"You see, that's not entirely accurate. I'm not immune to magic, I'm only immune to the Golden Witch in particular. If any other witch, or perhaps someone with any other magical inclinations, wanted to kill me, they could," Bertram revealed. "This is why I think you lied right at the start of the story: you didn't really investigate me, you tried to kill me and it failed. You heard directly from me that no-one else (other than Zachary with his claimed ability) visited me, so you knew no-one had protected me: therefore you assumed I had magic immunity."

She stiffened before relaxing, still glaring at Violet quietly. "Perhaps I am aware that I could die. But maybe you should also come to terms with the fact that you could die as well. Anyone could die, Violet. This isn't duck duck goose!"

Jacqueline seemed quite confused when Lucine spoke, her expression contorted into heavy thinking. "Is that so? To be honest, I didn't know they had already admitted to visiting Twilip. My apologies . . . I suppose I dozed off a little more than I should have." She let out a sigh. "I'll be sure to focus on what everyone is saying in the future."

Robin watched the confrontation between Violet and Jacqueline in nervous silence. She looked appalled at Zach's outburst, but made no comment. But Bertram's theory...

Robin gave Wyn a pained look. "I... I don't want to believe it, Wyn. I'm not trying to frame you. I just..." She looked down. "I don't know what to do."

“Here’s how I feel on the matter.” ‘Mickey’ briefly joined the discussion. “If I had Wyn’s power, I would shut up about it. Even if it meant dying [because we’d have other arcs to use it but there’s no way to say that but we all knew it at the time]. If I did reveal my role, I would not so callously reveal the roles of others. The only reason to do that... is to prove that you are telling the truth about your own role.”

He chuckled. “Something else has been bothering me. She’s been using her role as a shield this whole time. As if that alone is enough to extend her protection. But on all other matters, she is silent.”

"Fine, do it." Wyn huffs. "Let the witches have their victory and remove the one person who can investigate and verify their claimed abilities. When we all start again on page 1 of this curse you're going to be wishing you kept me around longer, darlings." She says, blowing a kiss. "Oh, and take a look at the people pushing so hard for my demise and ask yourselves why they're so eager for it..."

"I'd sooner trust Jackie than you. I believe her, so that means either you or Billy killed Twilip," Bertram said. "Of the two, I'm more inclined to believe you're a witch than him, even if it's only for various minor factors summing together. We don't have anything concrete on anyone yet, so I'd say you're the safest bet. I vote Wyn."

"I would have been quiet, but I was pressured into revealing what I knew to confirm my abilities to the others. I revealed Bertram's skills because I had to prove I was not a killer, and I partly revealed Maurice's because he asked me to. For James, it was because his abilities initially seemed suspicious before he elaborated on them and was confirmed to be innocent." Wyn pauses a moment to catch her breath. "For Twilip, you guys also wanted me to verify her claims so I revealed her ability out loud too. For Briggs, I will admit it was a personal choice to reveal my findings, [actually don't remember if someone asked me to discuss my findings for that night idk oh well] because it was bizarre and needed to be addressed."

"Do you still think I revealed all of this 'callously'? Or is there perhaps a context you are ignoring?" Wyn tuts.

"If - if Lucine is correct, and Twilip was killed by a witch, then there are only three possibilities. Wyn killed her, because she is the Golden Witch; Billy killed her, because he is the Golden Witch; or Jackie is lying, which points to Jackie being a witch whether she was the one who killed her or not. I'm almost certain Billy is not a witch. And - " Robin looked at her sisters-in-law, but couldn't bring herself to look either of them in the eye. "- it's possible for Jackie or Wyn to be witches, I think. But if I had to guess which one is more likely to be..."

She tilted her head back so she was looking at the ceiling, blinking back tears. "I don't want to do this..."

