"Chinami Miyanagi = Dahlia Hawthorne. Not sure of the reference on that one yet."

You all might have already figured it out, but I'm pretty sure I understand the last name reference. Nathanial Hawthorne was a famous American poet, and Chinami is into poetry in the first case. But the first name, I'm clueless on. What do you all think?

According to Croik:

English: Dahlia is the name of a flower, but is especially well known from the murder mystery The Black Dahlia. Her last name may be a reference to her "having thorns."

I'll just C+P my thoughts from a thread.

Hawthorne is a tree or bush, which has thorns. Dahlia is a flower. So, it could be read as flower with thorns. Sound right?

Hm.. When I think of hawthorne, I think of those flat disc-like Chinese sweets that old style herbalists use to cover up the bitter taste of their medicines.

And when I read Hawthorne I think of the poet, and her poetry.
And also, I think of being wealthy, as for some reason the name strikes me as a name that is old and fancy and etc etc.
Even when the body dies, the spirit, the ego, it lives on... forever.

^ Yeah. What they said.

I actually like the name now, though. I wonder what they're gounna call Ayame, though. Probably some kind of flower to go along with Dahlia.

Ayame literally translates to Iris, so there you go.

Maybe they used the last name to tackle both of those. A poet and a thorned plant. It definitely makes sense both ways.

It could be a very clever way of showing all of these things.

Since Hawthorne is in reference to 'having thorns', she makes he think that her name should Rose Hawthorne, since roses have thorns.

IMO, Rose would make a much better first name than Dahlia.

Though, I think Capcom knew about the fan translation project for GS3, and the name was.. god I forgot it now.. Was it Dolores... anyways, the nickname they used was Dolly so, yea.. My brain is tired and cant think straight, but that is my 2cents on the matter, I must go and give my brain the proper rest it deserves!

I like Rose better, but roses have thorns, therefore, it wouldn't work.

Do you guys know that a guy in Dead Rising is named Tad Hawthorne? Another similarity between PW and DR.

Maybe they also put that into consideration when they thought of her name.

To my amusement, there is a place near UK, Kent called 'Hawthorne'. We were dropping my cousin off when I saw a sign saying 'Hawthorne' and I was like '0_0'.

I'll have to take a picture when I got down my Grandparents house.

As for name, I always think of the 'hot red thorns'. Referring to the fact she has horns. :chinami:

Well, Dead Rising and Phoenix Wright are developed by the same company so it's not too surprising that two titles sharing the same company title would have characters whose names are identical to each other's.

Also, 'sup RS! It's me, Powdered Toast Man if you didn't know.

I don't think that means anything other than the same name.

Spoiler: GS3 and Dead Rising
While Dahlia is a mean-spirited bitch, Tad is just a regular guy, who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Both April May and Freddie May (Dead Rising survivor who gets wasted during the Entrance scuffle) share the same last name as well. Nothing special...

Hawthorne can also refer to the "Hawthorne effect", which has something to do with worker behaviour changing when the workers know they're being watched.
Spoiler:
In other words, Dahlia pretends to be nice because she knows that everything she does in the courtroom as a witness will affect the trials she was involved in.
