Disclaimer: I do NOT own the idea of the Fae and Vampire Courts. Those belong to the lovely and talented Jim Butcher and his Dresden Files novels.

~Story~

A long time ago, a shepherd was given charge of a spring that lay hidden in the Highlands in reward for saving one of the God's children. In this spring, even in the middle of winter, the area remained green and fertile. Any creature that entered would be given sanctuary, one was not allowed to harm one another there. And the cause of it was flowed purely through the spring. The liquid of the Gods, Ambrosia.

Ambrosia was special and rare. It was rumored to heal any injury or illness, turn old men to young, bring the dead back to life, change humans into demons and vice versa, and many more miracles.

The shepherd was told to guard over the spring. He was allowed to use it as he wished as long as he did not say the location. However, temptation proved too great. He told only a few, he thought it couldn't have hurt. However, in time swindlers came to try and abuse Ambrosia's power and following that desperate men, and then after that demons, then Elves and vampires and even the Fae. The landside of the Highlands was torn asunder in a great war and in the end none of what was so strived for, the Ambrosia, remained.

None except was the shepherd managed to steal away in a silver chalice. The shepherd, shamed in his actions, made a choice. He would hide what remained instead, maybe one day the Gods would make a decision to use it properly. He couldn't get rid of the rest, it would be a waste of power.

And so, the years faded by. The land's scars healed, demons faded to where they belonged as did the vampires of the three courts and the Fae of the Summer and Winter courts while humans remained on the land of Illyria as they always had. But the elves faded disappeared into their forests after the war and were never seen again.

As for the Chalice? It faded away into legends. A fairy tale to please the children at best, if it hasn't been forgotten.

Until now, now that fate is playing her hand again.

The vampire courts and the Fae prepare for war to protect their lands and seek conquest. The demons are multiplying in the world of Illyria. In the previous year, the demon Lord Raghnall was supposedly slain but his shade remains. That shade commands the demons in their invasion. Already several edges of Illyria have been taken over and subverted to the demons needs. Raghnall is tearing apart Illyria again, and soon the Fae and the vampire courts will join in. Only the higher ups of the three factions seem to know what their leaders are truly looking for. Their leaders lie, and come up with excuses for doing what they do but in the end the leaders are after one thing. The Chalice, and the power that comes with it.

Elves choose to remain in their forests but they know the threat swiftly approaching and are ready to fight if necessary. Humans on the other hand, are as clueless as ever.

Somehow, fate will do as she does best and spin the threads of the races together. But whoever gets the Chalice will be left up whatever events are about to transpire.

~Races~

Humans: The race that populates most of Illyria. Humans are a confusing race emotion wise but usually rely on weapons then magic. Usually, unless they are a strong practitioner or hold a True Rune they don't use complicated magic. Their life span is by far the shortest.

Elves: A beautiful and mysterious race rarely seen in Illyria these days. They hide in their forests and hold great attunement to nature, which is why when the war happened it hit them the hardest. They like to remain neutral in affairs. Highly gifted in magic. Known to live for centuries, rarely dying of natural causes. Like the Fae and vampires, they are divided into courts ruled by Royal Families.

Vampires: In Illyria there is three types of vampires based on the three courts. The Black court has vampires similar to a story written to a human named Stoker where they're more susceptible to sunlight, gifted in the black arts, and can transform but stronger, older members can walk freely in sunlight. The Red Court as slightly weaker vampires in comparison to the Black court. They look human and can freely walk in sunlight but under their human mask if a monstrous being of incredible strength that isn?t easily controlled. Their saliva is a narcotic used to place their victim in a form of ecstasy, also highly addictive. Finally is the White Court, known as the most humane and also naturally very physically attractive. They have no problems with sunlight or objects of faith (like a cross) but they lack the superhuman strength that comes from other vampires aside from their true, more dangerous form. Unlike the other two courts they get their food from human energies, most commonly given off by lust. On the downside however, since they draw most heavily on lust they have a strong aversion (namely because it can be painful) to feeding on powerful forms of love. The White Court is also known to on occasion, feed off fear or pain. Like the Elves they are limited to living for only a set of centuries. The three courts have their own monarchy comprised of royalty, nobility ("old blood"), and lower-class (newly turned/disgraced/born there).

Fae: Among humans they are called 'fairies'. They are often vain and known to lay illusions of humans. They also seem to follow the rule of the barter system even in the simplest things, which often leads to them trapping unsuspecting beings in their grasp. They are separated into two courts the Winter and Summer courts that are ruled mainly by the two queens, Mab and Titania respectively. There are also two technical other queens but they aren't the main holders in power known as the Lady and the Mother, future and Past, while Mab and Titania represent the present Each court deals with Illyria's weather based on the solstices when they switch. However, it's been known that when they go to war the weather changes to match their destruction. They can't use human runes but they have their own illusion magic and magic they draw from their Queens in the courts. But the Fae can't stand the touch of iron. Like demons, they come in a variety of forms ranging from pixies to trolls to powerful Fae like Mab. The Queens don't directly affect the world of Illyria power wise but each respective court has a mortal "champion". Lifespan is unknown, but they are quite often seen as lesser immortals, beings that can quite often live long spans until killed.

