In Japan it's 20. And in Germany, you are legally seen as an adult at age 18 already.
Germany rules!! =P

In Brazil you can do almost everything with 18 years of age... But to watch porn movies, you must be at least 21. Never understood that...

Canada, where I'm from, considers you a full adult at 19, meaning you're able to drink and everything! I'm only a few months away from being of Canada's legal drinking age!

I dunno why people think that someone has to be 21 to drink. I mean, I don't think you get THAT much of a mental "growing up" between the age of 18 and 21. You were either intelligent enough to not drink yourself into a comatose state at the age of 18 and won't do it when you are 21 or older OR the idiot who sneaks alcohol from their parents from the age of 16 onwards and then STILL manage to drink yourself comatose before you are 21 years old.

And the intelligent part can be helped by parents by NOT forbidding alcohol like a giant sin. Reason why I never felt like drinking alcohol once I could? Because when I asked for a sip from my mom's beer or wine, I got a sip. I tasted alcohol from an early age on and never saw the appeal of it.
Also, I find alcohol to taste too sour for me.

And who came up with that BRILLIANT idea of drinking 21 shots on their 21st birthday just because they can drink now? Guys, your body can't handle that much alcohol in a short amount of time. Great way to spend your birthday - in the hospital, hungover and being pumped through an IV with fluids.

That's very reminiscent of the main argument against the abstinence-only approach to sex ed. Alcohol, drugs, tobacco, sex... teaching kids that they are to be avoided under all circumstances gives them a sort of "forbidden fruit" appeal. The problem with such an approach is that many of these fruits will not be forbidden forever, and if the kids aren't taught how to be responsible in such situations, there's a pretty good chance they're going to be irresponsible.

Then, of course, there are the kids who just eat the forbidden fruit when it's still forbidden. Teenagers rebel. Some uprisings are nastier than others, but some form of rebellion is to be expected. Eating the forbidden fruit is pretty much the ultimate middle finger to "oppressive" parents.

And it doesn't stop anyone from watching here either. Well, only in cinemas...

Law is flawed by definition. I do not believe that most laws can be fairly applied to everyone... Who is to decide that you can only drive at 16? I'm 17, so I'm a minor in my country... If I kill somebody now, I can easily go to a reformatory, although I assure you I'm as aware of the consequences of my actions as any 18-year-old.

My friend on his 21st bday he drank himself till he puked and passed out which I have recorded on my phone haha, but yeah especially this generation where now they can find ways of drinking even without being 21 which I think it's stupid because you shouldn't be drinking at a young age plus it's not good for you. I don't drink too much besides a beer once in a blue moon but if anything I'm more of a Wine and Champagne for my tastes but I don't over drink like this generation is doing especially with stupid drinks like "4Lokos" which is energy drink mixed with alcohol

I hope you showed him that video the morning after. And somehow fidged with his computer so that every time he does a certain action on the PC, the video pops up and plays. It's a great way to remind him to not do that again~ :redd:

True. As I said, I only got little sips when I was a kid and that was enough for me. I grew up with alcohol in the house, I got a few sips and was never forbidden from trying any if I wanted. So when I reached the age of 18 and was legally allowed to buy anything from beer to schnaps to winebrands and all that, I just felt no desire to suddenly drink a ton of alcohol. Of course, now that I'm 23 years old, I do drink more alcohol... well, "more" compared to what I have drunk before, which was practically nothing. And even then, it's mostly a cocktail I oder when we eat out.

And because of the way I was raised with alcohol, I will do the same when I have kids. Although my husband isn't very pleased with that idea, but since I see no real consequences from sipping alcohol now and then... Eh, I'm sure he'll come around to the idea eventually.

Exactly. Doesn't matter if a kid went through a Just Say No course or didn't, they will most likely still end up having sex eventually or maybe even do drugs. But they have no idea how to deal with the Just Say No thing they are suddenly confronted with because all they were taught is to Just Say No.

Kids still drink even when they're under the limit. My 13 year old cousin drinks on occasion. Not often, but he still occasionally does it. My doctor told me to avoid alcohol, due to my medication I take and the fact that my psychological conditions mean I could easily become addicted. I do NOT want to become an alcoholic.

I'm about to turn 16, and luckily I've never had any alcohol or drugs at this point. I don't have any problems with drug users as long as they're not harming anyone else. Even when I turn 21, I don't envision myself drinking. I just don't see any point to it since I'm perfectly find with sodas, teas, and water. What else do you really need? Perhaps if I'm curious, I'll try wine at some point; but it isn't a priority to me at all.

Middle school health class is probably one of the most misleading courses I've ever had the displeasure to take. The completely over-exaggerated the effects of weed and made it sound like that every teenager who has sex is infected with an STD. The worst part is that I have to take high school health as a required course next year.

Why do people view sex as such a taboo subject in American culture? It's perfectly natural and a part of life. There's also nothing wrong with teen sex, just as long as both people are careful. I hate it when the adults say "the only safe sex, no sex." That's about just as ridiculous as this:
Image

I personally have never had sex either. I've never had a girlfriend even. At my school, the girls aren't worth a damn. They're either a bunch of bitches, or have zero interest in me. So I've given up on even trying at this point. Either way, it's not a priority for me right now because I'm absolutely swamped with school work.

I couldn't do that since he doesn't have a computer haha but when he tells me I'm a wuss for not drinking alot when we hang out I just show him it and say "I rather be a wuss" xD

I don't mind younger people having sex, as long as it isn't too young...! Like, 14 years old is the minimum age I tolerate about having sex young. And it doesn't even have to do with the German law of sex being allowed age 14 onwards... it's a matter of body and mind being ready for sex.

