Prologue:
Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you…. happy birthday dear Christopher….
Happy birthday to you….
Hip hip hurray!
Hip hip hurray!
As cheers were made, Christopher laughed.
“Hahahaha….. I really am 18 now, right? A pretty important part in my life I guess. I get to be an adult.”
The blond haired teenager looked across the slightly dark room towards the tip of the cigar of his father. It was glowing orange when he took a sip and lighted up parts of his face. As he blew out the smoke, he said:
“Congratulations son. I see you know all too well just how important this age is. Perhaps you will finally be able to stand in the world, without needing my help again. Although I am going to miss those little father-son things, I am very glad to celebrate this.
But anyway son, I’m quite sure you’re tired of waiting.”
“You bet, pop! I want to see what kind of presents you guys have for me!”
From Christopher’s right, a happy face surrounded by long black hair appeared.
“You were always one for presents, brother. I hope you like mine.”
Christopher’s sister smiled as she handed a black leather box over to him and he slowly opened it.
A shiny handgun was inside with words inscribed on it: ‘From sis with love’.
“Guess I’ll be shooting with love then, like always.” said Christopher. “Thanks sis.”
“Hope these shooting lessons dad gave you will come in handy.” she said, whilst smiling.
“Heh. So what do you have, Yussouf?” asked Christopher.
At Christopher’s left side sat a Moroccan man, probably in his thirties. He had his slightly long black hair tied into a knot and sported a small beard.
“Hah, Chrisopher, you’ll love this, man.”
He handed over a small box towards him. Within the box, Christopher found a solid gold ring.
“One ring to rule them all huh?” said Christopher.
Yussouf laughed out loud. Christopher then said: “Although I’m not much of a jewellery fetishist, I do think this’ll look nice on me.”
He tried it on and saw how the ring reflected the light of the lamp above the table.
“Quite nice…”
After a little break, the half bald and kinda fat father said:
“Thank you, Charlotte and thank you, Yussouf for your great gifts. I’m pretty sure you are wondering what I am going to give you as well, son.”
Before Christopher could reply, his dad continued: “I can assure you that the thing I’m going to give you is of utmost importance for you and will possibly decide the rest of your life.
That is…. If you can obtain it.”
“What is it?” asked Christopher, logically.
“Heh. You forgot about it already? Son, you know I am known as ‘the one that rules Amsterdam’. I am Derek, the composer and I’ve been ruling the city from the shadows for far too long. When you were just young and we moved from Londen, driven away by the rivalling families there, I took my rightful place here in the tolerant city of Amsterdam.
We knew this was a good place to start again and within a few months, we had driven out the other gangs and I took the composer’s throne.
However, I am growing old and unfit for my position, so I am hereby willing to give the throne to you.”
“Really?” shouted Christopher.
“Yes, I believe that your time has come to rule Amsterdam.
However, I am not giving it to you yet. I want you to go and prove yourself. I want to make sure you are able to do what I do.”
“A challenge huh?”
“Indeed.” Derek took a sip from the cigar and breathed out the smoke. He then continued: “My challenge is simple: If you can take my throne by force, you will be the composer.”
“What if I fail?”
“Heheheh. Let’s not talk about that. I can assure you though that it won’t be nice.”
“Whatever, pops. I’ll be back in a while, gotta go and sit on your throne.”
“Hah, if it was that easy, he wouldn’t have mentioned it, man.” Said Yussouf.
“You are correct.” replied Derek. “To show that you are able to lead a gang, you’ll need 6 people with you to break the seal that I made in front of my throne. Not anyone will do, however. You’ll need people with enough potential to break it.”
“Great…. How am I supposed to find those?”
“That is up to you.” Said Derek. “But from now on you are the Conductor of Amsterdam. You have twenty one days exactly to complete your sole task. There’s a timer on your hand.”
“What?! I have a time limit? This is crazy….” Shouted Christopher while looking at the bloody red digital timer on the palm of his hand.
“The game has started, son. And you’re in it. Yussouf here will be the producer. He has always served me well as my right hand and I’m sure he’ll do fine. Now, get going!”
As he spoke that sentence, the composer walked away from the table. Leaving only a cloud of smoke and a confused son behind.
“Great…. Now how the heck are we supposed to figure out which people have potential?”
Yussouf then turned to him and said: “If I might… I suggest that you make a contest of sort to see who of the common people is able enough.”
