Ant gritted his teeth against the shock, his arms automatically flinging themselves to the sides only to be brought short by the handcuffs. He'd been expecting something for sure, but the pain caught him out with its severity and he let out a growl as the electricity coursed through him. It took him a few moments to recover, but once he did he tried to keep calm as he spoke.

"...I'm not surprised by the punishment, but these handcuffs seem a little much. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be able to fend for myself like this, so my mouth's staying shut." He couldn't quite comprehend how that had even happened, how anyone had even come across handcuffs here, but it irked him that they'd been used on him instead of anyone who was actually a confirmed threat. He idly tensed and untensed the muscles in his arms, wincing at the memory of the punishment. His actions caused the handcuffs to jingle, the sound echoing around the largely empty room.

(Oh, huh. I'm not sure that was ever said in the rules, I only saw that a penalty would normally be 1 light.)

(EDIT: Ah, I see, sorry, it was in the addendum.)

Penta seems to be back to her normal self - mostly, at least. Without looking at anything else, she approaches Ant.
"Better hold fast now. If you're really just one of all those Laurents in this world, you should be glad that you're still alive, and that there were only 3 votes for you. And if you're not, you'll soon have problems much bigger than just a mere electric shock."

D lets out a sigh of relief. She have managed to escape Judgement. She is safe.... For now. Until the next Judgement phase, that is.

"Alright, I have some questions that need answers.

First: What's with the handcuffs? The handcuffs being on Ant's wrists proves that one of us must be a cop, at least that's what I'm assuming.

Second question is for Queen: Did anything happened when you got the blessing? I understand that some of us feels you deserves the blessing, because you never got to vote." D asked the others.

Vii fished the sword key from his pocket. "It looks like we have some time before we get to the next doors, so let's see why this key was important enough to stick behind Door 6."

Queen watches on, speechless, as Ant undergoes his punishment. After the atmosphere subsides, she speaks quietly.

Well Ant, I don't think your situation is that bad, I'm not about to vote for you next round, and you only barely got the majority of votes this time. It's the new round soon, and I would hope you maintain good relationships with us, not just because it benefits us, but because it'll benefit you. I do agree that the handcuffs are a bit much, though.

As far as I can tell? Nothing. Maybe it'll do something later, or it lowers the number of lit lights on your bracelet, and I didn't have any in the first place.

"Blessings probably turn off one of the bracelet lights. It's like those Hurt and Heal games people play on internet forums. I'd have to imagine a blessing only removes one light, though; if it removed more than that, there's little reason we couldn't just alternate between punishing and giving mercy to the same people and keep the game going indefinitely."

"Hmm... but PUNISH always overrides MERCY. So you can't try to vote MERCY for someone whom everyone else is trying to PUNISH. You can only give MERCY to people who have lights, but who aren't under suspicion. That seems odd." Ant said. "And Skullface did deliberately withhold the function of MERCY, which would be unnecessary if all it was was a counter to PUNISH lights. The possibility is still there, but we shouldn't rule out alternatives."

"I think what Penta is saying applies to MERCY and PUNISH votes in different rounds." said Dry. "For example, Penta's saying that if you win the MERCY vote next round, one of your shock lights will be deactivated. But not two or more. That way..." Dry paused. "If the game is decided by the JUDGEMENT PHASES, the average shock lights active will increase, and all of us will eventually die."

Dry paused, lost in thought. "But that's why we gotta find an exit before that happens. Or at least get these damn bracelets off."

(Penta? You mean Vii?)

"Yes, I can understand that." Ant replied. "But the bracelet holder in question received a PUNISHMENT because they were under suspicion. They would only receive MERCY if they were no longer under suspicion. But at that point, what's the purpose? They're no longer under suspicion, so they're unlikely to be PUNISHED again. If there's a chance that people feel the need to PUNISH them again after all, the MERCY vote from before will have only been in the suspect's favour, and would be bad for everyone else."

The screen of the JUDGE blipped into life once more provoking their attention. The JUDGE yawning openly

Image
"Yaaaaah sorry about that, had to rest my old bones, normally I'd have liked to congratulate you on the first round. You'll now have a good idea of what's instore for you."

Image
"Commiserations on the punishment Ant, looks like you aren't having a great day but no time to dwell on it you have places to be don't you? If I were you, I'd be using that Sword Key on the lock in the hall."

Vii had been turning over the key in his hands idly while this had been going on. Nodding in agreement the group moved towards the hall where Vii thrust the sword key into the lock. The lock dividing along a seam in the middle and the two halves of it split apart and clattered to the ground. Tearing the now unlocked gate open, Neo led the group as they sprinted up the stairwell beyond it.

