Dang-it. Someone beat me to suggesting Lilith... Chimani

Phoenix's nickname of that would probably be Lilly. Sick

I can't recall if anyone mentioned this, but what about SAMUEL for Kaminogi? Samuel Beckett wrote "Waiting for Godot", so it'll be in the theme of that.

Chimani - Delilah Rose (Delilah for the biblical figure, and Rose, as an ironic statement of innocence and love)

Godot - ...leave this one be.

Yuusaku - I like the name Jamie Sweet, whoever suggested it before.

Mareka - Harley Sweet, for her love of bikes

Aiga - Allen Doyle, for two famous authors of detectives, Edgar Allen Poe and Arthur Conan Doyle

Kamen Mask - Cowl de Masque

Kaminogi could be called Estragon.

I like that name, and there is something of a pun there.

The play Waiting For Godot was originally written in French, but was translated to English a few years after it's original publishing.

Waiting for Godot was indeed written in French, but it was written by an Irishman and stars two Russians and features two Italians.

I wonder if keeping the name as Kamen Mask would make the joke of his name too obscure to people without knowledge of Japanese. Maybe they could call him the Masked Mascarilla? If Babelfish isn't lying to me, that would translate from Spanish as "Masked Mask". In that vein, here's a quick little linguistic redundancy brainstorm:

Enmascarado Mask or The Masked Enmascarado. I think I really like this one.
Sombra Shadow

The literal spanish translation of "art thief" into spanish (ladrón del arte) gives me the idea of Artie Ladd or some variant thereof for Yuusaku. Arthur Laddie? I LOVE IT

I think having a palindromic name might be a bit too difficult and awkward to put into English for Takao and Keiko.

For them, I say make Takao 'Linus Macintosh', for the Linux Operating System and the Apple Macintosh.

For Keiko Koike, Eunice Cobalt. Eunice for 'UNIX', and Cobalt both for the programming language COBAL, and her highly blue outfit and hair.

Really, we're probably all trying too hard. It's not like EVERY name in the first two games was some sort of double-meaning pun in the same vein as their Japanese counterparts.

Case #1 -- Turnabout Memories

Chimani --- Hellen Halrad. As you know a halrad is a Chinese for shield.

Chimani's nickname for Phoenix -- Birdy. A Phoniex is a type of a bird.

Case #2 - Stolen Turnabout

Godot -Keep the same

Godot's insult for Phoenix -- Mr. Nix Wright. Nix is slang for "nothing".

Aiga - Authur Poe -- Name from two fathers of Mystery--Ellen Edger Poe and
Authur Connon Doyle.

Yuusaku -- Carmen York. Carmen is from Carmen Isaballa Sandiego. Carmen can be
use for both male and female. York is a common last name.

Yuusaku's wife -- Mike York. Mike is a common male name.

Case #3 - Manual For A Turnabout

Igarashi - William Butter. Butter is a type of bean.

Zenitora - Jay Lion -- Jay is another type of bird. Lion is pun on "lying" since he faked Phoenix

Keiko -- Anna Wires -- First name is the palidone part. The section uses part of a comptuer: wires.

Chef - Kevin Knife -- Simple enough for you?

Cleaning Bomber -- Mess Bomber.

Uramidn - Trisha Goon.

Uramidn's dad -- Gary Goon.

Case #4 - First Tourabout

Unknown. I let Capcom handle this one.

Case #5 - Phoniex's Best Turnabout

Ayame -- Angel Halred.

So what do you think, sir?

QUestion: Does 'Maruhodo' end up translating into anything? Just wondering, because if it's more of a nonsensical, purposeful misnaming, I was thinking that Godot could simply do something like calling Phoenix 'Mr. Wight' or 'Mr. Wry'. Something simple that just pulls off a letter or two. But if it actually translates into something...then I'd have to think of something that preserves the spirit of that insult. ^^;

Anyway, :urami: and her grandfather could have the last name Toomes (for Tombs). First names, though, no idea.

Alright, I don't necessarily like these, but I'm offering input.

Zenitora : Donny "Tiger Shark" Cortigris. From Don Corleone, and the Latin word for tiger.
Chimani : Amelia Wyvern. Amelia meaning likeable, Wyvern to give her the same naming convention as Phoenix.
:urami: : Lolita Gotico, Italian for gothic lolita. Seriously, she looks nine years younger than her actual age.
Javado You guys aren't thinking subtly enough. Any good translation would have to keep this guy's name on the level of Cindy Stone and company. Maybe something along the lines of Fox Charleston, Fox being the name of Dumbledore's pet Phoenix in Harry Potter. Personally, I think the whole "Souryuu" thing is another play off of the "Ryu" in Ryuichi. It IS the name of a famous dragon, after all.

Also, this is my first post. I'm just going to act like I've always been here.
I haven't been hit by a car, nobody's coming at me with a switchblade, the tectonic plates aren't splitting apart, and it isn't raining blood, so I guess this is a good day!

That's funny. I thought the phoenix's name was Fawkes. :/

And, I'm sure a lot of us here know that "Souryuu"'s just a play off "Ryuu". Unfortunately, the whole "Javado Beckett" thing has drawn people to think up more coffee-related or Samuel Beckett-related names, rather than dragon-related ones.

Besides, I hardly think any dragon-related names would be good enough to top Souryuu... Oh, wait.

Simoun. Hell yeah. :P

Aiga I have two, one's a normal one and another just awful one. The normal one is Drew Hardy. The awful one is Mortimer Artie. I'll let you figure out the pun there, the hint is that Gumshoe calls him by a nickname, a shortened form of Mortimer.

Well he's a detective of the Sherlockian cliche style, so why not call him Morty Artie? I know he doesn't DESERVE the title but I thought it was funny.

Course Chimani could be that pun as well with Mary Artay perhaps?
