Mershit!” Uncle Billy shouted, “Again! Why must I be teared from so many family members after only just meeting them!”

Uncle Billy appeared near the corpses, examining the two bodies to verify whatever Asher found. He seemed oddly calm in the face of the violence, looking on with an expression of rage, but he was still as horrified as everyone else.

“This exactly like how it was described in story,” he remarked, “While I don’t put it past certain people here to pull crazy stunt, I don’t know how they could replicate that without witchcraft themselves.”

He looked up from the scene and stared at the others, frowning in concern.

“Either way, it up to us to make justice happen here! With storm outside, this place basically become lawless region. I know this more painful for all of you than I imagine! But we don’t have much time to waste. I have feeling killer will strike again!”

Peace and calm.

She took a slower, shuddering breath. "Th-there were four, before... and-- now..."

Peace and calm.

"... The gun." Lucine muttered, pushing her mother away. "Like in the story. Father has a gun."

She wiped her face with her hat, finally getting it dry. Despite still looking red, her expression was back to the stony look she'd practiced to perfection. "Uncle Billy is right. We have to find the killers, or we will have more deaths soon. Grandmother's story must have been a warning, so there should be only five of them..."

"Wh-What? 'Tell the others' what?" Zach asked, his curiosity piqued, not knowing whether his wife was deluded from shock or had something important to say - but he dismissed the former immediately because his wife is simply the best person ever and is never wrong.

He breathed loudly and slowly, in part trying to steady his own breath and also give his wife something to synchronize her breaths with.

"C-Can you stand?" Zachary asked, moving to an upright position and offering a hand for Robin to help her to her feet.

Jacqueline's expression shifted from terrible sadness to forced serenity. She felt the broken pieces of her heart shift and form to try and repair itself, and yet it remained cracked and shattered. She didn't have enough glue to fix these wounds . . . not . . . not yet . . .

She stood straight up, dusting off her dress as she gently wiped her face of her tears. Lucine was strong . . . she was such a strong soul. Perhaps it was Jacqueline who was the weak one. Perhaps it was her who was incapable of pulling herself together. She could learn a thing or two from her daughter . . . she could learn how to not be such a pest. Such an inconvenience.

She stopped for a moment, very gently grasping at the cloth that covered her chest. She was so pathetic . . . Pathetic pathetic pathetic pathetic . . . so utterly pathetic. She should be yelled at for being so utterly and unbelievably pathetic. She couldn't do anything. She couldn't even REASSURE HER OWN SADDENED DAUGHTER!!!!

No . . . no no no . . . no . . . shut up. Stop. Just don't. Leave her alone. Stop eating away at her emotions, stop making her feel numb and restless. Let her be able to contain it all. Let her be gifted the ability to hide her agony. Stop being pessimistic. Stop wallowing in all of this sadness. No one has time for your sadness. No one has time for your mourning . . .

She continued walking, releasing her hand from the cloth of her dress and making her way over to Zachary and Robin. She hesitantly put a hand on Zachary's back and the other on Robin's shoulder. "D-darlings, are you alright?" Her voice cracked, to which she angrily mentally yelled at herself for. You must remain calm. And serene. There is no time for your emotions . . . You get in the way of everything. And everyone.

She said nothing at first, just tried to match his breathing in quiet gratitude. It helped her get her bearings. She realized that there were tears streaming down her face, but it was more of a physical reaction than an emotional one.

Robin looked up at him, nodded, and took his hand. She tried to brace herself against the wall as he helped her stand on shaking legs. She didn't let go of him - rather, she clung to his arm for support.

"Yes! Let's do that." Smooth, Zach. And then a thought burned in his mind. "R-Robin . . . What . . . did you . . . ?" He asked, whispering in her ear as softly as he could. There was no way . . . right? He put an arm around her to steady her as they began to walk.

Jacqueline stiffened as the other spoke, closing her eyes gently as her dark red lips pursed together. They'd be so close . . . to their dead . . . cold . . . faces. Their no longer beating hearts would be right beneath their noses. As if they were gently knocking at Death's door. She gulped down her fear before opening her eyes once more, giving a gentle smile. "Darling, I shall go with you. I'm sure Zachary will as well, r-right?" She stared at Zachary, gulping again. Oh, Zach. You've got to be the strong lad for the two ladies, don't you? Or not. We could all just go and be the mentally unstable trio! Heray! Good for us.

