“Uhh...” Zarmilla rubbed her forehead as if in pain. “Unless we wandered into some weird time travel plot where I’m secretly your mom I’m just as lost as you are.”

“Oh wait, maybe it was released through my dad’s publishing company? Not sure if you’d put that on smack-dab in the middle of the cover though.”

"Well, hold on. The other one didn't respond yet. Let's wait 'til we hear both of them! I'm really hoping for something juicy, like, neither of them remembers anything! That would be the kicker!"

Sorry for being awful and late

Carmilla, who up until this point has still been cradling herself and freaking out, finally manages to compose herself. Somewhat. She's still hugging her knees to her chest, but now she's looking around at everyone with misty, azure eyes. Progress!

"That..." She chokes on her words for a second, "novel I was reading... was a work my father had part in writing a few years ago. Hence why his name is on the binding, along with the primary author... Davenport & Hext.

"Huh... But Teddy - I can call ya that, right?" Caked asked him as an aside before continuing. "...he said nobody in Carmilla's family worked on the book, right? Not trying to say Carmilla's wrong, exactly, just... it's weird. Far as I can tell, neither of them have a reason to lie about it."

"Wwell, um..." Carmilla bites her bottom lip, "I do believe I can explain. What I know, at least..." She mutters, quieter, "S-sorry for not doing so already."

"Hmm...I wonder if we can really figure out which Camilla is the real one just based off of memories?" Griffin said. "It seems kind of weird to end it with just 'I forgot.' You guys have more to talk about, right?"

Griffin pointed his camera and the two Camilla's.

"C'mon, you're live! Give us a little more. It's not sitting right with me."

"I mean is there something that only the real Carmilla would know? But the only person who could even attempt to verify the truth would be Lilith, right?" Zakuro asked.

"Um... not that I can remember," Lilith admitted. "Don't you think that, um, if there was one, it would've been brought up by now? Anyway, uh, look, the rich Carmilla is the real one... she's not a total asshat like the prisoner one is... when she tutored me, Carmilla was the only person who ever treated me like a... like an actual person..."

"Well, I just want to know what the truth is," Griffin shrugged. "You're right. I don't believe you right now. Not until we get more information at least, and you were our best bet. That's unfortunate, huh?"

Griffin smiled at the prisoners. "Don't worry, guys! I won't vote to kill you until we figure out the truth behind everything! I would never forgive myself!"

"...That being said, if Lilith is right, there's not much of a case for you all right about now."

Lilith looked to the floor and sighed. "I'm sorry, Carmilla. I tried my best, but... I'm not very good at... arguing. I have no more ammo, I guess..."

"The way I see it is that one of them clearly remembers you! The other one, the one in jail, has an excuse not to. Which means she's clearly wrong anyway, because she refuses to defend herself!" Vera triumphantly places her hands on her hips. "How's that for an argument?!"

"One Carmilla has an explanation, and the other has a lot of excuses. One of them isn't in prison, and the other keeps trying to feed us this stupid narrative about how she was replaced and framed and not a single person noticed, apparently. One of them has a witness, and the other has a weird accent." Hubert summed up. "I think this choice is easier than you're all making it seem. Lilith may not be trustworthy, but with how isolated she's been ever since her arrest I highly doubt she could coordinate something like this. Zarmilla is the identity thief, and a very inept one at that."

"Mmm, but you could say she's doing such a bad job, that it's really not suspicious at all," Griffin suggested. "No offense fake Carmilla! But you really are doing kind of a sucky job at sticking up for yourself. But don't worry! In my eyes, that makes you more trustworthy!"

"Mmm, well, my gut says it's possible that there are two scenarios. Where either Camilla is the real one. And your gut says only one scenario is possible. That it's impossible for the poor Camilla to be the real one. So if we go with my gut, then we can make sure that your gut is the correct gut."

Griffin gave Lilith a thumbs-up. "It's super safe!"
