Basically, Gumshoe in case 2 says something like: The new prosecutor goes by the name of Godot :godot: and it was Prosecutor Edgeworth :edgeworth: himself that told everyone that he was so great blah blah blah... but then, in Case 5... Edgeworth just don't have a clue about this Godot guy.

I can think of two reasons for this apparent contradiction:

1) Gumshoe misunderstood what Edgeworth said entirely
2) Edgeworth doesn't remember if he said Godot was leet-awesome or not

That's all I can think of. Although, with it being Gumshoe I highly suspect that the first option is more likely to happen.

It was Atmey who claimed that Edgeworth called Godot the best prosecutor. Gumshoe does say later that even though Godot "just showed up one day", he's clearly not a newcomer to law though.

Godot did not take a single case as a prosecutor before 3-2 (he's only interested in facing Phoenix). Any "reputation" he has can only be from him sulking around the Prosecutor's office. Atmey was probably just bullshitting Phoenix to make him worried about the trial.

Spoiler: Slight 3-3
While 3-2 is definitely Godot's first case, if you show Godot's profile to Gumshoe in 3-3, he says that Godot cancelled a bunch of more important cases to work on Maggey's case, which would seem to indicate that Godot did actually prosecute other trials asides from the ones Phoenix worked on.

Cancelled, or refused? I don't remember the original wording in the Japanese, but I'm pretty sure that Godot never took a case that Phoenix wasn't defending. That's why he's a prosecutor at all.

Cancelled. I remember, because I was a little surprised as I thought Godot only took cases Phoenix was defending.

Edit: Because it was annoying me. :shoe:

Spoiler: minor 3-3
Show Godot's profile to Gumshoe:
:sadshoe: That's the guy who's gonna be the prosecutor in Maggey's retrial tomorrow.
:phoenix: O-oh, really?
:sadshoe: He was working on a bunch of more important cases at the moment...but he cancelled them all just so he could take you on, pal.
:phoenix: (Why's that guy so determined to see me fail...?)

Well, even vengeful spirits back from hell have to eat. Plus, you know, years of hospital bills. Makes sense why he would take cases while waiting for Phoenix to get his ass in gear and pick something up.