After examining his eyes for any potential evidence (he didn't expect to find anything, but just in case), Asher closed his eyelids to try and give him some look of peace.

Violet had been gagging for a while in a corner, a few tears streaming down her face. Eventually, she pieces herself together after a few coughs and takes a longer look at the bodies, wiping her eyes.

"Were-- Were they both killed by a, a witch? Twilip's body is... err... far less clean than Archer's, if you get what I mean."

L-Lippy...” Basil gasped as he looked upon the scene of carnage “N-no...it can’t be that the story was true...” he slowly approached the body of Twilip kneeling down to brush her hair off her face.

He recoiled suddenly, crawling backwards across the floor in horror at her smile. “W-w-w-witches!” He stammered “It must be! I can’t believe it but all the events of that’s story they...they feel so real.” His head shot up in realisation and whipped around as he scanned the people around him

Spotting Asher and Violet, he rushed over to them and held them tightly. “Oh children, I’m so glad you are ok. D-don’t worry, we’ll deal with this right...we’ll get off this island and go-“ an unfortunately timed lightning strike reminded him of the storm outside.

“Oh...” he spun his head around again to look out the window at the storm. “I...I have to go check on Wyn. Both of you stick together, the killer might still be around.” He warned his kids before sprinting off to check his wife’s safety.

Bertram could only stare in horror at the sight. His most trusted butler, and his dear, and only, sister. "So much blood... why is there so much blood? The story wasn't like this," he muttered, blocking his nose and mouth with a handkerchief. It took all his effort not to retch, which he felt would only be disrespectful to those who had died.

He quickly checked on how his elder daughter was doing, and was relieved to see Jackie attending her. That left him with the time to grieve alone for a short while.

"Don't you put this on us!" Bertram snapped. "Archer was a far better servant than you ever were. He was a man I respected and trusted. They got Twilip too... My own sister! Only a deranged madman could have done this."

"You're right. We will find whoever did this, and ensure they are punished. Don't worry Lucine, whoever did this to Archer will not get away with it," Bertram said, glaring around at everyone else in the room as though he'd find a blood-soaked killer just standing there, ready to be shot. "Focus on the objective, Lucine. It'll get you through the hard times," he advised, before storming off to get his gun.

Wyn clutches her necklace in shock, stunned at the horrific turn of events.

"This can't be... When will this nightmare end?!" She cries out. "Zilly, I want to leave this place this instant! I have had enough of these witchy dealings!"

Hearing his wife's cry, Basil dashed back into the room "Wynnie!" he rushed over to har and held her close gently stroking her hair to calm her "I know dear, I know, I want to leave too but...the-the storm." he gestured to the rain lashing the windows.

"We can call for help but I don't think we can leave...maybe we should just hide away and lock our doors until this passes..." he wondered aloud watching Bertram stalk off to get the gun.

"Are we SERIOUSLY just going to go through this like in the story?!" He stammered, more in disbelief than protest.

"I'm afraid we'll have to catch the witches if we have to survive this mess, Basil..." Vincent said as he cross his arms and ponders over things for a moment. "Auntie Gloria did say that we're all descended from witch-hunters, so it would make sense for us to find the witches."

“Exactly, Bazel,” Uncle Billy replied, “You are born witch-hunter! Don’t you remember? Doesn’t it feel familiar to all of you? This feeling of adrenaline? Finding killers hidden amongst you? Judging by book you are quite skilled, having even come back from dead! We need your help here, Bazel!”

Uncle Billy glanced around the room.

“Now where is gun?”

Basil grasped his head in frustration "Come now Billy, that wasn't even explained and I most certainly didn't come back from the dead..." he took some deep breaths as he tried to process what was going on.

"Ok...well if we are to assume the book has some grain of truth in it, then you should listen to what I did last night."

:witnesstestimony:

"I couldn't get the story out of my mind...it was so vivid and since Twilip was pretty suspicious at the end of the story I...decided I should keep an eye on her." Basil muttered looking away. "I watched where she went, and she visited you first Billy and then little Lucine." he said gesturing to both of them before crossing his arms.

"Now in the story, Twilip claimed she could duplicate the powers of other people, but I don't see how visiting two people in a night ties in well to that action which is well...fishy..." Basil finished lamely, not quite bringing himself to openly voice his suspicions that his sister was a witch.

Uncle Billy glanced around the room.

