Small thing I want to change. However, I don't like making up rules as they go along, so if you guys aren't ok with this, just say so

The original rules for blackening were: six people had to decide when it was time to vote to blacken the culprit (didn't matter when each person decided). Once they decide, everyone votes to blacken

New rules (more streamlined): You can vote to blacken a culprit anytime. Once six people vote, the lead is blackened

((OOC: So if 4 people vote to blacken person A, and 2 people vote to blacken person B, then person A gets blackened? Also, are things still divided by crime? So, for example, what happens if 4 people vote person A on suspicion of being Zero, and 2 people vote person B on suspicion of killing Sergei?))

((Person A would get blackened. And things are divided by crime, so it'd have to be 6 votes within one crime))

It seemed like the argument had bursted out of nowhere. Things had happened to suddenly, Luna hadn't fully wrapped her head around it yet. However, for the time being, she simply asked Seven, "Exactly when did you notice the knife was gone?"

Seven looked over to Luna, the poor woman had been through a lot lately. "As I said, when I left the room and tried to hide it I was informed the knife was missing," she explained

Quote:
"Heh...I was...not active at that time so I couldn't really say much...oops." Pigeon grins cheekily, clearly embarrassed

"Even if you weren't 'active' the first thing you said didn't even concern the missing knife!" Seven said incredulously.

Quote:
"It doesn't necessarily have to be Oliver though. You should have just left the knife in the 9 door, knowing we couldn't get back in there, that would have been the best way to keep it safe. You shouldn't have brought it out into the open, now we have someone with a knife on the loose! If you really wanted to keep us safe, you should have told me and Oliver that you took the knife, then you should have left it in the room and we could have all made sure nobody touched it as we exited. If you really did want to hide the knife, you planned to hide it so that you could get it again and use it or give it to someone. Answer me this. You claimed that Oliver and I didn't have the group's best interest. What about you? You openly accused two people for a crime that you knew for a fact they didn't commit. All this did was spread discord in the group and threw shade on me and Oliver (even getting us suspected of murder)"

Seven shook her head sadly "No I couldn't have, I couldn't guarantee someone else wouldn't take the knife. I'm no thief or psychic so I'd have no chance of getting it back if someone else had taken it." she explained. "If I hadn't took it someone else might have, there's no guarantee if I hadn't took it it would have necessarily remained in that room. Especially since everyone got to go in afterwards to look." she said.

"Also I defended myself against allegations of taking the knife. I already explained why I didn't want to be known to have it. Yes I threw allegations at you, but you'll also notice I tried to downplay everything and encourage us to move on because I acknowledged no one had anything for sure? Even then you both didn't have the group's best interest at heart. The only people I was sowing discord with were people who had already sown it with me by wanting to make the other groups suffer!" Seven said shaking slightly with quiet rage. "And at the end of the day once I got out of the room I wasn't lying about not having the knife. OR, most likely, the fact that either you or Oliver has it."

Quote:
"I don't think we'd be using this knife to fillet fish or chop some greens, right? I mean, the last person who used that knife definitely was not cooking a casserole."

Seven's head tilted to the side and she let out a sigh "Talk about comically missing the point...intentions are motives, that's all that matters. Most anything can be used to kill someone with enough determination I'm sure."

Quote:
I'd much rather know exactly where the knife is than know that someone stole it. Wouldn't you?"

"Yeah...I suppose you could look at it that way...but a knife not existing is better than a knife you know where it is," she pointed out optimistically.

Quote:
Like I said, if you wanted to make sure that the knife was out of the game, you would have left it in a door that could not be opened again, instead of out here where everyone can get to it, including a killer or two.

Seven shook her head "No, like I said, I couldn't guarantee any of you were good-hearted people and so took the knife myself to dispose of it. Especially when you consider at the end everyone got to go into that room so anyone could have claimed it with a little discussion with the narrator which means...." Seven threw out a finger dramatically

"If I hadn't snagged it there the murderer or Zero would DEFINITELY have had a chance to snag the knife."

