Spoiler: 1. Washrooms
Yang makes another announcement.

“Round 3 will soon end. The Prisoners can now safely use the Water Key.”

Fujisaki steps through the door out of the dungeon, clasping the Water Key in his hands. He stands in the doorway, taking weary breaths.

“The drive has a text file on it,” Fujisaki explains, “With a code for the manhole.”

He walks over to the center of the room and stoops by the manhole. He types in the code using a small keypad and then turns the wheel on its surface. The manhole unlocks, and Fujisaki pulls it out and places it on the floor. Beneath it he discovers a hole leading to a pipe with water running down the bottom.

Fujisaki turns to Suyin, still lying handcuffed on the floor.

“We will do what we can,” he simply remarks, “Now let’s go, Mei.”

Mei nods sluggishly. She stands up, pausing to look at Taikong one last time, and then follows Fujisaki to the manhole.

Without a word, Fujisaki sticks his feet in the pipe and pushes himself down. He slides straight down the pipe and falls out into a stream of water. He thrashes about in the current until he finds a ledge near the wall to grab onto. Hosting himself up, Fujisaki discovers an ancient sewer system, built out of cracked stone.

He gazes down the tunnel and spots a ladder in the distance. Faint light shines down from above…

Spoiler: 2. Outside
Fujisaki climbs out of a new manhole, then turns to give Mei a hand. The nurse follows him up, discovering a small concrete building. She pushes open the door, revealing an ashen wasteland. Some kind of palace looms in the distance.

“That must be where we came from,” Mei mumbles, “It doesn’t have a right to look that beautiful, frankly.”

Fujisaki lingers by the manhole, pulling an invisible form out, then follows Mei outside.

“We’re out, but we need to get moving,” he says, “No telling how close civilization is. We might even be in no man’s land.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Mei says, “I just…can’t believe only two of us made it out.”

“You mean three,” Fujisaki says.

Fujisaki turns to his left, where only the empty landscape lay—

She stands against the fading light, her green dress and black hair fluttering in the breeze. The stump where her arm used to be adds a touch of red to her outfit. She turns to Fujisaki and smiles warmly.

“We did it, Hiroyuki. We’re free.”

“I’m sorry you got caught up in this mess,” Fujisaki replies, “I should have shot Mao at the ceremony when I had the chance. I should have killed him so many times…Maybe then you’d still have your arm.”

“Really, I don’t mind. At least it’s something we have in common, right?”

“Of course, you’re right, Isuzu. Now let’s get out of here.”

The two stare into each other’s eyes, enjoying their first moment of peace together at last.

“Can you stop mumbling weird shit over there?” Mei asks politely.

Spoiler: 3. Military Base, Interrogation Room
Bright lights turn on, casting their glare over Fujisaki’s face. Unfazed thanks to his sunglasses, he smiles at the blonde man in a military uniform who walks into the room and sits across from him.

“Well, chop off my head and call me a chicken!” the man shouts, a stupid grin on his face. “If it ain’t ol’ Hiroyuki. Been quite a spell since you dropped by our base. What brings you here?”

Fujisaki reaches out and shakes the man’s hand.

“General Williamson,” Fujisaki says, speaking in slow careful English. “Sorry, I don’t understand.”

“Oh, right, excuse me!” the general says, glancing frantically around the hill. “I forget there’s still people who speak those weird picture languages. Where’d the got-dang translator get off to?”

Once the base’s resident Japanese translator is found, the conversation resumes. Were it not for the sound of bombshells in the distance, the scene would resemble two old friends meeting at a cafe.

“So, like I was fixin’ to say,” Williamson begins, “What brings you here? I hope my men weren’t too rough when they picked you up. Most folks who look like you ain’t that trustworthy though.”

“I’m looking for safe passage into Japan,” Fujisaki explains, ignoring the casual racism. “I thought, since we worked so close together in the past, you might be willing to help me.”

“Sure, I can pull some strings,” Williamson says, nodding. “But to be honest, I’ve missed your assistance quite a bit. You were an absolute beast on the battlefield! I reckon with your help we could finish up this war lickety-split!”

Fujisaki chuckles then levels an icy glare at the general.

“There are battalions in Japan,” Fujisaki says, “I would rather return home.”

