I was playing through case 1 of Ace Attorney yesterday and noticed something. At the end of the case Mia talks to you about how trust in your client is the most important thing as a lawyer. Yet as soon as part two starts you get a little green secret detector that can see who's lying and who's not! Isn't this a little against the idea of having trust in your client?

You trust the client. The witnesses, on the other hand, are always hiding something important, and one of the witnesses is usually the murderer. You can't really trust these people. Besides, it's not like it immediately lets you see what you're hiding. You still have to get the truth with evidence like you do in court anyway.

I just beat 2-2 yesterday and just got the game yesterday as well. My friend showed my a comic of edgeworth and the psyche locks. Now if I could just find it....
Will: This person is clearly guilty because he was seen with his baggy pants on.
Hernicz: Objection, your honor. This is clearly discrimination against people that like to feel the air in their underpants.
Judge:(sigh) Objection sustained.

There is a difference between trusting someone and finding out that someone is lying. Even the most trustworthy people can and sometime do lie even if it is by accident (viva bad memory, minor detail mistakes, etc.) So, the Magatama allows you to see who is lying but it's still up to the person using it to decide if they are trustworthy or not.

You mean Game 2 right?

Anyway, I see the Magatama as being useful for finding out people's secrets, and not as a lie detector.

So I don't really see it at cheating, just "using my iniative".

Just as an aside, imagine what damage Redd White could do if he had one of these things! :ack:

AHHHHH DON'T GIVE ME NIGHTMARES!!!

I thought that it would only show you the person is lying if the person was lying on purpose.

Plus if Phoenix has no reason to believe they're lying, locks won't appear.

Even if the Magatama could be considered "cheating", that's not the point to it right?

Being a lawyer isn't a competiton or a sport, it's a means of discovering the truth in the mist of secrets and lies, and determining who's innocent and who's guilty. When a person's life is on the line, can the idea of being "fair or unfair" be in question?
