Mh... okay, opposite wasn't the right word. It is similar to that.
One quick statement done by a character, some people take that as a sign that they love that character.
One quick statement done by a character, some people take that as a a sign that they are gay for that character, similar to thinking that they love that character.
Whoa, I don't remember what time I wrote that post, so it probably didn't make much sense...
It's basically fans jumping to a conclusion, without "real" evidence for it.

Maybe she meant that Grell feels like a woman? Someone doesn't have to pass through surgery to be a transgender, you know. They simply have to feel like the opposite gender. And if I'm not mistaken, he referred to himself as a girl in that first battle with Sebastian.

Well then why doesn't she just say that?
And no, I do not think that you can call someone a "transgender" if they simply identify themselves as the opposite gender. (That's like saying Naoto from Persona 4 is a Transgender... man that video annoyed me when they listed Naoto... all Naoto is doing is crossdressing!) Grell wishing that or feeling like he was a woman, that is understandable, that is how he acts sometimes.
As for referring to himself as a girl...? I read that part of the manga two or three times by now, but I can't really remember a part where he openly referred to himself as a woman. He did make an analogy between Sebastian and himself as Romeo and Juliette, respectively, but that is just plain fantasy.
Well, he does say something about hitting a maiden's face but... again, I don't see that as a "transgender" comment, I just see that as a comment done by Grell, who strikes me as an openly gay guy and says weird things at times.

I make comments about my strong, hairy mental balls, but that doesn't mean I am transgendered or wish I was a guy.

Indeed, but in games where I think of every male character as gay, I have stated several times that I do it to make the game - which may be lackluster, but not so bad that it'll stop me from playing - a bit more entertaining for me.
And yaoi pairings in, like, manga or anime I support I generally have some evidence for it. Except for Gui and Prince in Half Prince, but that is a whooooole other case of "Is that really yaoi?"

Persona 3, for example, I tried looking at all the male text to be hints for homosexuality and all that, yet the game has bored me so much that I doubt I will play it again. Sole reason why I may play it again, after two playthroughs where I basically forced myself to finish, is to unlock an event that I stumbled recently upon.

Spoiler: Persona 3 Spoiler
I can revive Chidori? That is absolutely stupid, especially since the giant message of The Answer is that reviving certain people is bad...! Reviving HER is okay but the protagonist is a No-No. Junpei will never become a better character if we keep giving into his moods and reviving his dead not-really-girlfriend.

I only stumbled on it by accident on TV Tropes and I asked on the P3P forum.
After the November events... was it November... anyhow, after said event, you have to talk to Junpei a lot in the evenings, when he's standing in the lobby, and answer just the right way and then it'll work. I didn't do it and I am not sure if I want to play P3P again just to get that scene late in the game.

What is a "transgender", then?

Well after reading chapter 11 I can't deny that he strikes me as the kind of guy that would like to be in a woman's body. And I can't remember if he said "maid" or "young girl", but whatever.
Really, whether he is a transgender or a "weird queer", does it make much of a difference? It's not like we can call him and ask "Hey, Grell, are you a transgender or just an openly gay guy who wishes that he could have a womb, likes to use heels and making analogies about Romeo and Juliet?"
It's open to interpretation, though if you are somehow criticizing the fact that the vast majority of autors are reluctant to admit when a character is simply gay, I get your point.

If you have a PS2 and like RPG, you HAVE to play Persona 3 and 4, though I recommend starting with P4.
EDIT:...(P4 is M rated, wait, but why???)
EDIT2: P3 is M rated too. What the hell?

RE:EDIT1: Alcohol Reference, Animated Blood, Language, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, Violence

Sometimes, certain things are more than others, like if there wasn't Partial nudity or Sexual themes, it'd be a T game, but both those automatically make it M.

RE:EDIT2: Blood, Language, Partial Nudity, Violence

I'm gonna guess Partial Nudity made the M rating...
EDIT: Apparently, P3 was rated 'B' in Japan (12 and up)
What the heck, guys!

If the same ratings system can give Phoenix Wright and Grand Theft Auto the same Mature rating, yet give gory adventure games like Snatcher a Teen rating; then you know something's wrong. It only demonstrates why I hate these guys.

The ESRB can't even get the Sexual Themes descriptor right. In the original Metal Gear Solid, one of the reasons that it's rated M is because of "Mature Sexual Themes." Apparently, talking about biology, genes, and reproduction (completely not meant to be arousing) counts as that. I highly doubt that Persona has any graphic sexuality.

Persona 3 is M Rated as the battle system involves teenagers, and even a pre-teen, aiming guns at their heads and shooting. Although it is explained that they are not actually "real" guns and won't injure themselves. The game also heavily deals with a theme of Death. And there is a moment where you go into a Love Hotel, but nothing happens. Also, some of the Persona designs are very demonic and naked.

