"If you accept that you're not here as a Moonview, then..." Bertram seemed conflicted, so turned, as was typical, to Gloria. "Mother, this is your party. What do you say?"

"Yes, I believe Mickey has a point here, I'm afraid." Maurice nodded, glancing in the direction of the windows. "The storm only seems to be worsening by the moment. It's not as though we can simply kick him out at this point, not when he has nowhere else to go. I believe your son should stay here, Bertram, even if only for just this one night. If we're allowing all kinds of riff-raff in here"- he didn't have to look at Billy to get cross his point- "then your own child deserves a stay here." He sounded surprisingly firm as he spoke. "And, Mickey... perhaps you should go and have a change of clothes. Perhaps a bath as well. I'm not sure what's going on between you and your father, but I believe you need this right now."

"And I have a feeling Mother approves of his staying here as well, Bertram", he added somewhat snidely.

Robin watched the drama of Mickey's return unfold, her speechless surprise quickly giving way to silent distress. She seemed to be on high alert, gripping Zachary's arm under the table.

Quote:
Violet has entirely stopped eating her food, though she is very close to finishing it. Instead, she's intently listening, a bit horrified.

She leans in next to Robin and whispers, "Is this. why he... you know?"

Robin flinched, startled by Violet, but recovered once she turned to look and remembered that they were sitting next to each other. "I..." she whispered back. "I feel like they should have some privacy." Robin's eyes drifted to the door.

She couldn't hold them in anymore. They were stinging her eyes and begging to come out. So she let the tears roll down her cheeks as her lips quivered. "He did NOT leave! He never left, my darling! Have you been lied to? Have all of you been lied to?" She gently put a hand over her face, trying to stop crying. "He is family and he always has been. He's your brother, Lucine . . !" Her eyes slowly shifted to Bertram. "And he's your son, Bertie." She let out another sigh, shaking her head. "To discard someone who is family is simply awful."

"You do realise what it means to be disowned, I hope?" Bertram replied to the people questioning him. "I felt that he was not living up to the family name: he agreed. It was for the best for both of us. I gave him a sizeable sum so that he could live comfortably on his own and do whatever it is he pleased, in exchange for him legally no longer being part of the family. That was, and always has been, the deal. Both he and I understand and accept this... I hope," he added, glancing at Mickey. "You're all acting like I'm casting him out, but I'm perfectly capable of treating him with respect, just as I would any other acquaintance of mine."

Zachary had been simply, motionlessly watching the scene unfold, instinctively leaning in close to his wife, trying to give her as much warmth and comfort as he could.

"I agree," Zachary whispered to his side, "This is not the time or place for . . . this."

Zachary waved a hand, trying to get one of the butlers' attention.

"So, to get this straight, you basically disowned him, paid him to buzz off, and don't consider him family anymore because he was ruining the family name? Wow. That's just... wow."

Asher let out a faux laugh that sounded more like a scoff.

"That's messed up. There's a difference between acquaintances and your own, blood-related son."

He leaned back in his chair, shrugging his shoulders.

"Buuut what do I know? I'm just some cripple. Hopefully that doesn't ruin the family name."

"I would refrain from making such harsh comments without fully understanding the situation, Sir Asher..." Archer shoots the boy a bit of a glare. "As Master Bertraim says, it was an agreement the two of them have previously agreed upon. There is no need to share the reasons for this."

Archer then turned to approach Zachary. "Is there anything I can do for you, sir?"

"What privacy? They're the ones doing it in public." Violet comments, seemingly not caring much at all. She finishes her plate however.

"Bertie, give Mickey a second chance!" Vincent yells as he slams his fists onto the table, causing the silverware to clatters. "He may be trouble to you in the past... But... He..." He trials off, trying to think of what to say next. Failing to find the right words to say, the musician looks toward Mickey.

"Now, now. Listen everyone." He addressed the table. "The old man is right. We had a deal. Luce is a better fit to be the next head honcho. That wasn't for me, that wasn't the life I wanted. But the man I was then isn't the man I am now." The comments about him needing a shower went unaddressed.

