I doubt the awareness (and relevance)of this sort of name pun, but I found it rather amusing.

Ms. Foster
Miss Foster
Missfoster means "freak of nature" or "deformed person" in Swedish.
Foster by itself means fetus.

Which she is...not?

All I know is that on the most recent episode of "Criminal Minds", there was a witness by the name of "Melissa Foster"...

... And since she was ONLY a witness, (Formerly a prostitute, but changed her job occupation after she was nearly killed, to being a Bartender), I felt no need to post it until now. :gymshoe:

I love Criminal Minds!! I'm drawing a blank though as to which episode that was in though. On topic, thanks for sharing that tidbit with us. There are so many in-jokes and name puns in AA, I always enjoy when someone points one out, especially when it's not in a language I know! :will:

It was a VERY recent episode... Hmm... Lemme think of any other parts of it...

The unsub's signature is as follows: He takes women back to their home (Never his, except for the last one), he slices open their abdomen, then makes them clean up their own blood using 3 cleaning products. Then, he puts them together in the form of a triangle (As in, the three bottles), and that's normally how they're found in the area of the body.

He also has a scar on his face... specifically, above his eye.

It's also worth adding that when I first heard the name, I yelled "OH, YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!"

The "Foster" part is because she's a foster child, and from the japanese name. Don't know where they got Melissa, though. I doubt it was because of that Swedish reference...

Melissa sounds simliar to "malicious", which is like her Japanese name which IIRC meant something like "vengeful foster child". So malicious foster child is a mirror of it.

Also, Melissa is the name of a plant, just like Dahlia.

Really? With Iris, Dahlia, and Melissa... I'm surprised Valerie wasn't named Rose or something.

That could be why they chose "Melissa" over a more well-known plant like Daisy or Rose or something.

Linguistics Protip: "Valerie" is the originally french, and later english-ified version of the SPANISH name Valeria, from which come Valerian and Valeriana. =)
