Lauren: ~The Office~
Sunlight peeked through the blinds in her small office, warming and brightening the room. A pair of songbirds tweeted to each other sweetly, almost as if they were flirting. Alas, there she stayed, still as stone, contemplating.
No one's gonna hire me. I'm fifteen for Christ's sake! Who in their right mind would want a hormonally-challenged teen defending them in court!?
She grunted. It had taken a long time to even get herself an office, too. Her mother had to pay the majority of the money while she offered a couple hundred. It was all she had, really.
Why did she even want to be a laywer in the first place? She had actually... forgotten. She closed her eyes and tried to remember, but in vain.
Grumbling to herself, she finally stood and shut the blinds, obviously aggravated with herself. This wasn't a good idea. I shouldn't have skipped all those grades, shouldn't have gone to that prestigious college, shouldn't have studied law. I should have kept my ass where it belongs. I should be in high school right now, working part-time somewhere. I'd be making a lot more money than I am now....
She returned to her desk and sank into the chair. She stared at the phone, half-expecting someone to call, even though she knew no one would.

The ocean.... Ah, what a nice place. The air is salty, seagulls flying overhead.... Man, that kid's cute! Maybe if I go talk to him, he'll rub sunscreen on my back? Hmm. I guess it's worth a shot–
Ring! Riiing!!
"Holy crap!!" The fifteen-year-old jumped from her chair and actually felt herself land on the cushion. She turned her head about frantically. "Where'd... where'd he go!?" When she realized she had fallen asleep, she grumbled at her obvious lack of common sense.
Ring! Riiing!!
"The phone's... ringing!?" Her heart pounded even harder against her ribs. "I need to relax. It's just a phone call from nowhere, and I just happen to be a lawyer waiting desperately for a case...."
She tried to swallow, but both her mouth and throat were dry. She blinked at the receiver and reached for it causiously, fingers trembling.
Please don't need my help.... Pleeeeease don't need my help....
"Hello, Lauren E. Carrillo, attorney at law. How may I help you...?" Though she tried to sound professional, her voice cracked at the last word. She picked at her fingernails nervously.

"I need your help."
Lauren winced when the woman on the line, who revealed herself as Aria Otohime, uttered that sentence. Damnit.... Why, God, why!? She chuckled nervously when she realized the irony of it all.
She did, however, listen closely to Miss Otohime's story but cocked an eyebrow when she heard several enraged grunts from an older man. She surpressd a laugh when she heard Miss Otohime's explanation of a phone and let it out when she heard his response. When she realized her error, she cleared her throat and was about to speak when she heard the click of an ended call.
She gingerly returned the receiver to its cradle. She took a moment to gather her thoughts. Well, I can't just leave her hanging, and she did say please, which is rare of people these days. I guess I could at least go to see her, right? What's the harm in that? Besides. I should spare her from Captain Cretin.
She straightened her navy-blue blazer, tightened her red tie, and made for the door.

Lauren: ~The Detention Center~
After security checked her at least nine times, she found herself in the visitor's room. There she assumed was Miss Otohime behind a sheet of glass.
She sat down in the available chair and suddenly realized how frigid it was. "Jesus Christ, why is it so cold...?" she mused aloud as she hugged herself. A shiver raced down her spine before she remembered why she went to the detention center in the first place.
She faced Miss Otohime and introduced herself. "Hello," she began, trying to stay collected. "I'm Lauren E. Carrillo, in the flesh. I came down here as soon as I could." She chewed on her lower lip. "You must be Aria Otohime, yes? It's nice to meet you...."
She paused. She actually didn't know what else to say. Smooth, Lauren. Just smooth.

Prosecutor Mark Brandt, age 23, looked over the case report. This was going to be his first trial, and he was going to be ready for it. The defendant, a Ms. Aria Otohime, has been accused of killing her fellow student, a Mr. Joseph Lall. The evidence against her was solid. There was even a witness who reportedly saw everything.
"Very nice." He said to himself. "This case seems almost perfect. There's no way she couldn't have done it!" He declared.
He thought to himself. Whether I win or not, it all depends on the skill of Ms. Otohime's defense attorney...
He put the report down and walked out the door. There was a certain detective he needed to talk with.

Brant entered the Criminal Affairs Department. It wasn't the first time he's seen the place, but it was the first time he's been there as a prosecutor. We walked over to the nearest detective he saw.
"Good morning. ((or is it afternoon?)) I'm looking for detectives Tanaka and Gumshoe, are they around?"
"And you are?" The nosy detective responded.
*Shows ID card* "Prosecutor Mark Brandt. And if you want a raise this month, I suggest you tell me where they are."
"Oh! E-excuse me! Gumshoe is out with that magenta-wearing prosecutor, but Tanaka is over there."
"Thank you."
He left the detective with a grin. He always wanted to be able to say something like that, and today was his day. He approached Detective Tanaka.
"Good morning. ((again, or afternoon?)) I'm Mark Brandt, I'm prosecuting for the Otohime case."

