((I am so sorry for appearing so late, but for the past week, the connection was terrible. Again, sorry if I delayed the game, though it seems it's getting a good story plot in my absence.))

Sophia stepped slowly into the mansion, seeing four people in the hall and six rooms. She then said to the group in the hall, "Sorry if I was delayed in my arrival. I'm Sophia Aquino, though I think you all know that already. I'll have to explain everything to Mr. Ingmune first though. Could you please inform me of his whereabouts?"

(( I got that the two ones beginning with L had to be Sophia and Elizabeth, and that it had something to do with a computer keyboard, but that was about it... I can't believe the solution was that simple!))

Intriguing... thought Arianna, as Mr. Ingmune walked off down the corridor. Maybe this is just an innocent puzzle game... Picking up her room key, she located the door and was just about to step in when she heard a woman's voice in the hallway. "Ms. Aquino?" she inquired. "Mr. Ingmune's just left- but we're all expected for dinner at 7.30, perhaps you could speak to him then?"
With that, she walked into her room and closed the door. I'll have to keep some kind of record of the competition. Arianna retrieved her sketchbook from her jacket and within an hour had not only a portrait of each guest and their host, but also several sketches of the rooms they'd seen so far. I may have to add to this after dinner...

((Gah, I had thought about a keyboard, but didn't check that! :P
Also, I assume it is alright if Nathan took a laptop with him.))

Nathan wrote down the distribution, after Jürgen announced it, and inmediately realized what it meant.

"Ah, I see now", he said, smiling. Well, that was simpler than what I thought. Could this entire business be just a friendly game like that? ... I doubt it, so better watch out. He then entered his room.

It was bigger than what he thought a guest room could ever be. Well, it was his first time in a Manor, but he didn't expect it to be that big. After checking every detail, he sat on his bed. Wow, this is extremely comfortable!, he thought, and lied on it. He admired the bed's comfort for some minutes, then stood up. He took out his clothes from his bag, and organized them in the room's closet. He noticed all his clothes occupied a third of the closet's capacity.

Once he did that, he sat on his bed, and took out his laptop from his bag. He turned it on, and opened up a word-processing application.

Day 0: Introduction - December 4th

I got to the Louvre Manor 5 minutes before the time. Four people were there already. They are Arianna Valentine, Elias Swift, a surgeon, Elizabeth Axiom, a defense attorney, and Jürgen Werfel.
Inmediately after I arrived, Mr. Ingmune welcomed us. He guided us throught some of the Manor's rooms, and was noticeably annoyed by the lack of a sixth competitor.
When we got to our rooms, our host presented us with the first riddle: We would discover what key belonged to each room.
After some minutes of following red herrings, Mr. Werfel came up with the solution, which, after all, was simpler than it looked.
Also, the sixth participant, Sophia Aquino, arrived just after Mr. Ingmune left.

Dinner will be at 7:30 PM. I wonder what Mr. Ingmune has planned for the next week... He seems like a very clever old man, that's for sure.

He saved the document, closed his laptop, and lied on his bed, thinking about the next 7 days. From the first puzzle, it seemed like a friendly competition... But he couldn't help but feel that would change a lot over time.

"Oh..." Elizabeth said. She was hoping for something more clever than that, like looking at the keyboard and moving one letter to the left or something. ((Haha!)) She shook her head and grabbed her key. "Well, looks like everyone's heading to their rooms." She grabbed Sophia's key and handed it to her as well. "I assume he wouldn't mind if you talked to him before or after dinner." She smiled. "Welcome to Louvre Manor, Ms. Aquino." With that, she walked to her room and sat on her bed, staring off into space.

"Bah. I suppose I'll go check out my room. See you all at dinner tonight."

Werfel grabbed his key and entered his room. It was quite fancy, as expected of Mr. Ingmune's stately home. He put his suitcase on the bed and withdrew a semi-automatic handgun from it.

You never know when this might be handy.

The minute hand reached it's max at twelve. The large organ clock sang through the mansion with a monstrous tone.

" *BONG* *BONG* *BON-* *BONG* *BONG* *BONG* *BONG*"

The clock regruted to silence through every speck of space in the mansion.

