"Well, tell the woman thank you." Miles nudged Nick with his elbow.
"What?! You don't get to tell me how to be polite!" Nick snapped. "Let's just...let's just go, okay?" He grumbled and walked out the door. "Should we take a taxi there?" Nick asked once they were outside. "Or take one to your car and drive there?" Nick quickly stabilized Miles before he fell onto some shrubbery lining the pavement.

Mia looked slightly embarrassed. "My car's still sitting over in the parking by that restaruant we were going to eat lunch at, Phoenix. I haven't swung by to pick it up since miles and i came back to you apartment."

"Well that's sort of why I asked if you wanted to go get it." Nick replied.
"The sunset certainly is nice today." Miles observed. Nick almost slapped himself in the face.
"This is not going to go well at all, is it?" He asked no one in particular and expected no answer.

Mia sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "Probably not. Let's get a taxi and grab my car. It'll be less embarrassing that way....I think."

"Right." Nick made the call.
"You know what would be lovely, Ms. Fey? One of those coconuts with the milk still inside and they give you a straw and you just drink from it. Then maybe some nice fresh cut pineapple." Miles was starting to sound like his father.

"I wonder how the old man is." Miles fumbled through his pockets. "I should call him." He took out his phone but ended up dropping it instead of opening it. Nick quickly snatched it up.
"No phone calls." He said a bit snippishly before putting it into his coat pocket. "Yes, that's right." He told the man on the phone with him." He snapped his shut and put in the same pocket as Miles'.
"But I want to talk to him." Miles replied.
"Thats why you're not calling him. Besides, he's probably busy." Nick answered.

Mia kept a firm grip on Miles' forearm to steady him. "I don't think Mr. Edgeworth would appreciate you drunk calling him, Miles.

"It's not drunk calling." Miles argued in a rather pathetic tone. "I just want to know how he's doing."
"He's fine. I just talked to him a few minutes ago." Nick pushed him towards the cab when it pulled up.
"He's supposed to send me a coconut bra you know." Miles replied.
"Well I didn't..." Nick sighed.

"I'm supposed to drink from it." Miles told her while he was being stuffed into the cab. Nick ran around to the other side and got in. "I don't even get to sit by a window?" Miles asked.
"Not when you might decide to just start walking for no reason and open the door."
"But what if I get carsick and I need to throw up?" Miles pointed out. Nick glared at him a moment.
"Damnit." He got out and walked to the opposite side to get in.

Mia sighed and her tone carried a hint of sarcasm. "Well, this is getting off to a great start, isn't it?" She nudged Miles with her shoulder to get him to move to the other side of the car to make room for Phoenix.

Nick could swear he heard Miles chuckling as he got in. His annoyance at all of this was starting to get the better of him so he decided to stare out of the window in much the same way Miles often did. With a blank stare and a tight lip.
"You know what's good? Those little fruity cup things from japan. Oh what were they called. They weren't jellies exactly, but they were too thick and gummie to be jello. Plus they had little bits of fruit in them."

Mia stared at Miles oddly. His drunken behavior wasn't exactly what she'd expected, but this was Miles, and he didn't exactly fit the definition of normal. Leaning back in the seat, she decided it'd be better to just let him ramble uninterrupted now so he hopefully wouldn't be a pain later when she was driving.

Miles continued on about random unrelated things all the way to the diner. Nick quickly got out and paid the driver before pretty much yanking Miles out of the car by his cravat. He stood Miles up, dusted him off, and walked towards the parking lot with hopes that Miles could carry himself there. His hopes were not rewarded when he heard Miles bang his knee against the bumper of the taxi and curse like a sailor. Luckily the cursing was in Italian instead of English. Nick sighed, turned around, and helped his slightly hoping friend to Mia's car.

Mia followed the two over to her car and unlocked it. Before she got into the driver's side she turned to Phoenix. "You'd better ride up front or you might be inclined to start strangling Miles. As much as I like you, Phoenix, I don't feel up to defending you in a murder trial again."

