I point to Will Powers, Sal Manella, Jack Hammer, Lotta Hart, Ini Miney... their names were all puns. They also don't really reflect their actual characters at all.

Not all names are going to be like that, keep that in mind. I don't think they were thinking "I Desire Delight" when they named Mareka (though she does have expensive tastes...), I think if anything, the DeLite was just meant to evoke the same response as Amasugiru's "super sweet." Because it does sound like some sort of candy.

Luke Atmey aside, not all of these names are sentences in and of themselves. >.>

I think it's pretty clever, actually. amasugiru means "too sweet" both in the sense of "you are too sweet!" and "this candy is too sweet" and "DeLite" can refer to both a happy feeling and food (like "strawberry delite").

[Doesn't Amasugi's name also mean "too naive" in japanese o_o?]

I'd have thought the chef would be named something like Frou Frou, Pierre, Francois or some other flowery name.....

I LOVE "Luke Atmey"

Edit: Unsure if it's been noted yet but apparantly from gamefaqs:

Mareka Amasugi = Desiree DeLite

Yuusaku Amasugi = ????? DeLite

Yuusaku and Desiree have a last name: DeLite.

Kaoru Hondobou = Jean Armstrong

For some reason, the only thing that comes to my mind for a first name is Barry; Barry Kudo = Baracuda. Whether that's meritable or not; I'm not really sure...

I've been lurking for a while, and I suppose I don't want people to get their hopes up...

I don't mean to be rude, and not to go against what Croik has graciously written up, but Shibakuzo doesn't really mean "Fuck you"...

It's actually slang that means something closer to "I'm gonna beat the crap outta you!".
People just take the liberty to turn it into "Fuck you" for flow in fansubs...
(しばく shibaku → to strike, hit ; ~ぞ ~zo → common slang ending in Kansai dialect to emphasize your point)

For those of you who can read Japanese, there's a good chunk about the origin and use of the word here:

http://www.lares.dti.ne.jp/~denjin/text/lesson04.html

So I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom gave Zenitora something very different from what we're all expecting (profanity issue aside)...

I was using a general term. Also Croik says "roughly translating". Not to mention it's a slang word.

Shibakuzo is Kansai slang roughly meaning "Fuck you!"

And personally, I'm not expecting anything to do with that, I'm expecting tigers. :karma:

Ah, sorry. I wasn't directing that at you personally ^^;

I guess I've just seen a lot of posts on other threads where people really think it literally means that, so I just quoted you since the issue was brought up again.

And yeah, I'm expecting more tigers than anything. The guy literally roars like one! There's no way they can pass up on that, I'd think!

Ah, no probs. My mistake. My three reasons for Zenny=Tiger name are...

1. The whole RAWWWWWWR thing.
2. His shirt.
3. I think his last name (or first I unno, damn Japanese placement) means "tiger boy" or something...

Wasn't Mareka taken from Takumi's friend, or someone he knew...? Maybe everyone was thinking too hard into it thinking that there was some dark secretive meaning behind the name...

Though someone pointed out that she did have quite an expensive taste - her "desire" for expensive objects... It could very well be a pun on that.

Huh... Someone beats me to the whole Zenitora thing. Even though "F You", to some extent, is an equivalent to "I'm going to beat you up", but most people don't see it that way - at least not initially. So there could be those individuals (who don't know Japanese) would make a really big deal out of it if Zenitora's name does not resemble any cuss word... Because... Well - it's not supposed to.

It's possible that Zenitora's first name will be Tre.

This is because of this.

JAP: Toraebien *Sounds like* Tora est bien i.e. Tora(nosuke) is good.

ENG: TresBien *sounds like* Tre's bien i.e. Tre is good.

Just a random thought. :yogi: :yogi:

If the DeLites are going to be French-ish (ugh, I really don't like that name), maybe Yuusaku will have to be LUPIN~!!!!

*ahem*

I've never come across "shibakuzou" personally, so I got my defination from somewhere online (been a while, don't remember where). But a lot of times translators change things like "kisama!" to "damn you!" instead of just "you!" and stuff like that because it makes more sense to an English speaker. Which isn't to make excuses, I'm just saying, that's where the CR version came from.

And "amasugiru" does mean "too sweet," but I'm used to watching shonen anime where it's more often used as "too weak" or "too naive" so that's what I thought of when writing up the 3-2 page. Because they're both very sweet, but they're also just as naive...

I should probably make extra notes on those profiles :B

DeLite sounds more Italian than French to me. Maybe it's because of Louis DeNonno (Hotel Dusk) and the fact that Kyle points out that he's Italian.

Chinami Miyanagi => Dahlia Hawthorne
Kikuzou Nonda => Doug Swallows

Credits to Jaeger Jaguar who played the demo at Comic-con.

Doug Swallows reminds me of Doug Heffernan, not good. And I love the "hawt" in Hawthorne >___>

Oh, and I immediately thought of "Hawk" and "thorn" when seeing Hawthorne.

Nononono, Hawt-horn-e = Hawt & Horny.

*gatling gun'd*

But yeah, what Darzie said, it's likely the tree they're referring to (which is commonly spelt hawthorn, by the way) There are lots of myths and folklore stories about the tree around the net, they're pretty interesting to read.
What made me think of Dahlia when reading about the tree & lores is that the fruits that grows on the trees are bloody red and the tree itself is associated with fire and fairies in many folklores.
Spoiler: Referring to her adventures in 3-1?
What's TEH interesting though is that in the Teutonic (a.k.a Germanic) lores hawthorn was the symbol of death. Wooo nasty.

...That makes a bit sense. But I think I'm thinking too hard >____>