Elias got up off his bed and looked at the clock on his phone, "Is it almost time for dinner, I'm starving." He then finished putting his stuff away and stepped out into the hallway, waiting for someone just so he could chat.

Elizabeth jumped at the sound of the clock, and looked down at her watch. It's exactly 7:00. We still have a half-hour, but...Might as well go out into the hall anyway. That way, I'll have plenty of time to get lost.
When Elizabeth walked out of her room and into the hallway, she saw Elias.
"Oh, hello, there," Elizabeth said.

Elias looked up, "Hello there Ms Axiom. Nice to see you again. Want to go wander towards the dining room? I would prefer to get lost now rather then wander around and get lostat exactly 7:30."

Wow. It's like he read my mind.
"Yes, let's wander," Elizabeth said. Then, she decided to try to make conversation. "Okay, so it seems that none of us know Mr. Igmune personally, or didn't before we came here...So, why do you think he wanted us to do this competition? Wouldn't he have willed his 'millions' off to family and friends, rather than complete strangers?"

((I can't make very fast conversations with this timezone, so I'll try to make up for it. But, sorry again if I cause any delay, though this topic can go fine for a while without me anyway.))

Sophia was welcomed by the five other competitors and was handed a key by Elizabeth to her room. She looked at the lock and said to herself, "Though I have the key, I wouldn't mind practicing my lockpicking skills." Then she took a pin out of her wavy black hair and opened the lock in exactly 14 seconds. She opened the door to find a beautiful room. She took out her mother's special camera (which could print out pictures with a mini-printer though she also modified it), snapped a picture of the room, and stuck the printed picture on her journal which was also her mother's as well. Then, at the sound of the 7:00 bell, she pushed a button on her glasses and saw the time. "7:00 and six seconds," she then said, going back to the hall, locking the room. There she met Elizabeth and Elias. The former asked, "So, why do you think he wanted us to do this competition? Wouldn't he have willed his 'millions' off to family and friends, rather than complete strangers?" Sophia answered, "Mother said that he didn't have family, and only very few friends who were also as old or nearly as old as he. Mr. Ingmune also loves logic and mystery, she told me, so I doubt he would have any better options." Then, not knowing where the dining hall was located, Sophia asked them, "Would you mind telling me where the dining hall could be found?"

"Mr Ingmune is a curious man." Elias said, "Maybe he's a philanthropist. He thought we were doing work for the betterment of mankind, but wanted to see what we would do to fight for this money in order to see if we're worth it. It's just like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It wasn't making it to the end of the tour, it was showing that you were good enough that you wouldn't turn in his secrets even though he wouldn't let you get what he promised." He paused, "Of course he could just be off his effing rocker."

"The dining hall? We were actually going to wander around to see if we could find it. Care to join us?"

((Bah, stupid timezone... Everyone posts while I'm asleep XD))
The ominous striking of the clock jerked Arianna into consciousness. She hadn't realised she'd fallen asleep, or even that she'd been tired at all. Hearing voices from outside, which she identified as belonging to Elias, Sophia and Elizabeth, Arianna pulled herself upright and swinging her legs of the bed, moved out into the hall, closing and locking her door behind her. Elias seemed to be the one speaking, but in her half-asleep state, "It's just like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory..." was all she caught. I seem to remember bad things happening to the kids in the chocolate factory. Inflation, being crammed in a pipe, having their limbs stretched out of proportion.... She shook off these thoughts- doubtless she was just being a hopeless pessimist. "I hear you're heading to the dining room?" she inquired. "Might I join you?"

Nathan heard as the clock ticked seven times. He checked his wirstwatch. Exactly 7 PM. Half an hour left, he thought. I'll guess I'll be off here at 20-past, if I want to be there early. He then remembered Mr. Ingmune's words: "through the music hall, take the Ruby hall, and go left". He recalled the music hall and its size, and wondered how big the Manor actually was.