With that statement, he threw his duffel bag on the middle of the table, unzipping it. His desperation to prove himself to the family was clear. "Don't worry, Mee-mah! I've changed. I brought gifts! For you, for the others, for everyone!"

'Everyone' would prove to be a lie. Though he did have a variety of gifts, but none seemed particularly expensive or tailored to the receivers. It was unclear whether or not some of the gifts were intended for people who weren't present at the party and he was regifting them.

"First, for my lovely sister." He produced two packages of Tim-Tams and put them by Lucine's plate.

He gave his mother a piece aboriginal artwork on a tapestry. It appeared to be the Australian Outbacks. It wouldn't fit with the decor of the house, but it did look nice. He surprisingly got a gift for his father too--it appeared to be a small statue of a viking that was about as functionally useful as a paperweight or mantelpiece. Though somebody culturally astute would recognize the statue as Odin.

Uncle Maurice got an Akubara hat. Gloria got a gift as well, a book on ancient stories of the occult.

Violet got some violin sheet music for some folk songs. Asher got a bodybuilding magazine and a hug that was more like a headlock. "You two have grown up so much." He stated to Violet and Asher with heavy emotion. "I wish we got along better as kids. I got these flowers for Aunt Diane too, but they died on the way." He sadly stated, producing a dead bouquet of flowers and leaving it between their plates. "And I'm sorry, I didn't know you guys had a new half-sister." He said, indicating Wyn. "I would've gotten her something too."

Shockingly he also had hand-rolled cigarettes of very fine tobacco as well as a marijuana plant. He gave them to Briggs and Uncle Billy, respectively. Were these gifts originally intended for someone else? Or was this fate after all?

Asher opened his mouth to respond to Archer, but was interrupted by Mickey pulling him into a very tight, uncomfortable hug. He gagged a bit at the stench, and thankfully, the hug didn't last too long. He looked at the flowers and let out a sigh.

"Died along the way, huh? ... Hopefully that's just a coincidence and not rubbing in the fact even more. And no, Mickey, that's... not our half-sister. She's... Father's new wife."

Uncomfortable with the topic at hand, he decided to just bury his nose in the bodybuilding magazine he had received.

"... Leg day's gonna be a bitch and a half for me to do."

Basil shook his head and wiped a hand across his face exasperated with this. "Look, Bertram, we wouldn't throw a stranger out into the storm in a situation like this right? Even if he's not your family, we've more than enough room to host him here while this storm is on."

"It's good to see you Mickey. Maybe a little notice next time would be appreciated though." he said raising his eyebrows at the lad.

Her eyes widened, staring in shock as her lips twisted into a very fragile frown. She felt so pathetic, but this was a certain topic that always made her so terribly sad. Like the whole world was just . . . breaking from the seams. She let more tears fall before it soon turned into heavy sobbing. To act like this at a family gathering was extremely embarrassing. But she couldn't seem to contain it.

She stared at the gift for a very long moment, a small sad smile appearing on her face. Just looking at the artwork was cheering her up. It was a gift from her son, after all. She seemed to just silently admire it while trying to calm down.

"Er... thank you, Mickey." Maurice seemed quite confused with his gift, but decided to keep it with him anyway. He didn't seem to have anything else to add, if anything he seemed quite exasperated by everything.

Bertram shook his head in exasperation. "None of you had to live with him. You know he once burned down our Christmas tree? Or there was that time he secretly raised a pack of rats in his room: once they escaped, the damage they caused... I shudder to even recall. Why, do any of you remember that suit of antique armour that used to stand guard in the foyer? I say 'used' because he once took it into his head to try swimming in the sea wearing the thing! It's a wonder he even survived..."

Recalling all of the chaos Mickey had caused in the past seemed to be sending Bertram down a dark rabbit hole; thankfully he was rescued by Mickey speaking up again. "...Thank you, Mickey," he said, more quietly now. He accepted the statue with a little hesitation, clearly a bit bewildered by such an odd gift. "I am... glad you seem to be doing well," he admitted. "You seem to be living the life you wanted to."

He turned to address some of the people who had commented earlier. "Good heavens, how you all villainise me... I wasn't going to kick him out into the storm, I just didn't want him in here, interrupting our family meal. I had planned for him to wait in the guest reception room, just as any other guest who came at this hour would do."