And as long as they use TWO kinds of protection... scratch that, two RELIABLE kinds of protection, that's okay, too. And by reliable I mean the pill AND a condom. NOT crap like "have sex right before (first) period" which is the WORST. TIME. TO HAVE SEX. You didn't listen during Biology, did you? Or thinking, "But we only did it one time, how can I be pregnant?" because ONE time is all it takes...!

Ugh I'm ranting... but this subject just really gets me going...

It's just this generation view of sex based on what they see on tv like for example shows that show teen mom's who supposedly make it look like its fine to have sex and get pregnant which is very stupid. I don't think though sex is necessary to occur at such a young age, it's mostly about peer pressure and kids at that age arnt mature enough to make decisions on that.

I'm 17 and I already experienced alcohol and cigarettes... Most alcohol drinks have an awfully bad taste and I've never been able to experience the sensations people describe when they drink. Actually, very rarely I can end up drinking a little bit of vodka in a party or something like that, but as I stated, I've never been drunk... I can definitely live without alcohol. Beer sucks so bad, I always wondered why people like it and the only answer I found is that people force themselves to like it.
As for the cigarettes... I'll never touch one again. It takes time for you learn how to inhale properly, the smoke is disgusting and you feel a terrible dizziness after your first drag. The nicotin can make you feel "relaxed" for about 1 minute after the drag, but seriously, it's not worth it...

About the sex, I agree with CatMuto. I can't see someone having sex under, let's say, 14 or 15 years of age in a healthy manner, but NONE of the people that I know who had sex in an early age come from a liberal family. In fact, all of them come from a conservative family, so I'm prone to think that repressing or treating sex as a taboo is wrong in many ways and is useless. Also, the way some people approach it... Like, "oh, it's immoral before marriage" or "oh no, you can't" is totally inadequate...

You know, I'm an atheist; but I can't understand why religious people are so opposed to sex. Even from their perspective, why would God call sex sin if he created it to be pleasurable? Sex is a part of nature and humans are animals. What exactly is the problem here? Why are these conservatives (mostly American) so obsessed over this? I find that European countries are far more liberal when it comes to sex and nudity. Us Americans love violence, but condemn sex; while the Europeans do the opposite. It makes no sense. :yuusaku:

ugh don't get me started on Cigarettes. Thats the one thing I hate most more than anything especially when someone is right infront of you and blows the cigarette right in your face it sickens me so much. :fire: I could never tolerate the smell at all especially that it enhances my allergies so good thing i can never be near the stuff. I don't have a problem with people who smoke... If the person is aware of the consequences, not harming others and smoking in a proper place it's okay with me. I have a few nicotin addict friends and of course, I always let crystal clear to them that I disapprove their addiction and that I think they should stop with it, but that's it -- as a friend, I can't do anything besides share my opinion. Also, I'm not a moralist and I believe in individual freedom... Some personal choices in life are up to you and only you, and if you'll do drugs or not is one of them.

That's what mean, I know i can't stop someone from smoking since it is a addiction thats hard to let go. My grandmother smoked for almost 60 years and we finally got her to stop smoking for over 2 years which im very proud of her. I just wish though people would be considerate and smoke away from people and in a place that won't hard others instead of blowing it in people's faces like the arrogant pricks that they are. :yuusaku:

Well in a few places in Europe smoking is utterly banned indoors in public places but it more annoys the smokers than encouraging people to quit. Still it keeps the second-hand smoke risk down in the workplace so it's pretty good I suppose.

Really it bothers me how a nation can be crippled by addiction, at the training for my new job there would be like 5 'environmental breaks' just for people to go outside and smoke.

Oh my God, I know! I only saw an ad for it once and it showed this 16 year old whore, who looked like every other 16 year old bitch whore I see in Germany, shouting at her mother, "I am a mother! And I am a teenager!" which just drives me insane! Nuh-uh, slut, if you choose to give birth during your teenage years, you are willingly giving up on being a teenager and having the freedom that teenagers have. You fucked, you got pregnant, you choose to "take responsibility" by giving birth, now take responsibility all the way!

If I had been that girl's mother, I would've told her that. Then again, had I been that girl's mother, I doubt she would've been pregnant in the first place... I would've made sure of that. :fire:

Smoking in my vicinity doesn't bother me much. I grew up with my mother smoking and she quit 7 or 8 years ago. I try to not stand downwind when somebody close by is smoking, but I won't get up in their face for smoking near me. Only thing I can't stand is if they smoke, then just throw the cigarette on the ground without stamping on it. That pisses me off, what, you too lazy to step on it. Lemme put the cigarette out... by putting it down your throat!

There are these really stupid people that smoke after school. And it's in front a sign that clearly marks the school zone. They seriously can't walk five feet out of it? Oh well, it's them who get in trouble; not me. The air is so foul around them, though.

Hehe, reminds me of when I was in Junior College. There was at least one point where the teacher told us to go outside during the break, to get a "breath of fresh air"... and everybody in the room, including the teacher, knew that at least half of them were going outside to smoke cigarettes. Kinda defeated the purpose. I avoided all that by simply staying inside during break.

Quote:

And I bet people with children under 15 still smoke with them in the car. Because that is a pretty silly rule/law and the car is, technically, a private place where you can do pretty much anything you want. If you want to raise your child by smoking nearby, that's your doing. This is also the reason why I think it's dumb when police order people making out in a car to stop doing it in a public place

You thought you could be safe in your courts, with your laws and attorneys to protect you. In this world only I am law, my word is fact, my power is absolute.

Mh, not that I know of? At least, nobody seems to be really offended when people display affection in public - unless it's their personal distate for such a thing. Although I am sure there is a limit. Like, no screwing in public or undressing...