From outside his door, Nathan could hear voices. He identified them as Elias, Elizabeth, Sophia and Arianna. They were probably going to get to the Dining Hall early, so they wouldn't get lost. The thought of joining them crossed his mind, but he decided not to. Instead, he took out a piece of paper and a pen, and scribbled down a map of the Louvre Manor's rooms, or at least the ones he knew, and listing their names. Should be handy. But I'll probably memorize the Manor's rooms by a week's time. He then paused, and smiled. I wonder if this place is part of the "fortune" the winner will get...

Werfel heard the clock strike seven.

Now would probably be a good time to go check out the manor.

He left his room and encountered Elias, Elizabeth, and Sophia. "Oh? Were you all planning to go on a little stroll?"

"Why on earth would we object?" smiled Arianna. "It's not every day you get two hadsome gentlemen escorting you to dinner!" The route to the dining room didn't seem to be too complicated and she was beginning to realise that she was in fact very hungry. "I think that's all of us then- Nathan appears to have gone on ahead- so shall we be going?"

Two other conpetitors- Arianna and Werfel- joined the trio in the hallway. After a few words, Sophia said, "Yes, I think it's high time we should go out to find the dining hall." With that, the group started walking up the hallway. Sophia then took out her camera, pressed a button, and started making a layout of the first floor using a stylus. "So these are our rooms...and that's the music hall," she thought as they reached the hall.

The organ clock took a deep breath as it rang through the mansion once more in its quarterly time, 7:15, sounding like an operatic waltz.

*BONG* ... *Ting* *BONG* ...*Ting* *BON-* ...*Ting* *BONG* ...*Ting* *BONG* ...*Ting* *BONG* ...*Ting* *BONG*

Nathan heard the clock ringing again, and he noticed it once more time: The third time the clock rang, its sound seemed cut down. The first time, he thought it hadn't been anything, but once it happened again, he realized it wasn't an impression of him. He checked his watch once more. The clock rang every 15 minutes, apparently, since it was quarter-past now.

He lay there, not thinking about anything, and was bored. Might as well go now, he told himself. He stood up, opened his door, and locked it once he was outside. He started walking towards the Music Hall, when he noticed the other 5 participants were heading to the Dining Hall, too.

"Hey!", Nathan called out, and caught up with them. "Heading for dinner, too, huh?"

((@DeMatador: It's actually "lay", not "lied", just to correct you.))

The sound of the deep, loud bells chimed once more through the hall. Sophia noticed this time that there was a slight difference when the third sound rang. Then she turned around as Nathan hollered, going towards them. "Yes, we're all heading towards the dining hall." Then she spotted a sign similar to the ones on their doors. Engraved on it were the words, RUBY HALL. "Well, this is the Ruby Hall," she said, opening the door to a magnificent ballroom.

((I knew something was wrong, thank you! Editing it now.))

"Oh, then I assume there're no problems if I join." Nathan said, smiling. Then, he read the words engraved on the door. "RUBY HALL", it read. After Sophia opened the door, he stopped and took out his personal little map, and eye-measured the Ruby Hall, drawing its dimentions, as he had with the Music Hall.

"Well, according to Mr. Ingmune," he then said, "we should take a "quick left" after this." They kept walking through the Ruby Hall, admiring its beauty.

"Well then, let's get going!" Elias said as he offered one of his arms to the ladies. Finally they reached a place called the Ruby Hall. "So, if we take a left here, then we will reach the dining hall..." He looked around at his fellow members, "Well, since we're going to be talking at dinner, why don't we all get to actually know each other?"

Nathan checked the time. "We still have 10 minutes," he said, "so I guess that would be in alright. I would start, but I rather listen to some of you first." he turned at them, still smiling. He was interested in knowing them, but he wast most interested in knowing why they had taken Mr. Ingmune's challenge.

They all entered the wondrous Ruby Hall, and when Nathan offered for introductions, Sophia was eager to do so, saying, "Well, I'm Sophia Aquino, obviously. I was adopted by Angelina Aquino who was a friend of Mr. Ingmune. I followed in her footsteps and became a forensic scientist. I accepted this game for the fun and challenge, actually." Then, glancing at her screen in her glasses, she said, "I wouldn't want to be late again, so I'm heading in even if we still have ten minutes before we are expected." Then, parting with the group, she headed to the left corridor and entered the dining hall. When she saw it, she took a step back in awe. It was decorated with rich red velvet and light peach, with golden candleholders and a crystal chandelier. Furthermore, the utensils were pure silver and the china plates were intricately designed at the sides. Its splendour was like nothing that she had ever even imagined. She then sat down on a chair with red velvet cushioning and snapped a photo.

