(Some of this is written in third-person because I sent parts to other people and it saved me a lot of effort. Also sorry if this story switches between past and present tense, I didn’t catch that until the end and it’d be too much of a delay if I had to change it)

You spend your night meditating in your room, hoping to establish a connection with an ego on the outside. It seems you have little luck to do so, and at around 3 AM the power shuts off.

You sigh at another problem in this miserable school, and then just lay on your floor, talking with the spirits you’ve become most accustomed to.

The feeling is quick and sudden, but it causes you to shoot upwards. Someone...died? Already?

You head over to the gym, as you know that’s where most of the people are. You stop at the classroom, though. For some reason, something about it catches your attention. You’ve come to trust your sixth sense for matters like this so you try to peer through the keyhole. However, something seems to be blocking it on the other side. You try to look through the crack at the bottom but it’s too awkward of an angle and you can barely even fit a finger through.

“How fruitless…” You murmur to yourself as you dust off your pants. As you head towards the gym, you see SiRReN come out of it. Your sixth sense has given you no readings on her, but...you’ve come to like the girl. Her understanding of you and the so-called ‘otherkin’ has warmed even a heart as still as yours.

“Hey, Subaru! What are you doing out here?”

You walk up close to her and whisper. “Meet us in the cafe in one hour. Please come alone.”

You wait in the cafe, trying to formulate a plan. Anything you came up with didn’t matter in the end anyway, as SiRReN didn’t listen to you. She brought the towering meat man with her.

“Hmph. Didn’t we request for you to come alone?” Subaru didn’t even look in their direction.

“Whatever you have to say, I’m sure we can trust Van too.” SiRReN said with pleading eyes.

“You’re a foolish girl, we can’t trust anyone anymore.” He takes a dramatic pause. “Someone has died.”

“W-What?” Van’s the one to speak now. “Where are they?”

“We can only guess, but we could feel the severing of someone’s mortal coil. Whether we like it or not, the game has begun.”

The room was silent for a while, before SiRReN spoke up. “We need to tell the others.”

“No.” Van decided. “Right now is our only shot to get the drop on the killer, so we should find them or the body.”

“Let’s start with the classroom and gym then.” Subaru suggested, and the two others followed him.

They made it outside of the classroom relatively quickly, but Subaru stopped. “This door is different from when we were last here.”

“When were you last here?” Van asked. “And how is it different?”

“Shortly after the power outage, when we felt that someone had died. There was no light leaking through the keyhole then.” He put his hand on the doorknob. “And the door is still locked…”

Van and SiRReN get closer to the door, and see that light is indeed leaking through the large keyhole. SiRReN leans down and looks through it.

“I can vaguely see...something. Maybe the key was blocking it from the other side last time?”

“Let me check, then Subaru can.” Van peered down and looked through the keyhole. He saw...something. Just then, a sound resonated throughout the school.

DING-DONG! “A body has been discovered! Please head over to the classroom as soon as possible!”

“W-What? T-T-T-hat was a body?!” SiRReN went pale.

“Blasphemy!” Subaru shouts.

“Stand back.” Van’s voice was eerily stern and his face was clear that there was no time for counterargument. Subaru and SiRReN stepped backwards while Van charged forward like a bull and smashed his massive shoulder into the sturdy door, knocking it off of its frame.

After everyone gathers at the crime scene, it’s decided that SiRReN and Subaru are to investigate the cafe, so that’s where you head.