“What guarantee do I have that you’ll join those battalions?”

“I am not an American,” Fujisaki says, “Do not draft me. You were lucky I was ever on your side.”

The general lets out an uncomfortable laugh.

“Hoo-ey! It’s gettin’ a bit steamy in here,” he says, pulling at his collar. “Well, alright. If that’s what you want, I’ll get you shipped out of here. I’m actually sending some supplies back this afternoon, if you want to hop aboard.”

“Is there room for two?”

Spoiler: 4. Supply Plane
Fujisaki stares out the window at the Japanese countryside passing below him. It’s been years since he last saw Tokyo’s gleaming skyscrapers, the pink glow of the cherry blossom trees, and the snow-peaked mountains. Now he’s finally going back, his life’s goal seen through and his most cherished companion in tow.

Isuzu sits next to him, gazing out the window as well. Despite everything, she seems tired—almost faded.

“I’m so proud of you, Hiro,” she says, leaning against Fujisaki and wrapping her arm around him.

“It’s all for you, dear.”

“What are you going to do?” Isuzu asks, “Now that he’s gone.”

Fujisaki’s brow furrows as he considers the question.

“I haven’t really thought about it,” he mumbles, “The yakuza won’t want me back…but I’m not sure I could survive as just a salaryman.”

Isuzu chuckles lightly.

“I don’t think you’d be bad at it. I’ve heard corporate politics can feel like a war.”

“I suppose so. But really, I just want to enjoy the time I have with you.”

Fujisaki kisses Isuzu on the cheek and runs his fingers through her long black hair. She continues to stare ahead, not even her lips twisting under her husband’s touch.

“When we land, there’s somewhere I’d like to go.”

“And where would that be?”

“Home.”

Spoiler: 5. Old Barn
“Why did you want to come back here?” Fujisaki asks, a katana strapped over his back.

Isuzu turns to her husband and gives him a faint smile.

“Because this is where it all began.”

Fujisaki walks through a tall, vibrant corn field to reach a rotting and corroded wooden barn. He pauses as they pass a small hole in the wall—a tiny mark that prompted decades of bloodshed.

“I hate being here. It makes me feel sick.”

“I know. I can still feel the sting in my neck, even after all these years.”

One of the barn doors has fallen onto the ground. Fujisaki steps across it and enters the building.

The inside of the barn is empty and coated in dust. Even the grass on the floor has faded with time; however, a fresh bouquet of flowers has been laid on the other side below a small table.

“Hmm? What is this?”

On top of the table are faded mementos of a young Japanese girl: an old kite, a jade hairpin, a childish doodle of a snake, and some faded photographs. Despite the passage of time, they remain here as a testament to their owner’s existence.

“Isuzu, that’s you in these photographs…but why would they be here?”

Tears form on Isuzu’s face as she gazes solemnly at the memorial. She reaches out, wrapping her hand around Fujisaki’s.

“This is where…I died.”

“What?” Fujisaki shouts, “Don’t start saying things like that!”

“But it’s true, Hiro,” Isuzu replies, “I’m just a vengeful spirit who’s been driving you mad—and my vengeance has been served. Now I’m starting to realize just how…pointless it was. I’m no closer to getting my reality back.”

“What do you mean?” Fujisaki asks, “We’ve got each other. Isn’t that enough?”

“It’s not. I want something else. I want freedom…for both of us.”

“How can I get you that?” Fujisaki asks, “You know I’d give you anything you wanted, dear.”

Isuzu turns to Hiroyuki with cold resolve in her eyes.

“Take your katana and end me.”

“What?!” Fujisaki roars, “How could you expect me to do that?”

“It’s the only thing that will end my misery,” Isuzu explains, “I’m just a corpse on life support, Hiro. I’ve been dragging you down for years. I want you to forget about me. I want you to live a life without me—with someone real, but you can’t do that as long as I’m here.”

“You…” Fujisaki trails off, sensing the depth of her emotion. “How long have you felt like this?”

“For years,” Isuzu explains, “But once Mao was gone, I knew I couldn’t stand living this way anymore, and neither should you.”

“There must be something else I can do to make it better. After everything we went through, it can’t just end like this.”

