Her knees began to buckle, but then all of a sudden wave of calmness seemed to pass over her and her eyes snapped open again to stare at the other passengers. "What... what happened here?" She asked, voice hoarse yet oddly monotonous.

“Apologies for the lateness!” Otto shouts. “Kyle and I had to get these, and it took us a little while!” Otto holds up a large stack of papers.
“I was actually the one who found them,” Kyle chimes in over the intercom. “So don’t say I never did anything for you people… Especially since I’m gonna be needing reference letters after this.”
“And what exactly are those?” Irene asks.
Otto explains, “Well, this whole ‘Killing Game’ thing kinda falls apart when more than one person is dead. So, these sheets will give you a run-down on the special rules for this trial.” He hands the entire stack to Bryan. “Here, take one and pass it down!”
Eventually, everyone has one of the sheets. They begin reading the text on them, which looks like it was written using a typewriter.
Spoiler: The Culpability Rules
“…What? Which one of you buffoons wrote this nonsense?” James asks, “Why can only one person be ‘the culprit?’ If I were in charge of this mess, you’d have to vote for everyone who had taken a life!”
Otto just shrugs, which looks especially comical thanks to his noodle-like arms. “Look, I just enforce the rules, I don’t make them. Ask the boss.”
“Oh believe me, I would love to have a lengthy, in-depth discussion with this ‘boss.’” James grumbles.
Otto flies over to his podium and slots himself into it, giving him control of the trial room once again. “Anyway, let’s get to the trial! Everyone, please return to your podiums. Quickly now! We don’t have all day!”
As everyone slowly makes their way back to the podiums, the only unoccupied one left lowers into the floor. The students watch grimly as it raises back up a few seconds later, a portrait of Abby with her face crossed out now occupying it.
A whirlwind of emotions fills the room, though most of the passengers are thinking the same thing.
Jerry… He was a gentleman through and through. He always knew how to stop violence with non-violence, and all he wanted in return was a few quarts of ice cream. Though his acceptance to the UJTS felt like a mistake, his death in this killing game certainly was one.
Abby… She was a quiet, thoughtful girl… and that’s all the students really knew about her. Many wished they had gotten the chance to know her before she was killed, but that chance was long gone. Everyone wondered the same thing… Who was she? And why had she been killed?
And the one who killed them was… one of us?

“In case you’ve been tuned out for the last hour or so…” Kyle says, “The point of this trial is to debate the identity of the culprit. You can vote for someone at any time… but maybe wait until you’ve actually done some debating first…”
“Oh, we’ve also prepared something to help you guys out! Take a look at the screen!” Otto says.
Everyone turns to the large screen at the back of the room, which now displays a large map. It shows a cross-section of the hotel, including an image of the adjacent skyscraper on which Jerry’s body was found.
“Oh, and I have a confession to make.” Otto shouts, “I may have gotten a little bored, so… I gave someone a special, exclusive item!”
The passengers mumble amongst themselves.
“Now, now, before you start making accusations, it was just the one item, and one of you guys happened to find it while investigating, so I’m sure you’ll get it figured out!”
“Anyway, let’s begin!” Otto says, “First, continue discussing your alibis and investigations! Good luck!”

"First me and Rinea were tasked with searching the hotel rooms. During our search, we found this one locked room. Room 3602. We managed to bust down the door, and that's when we discovered the bod-- Abby. That's when we found Abby."
He fishes out a crumbled piece of paper from his pocket. "I believe the only possible entrances besides the locked door were a small vent and an open window." he says, staring at the paper. "Both of these are problematic in their own way. The vent, as I said, was small. But I guess someone could crawl through with the right body type. But it was screwed shut from the room's side. And the window... Well, if it were me, I wouldn't pick it as an escape route. It opened pretty easily though." he crumbles the paper back into his pocket. "Besides these two, well, all I can think about is the door itself."

"I said it before, but Abby died of asphyxiation. There was a large cut on her neck, it was painfully obvious. Strangled, hung, whatever. I don't have any idea." She looks up, at nothing really, trying to remember what else she found.
"There were a bunch of bruises all over her body. Maybe shew was struggling or whatever? She was tied up around the legs, and her hands behind her neck." She nods to herself a couple of times as if she was checking off a list. "That should be it- OH! There was this white powder all over the place. On her, the sofa, and underneath. Dunno what it was. Maybe Abby was some druglord?"

"As for my investigations with Alex and the oaf director, we discovered one of the knives and a bottle of ketchup missing from the kiosk in the middle of the lounge. The knife is probably the one James took, and the ketchup was to fake blood maybe? Oh, and a few exercise straps were missing from the gym."