I have to go somewhere now. I'm sure you guys won't mind a marginally shorter phase. Quite a bit in this one--a corpse, a bomb, an escape door, oh my

Vote count is...something. No-Lynch wins! Bomb has twelve hours left

The doors are [2], [7], [9]. Locked doors have a [dove] and [peacock]

"Well, then that's that." Yon said, "Okay, so considering the door combinations that Luna gave us.... That leaves us with two options. The two options goes like this:

Option A
6 + 1 + 4 = 2
2 + 5 + 9 = 7
8 + 3 + 7 = 9

Option B
6 + 5 + 9 = 2
2 + 1 + 4 = 7
8 + 3 + 7 = 9

And that's pretty much the options we were presented right now." Yon said, very certain that these are the only options right now.

Seven fiddled with her fingers for a while "I'm...I...I'd actually prefer not to be left in a small group with Oliver if that's alright...I'll think of alternate numbers if I can." she suggested quietly.

(Additionally, since we've done a full round, could you put all the basic round mechanics including Blackening into the OP please?)

"...I think it'd be difficult to take the knife from a corpse with eight other pairs of eyes watching," Luna said flatly in response to Seven's last point.

Pigeon nonchalantly making all these claims--like that Seven was likely Zero, or he was a psychic--took Luna by surprise, but now she had been able to organize her thoughts. She her first thought was to reject the idea that Pigeon was psychic, but... he was right about Saturn going in door [8], and he was right about Seven having the knife stolen from her. Of course, there were other ways he could have known those things, but he still seemed to be providing them with accurate information.

"There's no point in arguing over why Seven took the knife," Luna said sternly. "She could be Zero. She could be the murderer. She could be planning some other murder. ...Or she could have wanted to make sure nobody else used the knife for something evil. There's no way for us to know.

"The more important issue is who has the knife now. It appears that there's a pickpocket among us... I have to imagine if there was someone among us constantly scrounging through our pockets, one of us would have noticed by now. Which means that instead, this pickpocket moves infrequently, targeting specific people and objects. In other words, the pickpocket knew Seven had the knife. Moreover, Seven claims that she noticed the knife was missing as soon as she came out of door [9]. The only people who knew about the knife at that point were Oliver and Pigeon. Therefore, the most likely candidates were Oliver and Pigeon. Of course, it's also possible that Seven is lying about the knife being stolen. In short, it's highly likely that Oliver, Seven, or Pigeon has the knife, just as before.

"One other possibility is that the thief was trying to take the 'item' that gave Seven an extra 3 BP. However, the only people who knew that the 3 BP were in the form of an 'item' and that the person with that 'item' was Seven at the time of the theft were Oliver and Pigeon and so the logic doesn't change."

As Luna finished making her argument, she realized that the timer on the bomb would have reached 0 by now. It seemed they were safe... for another 12 hours, at least. But this feeling of relief was quickly drowned out by the realization that this meant another round was starting, and they'd need to start this awful process over again--and this time, it'd likely be one of them that died. (Of course, considering how this first round went, Luna probably would have preferred that!)

Yon then summarized the options that Luna had laid out earlier.

"It might be a bit hard to tell just from looking at the numbers, but there actually isn't that much difference between the options," Luna began to explain. "There's two main important details. First, Saturn, Oliver, Doctor, Triton, and Seven all go through the same door in both options. Second, me and Yon form a pair, and Leo and Pigeon form a pair, who enter the same door in both options. The only difference is which pair goes through door [2] and which pair goes through door [7].

"I don't really have a big preference between the two options... but I vote Option A."

Pigeon remembered something else that happened in the 9 door
"We found a key. I'd like to use it.

As for the killer, it could have been anyone in any door, but I guess it means that they have some sort of agreement with Zero. If the body isn't old, the killer was awake while all of us were knocked out."

"I said this at 6:05 yesterday, which means that anyone could have gotten to the knife before Seven went to go hide it (which I don't really believe at all, the 9 door would have been the safest place to keep the knife) as long as it was after this time.
Vote: Option B (though I really don't mind too much, I'll be willing to change my vote if that means we can get past)"

Seven swallowed hard "So long as I don't go with Oliver I'm pretty happy with this outcome, though if he is the thief who took the knife then he can easily take BP without any of us knowing....I mean...yeah it's all swell and we'll blacken him instantly but it won't matter a jot for the poor soul that gets stabbed." she warned before looking at Luna "Also I doubt anyone was trying to steal the BP item...it drained the moment I picked it up, I don't think it's useful anymore."

