Over this game and the last game, Pearl has several times said something like, "You'd do anything for Mystic Maya, right Mr. Nick? You'd even walk over hot coals!" And as it turned out that's pretty much exactly what Phoenix did.

Heh, true, but I think we can all agree that he failed rather badly on the "walking over hot coals" part! Now if she'd said he'd risk falling to his death for Mystic Maya.... :edgy:

I wanna know what made him think he'd survive running over a rickety burning bridge.

:phoenix: Hm..Fire+Brittle wood=..Safe crossing! Good thing I paid attention in science!

I think that maybe he was just a little panicked at the time. He probably wasn't exactly thinking straight. I know I wouldn't be if I just saw an impaled body, a frantic old lady, and a burning bridge. Even if he IS a defense lawyer, that doesn't mean he'd totally keep his cool in times of crisis. All he knew was that Maya was on the other side of the bridge, and he didn't know anything else. Heck, the killer could have been over there stabbing Maya at that very instant, as far as he knew. >>

So, yeah, I think him running across the bridge thinking he could save her was justified. Even if it was stupid.

Also, lol pearly's a psychic.

At first, I'd thought Maya was ON the bridge, which would have made sense. DEFENSE ATTORNEY TO THE RESCUEEEEE, DOO DO DOOOOU!
But, when I heard she was on the other SIDE. Away from the murder...away from the fire...away from all the insanity (Well, as it appeared at the moment, anyway)...So WHY would he run across? What would he do when he got there? He could have called a police helicopter. Eventually ._.
I guess panic decreases his sense of logic more than a usual person. For Maya's issue? Well, in the words of Mitch Hedberg, "If you're lost in the woods (or a temple 8D), f*ck it, build a house."
....
She could do it if she tried.

He'd do something heroic, I'm sure. Or, at least, he thought he would. Maybe he thought that just by getting there he could help her somehow.

What I kinda thought to begin with was that there could have been more than one murder. Like, crazy psycho guy in the mountains who kills poor innocent spirit channelers and
Spoiler: case 3-5
their mothers.
The very idea that Maya COULD BE in danger and that Phoenix could do NOTHING ABOUT IT probably made him even more frantic.

I guess I should probably say now that I don't really like PhoenixxMaya. I think of them more as siblings than anything else. There's even a more Father-Daughter type dynamic between them rather than a romantic thing. That doesn't really change that Phoenix would be REALLY REALLY concerned if she was in danger, though, which is the point I guess I'm trying to get across. >>

And the helicopter thing... A helicopter wouldn't be able to make it to the temple anyway. I think I remember Gumshoe saying something about it being to turbulent to get to it or something. In any case, there was some reason that the helicopter couldn't get there.

Wait, what would Maya be able to do? Build a house? Or cross the bridge? Sorry, you really lost me there. :knock-knock:

The only thing I don't get is, it would have gone like this:

:phoenix: Maya, I've come to save you!
:maya: That's great, Nick! I---
*bridge turns to ash*
:maya-shock: Oh, man! What do we do now?!
:phoenix: ....pray we don't die?...ROCK, PAPER SCISSORS...

Okay,okay, slightly illogical.

It's amazing how a certain other lines turn out to be true in TaT, not just that one from Pearl.

Spoiler:
In 3-2 Pearl mentions how if Phoenix gets popular enough he'd get an imitator of his own, which actually happens in the next case.

Aw, I don't think Apollo's trying to imitate Nick, he's just trying to be a good ace attorney. :sadshoe:

If anyone's ripping off an ace attorney, it's Nick himself, not 'Pollo.

Spoiler: 3-5 End
After all, Nick and Mia have the exact same OBJECTION! pose, as Godot realizes himself. Their arm motions are almost identical. :P

Speaking of that similarity, I love how the creators provided evidence for three different kinds of Phoenix shippers in 3-5.

:maya: lulz Mia/Diego = Ace Attorney/Side Bar and Man\Fey-in-Danger = Phoenix/Maya
:edgeworth: yeah... Edgeworth's straightness... wasn't helped by 3-5...
:ayame: lulz ending.

Hmmm...

"Special Ultra Course" - Phoenix & Maya sex
"Honeymoon suit" - Phoenix & Maya get married?

Any other things she's said that could mean something?

EDIT: And no, Edgey's straightness is officially non-existent after this line:

"Good luck today... partner."
Phoenix is totally Jewish.

You could probably say the same for Phoenix as you would Apollo, concerning his 'Objection!' pose being identical to Mia's.

Mia was his mentor after all; he probably followed some of her in-court poses as a rookie and practiced the poses like he did with his 'Objection!' before his first case. [Ironically, Apollo practices objecting before his first case as well. XD] The poses probably just stuck with him after that. Remember, Phoenix didn't know much about the profession [he was merely considering it at first] after he pretty much decided to become a lawyer on a whim, since he was attending Ivy University to pursue a career in acting before his sudden change of profession.

As for Apollo...I'd have to agree; he is just trying to be an 'Ace Attorney', you can't blame the kid. XD I mean, he probably saw a number of trials when he was younger [possibly with Phoenix as the defense attorney] and just going 'Hey, it'd be cool to be like that when I grow up.'

(And, as Joystiq.com said, his name would severely limit his career choices. ["...to either a lawyer or a cast member on a remake of American Gladiators."] XD)

XD That happened near the last part/trial of 3-5, didn't it? [If I'm remembering things correctly.]

Edgeworth's straightness was non-existent waaaay before that; during the time in which you were investigating as him.

One of the reasons might be his obliviousness to the fact that many women have a thing for him, or as he stated, he had no clue that he inspired such a 'frothing desire from the female masses'. XD

The fact that he gets so embarrassed when Phoenix [after the earthquake at Hazakura Temple] restates that he became a defense attorney solely for him, and that he has no regrets in doing so influences his non-heterosexuality as well. [This only happens if you present the attorney's badge to Edgeworth in the garden, by the way.]

But, that's just my inner fangirl talking to you all, so... XD

He also said that Franziska made a good partner, so I wouldn't make too much of that line. ^^ It's pretty much building on the theme brought up in 2-4, about the prosecution and the defense working as a team to uncover the truth.[/color]

Hah, I never thought Edgeworth was gay. He's just a rather terse, no-nonsense fella that doesn't take or give any sort of positivity very well (WOOOOOP DETECTIVE GUMSHOOOOOE...I feel foolish). At least, that was in the first game. In the second and third, he felt a lot more confident in his social skills and more open to giving credit where credit is due. Of course his rivalry with Phoenix turns into a friendship during 2-4, so the partner line felt natural in 3-5.

Edgey-poo is all man.