"Right here," Bertram announced, returning with the gun in hand. He briefly considered tossing it to someone, as he wasn't sure he could trust himself right now, but then he realised he could trust everyone else even less. "Let's get this out of the way now: I won't shoot anyone unless enough of us agree on it. It's the only way to maintain order right now. Still... I'm going to have to ask you all to explain yourselves, and if I'm not happy with your answer, well... I just hope, for all our sakes, that it won't come to that."

He turned to Basil first. "I don't know how much truth there is in that book you found, but right now it's one of the few leads we have, and I'm willing to take whatever I can get if it means stopping the people who did this. So, this might sound crazy, but: who was it that told you about the 'room-switching ability' while you were dead? The book didn't say, but there's a chance that somehow you know the answer. If the book is right, I can only assume the witches already know the answer if this person revealed themselves to you while they were dead."

"Maybe... mother wrote another book that you read sometime? Or perhaps she told you a story about it when you were much younger, and you forgot?" Bertram suggested weakly. He didn't like having to rely on supernatural information in the slightest, but he had no choice in the matter.

"In... in any case, I can see why those deranged murderers went after poor Archer. He was just trying to protect people, which could throw a wrench in their plans. You've all heard by now how mother seemed to think my witch-hunter ancestry made me immune to witchcraft. That makes me the perfect stand-in if they try any funny business: Archer swaps attention from someone important to me, and their attempt at murder is quashed. They must have realised this, and prioritised him..."

"...I think it did", Maurice said. "I remember it too. Your trash-talking me in there, the tea... I remember it all! Good lord!" He grimaced. "I... I thought that sounded familiar, but..." He put his hands in his head.

"...Wait, the room-switching! That was what happened at the end of all that... I'd heard you and Wyn were both swapped from what Basil had said. That was why I never visited you like I claimed that day, and why you never noticed me! I had gone into Wyn's room instead. So instead, I went into Wyn's room after I found out about the swapping... But Archer was dead. So I never got swapped, and instead got murdered with Wyn... It all seems to add up."

"...Incidentally, Bertram." He raised an eyebrow. "I believe I tried visiting you just now as well. But if Archer was still up to his tricks... You didn't see me again this time, did you? That would mean I visited... whoever he swapped you with instead. Not that we'll know now, I suppose..." He shook his head. "But this does seem to indicate that Archer would have been an ideal target for these witches with the information from the story. And... it does seem likely Twilip could have been a witch. Did they eliminate her themselves or was she targeted by an unknown party..? And... you two!" He looked at Wyn and James. "Your roles! James, who did you poison? And who did you investigate this time, Wyn? Do you have any new information for us?" He asked.

"Good lord, though... I can't believe this is happening. How even..?"

‘Mickey’ shook his head, dumbfounded. Even he seemed to be having trouble grasping the nature of his reality.

“Last night I invited Briggs to my room. I kissed him. Then when it was his turn to kiss me, he was as incompetent at it as anything else. So I sent him back.” ‘Mickey’ did not say ‘kiss’. He said something much more shocking and scandalous to any given room in 1987, let alone an older family. It was far too vulgar to write in a forum game post.

This walk was taking forever, so to pass the time, Zachary shouted to the others in the room, "Well, the story certainly got my ability right. I can visit people to see if they've yet visited each other. Last night, I was trying to confirm a hunch I had, so I visited Violet and myself, but . . . strangely, neither of us had visited each other. I'd think my visit would count, but . . . ." He trailed off. Maybe he was just confused by the grisly scene he was walking towards - and Mickey's antics. Hopefully his mind would clear soon enough.

"'Third eye'? Hogwash," Zach dismissed, "If that story is to be believed, Bertram saw me visit him a couple times, so yes I do have to physically visit them. Besides . . . "

His mind was now a bit clearer, and he realized his mistake, "Uh, yeah, my visiting Violet counted, so I've visited her once. Sorry for the confusion."

"Now in the story, Twilip claimed she could duplicate the powers of other people, but I don't see how visiting two people in a night ties in well to that action which is well...fishy..." Basil finished lamely, not quite bringing himself to openly voice his suspicions that his sister was a witch.

“Me?” Billy shouted, caught by surprise. “Well, I not notice anything happen to me, so hopefully it not some bad delayed effect...”

“I agree that not make sense considering Twily’s claims, unless she first copy someone and then use that ability on other person. But we can only theorize now. That make me think this maybe was witch sacrifice. It seem like many of us planning to get more info from her before this happen.”