Demons: They are considered among the deadliest of races. They vary in size and power and shape. They can take on human form and possess great affinity from dark magic. They have their own world, a realm of chaos that stands right beside Illyria. Both realms have spaces between them that only supernatural beings like demons and vampires have been able to cross. But their world seems to be crumbling. Currently they follow the shade of Raghnall in hopes of gaining Illyria, a land that is still fresh for their own race. Like the Fae, their lifespan is unknown, but in the Darwinist world of the Void it is rare a being will survive as long as a few centuries.

~Main Countries and Locations~
**Subject to additions as the story continues

Highlands- In the central area of Illyria, home of the forgotten fairy tale. It is filled with rolling hills, many forests surround the areas, and villages hide among nature. The Highlands is a neutral territory run by an elective council in the capital city Casimir. There is a small town known as Corus however, where the story of the Chalice is famous and a certain incident occurred four years ago.

Camshire: Towards the south of Illyria. An area mostly made up of sand. It's a good spot for treasure hunters to visit since underneath the sand lie ruins of mankind's failures. Run by a dictatorship government but things are surprisingly lax. Camshire makes a lot of money in trade for dealing with runes and natural resources. The capital city is known as An Tir.

Lybree: To the east, an island surrounded by the Sepetus ocean. Lybree is well known for producing the best mages through the prestigious academy Rosenkreuz. But because of that they take the laws of magic very seriously and are known for being superstitious. Science is also a looked down upon subject there. They work with Camshire on a regular basis in the Rune business. Though they have a council system, much like the Highlands, the true political power lies in the hands of the academy. The capital city is named after the founder of Rosenkreuz, Rhea Marley.

Kayseri: In the west, surrounded by mountains and filled with valleys. Kayseri is a bit behind in current events (it's hard to get news through) but it doesn't bother them too much since they?d rather be left alone. However, when the time comes, they are usually the first to send soldiers to fight invasions. Capital is known as Iris.

Agalia: Up in the north where it almost always snows and is run by a monarchy government. Right now things are at civil unrest. Things (demons) are attacking from the edges of the map and have already subjugated several areas. However, at the capital city Feitus the common folk are on the boarder of rebellion since they feel the king isn?t doing what it needed to defend their country.

The Void: Not a country, but a realm the brushes right beside Illyria. This is the home of demons. It is a realm of darkness where the strong survive and the weak become food. Currently only demons inhabit the realm under the leadership of Lord Raghnall. The Void is unstable and is starting to crumble so the demons are doing what they feel is needed to survive.

Yggdrasil: A once great tree that was given the name, "Tree of Life" by the Elves. After the Great War over eight hundred years ago, the tree withered and faded. There is still a shrine in memory of it's once mighty beauty and guardians that continue to watch over the tree.

~Technology~

Since science is a looked down upon art, technology is pretty basic. Illyria has up to steam energy in modern areas but though people have learnt to rely on runes to take care of most problems that technology solves. Runes are expensive to buy and even harder to use. Science is looked down upon because it used to be used excessively in Illyria's past until it threatened to destroy Illyria and it's people. It is especially looked down upon by the country of Lybree. There are still relics from the old days of the Age of Science but they are rare to find and use.

~Currency~

Currency in Illyria is the same throughout the countries. Based on the scale of Illyria's money to Earth...
Copper=1
Silver=10
Gold=100
Platinum=1 000

The Fae however prefer the barter system in place of actual money. The barter system is often taken in far terms by the Fae. Payments vary from "small favors" to giving them human babies.

~Magic~

Runes: The most common. They're special gemstones left over from the creation of Illyria and have been exposed to high levels of magic. It tends to include magic for fire, ice, lightning, healing, earth, and wind only but on the rare occasion a true tune appears. True runes are the original runes, gifts from the Gods themselves. True Runes have stronger and more unique powers, which may grant great gifts while some of the true runes are twisted and more like curses. Used by humans, elves, vampires and demons. Runes have limits though (like if you have an Earth rune you can't just make the earth move and shift however you want).

Fae magic: Since the Fae (fairies) can't use runes they can draw illusion magic from themselves but can also draw weather magic based on the court they belong to. And from the courts the Queens act as conductors for the Fae to draw energy.

Elvin: Can use runes and draw strength from Illyria itself. Naturally skilled at magic.

Dark arts: Magic most commonly used by demons and necromancers. It draws power from sacrifices, blood pacts, and or from darkness itself (duh) both literally and figuratively. If you're a demon or Black Court vampire it comes naturally.

~Weapons~

Tools like sword, daggers, staves, and early model guns. And by guns, I don't mean machine guns, laser guns, or plasma beams.
