I also have an idea for a game. It's a first person puzzle game akin to games like Portal and Quantum Conundrum in which you have the power to change the properties of objects around you. You can make objects bigger, smaller, faster, slower, change what they're made out of, etc. You use these powers to solve puzzles and make your way from room to room. Your character is a 19 year old archaeology student who goes on a trip to some ancient ruins in order to prove himself to his professor. He finds an artifact in the ruins which gives him reality warping powers. An ancient god then speaks to him, and tells him that he has to use these powers to collect special artifacts in various temples throughout the world and use their power to reawaken an ancient civilization, or else he will face a punishment most dire. The god will speak to you throughout the game, serving a similar role to Glados from portal.

I feel you, my family's iPad just died today after 3 years of use. Never did I think to back it up the whole time. And we don't have the $700 to buy a new one. And I just bought Jet Set Radio with my last bit of credit too.

I feel for you. I remember when my computer at college got infected with fake antivirus software. Nothing I did could cure it without destroying all the data I had, and backing up the data at that point meant running the risk of transferring the software to another computer. Anything I hadn't copied to my thumb drive before the infection was lost forever.

I think the idea is actually good, but need refinement. I'm not sure, what would be the point of changing the thing, meaning the goal of the hero. Also, it look awfully a lot like Portal. I can't feel the main ambiance of the game nor what would make it unique.

But I digress.I study in the field and I can say one thing. Developper is a really big domain. Developper means concept artist, game designer, modeler, animator, programmer, producer, menu designer,level designer, vfx artist, environement artist, level artist, texture artist, quality tester, sometime scenarist, music artist, translator, and so many more. Just look at the generic at the end of the game and watch the numerous job they have.
I'm sure you can find your way, since myself, do not possed super talent in drawing, let alone programming, but recently took a like in animating. So search a bit, ask to people working in the field, generally they are super happy to tell newbies what their work consist to and how they can get this post.

Regarding your idea, I think it's fine but I think it's very safe an normal. These 'first person lab puzzlers' are becoming increasingly common around the marketplace and they aren't really my thing. However I think the idea of manipulating matter is a pretty cool one and if done right it could be excellent. You could gate various powers at the different temples he'd have to visit since it'll involve globe travelling and that means you can introduce new mechanics to your game. I'd step up the age of the protagonist and maybe just make them a full on Archaeologist as why would a nineteen year old undergrad be allowed on an archaeological site? Much less the first in a tomb or temple in spite of traps. Perhaps it's just me but I'm tired of a trend of 'young protagonists' in every game. Also perhaps if you put a greater emphasis on character and plot as well. The fact you have to globetrot a bit means there would presumably be timeskips where we'd see the character travelling and getting access to a new place. Perhaps they'd use their powers outside the temples? Perhaps even if it didn't work they'd try? Perhaps it'd be a chance to establish a character rather than a typical 'blank slate' like Chell which would also help distance it from Portal a bit.

The reason I made the main character a teenager was because I thought that making him an adult would make him too similar to Indiana Jones. I was thinking about having the main character talk, and maybe having a boss at the end of each temple. Thank you very much for your criticism, I appreciate it.

He might be similar to Indiana Jones but only in age and presumably gender. Could make it a female protagonist or make it much older (like Indy's father) or just change his personality to something new. Similarity might be ok...as no one liked younger Shia LaBouef's Indiana Jones character XD.

Spent mine at home with the grandparents and my uncle drinking wine and watching telly, it was nice and peaceful. I guess I'm pretty boring

That sucks, but that's why you always need to back up your data on any electronic device because that's always bound to happen anytime.

Yeah I spent New Years Eve with a bunch of friends at a friend's house. We played Cards against humanity (I score 3/5 shame on me), Roborally (which was hilarious as some of us were just plain bad at it), Resistance and other stuff long into the night. Only hit the mattress at like 5:30.
XP Then I got home today exhausted and feeling horrible and 5 minutes later not even changed outta last night's clothes and my Aunt and her entire family arrived for New Years Dinner. Honestly I don't have the energy to socialise now, just wanna curl up and pass out right now.

Hmm I'd always thought you were like...a few years away from me.
Though I dunno I'd thought having a big steak pie was always a tradition in Britain but my girlfriend isn't aware of it either so perhaps it's just here at home.

It's been two months since I changed my name. There's a tread here specifically to change your username on here but Bolt Storm doesn't like it when you change alot. He likes to have a "grace period" between name changes. So if you ever wanna change your name I could give you the link.