"Half-sister? Oh, what a silly billy." Wyn says, covering her mouth as she lets out a dainty laugh. "But yes, I am indeed Zilly's new wife." She places her hand on her necklace and smirks. "Yes, very scandalous, very questionable, I'm sure people have already had lots to say on our relationship."

"But anyways, it's nice to meet you, Mickey. I guess there are even more Moonviews than I had previously thought." Wyn says, curtsying once more.

Violet takes the sheets, smiling after looking at them for a bit. "Thank you. Unfortunately I don't have anyone to play this for anymore at home. It could work here, though." She comments.

The smile is wiped out by a look of shame as soon as the 'new wife' part is spoken. "It's... uncanny, yes."

Robin was standing before she even realized it, shaky hands gripping the edge of the table. Her voice came out harsh and strained: "He was your son, Bertram. It was your job to love him, not his job to be good enough!"

She blinked rapidly for a second and backed away. "I'm-- I should go. I'm sorry," she said, though it wasn't clear who she was apologizing to, and hurried out of the room.

James had been finding the family drama quite uninteresting and decided to speak up, "Who cares about that kid being disowned. This supposed to be a feast isn't it? I think we should stop arguing and enjoy our meal."

Jacqueline's teary eyes shifted over to the woman, gasping a bit. She hadn't really spoken to Robin at all since they arrived here, which gave her the urge to go make sure she was alright. She quickly wiped her eyes, probably smearing mascara. "I shall go after her." She spoke to no one in particular, quickly making her way after Robin.

"...Yes, well, I must be taking my leave for tonight as well, I'm afraid. My appetite has been lost", Maurice responded distastefully, putting his spoon down even though he hadn't finished eating. "Good grief, this family... I knew I shouldn't have returned", he muttered, shaking his head as he left the room, leaving the others to themselves.

Robin made it a fair distance down the hall before she realized she was lost. She cursed under her breath and rubbed her eyes, which were blurred with tears. As well as she knew parts of the manor, she still wasn't used to navigating the entire thing. She'd been looking for a restroom - or maybe the exit. She might be able to get back to the guest house before the storm got too bad.

The sound of approaching footsteps reached her. She turned and saw Jacqueline (to her surprise) and Zach (to her relief).

"H-hey," she said, trying to maintain her composure in front of Jacqueline. "I'm - sorry about that, back there. It's none of my business..."

As the argument kept going on, Vincent let out a exasperated sigh. "I'm sorry, Auntie Gloria, but I don't think we can enjoy the feast because of the arguing. I'll go jam on my guitar to get my thoughts straighten out. Talk to you later!"

With that being said, the musician left the room.

Shockingly he also had hand-rolled cigarettes of very fine tobacco as well as a marijuana plant. He gave them to Briggs and Uncle Billy, respectively. Were these gifts originally intended for someone else? Or was this fate after all?

"Oh, wow, thank you Mickey dude," Billy replied quietly, taking the marijuana. "This is some good stuff. I already bring some with me, but good to have extra."

Uncle Billy had lost track of the familial dispute though. He looked back and forth before eventually deciding now would be the perfect time to make small talk with Briggs.

"Hey, Bricks! Have you tried this stuff yet?" he shouted, gesturing to the marijuana. "Is much healthier than cigarette and more fun too! Let me know if you want borrow some."

Regardless of his response, he resumed gleefully eating as the chaos unfolded.

It seemed for now he was taking Gloria's silence as tacit approval of his presence there. It also seemed he about had his fill of being the center of attention for now. Trying to reduce the awkward atmosphere, he simply took Maurice's seat, asked the servants for a clean plate, and began smearing butter over a roll.

"B-Be nice to your mommy..!" Briggs sputtered to himself, struggling to stifle his laughs.

Violet turns to Briggs. A pissed off stare was about the only response needed.

It seemed to run in the family, because Asher gave Briggs an equally pissed off stare.

"... I'm gonna head out of the room before I get a headache. ... Honestly, Aunt Robin put it best. I couldn't agree more with her," he whispered to his sister before standing up and limping out of the room as well.