“Just like the Jakuza did in japan huh?” Christopher replied. “They did some crazy stuff out there… are you saying we should part the twenty one days up in three separate weeks with game masters like they did?”
“Pretty much. It’s not like they would have had any experience there, man. Think about it: you can pick anyone as a game master and they will go and filter out everyone they think is not fit. In the end, you’ll have your six people with potential, and you don’t even have to do anything. I’ll be around to watch if anyone, reaper or player, breaks any rules and you can go and have fun.”
“Hmm…. It’s interesting alright.” said Christopher.
His sister Charlotte then said: “I think it’s a great idea! Well, you two have fun with it… I’m off to go and take my daily dose.”
After a minute of thought, Christopher said: “Alright, let’s do this.” He grabbed his new gun and loaded it with the rounds that lay next to it in the box. “I’ll be off to …. heheh…. 'have fun’. You go and find our first game master.”
“Good luck, Conductor.” said Yussouf.
And so our story begins. No doubt you have many questions. Maybe you can get answers to them. For that however, just reading the story won’t be enough.
Rules:
Be sure to follow the common rules of the RP board, other than that:
1: No g-modding/one shotting/power playing or whatever you guys call it. Just play normally.
2: No spamming, no flaming or other forum crimes, although that should be pretty obvious.
3: Try to do your best at your grammar, spelling and interpunction.
4: The 4th wall is pretty sturdy.
5: This takes place in Amsterdam and nowhere else.
6: Each member is allowed one player and one reaper. No more. The game master is a reaper, logically.
7: Although I don’t allow god modding, I do think that controlling the NPC’s a little bit in a logical way isn’t bad. Like a wall reaper opening a wall after you gave the correct answers to the quiz. I will step in when I think it’s too bad though.
8: Same goes for breaking the fourth wall. Remember how Joshua told you these lovely things?
9: My time zones are quite in conflict with most of the members here. Please be patient when I’m not there.
10: There are a certain amount of positions available. Once the positions get filled, you’ll have to wait until the next week, or until somebody drops out, to join again.
11: All the rules of the original game apply in this RP as well. That means you have to team up with another player and only one of the teams needs to complete the objective set out by the game master, etc.
12: A little note: I Made this RP on NS2. If you think there is anything you don't understand because it probably is their culture, do tell me.
Break the law and you’ll deal with me. It won’t be very nice. :3
Map of Amsterdam centre:
http://www.jordaanweb.nl/startamsterdam ... terdam.jpgFamous Areas:
To make things a little easier, we’ll limit ourselves to a couple famous areas in the centre of Amsterdam. Hopefully, each one of those can be found on the map as well. These areas are the following:
Kalverstraat (Calf Street):
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... tnoord.JPGThe Kalverstraat is a very long street with many shops. It is therefore known as a good shopping area in Amsterdam. Watch your wallet!
Paleis op het dam (Dam Plaza):
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... 11.32_.JPGA building of great historical value. The royal palace was once used by Napoleon himself and at the time considered to be a candidate for the ‘wonders of the world’. It now serves as a museum. The area in front of the palace serves as a big empty plaza, often filled with street entertainers.
De wallen (Red light district):
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bestand:Re ... rlands.jpgDe wallen is a pretty well known area of Amsterdam around the world, famous for it’s hookers, many sex related shops and ways to fuel common or uncommon fetishes.
Be careful here. It’s a little risky to put this in, but seeing as it is a famous area, I can’t let it out. Just don’t do anything to break the rules…
Keizersgracht (Emperor’s canal.):
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... gracht.jpgDe Keizersgracht is one of the three famous canals in the centre of Amsterdam. Many well known painters used to live near there, including Vincent van Gogh, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jeroen Bosch and Johannes Vermeer.
Anne Frank huis (House of Anne Frank):
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... rlands.jpgAnna Frank was a famous jew, known for her Dairy around the world, which she kept while she was hiding from the Germans who took over Holland during the second world war. Her family lived in a hidden room behind the bookshelf.
Oude Kerk (Old Church):
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... Okerk2.jpgQuite possibly the oldest building of the whole city. Originally devoted to Saint Nicholas, who has his own holiday in Holland comparable to the American way of celebrating Christmas. Santa Claus was originally derived from Saint Nicholas.
Centraal Station (Central Station)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... traal3.jpgThe gateway of public travel of Amsterdam. The central station has always been a hectic place and no doubt will it remain like this forever.
More areas will be available in the next weeks.