“I don’t want your help anymore,” Isuzu snaps “Heaven knows I don’t deserve it. I just want to sleep in peace.”

Fujisaki sees his wife in a different light. The way her eyes have faded remind him of a body without a soul, but the way her flesh seems to drift apart at the seams reminds him of a soul without a body.

Fujisaki doesn’t know which it is, but he knows neither is the girl he knew as a child.

Isuzu lays a kiss on Hiroyuki’s lips.

“Just hold the katana out for me. I’ll do the rest.”

Fujisaki wraps his wife in a final embrace, and then he takes the katana off his back and holds it out, pointed diagonally upward from the ground.

“I’ll never forget you, Isuzu.”

Isuzu runs her fingers up the blade of the katana. She presses the tip against her chest and smiles at her husband one last time.

“I love you too. Never forget: you were my hero.”

She collapses onto the blade, which bursts straight through her stomach—

The katana collapses uselessly to the floor, its blade clean of any touch of crimson. Fujisaki remains, staring at the floor where it lies, until not even he could see his beloved’s body.

She’s gone…or maybe she was never really there.

Fujisaki turns, leaving the katana behind. He punches a hole straight through the wall, and lets out a cry through the air, like a rooster crowing for the dawn of a new day or perhaps the end of an old one.

Spoiler: ???
An aged Chinese woman picks up a history textbook. She cradles it in her arms as she looks out at a class of bright-eyed students.

“Today, class,” she begins hesitantly, “We will begin our unit on the Third World War.”

The class breaks out in collective murmuring.

“I know this might be a difficult subject,” the teacher says, “But it’s part of China’s history, rather we like it or not. Now, can anyone tell me what prompted the war?”

A hand raises near the middle of the class.

“Someone blew up the stadium in Beijing, right?”

“Exactly,” the teacher says, “Benedict Clarkson…that was the English ambassador who died in the blast. The perpetrator was one of our own, Mao Delan. He was an ambassador and General.”

“Teacher?” One of the kid’s raises his hands, “Why would a Chinese general try to kill his own people?”

“Well, no one is sure why he did it,” the teacher continues, “And now that Mao’s vanished, we might never know. As corrupt as he turned out to be, his disappearance might have lost us the war.”

“My mom says my dad disappeared too,” another kid says, “Are he and Mao in the same place? How do I get to them?”

“Why’d we even do all this?” A kid at the front says, “Couldn’t we have figured this out without all these people getting hurt?”

“How could somebody like Mao exist?” A kid in the back asks, “How could he do so many bad things and get away with it for so long? I thought bad people were supposed to get punished?”

“I miss my mommy. Why’d the Americans take away my mommy?”

The teacher stares at the crowd of chattering students, all with eyes much too old for their bodies. She tightly grips the textbook in her hands, trying to focus on the world spinning under her feet.

She knows that she doesn’t have the answers to their questions, because they were the same ones she gave up on asking long ago.

Spoiler: Catch-Up
Everybody drained Fujisaki so bad that his wife got uploaded to the matrix. He wasn’t too happy about that and started attacking with dangerous weapons, driving the group back to the Armory.

In the midst of the discussion, Mao slams his fist against the wall with newfound resolve.

“We can’t risk letting Sunny fall into Fujisaki’s hands,” Mao said.

“I’m…actually, I’m with you, sir,” Taikong shouts, “Everyone with combat training should arm up. We know Fujisaki won’t hesitate to kill us.”

“Not just those with combat training!” Mao shouts, “Everyone should arm themselves! We’ll take the fight to him!”

“No, I’m needed here,” Amandi replies, “Mei is, as well. We need to look after the wounded.”

“Whatever you do, could you just do it quickly?” Monk says, letting out a wheeze as he pushes himself off his bed. “Fujisaki’s got those grenades. It’s not a good idea to be grouped together like this.”

Mao nods.

“Good point,” he says, “You all stay here. Taikong can guard you. That leaves Suyin, Juanli, and Amethyst to join me in the strike team.”

“But Mr. Mao,” Juanli says, “I don’t have any combat experience!”

“Well consider yourself drafted,” Mao replies, “You want to keep your son safe, don’t you?”

“Well…yes, of course.”