((Is this alright if I stress the grandeur of the dining hall? I can change it if it's too much.))

Accepting Elias' arm, Arianna followed the rest of the group into the Ruby Hall and was amazed by its sheer size and opulence. Listening to Sophia's introduction, something struck her. "I think our mothers also knew each other, Sophia." she said. "My mother Nell often used to talk about an Angelina Aquino, whom she went on a scientific expedition with. But forgive me if I'm wrong...." She scanned the hall over again and added a quick drawing of the room to the growing collection in her sketchbook.
"While we're still on the topic of introductions, I'm, as no doubt you've all picked up, Arianna Valentine. I'm a mixed media artist- I was recently featured in Art In America- and I live just outside of San Diego. I have two daughters, Grace and Chiara and one of my primary motivations in accepting the invitation was, I'm ashamed to admit, the money. The other? Curiosity, I suppose, although puzzles and logic games have always appealed to me as well. Who wants to go next?"

Werfel walked about the Ruby Hall and it's magnificence, observing.

"Well, I think I'm a fair bit older than the lot of you. And as for my relation to Mr. Ingmune... I have absolutely no clue. I was raised as an orphan, and I'm reasonably sure my parents are dead. The name "Howl" does ring a bell somewhere in my head though...

And as my for my profession, I used to be a Navy Admiral. I've got enough money in my retirement account to get by, but Mr. Ingmune's fortune sounds promising too!

So how did you two fine gentlemen come about this place?"

"Elias Swift, surgeon." He said, once again introducing himself, "No relation to Howl, nor knowledge. Not a clue as to how I know him. Maybe I operated on him in the past? Of course why he was in the seedier parts of LA I have no clue..."

"My turn, I guess." Nathan said, after Elias finished. "Well, as you know, my name is Nathan Dawns. I'm 36 years old, and I currently teach Mathematics for a living, and also teach English and Spanish by request. As to my relation to Mr. Ingmune... I have no idea where he knows me from, but I do know why I took his challenge." He sighed. "My brother, Stephen, is in a very complicated economical situation, and, since my parents are not there for us, I take care of him. If I win Ingmune's money, I would take Steve out of that situation, once and for all." He paused, then smiled. "Also, I wouldn't have to work for the rest of my life."

Once he finished, Nathan turned to Elizabeth. "Seems you're the only one left, Mrs. Axiom."

"Yes, so it would seem," Elizabeth said. "Well, I am Elizabeth Axiom, as you all know. I'm a defense attorney. I know Howl because of my mother. I took this challenge because she told me I should, and she died the next day because of cancer." She smiled wistfully. "I consider it her dying wish." She looked around, catching everyone's eyes. "Well, good luck, all of you." She smiled and walked into the elaborate dining hall.

Nathan heard Elizabeth's story, and suddenly felt bad. Not only himself, but at least half of them were doing it for the money, while she was following her dying mother's last wish. But there was no way around it: Only one of them would win, after all. And she, as all of them, had the same chances of winning.
Finally, they got to the Dining Hall's door, and Elizabeth opened it.

I wonder if once inside Mr. Ingmune will tell us why he chose us..., he told himself.

((Assuming, in logic, 'they' meant 'everyone', and that everyone would be taking seats.))

Howl heard the silent murmur of two become a crowd of six. He grinned. Heh... Heh Heh... let the games begin. He opened the kitchen door, and walked into the dining hall with a gallant smile. "Sit down everyone, sit down. Dinner is almost ready, and I'm sure everyone is famished. I, too, am quite starved, but trust me, Jauntopiere makes the most un' zeistyis meal. Ah, and Elizabeth, I have recieved a letter, with its destination for you." He scrummaged out a jade-enveloped letter from his tux pocket, and handed it to her. He checked his watch once more. "Ah, everything should be ready. I will let the chef know everyone is accounted for. Be back in a minute!" Howl went through the kitchen door, and as it closed, so did the door entering into the Ruby hall.

