Okay. This is what I'm thinking.
- Winston Payne is ALWAYS the FIRST prosecutor you face in every GS/PW game, correct?
Spoiler: Small GS3/PW3 Spoiler
- Mia Fey's second trial was with Mr. Grossberg, against Winston Payne.
- Mia Fey's First case was with Javado, against Young Miles Edgeworth.

WOULDN'T IT MAKE SENSE THE OTHER WAY AROUND?
Wouldn't Mia take on Winston Payne in her first case, canon wise?
Spoiler: Small GS3/PW3 Spoiler
It just seems a bit harsh on Mia that she has to face a hard Young Miles in her first case.

In other words:
- Mr. Grossberg should have been helping Mia on her FIRST case. Not her second case.
- Javado Should have helped Mia on her SECOND case.
- However.... While these statements above are true to the cases available in order, they are NOT true, canon wise.

Spoiler: Small GS3/PW3 Spoiler
In short, as far as canon wise goes, Mia Fey faced Winston Payne in her second trial (where it should have been her first), and faced Young Miles Edgeworth in her first trial (where it should have been her second).

I think I might confuse some people here. Ack

I think you're thinking too hard.

Payne is always the first prosecutor of the game, but in JFA it obviously wasn't Phoenix's first case. He doesn't just go against newbies. It just seems that Payne is often pitted against rookies because those are the only ones he can beat. :P

Well... I guess that makes more sense, if it was his first case too. It just seems like he would be more aggressive to Mia than Winston Payne. Detective Gumshoe

Payne is just arrogant, but that quickly gets heaved out the window the second something doesn't go his way.

Spoiler: In other words
The more hair he has, the more aggressive he is :P

Too lazy... hur hur.

Payne's power level is... OVER 9000!

Sorry. Couldn't help it.

As for the game... I think the game is set up for Payne to be your first opponent for gameplay purposes. He's a good person to learn how to play the game against since he's pretty easy, compared to Edgeworth or the von Karmas. I don't think it's really supposed to be that he's the first guy Phoenix, Mia, Odoroki, or any other defense attorney faces necessarily, just that he's there for you to catch on to the basics of gameplay.