“Then you’ll need to do your part,” Mao says, “Now let’s move!”

The strike team all pick up whichever weapons suit their fancy. Mao makes sure to grab the rocket launcher and leads the way. Taikong stays behind, armed with a pistol, and carefully eyes either side of the hallway. Meanwhile, Mei and Amandi keep looking after the two wounded players.

Mao stops running as the group approaches the foyer. He holds out a hand to block the others and peeks around the corner.

Warm flames burn in the fireplace. The door to the research lab remains collapsed. Up the stairs to the right, the group can hear faint noises. They appear to be coming from the Treasury…

"What's out there?" Amethyst whispered, stubbornly trying to angle her head so she could see past the corner without passing Mao's arm. She nervously held a pistol in her hands. "Is it him? What do we do?"

Juanli peeked her head out around the corner right under Amethyst's. She's somehow gotten hold of an ornamental (but functional) Qiang spear and held it tightly with trembling hands. "I don't know..." she whispered looking down the corridor. She looked back to Mao "W-what should we do General?"

Suyin holds an assault rifle as she pokes her head around the corner as well.

"We shoot the bastard!" Suyin yells at her sister. "That's what we do!"

“I will go ahead.” Mao decided, fashioning some kind of mirror stick with either one of Suyin or Juanli’s items. “I’ll check if Fujisaki is up those stairs. Maybe smoke him out.” He displayed a smoke bomb on his belt.

“Very important, but none of you must fire until you have a clear look at your target. And when you pull that trigger, you always, always shoot to kill.” He lectured. “Stay back for now. I’ll motion if you should follow.”

He headed closer to the Treasury, not entering it.

As Mao headed towards the Treasury, the group in the Armoury could hear a strange rumbling.

One of the vents in the Armoury bursts open! Something delicately rolls out... and smoke rapidly brings to fill the room.

Suddenly, Fujisaki emerges from the vent, pistol in hand. He fires rapidly, though his aim is off due to all the smoke in the room. Unsure if he hit anyone, he grunts and curses in Japanese, and begins to look for the person in the Armoury closest to him, hoping he can catch someone in the smoke before they can flee the room.

"Fuck!" Sun Taikong yelled at the sudden commotion behind him. He span around and quickly analysed the situation, unable to pinpoint Fujisaki's position by sound due to the gunshots echoing so much in the small room. Unwilling to fire inside in case he hit anyone else, he instead shot out into the hallway a few times, hoping to get a response. He figured Fujisaki would be unable to tell what he was shooting at either way. "Come out and fight me, Fujisaki! This won't end well for you if you think you can just ignore a trained soldier!"

"Oh, fuck!" Mei echoes, reflexively hitting the deck as fast as she can. She hastily looks around for the source, but only ends up coughing into a hand due to the smoke. A bullet grazes her pant leg, which she hisses in pain at, but otherwise she remains on the ground for the time being.

"Fuck!" Dr. Uwem shouted as the smoke filled the armoury. "Why did we forget about the vent in here?!" The doctor threw himself to the floor.

However, while he was diving for the floor, a bullet grazed him on a arm, causing him to let out a wince of pain. He remains on the floor for the time being. Due to the smoke, Dr. Uwem couldn't tell where it was coming from.

The smoke fills the room and begins sinking to the floor. The hapless medics probably need to get out, especially with Fujisaki looming behind them.

As smoke fills the room, X doesn’t make any attempt to flee, on the contrary, the gunshots beckon her toward the intruder. Even hobbled by her injury, she creeps through the smoke with no hint of fear.

The moment Fujisaki feels her presence near him in the smoke is the moment she strikes, jumping onto him, pulling at his hair, and putting him off balance.

He can feel her hands wrestling to grab a weapon, or worse, an explosive from him. Given the chance, X might be willing to use a grande in this situation.

Fujisaki grunts and struggles with X on his back. He swings around violently in an attempt to shake her off, by coincidence towards the exit of the Armoury, where Taikong was.

"Get off of me!" He shouts.

Knowing that he'll have to leave the injured behind as his life is on the line, especially with Fujisaki in the same room with them, Dr. Uwem looks to X and Monk with a look of regret.