"Keep that smug attitude up, maybe I'll vote for you to seal the deal," Asher commented with a small, annoyed sigh. "... Hate to admit it, but I think Wyn is worth keeping around. Never thought I'd say that. But yeah. An investigator is a worthwhile thing to keep around. I just hope to god that you keep yourself useful, Wyn."

He cracked one of his knuckles and turned to the rest of the group.

"As for who to vote for... I, personally, believe Aunt Jackie to be more suspicious. She was quiet about her results until prompted to finally reveal them, and everyone she said visited Twilip had already confirmed she did so. I really don't want to vote, but if I must, my vote goes to Aunt Jackie. Wyn can probably figure out what Violet's role is anyway."

She squeezed her eyes shut. "I'm sorry, Basil."

Spoiler: Trigger Warning
Suicide

[THEME MUSIC]

Wyn's breath catches in her throat, her indignance fades, replaced by anxious silence.

In the darkness, Wyn can barely be seen, but she's undoubtedly thinking about the loss of her husband and now the loss of her own life. Her parents and siblings are across the ocean from her and she is going to die.

Her step-children both lurk in the shadows, not putting up much of a fight for her.

Bertram glances out towards the balcony, James and Basil still lay out there in the rain. It's the best place nearby for an execution though...

Wyn nods in understanding, before Bertram can speak.

She steps out to the balcony...

And jumps.

Everyone hears a familiar sound of something heavy crashing into the awning and then the ground.

Wyn is dead.

Asher solemnly looked down, an expression of regret and pain on his face.

"... Better hope she was a witch so her death was actually warranted and we didn't lose a good ally. And now I'm gonna die unless Mickey saves me. Great. You all voted in favor of it, sure, but it's only pragmatic because I can actually possibly help you all, and who knows if Mickey will stay true to his word anyway. ... Guess we'll have to find out. Hope you're all happy," he spat before storming off.

Jacqueline stared in horror as Wyn took her own life before she could be executed, tears already welling up in her eyes. No . . . it . . . it was between her or Wyn. Jacqueline or Wyn!! The other didn't deserve death, it should have been her!! It should have been Jacqueline who died!!

The woman pulled at her hair as tears streamed down her cheeks. "y-you fools . . . fools . . . f-fools . . . w-why!? why didn't you just!? W-WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST VOTE FOR ME!?" She choked out through her sobbing, clenching her eyes shut as she began to tremble.

Briggs looked at Jackie incredulously. "Are you saying you're a witch? Don't spew such nonsense."

"Well...then again...I'm not so sure that was the correct choice either," Briggs shrugged. "But beats lynching me, I guess. If Wyn is innocent, then either Billy or Jackie seems to be likely targets for us, next. Now then."

Briggs stretched outwards, then faced the others. "Guess you're all gonna gun for me, next. I don't think I'm totally in the clear yet. So before you can do that...I gotta find a good place to hide."

He sped quickly in one direction, bumping into Asher again, perhaps returning the bodybuilding magazine. But did he take something else in place of that????

"I hope I see you alive and well tomorrow!" Briggs called out as he ran away.

Asher immediately checked his pockets, and sure enough, the bodybuilding magazine was back.

"... Why's it all sticky?" he wondered aloud before a realization dawned on him. He didn't bother checking his other pockets.

"Yeah... Wish that could happen, but we all know that it won't," he muttered in response to Briggs's comment.

'Mickey' was somber at the deed they just committed, but somehow didn't feel as bad as he expected. It was like reading the personal experience in the tale had desensitized him from the amount of times this happened, which only made him feel worse. The past seven years he strove to be present. To recognize his emotions. Now? "I'm in a dream." He muttered loudly to nobody, looking at his hands. "It's like I'm watching myself. I can recognize myself. But I know it's not me. It's just how me perceives me." His head turned from his hands to the faces of the others. "I know I ain't who I was 12 hours ago. Before coming back to this nightmare."

"Don't worry, bro. I got this." 'Mickey' smiled and gave a thumbs up with unearned confidence, in a mood shift that could give whiplash.