"Think of the objective... The objective..."

"... If aunt Twilip visited me, I would certainly like to know why, though I suppose that's a question she cannot answer at the moment." she said. "As for me, I was worried about uncle Basil, so I paid him a visit."

He said something much more shocking and scandalous to any given room in 1987, let alone an older family. It was far too vulgar to write in a forum game post.

"Don't you put this on us!" Bertram snapped. "Archer was a far better servant than you ever were. He was a man I respected and trusted. They got Twilip too... My own sister! Only a deranged madman could have done this."

[THEME MUSIC]

Robin, Zach and Jackie look over Twilip's body, searching for clues. It appears her skull was fractured, probably around where the blood splatter on the ground is. From what the group can tell, she was pushed over the balcony from the second floor. The blood is fresh, so she was killed toward the end of a long night.

Twilip reeks of reefer. Seems like she had a run-in with a certain cousin during the night.

Her face is contorted into a smile, like those in the story. It's not too crazy though. She looks almost like how she would have smiled when she was alive.

She was dragged a short distance, but not to anywhere in particular, likely by someone downstairs. It seems unlikely that she dragged herself. It seems that maybe someone looked her over in the minutes before everyone woke up.

In the mean time, Asher and Billy investigate Archer's body as well.

Archer peacefully sits in his chair. On him, he has a couple rings of keys for accessing many of the Moonview Manor's secrets. It looks like three of the keys have been taken off the key ring, one to Bertram and Jackie's room, two to the guest bedrooms. Other than that, he's smiling peacefully, his eyes unblinking. He has no external injuries.

Violet looks confused. "You mean that I wasn't in my room? Or that you tried to visit me but couldn't? This is confusing."

"I wanted to wait to share this until we heard from everyone." 'Mickey' sighed. "But if our fate is to follow the book, we will spend most of our time waiting and end up not killing anyone. I can't let that happen.

"I had trouble sleeping last night, and I got real bad vibes about the book. I felt like something terrible was going to happen, and I had a good feeling it would happen to Uncle Zap. So I went to his bedroom. And now he's still alive." It seemed like he was being deliberately vague on purpose.

"Before all of you throw me on your shoulders and chant 'hero!', I gotta be honest and say I can't know if I actually did anything. If we only had 3 victims I might be more willing to see it as a coincidence. But since we had 2, I have a feeling the witches targeted Uncle Zap last night."

"Well, I think I'm comfortable with just that one time," Briggs shrugged. "And after our little fun, I suppose...I should reveal I visited James."

Were it not for Jackie and Zach's support, Robin was sure she would not have gotten through the investigation. She was feeling quite ill as it was. But it seemed quite clear that Twilip had not been killed by witches.

Robin grimaced. "I knew it," she muttered. "I knew it."

"Everyone, listen!" she cried out, in rather a frantic mood. "I know it's hard to believe, but there really are witches afoot! And I think I might know who their leader is!"

...

In rather short order, Robin was standing in front of whoever had gathered to listen to her. She shot a glance at Zach, straightened, and spoke up:

:witnesstestimony:

"I've been having... dreams," she said to the group. "I thought they were nothing, but after all of this..." She gestured miserably to the crime scene. "Last night, I dreamed that I was playing chess with someone. That - neither of us could move or speak. All we could do was play. And I got the feeling that - I wasn't trying to win. I was just trying to stall for time. We played and played for what felt like hours, and then... I couldn't stop it. The game ended in a stalemate. The person I was playing with stood up, and I tried to move, and... that's the last thing I remember."

She took a deep breath. "Last... time this all happened... the only people who died on the first night were killed by witches. Someone was killed by a mortal on the second night. I believe that Basil wasn't drugged; he was truly murdered by someone. And I believe I stalled that person, and they actually meant to kill Basil on the first night." Her eyes flitted around the room. "I won't reveal who it was, because I don't believe them to be a witch. But - I believe that same mortal committed murder on the first night this time, because this time, I dreamed about someone else.

"The person who I dreamed about last night had their powers delayed by a day. And Twilip was not killed by a witch. Do you see what this means?" She swallowed. "It means, the witches did not get to follow their plans last night. They would have killed four of us if they could. I think... the only person who can explain what's going on here is the person I delayed last night."

Her gaze settled on a particular person. "Please tell me I'm wrong. Please tell me you're not a witch, Vincent."
