Your honor, There is no point even having this dog and pony show of a trial. We have a decisive witness who saw the defendant fleeing, we have motive, we have evidence and we have a murder weapon with the defendant's prints. Although we have not found the pistol involved in the crime, the pen-knife with the defendant's prints on it is more than enough evidence, as the chain of causation legally says that the pen-knife is what started the chain of events, and would have killed him anyway.