Persona 4 doesn't have that much of an excuse. While it still has the Persona designs, it is overall a very upbeat game. The story is much lighter and easier to digest than Persona 3. The only moment I can think of that is "risque" is one of the Shadow bosses that is basically a large, technicolor swirly-pattern woman rubbing her squishy crotch against a pole.
But that part takes about 5 minutes and isn't constant, so it's not that "bad".

If your parents are worried about M games, Persona 4 is one I would say they should let you play. The game overall does not deserve an M rating. And that one scene I mentioned is not that bad, seriously. It's a boss battle and for the most part you could just laugh at it.

Mhhh..... Only nudity that was semi-sexual was in Persona 3 at the love hotel. And even there, all it did was give us a close up of Yukari's face and her shoulder... maybe her stomach, too. But otherwise, no, not really any graphic genitalia or so.

You do realize that the Batman Arkham games and the Uncharted series have more graphic violence than Persona, though.

Really, the main problem is that there's no in-between rating in the middle of T and M. The Japanese CERO system has C (15+), the British PEGI system has (16+), and the Australian system has (M15+). On the other hand, the ESRB has nothing in between T (13+) and M (17+). That's a pretty large gap in comparison to the other systems.

-That'd explain it...

-Haha, after seeing the 2BFP of it...yeah. Ah, that's a weird boss design...hmmm...*search*(Shadow rise)...
:nick-sweat:
...Hmmm...uh....yeah...um...that'd do it...of course, it's a weird one...but it's an optional boss, so I don't have to fight it.

I still have no idea how I'd get it past mah parents...even if I expained it, it doesn't matter, they won't go for it. So...back to square one...oh, I don't have a vita, so I can't get it digitally...

All my video game consoles are in my basement, so it's not like my mother checks the games that I'm playing. Also, I buy all my games with my own money and they go straight into a drawer where I put all of them in. Nobody uses that drawer besides me. Also, the store I go to doesn't have age restrictions. I've had no problems buying M games from them.

Yes, I'm referring to Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. Like it's predecessor 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors; it's rated M for Mature. But in Japan, both games are rated C (15+).

Really, I don't buy games just because they happen to be rated M. That's basically the last thing that I think about. And in terms of what Mature video game that I own which has the most "adult" content, it's a toss-up between L.A. Noire and Red Dead Redemption. Still, I play as the good guy in both games and don't do any villainous acts. Also, I consider myself to be very mature. I understand what I'm playing, I understand it's fiction, and I understand what the developers are trying to say with each of their games. So I personally have no problems playing Mature games. I hope things work out for you.

Hah, even though my room is downstairs, I don't have a tv down here, so I can't play my games, so I play them in my living room, on a giant 55 inch tv facing back so if you're standing in the dining room, you can see...I wish I had a tv in here...oh well.

No age restriction!?!!! Lucky...

It's the same with me, I play games because they're fun, I don't think a rating should limit that, I understand it's just a form of entertainment, like a book, movie, show, etc. There are a ton of games that I want to play but can't due to outdated ratings and unworthy ratings. Outdated ratings? I mean Resident Evil 1 or 2, which say "This game has intense scenes of explicit violence and gore" But really, that was 1996, its just a bunch of red pixels nowadays. Unworthy ratings? I mean MGS, SMG:P4, SC:DA, etc.

Well, I can't escape this, because when I go out to get games, it's with my Mom, and she'll check what I'm getting...so...I'm outta luck, but she doesn't mind if it's a gift, I don't think. Or if I ask for a game, I could just give her the name, and she'll get it because it's like "I have no idea what this is, but he wants it, okay!"

Anyway, T rated games on PS1, PS2, Wii?

Have you played Okami, Xenoblade Chronicles, or The Last Story? They're amazing adventure games/RPGs.

I've also hacked my Wii to run various emulators as well.

No.
No.
No.

I've heard that they're great. I've also heard they're expensive and rare as all hell because they were some of the last games made for the Wii.

I don't need emulators on my Wii, I have a tablet (android).

So, PS1, PS2, Wii.

EDIT:
Xenoblade chronicles: almost a hundred bucks for a new copy.
Last story: 30 bucks
Pandora's Tower: 20 bucks.
Yikes.

EDIT2: Also, do you have a steam account? It'd make chatting easier.

Well, there are some good T-rated RPGs for the PS2. I'd recommend Final Fantasy X (though it is not the best title of FF...), Disgaea (my personal favorite), Kingdom Hearts (which you have already played) and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. (And Okami is amazing too as an adventure game, but TopHatProfessor already recommended it to you)

Now that I think about it, since I was 14, my mother never tried to limit my access to any kind of entertainment. I don't know if its good or bad though, maybe she trusted me because I never did like much extremely violent movies and games (with RE and SH as exceptions, but I first played those when I was 15)
Anyways, that rating system is necessary, but flawed. Most of 15-year-olds out there can perfectly play Persona 3 without being surprised by any theme that the game deals with...