Then the doctor started crawling towards the exit, hoping he can get to safety before the mad man get him. Of course, with just one usable arm, the crawl towards safety poses a great challenge for the doctor. Nonetheless, he kept crawling towards the exit.

Sadly Monk wasn't as lucky as the others. Two of the bullets Fujisaki fired both passed through his heart, drawing out a butt-ton of blood onto the floor. He fell to the floor, instantly fuckin' dead.

Oh well, we all can't be winners, right guys?

Fujisaki manages to hurl X off of his by doing a cool one-armed wrestling move. She collided into her own gurney, sending it sliding toward the entrance. Amandi manages to stand up by placing one hand on the entryway and then leaps onto the gurney. He starts riding it down the hallway like a massive skateboard.

Dr. Uwem lets out a sigh of relief as he rids the gurney down the hallway away from danger. X actually helped him get away to safety? This came as a complete surprise to the doctor, indeed.

Dr. Uwem looks up to see where the gurney was taking him to. He knew that the strike group doesn't know that Fujisaki is attacking the armory right now...

As Amandi shot out of the room on a gurney, Sun Taikong's pistol whipped up to track him, until he realised what he was seeing. He gaped for a moment before quickly returning to his original position so he could be ready for Fujisaki. Amandi might have seen a very focused look in Taikong's eyes as they passed each other: he was in his element now.

“He isn’t there.” Mao announced to the others as he looked at the reflection into the treasury. “I’ll lead the way looking for tripwires.”

Silently Mao chuckled to himself. It was too easy—Fujisaki must truly be an idiot.

"Where is he though?" Amethyst followed after Mao, anxiously keeping her pistol raised and displaying remarkably lax trigger discipline. "You'd think the guy hunting us down would be easier to find."

Mao stepped inside the treasury. He had already searched in here before, so it was easy enough to do a quick sweep.

“He’s not here.” Mao growled. “Maybe he’s at the research lab?” He seemed quite unsure of this.

Suyin, Juanli, Amethyst, and Mao carefully continue their search of the Treasury. Amethyst eventually loses interest and walks out of the foyer, heading for the Royal Bedroom. Right after she passes through the Meridian Gate, it’s red light turns a deep black.

“Oops. Looks like I missed one. Haha. Ha,” Yin says, appearing on the monitor in the Treasury.

“Huh? Yin? Did you do that?” Suyin shouts.

She doesn’t respond—only flashes a knowing grin and disappears.

The three rush to the door and stare at Amethyst through the Afterlife Gate. There was no way out.

Meanwhile, outside the Armory, Amandi drifts down the corridor, grinding off the wall as he passes around corners. Mei runs out of the room, reuniting with Taikong. The two glance back into the Armory.

They see Fujisaki standing in the smoke, aiming a gun toward the floor. He fires three shots, and blood flashed into the air. The smoke fades for a moment, revealing X’s body on the floor.

Fujisaki looks up and raises his gun at Mei. Taikong grabs her by the hand and starts sprinting down the hall, dragging her behind him as a hail of bullets strike the wall where she was standing.

Fujisaki leaks off the gurney as he enters the foyer. The cart keeps going, crashing into the wall with a clang. The others continue racing down the hallway.

[Everyone supposed to head downstairs for now. Well other than Amethyst she can do whatever she wants I don’t really care.]

“That little Nip-!” Mao stopped his outburst short. No matter the weapons he had, the afterlife gate made him completely powerless. Perhaps he could fire his RPG at the gate, but he had a feeling of intuition that that wouldn’t end well.

Dr. Uwem looks like he's having the time of his life, but deep down inside... He knew that he shouldn't be enjoying this ride as he's still in danger. Evidently, the gurney, that he was riding on, crashed into the wall. Due to Newton's third law of motion, the doctor was thrown off the gurney.

"Ow... Of course, Newton's third law of motion..." The doctor mumbles to himself as he used the gurney as a support while he get up onto his feet. Other than the possible bruises that he might have sustained in the crash and the graze on his arm, the doctor was fine. He looks over to where Amethyst is. She was standing outside the treasury. The gate to the treasury was now a Afterlife Gate. Dr. Uwem knew right away what happened.

