Now when Phoenix says in 2-4, that "he can't even save the person closest to him." This can be interpretted in different ways. It can be that he likes her D: or the fact that she's his best friend.
I noticed that too.
When Maya said "PEARLY! You're embarrassing me!" why not "You're embarrassing us!" Or doesnt Nick count here?
Maya must have told Pearls A LOT about Nick, and she interpreted (sp?) it that way.

andrx has the right idea. Trials and Tribulations not only proved to be a great game, but it also tied up the loose ends in the story. We now understand precisely why Pearls assumed what she did. She's more than a romantic. This is all she's seen her entire life. Always hopeful, she made this out to be a strong love between Nick and Maya. To doubt this belief would repeat the tragedy she's already seen time and time again, even in her own family.

Because there's nothing more embarrassing (IMO) than a family and friends of the family asking you are you and you best friend (who is the opposite gender of you) are dating or when are you going to get engaged? And I can't think of anything worse than if my second cousins, about 6-9, asking me about my love life when they haven't hit puberty yet. But that's me.
