There will be some spoilers in this thread, although we should try avoid spoilers if we can or spoiler tag them. The RP takes place after the series ends, so an obvious spoiler is who wins in the end, so stop reading now if you don't know who wins & don't want that spoiled
Spoiler:
The premise (correct me if this contridicts with something, as I've only seen the anime and I think the manga is supposed to explain things more) is that some time/years after the end of the series. Most people are against Kira now, looking down on it like we look down on events like the Holocaust, but there are some who support Kira. All it would take is a Shinigami giving a notebook to the right person and it could all happen again. Most if not all of the surviving main characters (other than the Shinigami I guess) are dead/retired or something.
Rules:
-The rules for this board
-Use double parenthesis or something when you are talking out of character.
-Try to avoid copying the show/manga too much, we want to be original after all. Some things being parallels to the series for symbolism or something is ok, but don't just copy the show for no reason please, that's no fun
-Try not to involve the actual characters from Death Note, although a little bit might be all right.
-Follow the Death Note's rules when using it to kill someone, I'd suggest trying to avoid using the rules that are shown before/after commercial breaks or whatever, as those are less memorable, if it's a more obscure rule like that, please post what the rule says out of charecter.
-Please don't make up cop-outs if cornered or something, I don't want to hear "oh no that was actually a death row inmate not me" unless you were actually planning it, you might not be caught so easy if you do this, but please follow this rule. EDIT: Actually, you can do things your character would have planned before you did, just don't ruin everybody's fun with excuses or something.
-
-You can have multiple characters & ones on different sides, just try to actually be in-charecter and not have a kira charecter absolutly pwn the Task Force because you have a Task Force character and know all their plans for example.
-Your characters can spy on the other side.
-Your character can have aliases.
-You can kill other charecters, although please don't do this without putting thought into it, we don't want everyones charecters dyeing like crazy unless it's at a point like at the end of the series or something. If you are going to use a Death Note to kill, please follow the rules for killing with it, your charecter must know the name & face of the charecter they are going to kill. You may kill other people's charecters but it's more tollerable to kill another one of your charecters because then you suffer the consequence of a lost charecter and not someone else. With NPC's however, go nuts, except try to follow the rules of the Death Note if you are using one to kill them.
-If you are going to sign-up, please use the character palate.

'Death note?

He got out his dictionary and looked up 'Death' He looked in confusion, flicking through the pages, blank, nothing.
'Whoever's name is written in this notbook shall die?'

In Mero's years of being a detective, there was one case that intrigued him. The problem was that little about the case was disclosed to the public. Strange that such a horrible disaster be hidden like that. He wanted to learn about this case, how someone could kill with just a name and a face (in some cases, only a face was required, at least, that's what he gathered by looking through victim lists and researching them.
If only he knew what was about to happen.. if only he knew just how important his research was.

Mishimi stared at the notebook, trying to catch his breath, 'Is... is this how Kira..' He flicked throught the death note, there were no other names written in it...
'There was more that one*Details of the death should be written ...' He thought, 'I didn't support Kira, but maybe I could...' He turned on the news channel of his computer, as he loaded, he flicked through the rules.
in 1 minute and 40 seconds.
'Theres a lot of stuff about Shinigamis and gods of death here.' He said, looking around him. 'I have to write more names...' He got the computer on news and wrote the first criminals he saw.

Mero was a detective, as such, he couldn't just research Kira, he had access to current files. He decided to skim through some recent deaths, like he had a habit of doing.
"Today's deaths" he said, about to read the file.
"? These....all the deaths today are around the same time and they're heart attacks...."
"....And..and the only people who died today were criminals..."
This couldn't be what he was thinking could it? No that was crazy, Kira was gone wasn't he?
He kept thinking it was crazy, but nevertheless, he kept that file.
He just had to check something else....he checked how they were broadcast..... and sure enough....
Every one of them had had their name and face broadcast, not just that, but they were available to the public.. this seemed too familiar and yet crazy, this was how the 1st Kira started his crimes.
Was this actually really possible though? Could someone really do all this? He had looked at the reports, but it was different now, this was all real, before it was just memories, records and things from the past, now, it was actually happening.

((We don't neccesarilly need an L, and if he did he'd have to be uber smart and be way better than the other task members. I could make an L if you want. Although I don't know if I want 2 characters from the same side at the same time.
Also, a shinigami would be cool.

Mishimi woke up, early as always. It wasn't school anymore, he remembered that.
'Maybe I shouldn't write as many names in at summer... They'll know I'm a student.' He wrote down on some paper 'Stop writing names 8:30 to 3:00.' He smiled and said to himself confidantly 'They'll blame someone that has work inbetween that time, it'll make it look like a careless user.' He snickered and thought to himself 'The rules said that if I didn't want the book I gave it to the shinigami... I haven't seen one yet.' He spread out on the bed and fell asleep again.

This mysterious detective appeared after Near's retirement, taking a few low-profile cases around the world and becoming semi-famous. He idolizes the late L and aspires to take his place as the best detective in the world. He is usually calm and rational, but gets overzealous at times and can be hostile when things don't go his way. Nothing much else is known about him.

Good, if we pick an obscure, hard to find place, Kira is less likly to find out. Wait, I know a place. There's this old building that was the site of some murder/suicide cult incident I handled a while back. People often don't like using buildings with creepy histories like that. It should still be there. Should be good as a temporarry base as long as Kira doesn't use it as a HQ & as long as no one leaks.
As for people, we can always recruit more later, but I've heard of this guy named Shintei. It might be hard to get him, but I think he'd be interested in this case.
As for me, I think my Kira knowledge will come in handy. Other than the ones who worked on the case or Kira himself, I figure I know more about Kira than anyone else.
((An L would be good if you can post a lot (L can't just vanish for a while for no reason), as long as you don't hog the spotlight too much and we get in some detective work too))

We can begin the meetings in a couple days. We will meet every 4 days at 11:43. Meetings will typically be a couple or a few hours, we'll see how much time we need. Meetings will end at X:37, we will not leave as a group. We will bring very little with us to the meetings, however we will bring things that could be used to contact us such as cell phones. Do not tell anyone you know anything other than that you are working on a tough, confidential case. These rules are subject to change.

"Hm...Japan, eh?" He read down the request, his jaw on the floor and his eyes as big as plates by the time he had finished. "M-my God...A new Kira? Th-th-this is incredible! The case I've been waiting for."
He shot back a reply saying he would take a plane to Japan and take up operations in a hotel room. He would send Dekuran a laptop through which he would comunicate.

Mero probably included them before or put them here or something)), then you may have your laptop thing."

Shintei sent the reply and turned around in his chair to focus his gaze back on the television.
"After 2004, the mantle of L was taken by Light Yagami, son of Souichiro Yagami, who was the current head of the Task Force. It was later found that Yagami had killed the previous L, L Lawliet."
Shintei ran a hand through his dark hair and stared at the picture of L on the television. "I'll continue your legacy, L. And I'll start by finding out who this Kira is and arresting him!"