FFX: Meh, I don't think I could listen to Tidus' voice for the entire game.
Disgaea: Meh, I don't like the style, I don't play strat. RPGs.
KH: Yes.
Star Ocean: Meh, not a huge fan.
Okami: Possible

I like JRPGs, as long as it's not just... "J"
FPS games on consoles are bleh, MaK ATW!

Ahaha! Ahahaha! ....I don't blame you. Although I find his personality and all-round character to be more annoying than his voice. James Arnold Taylor just helped it along. Although Morita didn't do a great job himself, but I'll cut him some slack since that was his debut role...

I would also suggest Final Fantasy for the games, but as far as I know, there isn't one for Wii. Games I'd suggest, though, would be the Tales Of games. The PS2 has Tales of the Abyss - although that has a port for the 3DS that improved a few small things, I think Tales of Legendia... but I don't know about that game, I haven't played it and I know people complain about it.
Mh... those are the only two PS2 titles I can think of, the rest haven't been brought out on the western market. On the PS1 is Tales of Destiny, I know that. I played it a bit and it was fun enough. For the Wii... *sigh* ... I guess you can try out Knight of Ratatosk (brought out as Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World) ... I personally didn't like it, but if you haven't played a Tales Of game beforehand, you might enjoy it a lot more than I did.

Do you have any handhelds?

Ahaha! Ahahaha! ....I don't blame you. Although I find his personality and all-round character to be more annoying than his voice. James Arnold Taylor just helped it along. Although Morita didn't do a great job himself, but I'll cut him some slack since that was his debut role...

HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH! HAAH HAAH HAAAAAH HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I hear Tales of Symphonia is good. Really good in fact, but it's only on the Gamecube... :dahlia:

Handhelds? I have a Phat DS. I would get Hotel Dusk or something, but the screens are too dim for me...so, I do, but no.

Mmmm that Phat DS Beat.

Stick with it and get The World Ends with You. It's awesome though if you want something slower paced? Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2 you can easily sink 200+ hours into.

TWEWY, huh? Well...I'll think about it.

As I've said before, I'm not a huge fan of strategy RPGs.

Yeah, I was gonna say Symphonia is also on the PS2, but that was an enhanced port that also never made it to the western market.

On the DS, I can't think of any RPGs... if you like Adventure games, maybe get the Zelda DS games. The Spirit Track one seemed fun enough when I watched a Let's Play. Phantom Hourglass, maybe, too, I didn't pay much attention to it.

By the way, hilarity guys.
My mobile phone stopped working. This morning it was fine, but half an hour ago, I noticed that any SMS I send doesn't go through and neither do phone calls. Sent my mom an e-Mail to her blackberry. I try to use our landline, which was unplugged due to the fax being plugged in. I get a phonecall from my voicebox, a message from my mom: Her main phone is empty!
So we were both kinda cut off from contacting each other!
Luckily I called her other phone and that worked.

One thing I never got was why the smash bros. games are rated T, despite not having too much objective content, while shadow the hedgehog has a E10+ rating despite having guns, characters swearing every 10 seconds, and genocide as a major plot point. The ESRB is stupid sometimes. And I know that the conversation has shifted from the ESRB, but I really wanted to get that off of my chest, sorry. :sadshoe:

That's alright, because what you said is absolutely true. I still can't get over Ace Attorney being rated M. It doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game, but it's still really stupid. I don't get at all why Smash Bros is rated T either. Same goes with Zelda and Metroid.

I find it ironic though that Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid on Game Boy Color are both rated E. After all, they only have references to drugs, smoking, violence, blood, language, suicide, and a boss that uses dead corpses as human shields. Yup, seems perfectly fine for little Jimmy to play with. :viola:

Well, I have to say, I think the Rating was much more lenient in the 90s and such. I forget why, maybe they didn't have some Ratings at that point, but some of the games I'm still playing the Super Nintendo sure get away with stuff. Like the earlier Final Fantasy games or Romancing Saga 3, both made by Squaresoft.

Both those games had enemies that were basically nothing more than naked women in poses, surrounded by leaves or some conviently-placed fog or smoke or similar. I mean, just look at this monster! Practically presenting her boobs, thrusting them right into my face...! (No wonder the Screwdriver attack works so well on them!)
Not to mention the kinda heavy hint that Katrina and Mikhail leaving the screen at night to... uh... look at Loanne's river... in her intro.

Granted, Nintendo of America censored some games even then, changing Pub to Café, making a guy who obviously is a pastor in pastor robes... change into differently colored robes and suddenly he's not a pastor? Okay, I was kid when I played Lufia - Rise of the Sinistrals, but even I knew that that guy was a pastor, no matter what his clothes color was.

I wanted it for a while too, but then I figured I wouldn't really have much time for a family life if I went down that road.
