"Are you suggesting Ember might be a Werewolf?" Stella blinked. "I suppose it's possible, but I don't see it being likely at all. We were all just about to lynch Astrid, so what would she gain from entertaining Hazel's claims? Unless you think Astrid is a Werewolf too, but Ember's had plenty of opportunity to try to sway the vote away sooner and didn't."

Maximillion sighed with realisation and disappointment “By that same logic, Ember could be the minion. Do something stupidly suspicious like be struck by amnesia in order to take the fall.”

He held his hands up in exasperation “If we look at the minion as trying to take the fall then Astrid or Ember is the minion or tanner. Both benefit by making themselves as suspicious as possible.”

“With That in mind I still lean towards Vivienne. If there is a fake villager then they are at least trying to be subtle and hide. Whereas both Ember and Astrid were suspicious right our the gate.”

“I’m fine with Vivienne too. It’s a ‘good enough’ answer and I just want this horseshit to be over at this point. If we lose I’ll make my money back some other way.”

Vivienne slowly raised a hand to her mouth and let out a loud yawn.

“Ugh, this has been the longest thirty minutes of my life,” she mumbled, sound rather bored. “I’m sorry, everyone, but I just don’t particularly care anymore. I still believe Astrid is the best choice, but there’s nothing I can really say to combat these accusations. So I’d rather just allow the game to reach its conclusion. That is all I have to say.”

“Wolf or not, that’s the spirit!” Luka shouted enthusiastically, slapping Vivienne in the back a little too hard but not so hard that it should really be a concern.

Maximillion eyes narrowed dangerously sharply at Luka. “Indeed...” He looked to Emissary and Stella, seeing them as the defecto ‘heads’ of investigation just now.

“Her insistence on Astrid concerns me though. If she is the werewolf she wouldn’t want an obvious tanner to get lynched because then she’d lose too. Hell no one wants the tanner.”

He looked back to Vivienne “Do you really think Astrid was dumb enough to make that mistake by accident? If she was the solitary wolf as you are arguing she would know a safe role to claim.”

"My stance hasn't really changed," Stella mused. "Of the primary suspects, I still believe Emissary and Maximillion are with the village. I don't think Astrid is, but for reasons I've already stated, she seems more likely to be the Tanner or Minion than a Werewolf. That basically narrows it down to Vivienne or Ember, and Hazel's message implicates Vivienne more, so that's who I think I'll be voting. If I'm wrong, well, I suppose there's not much else I could have done," she concluded with a shrug.

"This is untrue," The Emissary said impatiently. "A solitary Werewolf only learns one of the three unclaimed roles. A solitary Werewolf can always get unlucky and be told 'Werewolf is an unclaimed role'. They can also be told Tanner or Minion are unclaimed, both similarly unsafe. In any of those three scenarios they are just as in the dark about what roles are safe as they were when the round started.

"I still don't entirely believe Hazel. I examined the area she and Ember both claimed to see words in and saw nothing. But for sake of argument lets use those three roles as an example of the three unclaimed roles. Astrid might have just been told 'Werewolf is an unclaimed role'. This does not help her. She might have been told 'Insomniac is an unclaimed role'. This doesn't guarantee her safety, Insomniac is a dangerous role to claim in a world of Robbers and Troublemakers. There's only a 1/3 chance she gets told the useful one: 'Villager is an unclaimed role'. It is simply untrue to claim that a solitary Werewolf would definitely know a safe role to claim."

*Bing*

The round ends, the group can hear the door unlocking audibly. Everyone holds their breath.

Code:
Astrid was killed by the vote.

She was a Minion.

The Werewolf Team wins.

Prize money is being distributed to Astrid and Vivienne.

A prize for completing the first three rounds has been placed in the movie theater.

A feeling of defeat and frustration fills the hearts of many in the room.

"So my premonitions were correct... the writing upon the walls was our clue... It is a pity we wasted our chance", Hazel sighed defeatedly.

"Phew!" Astrid lets out a huge sigh of relief. "I thought I went from certain victory to the verge of defeat... And yes, Hazel, that was all due to your... 'visions.'"

Vivienne let out a sigh as she collapsed against the back wall. "Finally...That was exhausting. All that stress simply isn't good for my hair." Vivienne frowned, stroking the side of her head.

"Still, that got really close at the end, especially thanks to Hazel's interference. I must earnestly thank Miss Jepsen though," she added, smiling. "...For doing all the difficult work and even sacrificing her very life for our victory!"

"At least Astrid wasn't the Tanner. This outcome isn't so bad, really," The Emissary said. "Currently I don't think either Astrid or Vivienne are even in the lead despite this victory."