She pauses for a few seconds. "I shall begin explaining, now. After Bryan's announcement, I had gone to my room to drink some tea. At nine PM, I was in the party. Urumi and I were not quite enjoying it, thus we decided to leave after we spent some time there. After seeing Jack leave, I proposed that we leave as well, and so we did. Urumi went to the gym, while I headed to the lounge. I sat down on a couch, however-- shortly after, I had seen a blur fall past one of the windows. I looked into it, and I found nothing. Thus I had not thought anything of it."
She ponders for a while about her next words. "At around ten-fifty, I attempted to take the elevator to the roof as I was worn out. Strangely enough, the elevator did not move, even after several tries. Thus, I pressed the 'forty' button. Oddly enough, that did work, even if thr elevator was quite sluggish. At one point it stalled, but after a few kicks it managed to continue working... even if I am quite sure the kicks did not do much." Irene chuckles awkwardly.
Clearing her throat, she begins speaking again. "Today, at six-ten, Oscar, Alex and I had found Circe sobbing in a room. Leaving out most of the details, we had managed to heighten her morale a few. After searching a few more floors, we found nothing."
She pauses again. "Next, Bryan and I searched the ballroom, which is where Keri was. He said he would leap through the window to the lightning rod, and I told him it would have been far too risky... incredibly enough, he had managed to smoothly make it to the other side. I was impressed, to say the least. Thus, I investigated the ballroom on my own. There are a few things I found out."
Irene begins listing them, counting on her fingers. "Inside a trash can, there was a bottle labeled 'ottopoison'. It seems that a large quantity can kill someone, however, a small quantity delays the moment of death with no symptoms. The second thing I had noticed is that a balloon had its string caught inside the window. The third thing I had found was, obviously, the key on Keri. After that, I reunited with Bryan and we had to make our ways here."

A slot opens in the floor and a box is lifted up from the bottom. It seems to contain a large number of keys.
"All the rooms started out unlocked, but these keys were available to lock the doors! You could use them to lock a door from either side, and then it would be totally impossible to open! Without the key, of course."

"Bryan... ahem, 'Doctah Fun Timez' had asked me to help out with last night's party, putting up decorations and the like. Mostly balloons. Alright, all balloons. While he insisted on being the DJ, I still gave him some pointers so he knew what he was doing when things got started. This was all at about 8:00." He waves his hand dismissively.
"The party started an hour later, as you all know. I chatted, mingled, smoozed if you will. I pulled the captain- Raul, aside and asked him to guard the door, Doctah's orders. He snatched up Koi boy and said they'd take care of it. That was that, so I left them be. And when 10:00 rolled around, I took the stage and gave you all a dazzling performance. Nothing else much happened before clean-up. Oh, and a side note captain? One of the tables was missing its tablecloth. Just... a minor thing I'm pointing out, don't worry too much about it. Clean-up was at 11:00. All of us there heard a few bangs and clattering, and the elevator seemed to stop working. Whatever the issue was it seemed to have sorted itself out by midnight. And I think the intern rambled on about the lights and his college funds. Nothing important."
"Only thing that happened before the big discovery was that Alex, Irene, and I found Circe claiming to have faced some sort of divine retribution for her failure to play match maker?" The man shrugs. "She should have the finer details, but I think she's better now."
"As for the investigation, our good friends V.A.L., Raul, and Urumi joined me in investigating the hotel rooms. I found a whole lot of nothing too interesting, but the captain found one room had an open window, while the robot noticed one ironing board bent oddly and two others had bloodstains on floor 42? Nothing else until floor 39, where Florian updated me on how his adventures in babysitting good Mr. Clement had been going. The robot found one of the rooms was locked, a mystery we've seemed to solve by now, and one floor down (38, that is) Urumi noticed what she claims to be dried bloodstains outside one of the windows..."
With all said and done, Oscar actually bows and wipes a bead of sweat from his brow at the end of his speech. "I do believe I covered all the bases. Phew..."

After clearing his throat, he begins to speak once more. "Anyways, like Irene said, I went to the lightning rod to get a look at Jerry. God, it was even worse up close..." He shudders at remembering how the corpse looked. "So I looked over him, and he looked like he was beaten up, like, all over his body. And... his limbs looked like they were broken, too..." He sighs. "Whoever killed him must know how to fight pretty well."
Bryan wipes at his eyes before continuing to go over the details of his investigation of the body. "There were these... these straps wrapped around his arm. They were from the gym. And there was this... uh, this cord around his wrist. It kinda trailed off behind the building, and it was reeeeally long, too. Hung pretty far off from behind the building. Anyways, I told Irene what I found, and now we're here."

Keri's explanation just seemed to make Urumi angrier, yet for some reason she didn't say anything. She nodded at Boetius once he demanded answers. "...Just answer him. Oh, and what time did you leave the room?"

Keri shuddered at his words, before saying "there is much I should talk about. I can control my own heart rate, and am doing so now to better speak with you all, slowing it and forcing myself to be calm. It is a hereditary trait, though expressed stronger in me than my father it would seem. Most notably, I am able to slow my heart to a complete halt, effectively dying for a pre-determined period of time until I wake again. It is useful for infiltration - I do not breathe, I do not have need of comfort, I do not show on life sensors. I can curl up inside crates that are delivered to facilities I am to break into, passing through undetected. And here, I thought, I could use this same trick to make Otto think me dead, starting up a false trial that would break his own rules upon my reawakening."

