During one of the court recesses in 2-4, Pearl stops channelling Mia and tells Phoenix that Mia was called away by a very strong power (Maya). There are two contradictions in this scene:

1) We learn in Trials and Tribulations that a spirit can only be channelled by one medium at a time, and any attempts to channel a spirit that is already being channelled will fail. Therefore Maya would not be able to 'call' Mia, because she was still being channelled by Pearl.

2) We are told in 2-2 that Pearl is a much more powerful medium than Maya, so even if it were possible for Maya to call Mia while Pearl was channelling her, she would not be powerful enough to do so.

They could be put down to the fact that the games don't go into a lot of detail about the Kurain Channelling Technique, but that scene during the court recess does directly contradict other facts about channelling that were presented in other cases.

1) As far as we know the spirit is free to leave the body whenever they please. In 3-5 Dahlia believed Pearl was already channeling her so when Pearl actually tried to channel Dahlia it didn't work most likely because Dahlia refused to leave, even though she might have been alerted that someone else wanted to channel her.

2) At 2-4 Mia and Pearl were incredibly concerned with making sure Maya was okay. So Mia might have been alerted (like I suggested) and left Pearl to go to Maya. As for Pearl thinking a stronger medium called on Mia- she's suppose to think that. Pearl was raised as part of the Branch Family and branch family members are considered inferior in power to Main Family members such as Maya.

But Pearl didn't know it was Maya who called Mia, all she knew was that it was a 'strong power'. Comparitively, it shouldn't have been a strong power at all.

I sort of considered Maya's level of stress; the first game says that Maya would never be able to do something as strong as channeling a spirit, but then she does because Phoenix is so close to giving up. Willpower obviously has a lot to do with it. The fact is, Maya would have died had she not been able to call Mia for help; she needed her more than at any other time.
It's hard to explain with certaincy what was different at the bridge; it's mostly possible that Dahlia was very resistent to being called away, or that Maya was already beginning to become a much stronger medium. (keep in mind: She channelled Dahlia in the Inner Temple; a place filled with powerful spiritual artifacts)

It's assumed that Maya called on Mia, considering that at the time of 2-4

-Morgan is in jail (and had no spirit channeling powers according to her)
-Dahlia, while alive, also lacks spiritual power
-Iris lacks spiritual power too
-Misty is MIA so we can assume that she has no reason to channel Mia.

So we can easily say it's Maya. Consider the fact that all throughout 2-4 Mia has been switching in and out of Pearl and Maya.

Well, it could be possible that there WAS a contradiction, and Maya channeling Mia should NOT have happened.
It could just be an unexplained phenomenon. Maybe. Because, don't forget, Spirit channeling is very unpredictable, (and I know from past experiences), and that could easily have been a fluke. Pearl was stressed because Maya was on trial, and it was possible she had a weaker hold on Mia than normal, and Maya was desperate, so that would also have had a factor.
But, then again, it could have been an accident.