Robin's eyes widened with realization as Wyn reached the balcony. She cried out to her, a wordless plea to stop, but it was too late.

Her hands flew to her mouth. She backed away, and she turned and stumbled and ran. She ran as hard as she could, stopping only to yank the front door open. She ran outside, around to where the balcony was looming above.

She found Wyn. The state of her was obvious, even in the dark and the heavy rain.

On shaky legs, Robin sank against the nearest object that could support her weight and hyperventilated.

"B-But Asher, before all this you were-" Zach stopped himself. Now was really not the time, and a pain in his heart filled him with guilt and regret. With a shaky voice, Zach cried, "I . . . went too far earlier. Way too far. Even if she is a witch - even the Golden Witch - Basil still loved her. I said something I can never take back, and now . . . now . . . " Zach slid down the wall he was closest to and wept. His family was being torn apart for the second time now, and even if he could later find solace that the Wyn that just died really was a witch, he would still weep for the real Wyn which may or may not have existed. Was his mind making up the 'replacement' theory? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, it's managing to keep him somewhat sane.

Hearing Jackie cry out in regret, Zach started to try to shout, "Jackie, ple-" before he choked up, tears streaming down his face. What could he tell her? What could he tell anyone? He considered the discussion that had happened earlier, with his theory that turned out to not be so sound. Was he just a burden? Was he just slowing the family down? He couldn't even help Robin. Wait - Robin? He looked around through blurry wet eyes and didn't see her in the darkness. He didn't have the energy to move, to go find her. He just collapsed, letting himself start to fade away. Some husband he is . . . .

Billy looked very depressed.

“I dunno, dudes,” he mumbled, “I thought I feel good about getting witch but this just leave bad taste in mouth. Someone that even worse than when Barty get shot outside. Ugh. People probably about to go after me next too. This not good at all.”

Billy headed toward the door but then stopped and turned toward the others.

“But remember everyone. Suicide is not solution to any problem, even when about to get executed for mass murder by old man. If you ever think about jumping off balcony, contact helpline at 1-800-273-8255 and speak with counselor. Because Billy would be sad to see beautiful person like you go.”

After dropping that important life lesson, he disappeared.

Jacqueline gently moved one of her fingers to be able to look at her daughter, a very sad smile making it's way to her face. "Oh Lucine . . . I know . . ." She said shakily, lowering her hands from her face completely as she stared down at the floor with terror in her eyes. So much terror that it could almost melt from her pupils . . . "If I am to die, then I . . . then I want to tell you that I love you, my little butterfly. I love you more than any flower could love the sunrise." She'd reach over and cup her daughter's face, tears still finding their way down her cheeks. "Do not mourn my death, my sweet . . . I only ever wish to see you happy. Your happiness is my happiness . . ." She closed her eyes. "I was never there for you . . . when you most needed me, sweetheart. My death won't make a difference. It will all be the same. Nothing will shift. Just another heart that has lost it's beat . . ."

Jacqueline turned her head as she saw Robin run out, feeling her legs move on their own accord. The sound of red heels clashing against the flooring. Her expression was filled with determination, her hair flying behind her as she ran after the blonde woman. She did, however, stop to look at the unconscious man on the ground before opening the doors to leave. "Zachary, I wish for you to take deep breaths you hear me? You can get through this. I know it may be hard, but nothing is going to reverse . . . we must deal with the present head on. Even if it means heart break." She nodded, not sure if he heard her or not before flinging the doors open and running out. How this lady is running in heels, the world may never know.

Once she caught up with Robin, she glanced at the body of Wyn with a very solemn expression. But it was okay to cry now . . . the rain would hide her sadness flawlessly. She found it quite hard to pull her gaze away from the sight but she managed to somehow, walking over to Robin and pulling the girl into an embrace. Something about this . . . gave her major Deja Vu.