Shaking her head she slapped her cheeks again to waken herself up "Alright...a new round, a new start, that's enough negativity for now. We've got puzzlin' to do." she said trying to restore her usual chipper expression as she considered the options.

"Before I vote can we get a reminder as to why these options were preferable? I think another one of the doors had 3 BP in it, in which case it should go to people who didn't go in the BP door last time right?" she suggested.

Seven raised her hands in a peaceable sign of non-hostility "Hey hey now I'm not insinuating you are the killer, and I'm sorry if I ever implied that." she said tensely "But look at it this way, if I believed you had the knife, you'd stand to gain a lot from killing me, that's simple maths right?" she said trying to keep it as light-hearted as possible.

Yes but it's very possible Zero/assistant and the murderer are not the same

If Seven was the assistant, she'd take the knife to give it to Zero, right? Except when she tried to give it, she found that it was missing (but she's claiming she tried to hide it). If Seven was not the assistant, Zero, or the one who killed The Russian, it's possible she still tried to use the knife to kill someone. That's my argument (it's more likely she's Zero or the assistant, though. Using the knife from a room everybody knows you were in wouldn't be smart)

Seven, you still haven't answered my question. Who do you think Zero and the possible assistant are? Who do you think the killer is?

Seven wagged a finger at Oliver "Hey now I already told you it don't suspect you of murder Oliver, just of stealing the knife." she said somewhat offended that Oliver would keep insisting.

"Also regarding my thoughts on Zero and the murderer..." she scrunched up her face as she assembled her thoughts. "Well I don't like to put too many judgements out there without proper consideration but I would not say Luna is the murderer given her circumstances I don't believe for a second she would murder her husband. There's many people who have remained pretty quiet so far, Leo Saturn and Triton seem content to sit on the fence which makes it hard to get a read on them and throw around accusations so far."

"I'm not sure I entirely trust him either, but I have to admit that he's been right so far," Luna said. "And it's not like he's the one directly giving us the information about these things. If Saturn's story about his shirt and his friend is a total lie, that's on Saturn, not Pigeon."

Doctor looked at Luna... Then slowly nodded. "Aright."

"I agree with Luna. I've certainly dealt with more pleasant individuals than Pigeon, but he was correct about the last set of doors..." She shrugged. "As for being quiet, I'm afraid I just haven't had much to comment on that others haven't already mentioned."

Seven nodded in approval at the vote "Well that's fine, though I'll admit I kinda thought the powers would be something along the lines of guiding people to their respective gemstones," she scratched her chin. "Well....last time..." she began flicking through her notes "Huh....well...I probably should have a bigger deal of that at the time...I guess I zoned out and went into auto-scribe mode or something." she said, her brow furrowing.

"We spent a lot of time looking for a suspect or something covered in blood, but Saturn said, there was a stage costume that could render someone invisible in the right kind of light." she tapped her pad curiously "Surely that could mean there could be...it might sound a bit out there...someone else finding some way to hide in this costume. It would mean the murderer could be someone else entirely right?" she said turning to Saturn "What circumstances does this costume need to be rendered invisible?"

She slipped the pencil behind her ear in thought "In fairness these 'Pigeonholes' turned up a pretty nice piece of information last time. Not that it's necessarily smart to give ourselves entirely over to the will of one person but I'm fine following his advice on doors once more," she said waiting to hear what Saturn had to say.

You thought you could be safe in your courts, with your laws and attorneys to protect you. In this world only I am law, my word is fact, my power is absolute.

Saturn shrugged. He was never much of a talker and this situation was no different.
"The only thing I can comment on," Saturn stated with a flat tone, "is that Pigeon's instinct was right about me going through Door [8], and he wants four people to go into different doors now."
He turned towards Pigeon and asked, "One thing I'm wondering for the future: Are you going to put your money where your mouth is when it is you yourself who would trigger a Narrative Event by going through a certain door?"
Saturn turned his head back towards the group, "Anyway, it doesn't matter at all which option is chosen, considering there is not much difference between them. However, for now, I will..."
Vote: Option A

After hearing Seven's question, Saturn scratched his chin for a moment.
"Okay," Saturn began, "So my friend invented the design and used it in some of his shows. However... I can't remember if he ever told me how it works. All I can recall is that you need a certain type of light and a certain backdrop for the full effect." Saturn racked his brain for anything his friend might have told him about the specifics.