"Shit, Yin trapped most of the strike group inside the treasury?!" Dr. Uwem asked, but he knew that he shouldn't waste time. Safety first, questions later. Quickly as he did, the doctor made his way downstairs. He prayed that the others will catch up with him.

Juanli uttered a small "Eep" as the door effectively locked them in. "W-what can we do now General? There's nothing that said the gate should have done that." she looked around the treasury hoping to find another way out.

“It’s that new-fangled computer woman.” Mao sighed. “Luckily we’re in a good position should Fujisaki appear—I can keep guard by the doorway. Unluckily I fear him and this woman are working together, so he’s more likely to go after the others than come here.”

He frowned, “Our only hope is finding another exit in this room, but we already searched this place thoroughly.”

Juanli nodded eagerly, clearly in awe at Mao's radiance and authority in this time of crisis. "Y-yes, you're right General. This place is easy to defend I suppose" she gripped her spear tightly and took a deep breath.

"B-but it'd still be nice if we could find a way out or else we'll be stuck here." she turned to called to Amethyst outside the gate "Miss Amethyst, you're good with computers right? D-do you think you could do something with Miss Yin to activate our gate or another way out?"

"Mei, get down to the basement! We can hold him off better down there. I'm going to go look for the strike team," Sun Taikong said. Hearing noises from up on the balcony, he hurried to the Treasury, only to stop short when he saw an Afterlife Gate in the way. "Dammit! Are you all okay in there?" he called through the gate, glancing at the nearby Amethyst to check she was okay too.

The medic stops in her tracks to object, "You want me to --"

Mei then stops herself, realising it's not the time. Nodding to Taikong in affirmation, she says, "Alright. Stay safe!", before heading off towards the basement in a hurry.

"Yin can just do this?!" Amethyst yelled, still taking a moment to get over the shock of missing this gate by barely a minute. What also took barely a minute was for her to notice Taikong. "... Oh. Oh, he went to the armory..."

"... I can't do anything without a terminal, but if I found one and Yin is the same as Yang, I have a hunch I could try something with Wonseog's code..." she answered.

Sun Taikong nodded. "Through the vent. Should've seen it coming, but I guess we all figured he'd struggle to get through when carrying all those weapons. He... got Monk and X," he summarised, pausing to look aside in shame. "We're regrouping in the basement now," he then concluded, lowering his voice in case Fujisaki could somehow hear them.

Mao nodded at Taikong. “I trust things in your capable hands. But it’s dangerous to go alone, so take this.” He slid the RPG to Taikong through the gate.

Sun Taikong raised the RPG high in acknowledgement. "Thank you, sir! Good luck here too. This doorway makes a good chokepoint, and I don't think there's any way for him to sneak in like with the research room. Should be a good place to hold out in." He then took off back down to the lower level, not wanting to waste any more precious time. Hopefully Amethyst would follow.

Amethyst followed after Taikong because honestly I don't have any more ideas for this. Maybe she also tells Mao he reeks of old man right before leaving.

After telling Mao he reeks of old man, Amethyst follows Taikong and Mei down the stairs to the rubble-strewn basement. They discover Amandi already there, looking around the room.

“I think there’s a room over here that we haven’t gotten a closer look at,” Amandi says, “Follow me.”

Taikong nods his head toward the stairwell.

“I’ll stay over here and guard us,” he says, “You all can look around in there. I’ll try to be more vigilant this time.”

Amethyst nods and joins Amandi. Mei hesitantly follows them as well.

Navigating through the rubble, Amandi leads the group to a small door on the left side of the back wall. It currently sits ajar, revealing a short hallway leading to an open doorway inside. The corridor is completely grey, with no expenses made on beautifying it.

As the group enters the room beyond, they find it similarly barren. The walls are cold steel, devoid of any personality. A reinforced door lies in a mangled heap in the middle of the room. A pathetically small bedroll is against the far wall. There are no windows or decorations, aside from some floodlights in the ceiling.

A small computer is plugged into the wall, with a keyboard trailing in front. It seems to be in sleep mode at the moment.

[Only the group in the basement may post for now. Taikong can still communicate with the others because he is a good yeller.]

Mei takes a short look around. "Geez, this place is creepy," she comments, making her way over to the bedroll to check under it. At the same time, she calls out to Amethyst, "That computer's your calling, probably."
