebrows shot up at the use of the expletitive. "So..there's no reason for you to be bothered by Melissa Parks, yet you're sitting in your friends apartment, wearing some of his clothes, I might add, cleaning. On top of that you're cursing. You never curse. There's quite a bit wrong with this picture, wouldn't you say, Miles?"

"I told you. I'm here because I want to do Phoenix a favor and clean this mess of an apartment. I'm only wearing his clothes because I didn't want to muddy my own." He finally looked over at her. "And my choice of words is absolutely no business of yours." Miles got up and walked towards the kitchen, but to get in he had to walk past Mia. He stood there and stared down at her, waiting for her to move out of the way rather than just squeeze past her.

Mia returned the stare with a glare of her own. "That's not the whole story and you know it, Miles. If you aren't scared of Melissa Parks, why haven't you pursued that deliberate arson charge you claimed you would earlier? Or why haven't you talked with the police regarding the investigation?"

"Because I want to get this done before Phoenix wakes up." Miles answered simply. "I'm hoping to surprise him." Miles folded his arms across his chest. "Do you absolutely have to stand there? Can't you lecture me in a more out of the way part of the building? Like out in the hall maybe."

Mia's tone dripped sarcasm. "When I could be here blocking your way? I wouldn't dream of it. Miles, you'd told me prior to your encounters with Melissa Parks that you'd intended to go to you office and assess the damage, talk to the police and the insurance guys. Then, out of the blue, you're sitting here in your friends' apartment cleaning."

"Why do you insist on questioning me, woman?!" Miles thundered. "I've already told you the answer! What are you expecting me to suddenly say something different?! Are you that utterly daft?!" He pushed past her at this point, yanked the gallon jug of bleach out from under the sink, and poured it into the spray bottle just as he had the first time.

Mia hid a smirk, glad she was starting to get a rise out of the normally imperturbable Miles Edgeworth. "Because, Miles, you're not giving me a straight answer. What you say keeps contradicting with how you're acting; it's fairly easy to see you're lying to my face."

"I have every intention of doing those things." Miles spilled some of the bleach onto the table. He jumped back when it splattered onto the floor. "At a more decent hour tomorrow." He glared at Mia as if it were her fault he spilled the stuff. "If you don't mind I have a long night ahead of me." He wanted to rip some paper towels off the roll, but they didn't tear and instead he ended up just unraveling and collecting most of the sheet in his hand before he managed to yank them from the rest. Then he just used the entire wad to sop up the mess.

"What are you babbling about now?" The annoyance in his voice was pretty evident. "Ugh, nevermind." He muttered and got up. Miles tossed the bleach soaked paper towels into the trash and grabbed up his newly filled spray bottle. Then he pushed past Mia again and went back to the spot he'd been scrubbing before. "When you've finished with the prattle let me know and I'll lock the door when you leave."

Mia sighed. "You seem to have a knack for avoiding the topic at hand. Your father's good at that too, come to think of it...Well, I can't see that I'm going to get anywhere with this." She turned and started to the door, muttering just loud enough for Miles to hear. "Guess your father was right about you being a coward, after all..."

"Gk." The entire left side of his face twitched when she said that. He knew exactly what she was trying to do. His father did it all the time, just trying to aggravate him just because it would get him to do what he wanted. They were probably discussing tactics in the kitchen. "Where do you get off, lady?!" Miles roared much like a teenager would yell at his parents. Ironically this was something that Miles had never done. "I mean, what were you expecting to happen here?! I've just lost an entire day of my life where I was tied to a bed and kept doped up by some crazy stalker! Which, by the way, I'm pretty sure was going to, if not already, rape me!" He had to take a breath after that. "So, yeah, maybe I am scared out of my mind right now! Maybe I did just come here because I didn't want to spend the night alone! I'm sorry that you think you have to try and make me man up just because some guy who happens to think of you as more than just boobs on legs got beat up by some thugs!"

Mia's eyes narrowed and she strode over and grabbed the collar of Miles' T-shit to bring his face level with hers. Her tone was cold and harsh. "The question is where do you get off? Here's a news flash for you: yes, terrible shit just happened to you, but guess what? It's going to GET worse unless you get your act together, which judging by the way that you ran to safety like a kicked dog, you won't unless someone kicks your ass in the right direction! Phoenix and I've been trying to HELP you, and you have the gall to tell me off?! You're lucky you have people willing to stick their necks out for you, considering the way you act!"

"Safe?! In the home of a man who can't even protect himself?!" Miles threw his arm in Nick's direction. "Please!" His eyes flared and he stood up making him a good two inches taller than Mia. Not that that was really threatening for her. "And I EXPECT Phoenix to help me because we've been friends our entire lives! You! You on the other hand are just an acquaintance. A passing fancy that I've decided to tolerate because he likes you! So yes, I think I have every right to tell you off because not only are you basically a complete stranger, but you also seem to think that you can manipulate me to get what you want! I get enough of that from the old man I don't need some TART te-" Miles was interrupted by a pillow smacking him in the face. On the couch sat a very sleepy and very grumpy Phoenix. He got up and muttered to himself as he pushed between the two to get to his room.
"Damn kids......keep fighting....won't get off my lawn...." He grumbled and slammed the door behind himself.
Mia and Miles were stunned into silence for a moment after that.

Mia felt a small smile briefly flit across her face at Phoenix's half conscious behavior. Her eye's flicked over to Miles' face and her anger came back, though it was more of a dull frustration (and a migraine) now. She pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed "Fine. You know what, Miles? I'm done. I'm really sick of dealing with you and this whole situation and this point, and, if you want to act like a petulant child, that's fine, but I don't feel like dealing with it. If this does come to a trial, I suggest you look for another defense attorney." Mia made her way over to the door and quietly left.