"Robin, darling, it will all be okay . . . Close your eyes and only listen to the sound of the rain drops falling gently against the ground. You can even fall asleep if you wish to. Do anything you can to rid yourself of this sight." They were most likely getting soaked but Jacqueline didn't care. The weather wasn't going to stop her. Robin needed this comfort. In fact, everyone did. But, unfortunately, she could only do one thing at a time.

Robin clung to her friend like she would a life raft in a storm at sea. Jackie was speaking, but Robin couldn't hear it. Her voice was so far away. Everything was so far away. Every breath was a desperate struggle for air. Even though Jackie's body shielded Robin from the sight, Wyn's body was all she could see.

Her own rushing blood roared in Robin's ears, wretched, worthless thing.

"I-I..." she choked out. "I did this." The dam broke, and she had her voice again, and she began howling into Jackie's shoulder, into the oblivion. "I did this...!"

Bertram seemed quite disturbed by Wyn's manner of death, though not just because if how sobering it was. "The crash we heard back during the blackout... Was that us hearing Wyn jumping off the balcony?" he wondered aloud. "Such a thing wouldn't make sense, but now that I have to accept the existence of witches I'm not sure what to believe."

A frown appears on Violet's face as she looks outside the balcony, clearly at a loss for words. "It's a shame she'll go to Hell anyway. She should have atoned before jumping off, at the very least." She comments. "Or maybe even survived for just a little bit more."

Violet looks over to Asher storming off and balls up her first, muttering something to herself. Clearly frustrated, she leans on a nearby wall. "Tch, I should write a will while I can..."

"What on earth?!" Maurice shouted as Wyn jumped off. He stood in silence from the shock for a while until people started to leave... and also have emotional breakdowns.

"That was... not how I was expecting this to end, but... I'm still not sure if she's a witch or not. It could go either way, really", he murmured. "That said, this has really left me up the creek without a puddle... Now Wyn isn't here to help verify my role, and even if she was, it's not like she'd be taken at her word anymore", he sighed. "Still, I should mention I had no idea that Wyn would investigate me, it was a total coincidence. Plus, if we both were witches and she were colluding with me, it would be much easier to lie about my talent than to just be vague about it... And I believe my actions have lined up with what she has said so far... In fact, we both ended up dying together at the end of that tale, no? I feel that should exonerate at least one of us as a witch there."

With that, he turned around and started to leave. "For now though, I think it's best if we be careful... I sense next night might not go so well for us at this rate."

"There's something I want to mention," Bertram spoke up. "I don't know if it's a good idea but I want to at least put the idea forward. If we... If Mickey doesn't save Asher, and Lucine investigates him, we might find out if Briggs is really innocent or not. He may be using a 'mortal' power to kill people with, but if he himself is a witch, Lucine might be able to detect that."

"That makes sense. In the event that Mickey does not save... my brother, we have little reason not to lynch him." Violet nods. "I sincerely hope it doesn't get to that point, though..."

"Ah, you misunderstand. My point is that if we intentionally let Asher die, we can try to learn something from his death. If we save him we don't learn anything new," Bertram elaborated. "It's a cruel thought, but I believed it best we were all at least aware of the possibility."

Violet frowns, "So cruel, in fact, that I don't think we should even consider it."

‘Mickey’ nodded at his father to at the very least indicate he heard him and understood.

“We did vote, didn’t we? Do I really seem like the kind of guy to just ignore what people want of me?” Seems like he wanted to leave his intentions ambiguous, but he did look expectantly at Lucine.

"Brother, the last time I trusted you you took money to abandon me to a life you knew very well was miserable." Lucine elucidated. "... I am not opposed to this test. I could try to investigate someone else Mr. Briggs poisoned."

For the allegedly dignified heir to the Moonview family and resident creepy child, Lucine made a very undignified sound that was something between a scream of terror and a gasp of surprise as she jumped nearly a feet away from Briggs.