Mia let out a small sigh of relief once they arrived at Miles' apartment building. The drive over had been a tense one, as Miles continued to inanely ramble and Mia had to keep a close eye on Phoenix who appeared to be controlling his irritation with some difficulty.

Miles' apartment was located in a cluster of very nice large buildings with a gate surrounding them. To drive through the gate Miles had to lean over and tell the man working it who he was and show him an ID. Nick was starting to wonder just how Miles felt safer at his place than the Fort Knox of posh apartments. Nick gave Mia brief directions on which building had Miles' place in it while Miles himself was trying to remember the name of an actor in a movie that he'd seen when he was six in a country that sounded like Miles had just made up a random name. When they stopped Nick got out without a word and walked into the building.

Mia watched Phoenix walk off with some irritation before going to help Miles stagger out of her car. She quickly locked her car before grabbing Miles' forearm, so he wouldn't wander off somewhere, and following after Phoenix.

Miles showed some hesitation in wanting to enter his home, but he didn't fight the pulling that brought him inside. Miles' taste for black gold and maroon was shown on pretty much every bit of furbished furniture he owned except for the ones that were made of solid wood or covered in black leather. On his crisp white walls hung various kinds of paintings and a few clocks and each room had at least three different sorts of plants hanging or sitting in it. His living room was especially nice and it was the one that Nick realized he'd been followed in.
"I thought you were going to wait in the car." He asked the two when he turned around. Miles hadn't said a word since they walked in.

Mia gave Phoenix a look that suggested if he brought that up again, she'd hit him. She turned and closed the door behind her. Her voice was sharp and buisnesslike. "So let's grab what we came for and get going."

Nick shrugged, walked down a hall, and cut into an office. It looked to be the most used room in the entire place.
"Keys." Nick said briefly to Miles who took a moment to process if that were a statement or request. He dipped into his pocket, took them out, and tossed them to Nick who used one to unlock a drawer in his desk. "No car title." Nick said after some sifting. "But this is interesting." He held up a postcard of a naked Hawaiian girl holding a pineapple in front of her lower privates. "There's an address on the back." He handed it to Mia and closed the drawer. "If there's anything you want to fetch Miles might as well do it now." Nick told him as he locked it back. Miles said nothing, but he maintained the expression he'd entered the house with. Which was an awful like like a child who had a blanket over his nose while his father was opening the closet full of monsters.

Mia looked at Miles and sighed. "Well, we should probably grab some of his clothes and some other necessities before we leave..." Mia pulled Phoenix aside briefly and asked quietly, "Do you have any idea what's bothering Miles so much? He looks like something's going to jump out and strangle him with piano wire."

"Maybe he thinks they will, I don't know." Nick shrugged. "I'll go fetch some clothes. If you don't mind going through his documents and stuff. I don't really know what'd be important and what wouldn't be." He looked over at Miles with a hint of disdain. "Maybe Miles will be of some help. God you'd think he was high instead of drunk." Nick rolled his eyes. Then a little bulb came on. "Wait...he is really articulate for drunk, isn't he? I mean, you'd think he'd burst into song or act a little more...well drunkish...but all he's been doing is stumbling around and talking a lot. Except for now anyway."

Mia nodded slowly, not sure exactly where his train of thought was leading him. "Yeah, he is a very articulate drunk, the only difference seems to be in co-ordination and his level of emotional openness and talkativeness."

"That's just it. I've been around Miles drunk. He's not talkative at all. I mean, he gets a little more willing to do stupid silly things like wearing Gumshoe's tie on his head and singing karaoke, but thats only after a lot of poking and prodding. At first I thought maybe he just got like this after any normal person would pass out, but I'm not so sure anymore. I mean, think about it. Some girl's getting mistreated at a bar, Miles picks a fight with them, those guys beat him up and where does he end up? A hospital or jail. Either of which would see him acting like this and get suspicious, maybe do a urine or blood test." Nick rubbed his head. "I know it sounds far fetched, but then everything connected to this case is so utterly bizarre."