The ancient metal creaked under their weight but appeared to hold as the group emerged out of the narrow stairwell onto a balcony. Below them they could see the main prison floor where they had all emerged from their cells. There was hardly any room to move but the metal balcony extended in a perimeter around the room and the walls were also lined with cells, although these ones appeared substantially worse for wear, with many of them collapsed or blocked off.

Off to the side there is another heavy steel door which swings open leading to a small corridor with 4 doors extending from it. One door is barred up but the others bear the familiar numbers and monitors beside them.

[9]

[2]

[7]

Finally at the back of the room there is another heavy iron gate blocking a stairwell. The heavy padlock on the gate bears the image of a set of scales.

(THIS BEGINS THE DOOR PHASE)

(THE SWORD KEY IS NOW USELESS AND NO LONGER COUNTS AS AN ITEM)

(Next Phase change will be Wednesday 16th March 11am GMT)

(Please remember to check with the GM before using any items)

Ant looked at the numbers, and then announced to the rest of the group "This time the digital root of the three doors is 9, so no-one has to be left behind. This also means we can go through all three doors."

"Hmm, if we leave Ant handcuffed here, we won't all be able to search the rooms. So we can either let a suspected madman free, or lose the opportunity for some valuable information. But right now, there's something else I want to know."
Neo approached Ant, careful to keep his distance.
"So where's that item that you mentioned could help us?"

"Suspected madman. I'm glad I've made such a strong impression on you all." Ant muttered sarcastically.

"Right here." He then said, reaching down to one of his pockets. He fumbled for a while as the handcuffs got in the way, but soon pulled out a bracelet just like he was wearing. The lights were all off, but it was unmistakably the same type. "Backup bracelet." He explained, gently tossing the item two-handed to Neo.

"Suspected madman, not confirmed madman. We don't really have definitive proof yet, but whoever handcuffed you probably wanted to play it safe."
Neo reached down to pick up the bracelet. "A backup bracelet, huh? So with this we can... uh... well, it either has a value which we don't know, but could probably check using the 4, 5, and 6 doors, or we could give it a set value."
(Does "all lights off" include the display?)

(Since the item is out in the open I'll explain it here)

Everyone leans in to get a close look at the bracelet Ant had dropped.

X Bracelet
Another Bracelet much like the one on your wrist. The display appears to be blank but as you experiment with the buttons on the side you find out that you can change the number of the bracelet.

Can be privately set to any number of bracelet once and functions as a duplicate of that number from then on. Can be used to meet door requirements or for whatever other nefarious purposes you can imagine.

(It can now be claimed by anyone)

"When I said it could be used for the whole group, I meant that it would allow us to avoid another situation like the first set of doors, where we had to both leave someone behind and miss out on one of the rooms' safes." Ant explained further.

"That would be a similar situation to these handcuffs." Ant growled, annoyed by the antagonism. "This is a one-use item, once set it will be stuck on 6. If you use it on me, then we'll never get to use it at a time we're sure it matters."

"I gave up an item that could otherwise have been of use to me, what more do you want? Not to mention, out of all people to suspect me of being, it just had to be Sharpe..."

D counted her fingers to make sure that her math wasn't wrong.

"Since we can go through all three doors... I came up with 4 options. The four options are as following:

Option D 1:
Door 9 - Persephone, Ant, Dry
Door 2 - Queen, Bishop, Neo
Door 7 - D, Penta, Vii

Option D 2:
Door 9 - D, Ant, Queen
Door 2 - Vii, Dry, Neo
Door 7 - Bishop, Persephone, Penta

Option D 3:
Door 9 - Vii, Dry, Queen
Door 2 - D, Ant, Neo
Door 7 - Bishop, Persephone, Penta

Option D 4:
Door 9 - Persephone, Neo, Queen
Door 2 - Ant, Dry, Bishop
Door 7 - D, Penta, Vii

Those are the options that can works. For some of the options, I paired up two people whose numbers can add up to 10 and then pair that group with a number to match the door number that they need to go through. In the meantime, I'll figure out some more new options." D explained to the others, as she readjusted her glasses.

Queen contemplated for a moment.

Well, I'm also

Voting: Option D1

Though, I don't think my thought process is similar to Neo's and Bishop's at all.

Anyway, really interesting that independently from one another, all three of the people who have voted thus far, have voted to go into the same door.

Queen looks to Neo and Bishop, smiling.

I'm not saying it's suspicious, just saying I'm taking note of it.

I suppose I should be transparent and say that I just figured it would be a good idea because Neo and Bishop had both thrown down votes for door [2], and since I was going in too, I figured I would be in with a fighting chance if they were looking for an item or something.

I also feel comfortable voting for it since Bishop already sort of claimed responsibility for voting for it, so it would be easy to trace back responsibility to him depending on what happens in the door, and that's valuable information in this game.

It's worth saying though that Bishop might have just voted for a random door to start discussion or something, and all this was pointless.

Queen shrugs.

Anyway, I figured that was enough to choose it.
