Dry shrugged. "Yeah I can understand that. If you believe our bone-ified jailer, the one who actually brought us here is one of us-- 'Zero' I think he called him. It's not crazy to think that if 'Zero' is one of us, he might have planted someone on his side among us as well. The only way to ensure our safety is to be in groups no lesser than four."

He turned to address Queen. "By the way, are you sure you're okay being alone out here and waiting for us? Just because we're the only ones that came out of the cells, it doesn't mean that we're the only ones in this jail."

Queen shrugs.

Well, that's true. And it's true that there was that extra cell, and so the idea of a tenth player isn't exactly out of the question, but, considering our numbering scheme, it seems quite unlikely. Also I guess some outsider could be prowling about looking to just randomly murder us, but again that doesn't seem too likely. I'll be completely sealed in these two rooms like we are now, and we can see pretty clearly that there's nothing in here...

She pauses in thought.

Either way, I'm stronger than I look, so unless someone's got a gun, I'm not scared.

The Judge blips into life on a number of monitors beside the doors.
Image
"Hey...hope you are ready. Your time is up...and the winner is..."

Option Dry B: 5 Votes: Ant, D, Neo, Penta, Vii)
Room 4 - Neo [1], Dry [3], D [4], Penta [5]
Room 6 - Bishop [2], Ant [6], Vii [7], Persephone [9]

"Just scan your bracelets on these monitors and you can go ahead..."
The Judge disappeared replaced with a small circle with 'scan here' written on the inside.

(More rules for the ROOM phase: You can search a "point of interest" by declaring it publicly in the room thread. First come first served. Searching is not an action. While in a room you will NOT be allowed to post here in the main thread or use a BASIC ACTION on anyone who is not in your room. You will be provided with ROOM Quicktopics to communicate with your fellow inmates in the room.)

The Judge blips back to life on the monitors by the doors as the participants gradually emerge from their doors. Once out the doors all lock with an audible "CLICK" once more.

Image
"Hey you guys...I missed you, bet Queen did too, but it's finally time for you guys to put your heads together. By now you should have had plenty of time to get to know each other so..."

Image
"It's time to pass JUDGEMENT"

"So lets have a refresher on the rules shall we?"

Spoiler: JUDGEMENT PHASE
Participants will cast one vote to PUNISH and one vote for MERCY
The votes cannot be for the same people to receive PUNISHMENT AND MERCY
Votes will be made privately in the GM QT
If a tie is reached on PUNISHMENT any tied individuals will be PUNISHED.
If a tie is reached on MERCY no one will receive any MERCY.
Votes will be locked in at phase change BUT I will only accept ONE vote, this means that once you make the vote and I see it you will NOT be allowed to change it later on so choose wisely.

BASIC actions and abilities are all available again.

"By the by...I've hidden a little present somewhere around the place for those inquisitive enough to find it. Those doors you came through? You can go back in if you like but if you don't have a digital root for the door you won't be allowed to escape the room...so don't try and go in alone y'know?"

(Next Phase change: Thursday probably. I will be going on holiday on Thursday so I'll try and do what I can for it but such is life.)

Queen relaxes as the groups finally roll back in. She had been standing in the middle of the room dead still.

Wow, that took longer than I figured. No matter, there weren't any problems out here.

Reports?

What did people find in the safes?

Also we should probably check out door 5 as soon as we can. There might be something good there. (Well, at least something good that didn't get incinerated.)

Persephone spoke up, safely wrapped in her new winter coat from behind the 6 door. "If we...if we choose to go through any of th-the doors, espec-specifically the 5 one, can we...I mean, can I come? My d-digital root doesn-won't be an issu-problem, I don't think..." She moved back away from the group, sat down, and disappeared inside her jacket.

"I don't think we should have too many unnecessary people going into rooms. If someone finds something and decides not to share it with the others, a smaller number of suspects will help narrow things down."

Vii pulled his glasses off and wiped the snow and fog from them with the bottom of his shirt. "Speaking of sharing, I found the key to that sword lock we saw earlier."

Okay then, the four of us can go together.

Queen looks excitedly to the others.

Exciting to finally see what's behind one of these doors after sitting around for as long as I did.

That's Bishop, Persephone, D and I then?

(If you have a matching bracelet combination as digital roots still apply. You will also need the digital root to get out as well though. If so I'll post the room tomorrow morning, it's super late. I feel it would be unfair without letting others have a look anyway. So long as there is a digital root any number of individuals can go through the door now. If it's in the door phase any non-scanned individuals would normally be penalised. Sleep time)

Bishop looked at his bracelet then back at everyone else again.

"So, do any of you understand what this punishment entails? Does the person we vote for die or do they just get a light turned on (penalty)?"

Bishop couldn't believe he was speaking about death so...logically. Perhaps this insane predicament he was put in gave him no choice but to speak from his brain or go insane.

"Hold on! Before we go anywhere, there are some things we need to discuss..." Dry trailed off, as if conflicted.