I will speak up if someone's testimony contradicts my own memories. I left at around 10, when Oscar was taking the stage, and went to floor 42 where I again took the opportunity to prowl. I heard someone moving about in one of the rooms, and it struck me as suspicious, but once I entered it was empty. Nothing was out of place, and whoever I heard did not return. It was around now that I decided to put my feigning-death plan in motion, after a good night's rest. However the elevator would not take me to the roof and so I slept in a hotel room instead."
"The next day I found Raul in the gym at around 5:30. I told him of my plan, requested he look after my comatose body, and then stopped my heart. My memories, of course, end there."

"Alright. During the party last night, Koichi and I were tasked with guarding the door. Between 9 and 10 PM, we saw Jack, Jerry, Irene and Urumi, then Alex leave, in that order. Then some time after 10, we saw Circe, James, and Mitzi leave at the same time. As Oscar said, at 11 we were cleaning up, we heard some strange noise twice, and the roof button on the elevator had stopped working when I went to check it out. It somehow fixed itself later on, and we all went to our rooms."
"The other day, early in the morning, Keri showed up out of nowhere at the gym while I was exercising, and did...whatever it was that she did, claiming it was part of a plan to stop the game by making Otto hold a trial after no one had died. Florian, Urumi, and Mitzi showed up after, and that's pretty much all that happened before we all reunited at the ballroom."
"I didn't really find anything that stood out during the investigation, other than an open window in one of the rooms of the 42nd floor. I think that's all. It's probably for the best that we wait until everyone has given their alibis before trying to discuss the other parts of the case."

"Anyway... while what you did to Abby was really cruel, that isn't what we're worried about right now. We've gotta find the killer." He looked over at Keri. "You still had the key on you when you, uh... went into a coma, yeah? Maybe someone stole it while you were like that, broke into the room, and saw their opportunity to kill or somethin'?"
He put a hand to his chin, deep in thought. "If that's right, then there may be two murderers... One person killed Jerry, and another killed Abby..." He sighs and goes back to his thinking.

"I was at the party when it started around 9. Doesn't matter what I was doing before that. It's none of your business. I wasn't all that impressed with the entertainment, but I decided to give it a chance. Yeah, once the music started giving me a migraine, I knew that was a mistake, and the drinks only helped me deal with it so much. Like Her Majesty Irene said, we chatted a little and decided to bail. I went down to the gym to get some exercise in. I think it was around 10:30 when I decided to call it for the night, but the piece of junk elevator wouldn't take me back to the roof, so finally I got fed up, went down a floor, and just slept in one of the rooms there.
"This morning, I got on the elevator with Florian and Mitzi around ten after 6 or so. We went to the lounge, but nobody was there, so we decided to see what was going on at the gym and found Raul and Keri in her weird death trance. The other two started freaking out about how she was dead until I pointed out how there was no body announcement. I carried Keri to the elevator, the others got on with me, we went to the ballroom, and, well, you know what happened from there."
She took a breath before continuing. "...After the discovery, I went to check the hotel rooms with the others. We split up and still had to run to check as many as we could in an hour, which is not easy at ALL when you're wearing platforms. Just thought you should all know that. Anyway, the only thing I personally found of any note was the bloodstains on the window of one of the rooms on the 38th floor. V.A.L. found a couple things, but I'll let him? Her? It? explain them. I got about halfway through Floor 37 when I ran out of time and had to head back. That's about it."

"Mister Suarez, Mister Deño, and Mister Lewis helped me set up the party...Mister Suarez and Mister Lewis left to prepare the music, while I was left with Mister Deño to prepare food and drink. Then with the help of three big strong guys, we brought up a refrigerator to store Jerry's ice cream..." The butler frowns.
"The evening of the party, Mister Suarez was the DJ while I gave out beverages to everyone minus Miss Irene and Master V.A.L, who refused. It was such a fun time, if only for a moment.."
"However, when I looked back at the buffet, I noticed that someone had rearranged it! That was very strange." Florian nods. "It seemed that a new table with a large red cloth on it had been placed at the end of the white buffet table, and the food had been spread out across it...I thought that maybe one of the other party planners had decided to enlarge the buffet table, and just moved along.." The butler shrugs.
"Oh, oh! Another important detail, I think! Jerry asked me where the freezer had gone, because guess what? It was missing! When I tried to get back to Jerry about that, he was gone, and when I looped back to the display table, everything was back to the way it was at the beginning. Very, very strange if you ask me..!"
Florian then explains his investigation results. "Mister Clement and I explored Floor 39, but he insisted on splitting up, so...I-I guess I let him. While he went into one of the hotel rooms, I went the other direction, but all I could find in the rooms were some ironing boards, unlocked safes, and blocks of green, chalky rat poison resting on the shelves. Oh, and when I saw Mister Clement again, he said he found something interesting..."
Florian sighs. "I think that's all the important information I have to offer. Can we please find the killer now?" He asks with sincerity.

"Hmm... Maybe the poison was used to weaken his muscles or something like that, and not to kill him?" Bryan suggests, shrugging. "His limbs were all broken, and he was all beaten up, so... maybe they wanted to make sure he was vulnerable when they attacked? He was a big guy, so maybe that's why they'd be scared of losing a fight..."
After saying this, he glances over at Florian. "Did Mr. Director say what he found, or...?"