Maximillion clapped his hands together repeatedly and enthusiastically as his demeanour returned to its jolly old self. “Oh hoho what a wonderful wicked turn of events! Congratulations to both of you hoohoo, I daresay we made you sweat a few times there!” He laughed as a grin broke across his face.

“If only I could have convinced a couple more conspirators to crucify Vivienne but that was indeed an exciting and interesting game.” He beamed at both Vivienne and Astrid “My thanks Zero for the experience! That was most fun!”

“This might be a bit out of nowhere, but I was thinking about the ‘popular choice’ thing I brought up earlier... not that it worked out so well last time but just humor me.” Luka looked at everyone. “Who do you think Zero is? Even if you just had throw out a hopeless guess.”

The Emissary shrugged. "Hazel," he said. "And I don't mean that in a bad way," he added, addressing her.

"My other guess is Pink. There are... various factors to back that up. I just find it hard to believe that Zero would make such a song and dance of being 'one of us' only to hide themselves away and be the most suspicious participant by far."

"My, my", Hazel shook her head. Was she being dismissive of them, or did the claims amuse her? It was hard to tell. "I'm quite surprised by these accusations. ...In any case, if I had to name a possible suspect for this 'Zero' person, it would be a choice made at random, since I have little to go on here. That said, the masked man has brought up an interesting point about Pink... it is strange we have not met them yet."

"In any case, did that screen not mention a... prize for completing the first three rounds?" She reminded. "Perhaps we should go see what we have been awarded with."

The group moves into the theater. On the loveseat sits a reel of film.

Printed on a sticker on the side are the words: Zero - A Message From The Emissary.

The Emissary nodded. "Maybe it's referring to the movie? Perhaps the reel is of a specific scene from The Emissary, relevant to the game in some way."

Maximillion peered over from the back of the group what the fuss was “Ooh a new film! Put it on! Put it on!” He cheered giddily “I want to see what our prize for the first stage is!” He said his mind distracted from the topic of Zero by the prospect of another game.

“Ah my dear, I was sick of THOSE movies, in truth I am direly desperate for a new form of entertainment.” He laughed extending a hand to gesture at Stella and Cousteau “Besides as a fellow competitor, sure you too are fired up and eager for more after such an invigorating and exciting conclusion!”

He chuckled to himself as he looked back towards the parlour “There is a reasonable amount of vindication in knowing our theories were right even if they were not ratified by others.” He fell silent with a start and peered over the group at the back as he realised the film was starting.

“It might be worth doing a tally of our points value after this though...” he whispered before the film started.

The film flickers to life. Images are projected onto the screen.

It's a white background, and in front of it is the shadowy outline of a person.

"Hello, everyone! As you may have realized, this isn't really just a game for a lots of money. There is a story here! And all of you play a part in it."

Her voice is sugary sweet, but just a little sad. It sounds oddly familiar to everyone as well.

"Some time ago, somebody hurt me. Even now, it hurts to think about that..."

There's a pause, and they listen to the sound of the projector running for a second.

"This game will hopefully be like therapy for everyone here. I don't want to bring up bad memories for no reason, I want everyone to have a chance to heal! Even if you don't believe it now, all of you have a chance to get something important from this!"

"I'd like to leave you all with a bonus game. Whoever gets you-know-who to give an earnest apology to me will recieve a gift from me. Of course if I bribed you with money, that wouldn't make this game feel very genuine. So it's not going to be money. We'll just call it a gift."

"Thanks so much for listening! I hope you all are having fun! The game will continue soon!"

"Ooh! That one sounded good! I love my inflection there! Anyway, see ya or whatever!"

The film ends and the silhouette disappears.

Pink’s messages are ignored, and silence blankets the theatre once more. Eventually, the others that Vivienne is trembling at the back of the crowd, holding her parasol tightly to her chest. A look of shock is frozen on her face.

“W-Wait,” she eventually said, “That voice...I know that voice. B-But why...? When was this even filmed?”

She turned to the others and shouted, “That’s my sister, Iris DuGrande!”

"Iris... That was... Iris..." The Emissary agreed quietly, though it didn't sound like he'd heard Vivienne talking. He was shaking and staring down at the ground. "I'd know that voice anywhere. But... how? She was... she no longer... How?"

"Iris DuGrande?" Stella repeated quietly. She frowned at the blank screen as Cousteau fluttered off her shoulder to perch on the loveseat. "What on earth does this mean? Is she Zero? But that's not possible...right?" she wondered as she looked back at the other players.

"Hmph." Luka seemed dissatisfied with the structure of the current round, and instead looked at The Emissary. "Look, I don't know much, but I do know you've been a sad sack over this woman since the game's started. A gift is on the line, and all you have to do is say 'I'm sorry'. Hell, that's one of the only three things you need to know how to say to a woman, so this should be easy."