"I opened the safe in Room [4]. It had like a transcript or memo or something in it." he continued uncertainly. "Did you guys find a safe in Room [6]? Anything good in it?"

"According to the Judge, the penalty for punishment is two bracelet lights followed by an electric shock of corresponding severity," Vii responded flatly.

"A-A-Are you serious, Vii?" D stammered, now scared. She slowly sank down to her knees.

This has to be a nightmare she must be having. No... This is a nightmare that is real and there's no escaping it... Unless she and the others finds a way out of this place.

D still remains on her knees, clearly frightened.

"We don't wanna discuss what we found in the safes in Room [4] and [6]?" asked Dry, a little exasperated. "Ya know, figuring out why we're here might give us a clue how to escape..."

"Oh, and for this 'Judgement Phase', I have an idea how to deal with that, too." said Dry, sending a reassuring nod towards D. "Well, at least to minimize the pain."

He looked up. "Skellington Judge Judy-- I got a question for you. What does voting MERCY do? I know the person you vote Punish for gets their shock counter increased, but what does Mercy do?"

"I know about as much as what was in the safe as you do: jack shit. Our buddy here never seemed to learn that 'sharing is caring', so I doubt we're going to get much headway if we keep asking him. As for the blessing, who knows? But if I had to wager a guess I'd say that it probably turns one or two lights on the bracelet off. So it won't matter much for this round because none of us should have penalties yet, and I'm doubting we can incur 'negative penalties.'"

"That's my thought as well. In which case, there's an optimal way to vote." said Dry. "In order to minimize our penalties, that is. Here's my thoughts-- if everyone gets 1 punish vote and 1 mercy vote overall, then all of us will have the minimum penalty. There's a way to do this-- if everyone votes to punish the number higher than them (with 9 voting to punish 1) and votes mercy on the number lower than them (where 1 votes to show mercy to 9) then everyone would have 9 punish votes and 9 mercy votes."

"I know what you'll say next-- that Queen doesn't get to vote because she didn't get to go through the numbered doors. In that case, the solution is to continue with the plan, as if Queen didn't exist. In other words, Vii would vote to punish Persephone, and Persephone would vote to show mercy to Vii. What do you think of this plan?"

"There is still however an optimal outcome." Ant finally spoke up, having been lost in thought as he organised votes in his head. "We split into three groups. A group of four, the punisher circle. A group of three, the merciful circle. And then an individual, the subject. The punisher circle all vote to punish each other in a loop, each receiving one vote. The merciful cycle all vote to punish the subject, who also punishes themselves."

"Then, the punisher circle all vote mercy for the subject, while the merciful cycle votes mercy for each other in their loop. The subject can't vote mercy for themselves, so they vote for a hopefully arbitrary person to receive mercy instead."

"The end result is that the 7 cycle members have either a single vote for punishment or a single vote for mercy. The subject, on the other hand, has four votes for punishment, topping all others, but also four votes for mercy, again topping all others. As a result, they get both the punishment and mercy, which hopefully negate each other."

"A notable feature of this strategy is that even if one or two people betray the rest, it shouldn't sway the votes enough. In addition, by defining a clear distribution of votes in this way, it will be easier to track when people vote incorrectly, as if one person is missing their punishment vote, for instance, we know exactly which other person was supposed to vote for them to be punished."

Ant thought for a few moments, and then nodded, believing himself to have covered all points about his plan.

"Both? Both. Both! Both is good."

A hint of irritation began to creep into the Judge's normally calm voice.

"If everyone votes another for MERCY and everyone votes another for PUNISH, then everyone will be tied on both accounts. So no one will receive any mercy and EVERYONE will be PUNISHED."

"Same as if only one person had both 4 Mercy and 4 Guilty votes, they would not receive MERCY and would be PUNISHED."

"Well perhaps it is on me then for not running all the scenarios that people might try and wriggle out of their judgement. Then I'll make it plain."

PUNISHMENT ALWAYS TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER MERCY, INMATES CANNOT RECEIVE BOTH

"I hope that makes things a little clearer, though you might stop worrying about minimising damage...can you really guarantee that people DON'T want to judge the guilty?"

"In any case I think there's been ample time for folks to ponder...feel free to check out room 5..."

The group scans it's bracelets against the little monitor in front of the door and the heavy door makes a small "click" noise as it unlocks. Taking a deep breath the group nods to each other before pushing their way in.

The door shuts behind them and clicks as it locks again.

You find yourselves in a large, mostly empty room. Some long tables lie scattered throughout the room clearly shifted out of any kind of formation. Along the wall you can see a large rectangular opening with a small grate under it. Probably a serving area for food The opening itself is bricked up preventing any access through it.

All in all it reminds you of a school lunchroom. In fact you suspect this is where the prisoners would have previously been fed.
Immediately beside the entrance you see a small stone security post with a window to look out of.

Points of Interest:

Guard Post
Dining Tables