He looked at the evidence. My first evidence list he thought It looks so....official . He went down the list. It's all here. Everything I need. Brandt chuckled to himself, although a murder was nothing to be laughing over.
"Where did the incident occur?" He said in his most professional voice.

Lauren shrugged as the other tapped the glass severing contact with them. "I'm just doing my job, Miss Otohime," she replied, rolling her shoulders back and easing up a bit.
"Calc? As in Calculus?" She shivered, and not just because of the cold. "What lovely memories come rushing to my head whenever I hear that word...." She coughed and began questioning her as she saw fit.
"Mr. Lall was your tutor? So you must have been having some difficulty in the class I'm assuming?" She paused. "And you say he was an old friend as well. Why would anyone want to kill their tutor and their friend?" She shook her head and paused. "Do you have a history of... 'backstabbing,' for lack of a better term?" she finally asked.
She then realized how heartless she must have sounded. She looked away for a moment, her nervousness preventing her from keeping eye contact. "I'm sorry if I sound cold, but I have to ask these things. I want to know why in the world someone would pin this on you." She cleared her throat and hesitated before looking back up at the other and smiling sheepishly.
"Ah, but I should probably be asking those standard questions, shouldn't I?" She chuckled apprehensively. "Well, where were you at the time of the murder? Tell me what happened to the best of your ability, Miss Otohime."

Brandt chuckled. Kids these days... ((OOC: I really shouldn't talk))
He took the autopsy report and flipped through.
Blunt force trauma to the back of the head. Death was instantaneous.
"Hmm" he finally said after a long pause "The evidence clearly points to her, but the motive part is kind of sketchy." He wondered what could have driven the defendant to kill her tutor and friend. Maybe they got into a fight, or were having problems with each other.
Well, as long as we have the decisive evidence, and the witness' testimony to match, we should be alright. There's no way she can escape that.....right? He thought to himself.
That reminded him
"You mentioned a witness?"

" I was going to ask Joe out, but heard yelling coming from the main hall. I heard a thud, and ran to see what happened. When I got there, I saw Joe slumped over the desk. One of the the voices came from Aria Otohime; I've heard her enough times to recognize it. "
"Hmm" he said aloud. "This is pretty solid."
Let's see that defense attorney find a contradiction in this! He thought to himself one more. Well, what's the next logical course of action, Dr. Brandt?
After looking the photo of the crime scene one more time, he stood up. "Well, I think I have all I need evidence-wise, but would you show me the actual crime scene?"
He looked at the detective sitting in front of him.
She looks incredibly young, but she's already made a name for herself.
It's true, even someone as new as Brandt had heard about Detective Mitsuki Tanaka, who would never leave until the crime scene was throughly checked at least three times, usually more than that. He hasn't heard of any investigator as through and precise.

~Crime Scene: Phamous University Shiro lecture theatre~
Tanaka opened the doors to the room, "Well, here we are." she stated, walking down to where some white rope marked where the victim's body was positioned. "It's quite a mess, the gifts left for him were strewn everywhere." she explained. "According to character witnesses, the victim didn't talk openly about hobbies, so anything under the sun would turn up as a gift. He mostly found a way to take them all and sort through them later."
Just then a man looked in, "Detective, is there any chance that...?"
"No Mr Mason, I have told you already, we need to maintain the crime scene as long as the investigation is pending, that means that we can't let you use this lecture theatre." she answered.

He walked over to where the rope was positioned. It was in the shape of the person, slumped over on the desk. Gifts of all types were strewn about the floor.
This must have come about from the defendant's argument
with the victim. I wonder what got them so worked up.
"Detective, is there any chance that...?"
"No, Mr. Mason, I have told you already, we need to maintain the crime scene as long as the investigation is pending, that means that we can't let you use this lecture theatre."
Brandt turned around. A middle-aged man was looking in through the doors. Brandt concluded that the man was the calculus professor.
The prosecutor thought a bit. I only one witness. It can't hurt to at least hear what this man has to say.
He stopped the man before he left. "Excuse me, Mr. Mason. My name is Mark Brandt, I'm the prosecutor for the case. I was wondering if I could ask you some questions about the murder?"

Tanaka nodded, "We received a call from a girl, I take it these were some of the girls with a crush on the victim."
Mason looked thoughtful, "Several actually, Joseph was a kind and handsome young man, bright too. He unwittingly charmed half the class. Aria, he was friends with her since before they came here. I can't believe she'd kill him."
Tanaka didn't address the matter, "Mr Mason here is the senior lecturer of mathematics here." she told Brandt.

All of a sudden, the prosecutor wasn't feeling as confident as before. He looked at the Detective.
"Well, we have enough, but we're still lacking in the motive and testimony part. From what we keep hearing, the victim and defendant were great friends. Furthermore, we only have one witness, who still didn't witness the actual murder. Are you sure there's nobody else who I can put on the witness stand?"

Brandt thought to himself some more. Maybe he should ask the witness a few questions, just so he can be sure nothing weird is going on.
"Do you know where the witness is right now? I'd like to talk to her."

Brandt strolled out. Gumshoe was out in when he first arrived at the police station, where on Earth could he be now?
Brandt returned to the police station, maybe someone there knew.