As everyone sat down and Mr. Ingmune went inside the kitchen, Werfel said, "I'll bet we're trapped in here now." Sophia, almost never worried, told them, "If there's a way in, there's a way out, and there's no need to panic. It's not as if Mr. Ingmune would trap us here and torture us like a madman." Then as she opened her bag, she remembered her mother's letter, but she said to herself, "It's improper to just go into a kitchen without the invitation of the cook or anyone else. I'll just have to wait for Mr. Ingmune to come out again, I suppose." Then she asked the group, "I'm a little curious; why did all of you accept the challenge?"
I've been away for far too long.
So long, in fact, that all of my signatures now exist behind a paywall.
Bummer.

Arianna felt a sudden irrational burst of panic as the doors closed. "Where there's a way in, there's a way out..." said calm Sophia, but all the doubts Arianna had had earlier came rushing back intensified. Thirty years of helping her partially blind mother had taught her to take in and process minute details and as she looked around the room, she could see no exits apart from the one that had just closed. On the other hand, there didn't appear to be any dangers in the room either. Except for each other...

"A letter? For me?" Elizabeth asked. She opened it up and read it over carefully. "Okay. Good. I wouldn't expect anything less." She put the letter into her jacket pocket. Too bad I suck at riddles... "Hey, everyone, I have a riddle for you: there are 64 places for me and my brother to travel. But alone, we are not allowed into the same locations. My brother travels on ice while I travel on tar. Most commonly, our travels are considered a segregation act. The only exception is when I take the place of a beggar. Who am I?" Elizabeth looked at everyone. "The reason I tell you this riddle at a time like this is because I believe the answer is the ticket out of here."

Nathan heard the Hall's door closing, and wondered if this was part of Mr. Ingmune's game. We'll find out soon, he thought.

Then, Elizabeth read the letter aloud. "The reason I tell you this riddle at a time like this is because I believe the answer is the ticket out of here." she said. I knew it.

"Well..." Nathan said, thinking, after having taken a seat, "first we should think what this "brother and sister" could be, if they can travel to 64 places, but never both in the same place. Also, that "he travles on ice while I travel on tar" doesn't ring any bells to me..." He hoped the entire competition wouldn't be just brain-teasing riddles, but thought about the couldn't riddle regardlessly.

"They're not a brother and sister, they're brother-brother," Elizabeth corrected. "The riddle was in my letter, which was written by a man. Hm...I wonder if "he travels on ice while I travel on tar" is a metaphor...It might be the key to solving this whole riddle." Just like in court. There is one thing that is the key to solving the whole case. If we can find out what this one line means, the rest of the riddle should fall into place.

The large organ clack rang in half-time, 7:30, sounding in harmonic triplets.

*Ching**Ting**BONG**Ching**Ting**BONG**Ching**Ting**BON-**Ching**Ting**BONG**Ching**Ting**BONG**Ching**Ting**BONG**Ching**Ting**BONG*

A loud, creaking sound blared throughout the room as the chairs on the outside walls of the dining room crept about 3 inches closer towards the inner table. The chandelier shook, and the china cabinet fell with a pool of glass shooting on the ground. The whole instance lasted only a few seconds, and the room fell silent once again, with the walls slowly stalking their prey; the 6 contestants at the table.

((Any lock-picking, breaking, burning, or any extential harm to the doors, in this instance, will not open/unlock them.))

"Oh, then brother and bro-" Nathan was suddenly startled by a very loud sound. It was the clock, which rang 7 times. It was 7:30 PM. He calmed down, but inmediately an even louder creaking sound made him jump. He heard the chairs sliding noisefully towards them, and heard the noise of breaking china. He noticed, horrorified, what was happened.

"Sh- The walls!", he shouted, not measuring his reaction. "They're closing upon us!" Nathan suddenly realized, this competition was far from what he first imagined. Their lives were in stake here, and they would lose them if they didn't answer the riddle.