Mia put a hand on his shoulder. "Tell me about it. This whole case made very little sense at the beginning, then Monty Beluciano got thrown into the mix..." Mia sighed, "Maybe we should get moving. Given Miles' reaction to his own apartment, we might want to get him back where he feels safe before he does anything...stupid."

"I think we've gone beyond that point, don't you?" Nick sighed. "Right, I'll go get some of his clothes and things then. You want me to get you some tea too, Miles." Nick turned to where his friend should be, but he wasn't. "He must've wandered off while we were talking. I'll see if I can find him." Nick went into the hall and turned a corner.

Mia waked back over to mile's scrupulously neat desk. She opened the lower drawer and began leafing through the files there, looking for anything that might possibly pertain the case at hand. Most of the files dealt with personal expenses and the like, nothing that seemed to stick out.

As Mia went through his papers Nick wandered about Miles' apartment. The place had two bathrooms in it. Two. "Why on earth would a single man living by himself need two bathrooms?" Nick wondered as he eventually ventured into the kitchen. He found Miles there going through his bags of tea.
"There you are." Nick huffed a sigh and leaned against the kitchen doorway. "What are you doing?"
"I wanted to get some tea, but there are these bags that don't belong in here and I'm trying to figure out where they go." Miles pointed at two on the table. Nick walked over and picked one up.
"This doesn't really look like tea, Miles." He opened one and smelled it. "Ugh, doesn't really smell like it either." Nick read the label and his eyes got wide.

Meanwhile Mia opened one of Miles' briefcases to find that instead of documents inside there were carefully labeled bottles and a needle with several pins.

Mia quickly snapped the briefcase shut and made her way back into the main part of the apartment with it in hand. She walked into the kitchen and held up the suitcase. "Miles, what the hell is up with this?!"

"It looks like a briefcase." Miles looked over at her for only a moment before going back to straightening his teas. "Someone got these all out of order..." He grumbled.
"Mia, something's up." Nick held out the bag labeled Crimea Blue.

Mia shoved down her anger and dismay, forcing her tone to become level. " I know something's up, Phoenix. Just take a look at this." She set the briefcase down on the counter and opened it. "I found this in your office, Miles. Do you mind telling us what this is doing here?"

"And another one that doesn't belong in here." Miles said to himself and set a third bag onto the table.
"Miles!" Nick yanked him from the cabinet and turned him around to face the briefcase. "What is this?"
"My briefcases have maroon lining. That's more of a cerise." Miles informed them and turned back to his organizing.
"Someone must be trying to set Miles up." Nick concluded and grabbed the bags on the table. "We have to get rid of this stuff." He said hastily.

Mia sighed and closed her eyes. "How do you propose we get rid of all this this? It's not like we can just dump it in the trash. And if he's being set up then who in the world would..." Mia's eyes snapped open. "Wait a minute, I can think of someone with a very good reason to add this stuff to Miles' apartment."

Mia started pacing in the kitchen area not occupied by Miles and Phoenix. "Last night on the phone, Mr. Edgeworth told me that Melissa Parks is Monty Beluciano's daughter. The reason he offered to 'help' is because he didn't want to see Miles go to jail and break his darling little psychotics heart. He'd most likely plant something if it added validity to Melissa's story. That may explain why this stuff is here."

"If that's true then we're in real danger!" Nick realized. He realized something else too. "What if the reason Mr. Edgeworth was so straight forward was because that Beluciano guy was with him?! We've got to do something! We've got to go get help!" Nick dropped the bags and whipped out his phone, but in his anxiousness he dropped it. At the exact moment he bent down to pick it up something whizzed past his back and left a small hole in the wall behind him. In the doorway of the kitchen stood a very cross looking woman. She looked similar to Melissa except she was much older and she had her father's sharp blue eyes.

Mia stopped pacing close enough to Phoenix and Miles to be able to do something if things got bad. As Mia took stock of the situation, she felt a hole in the pit of her stomach. If things got ugly it was her, Phoenix, who had a head injury, and Miles, who was still inebriated against a woman who probably had a weapon somewhere on her body. Seeing very few alternatives, Mia spoke, making sure to keep her tone even and concise. "Who are you and what are you doing here?"
