At the begining of Case 2 in Trials and Tribulations, we get a quick recap of what happened in the second game, Justice for All, primarily focusing on the second case in that game. Maya says that she is "still shook up" by those events, the murder of Dr. Grey and her trial. But replaying that case, I found my self thinking: what about being f***ing kidnapped! I think that Maya would be more traumatized by being kidnapped by Shelly than the events at Kurian. Thoughts?

That's a good point. I could say that because Kurain is the sheltered home Maya had always grown up in, it was more traumatizing to her to realize that awful stuff happens there, too. Remember, she nearly went to jail for murder and found out her own aunt had tried to frame her.

But really, I think the reason the writers focused more on that case of JFA in the recap is because it was more important to the storyline, especially when you get to case 5 of T&T. :edgy:

The events in 2-2 would have been more traumatic than 2-4 because in 2-2 not only is she shot at, knocked unconscious and shoved in a box while she takes her first channelling job as a full-fledged medium, but she realises her own aunt hates her so much she will stoop to murder and pinning the murder on Maya to try and dispose of her. That's even more traumatic then being kidnapped as a bargaining pawn, since it wasn't like Engarde/deKiller hated Maya specifically. (Though we're being relative here.) Since the kidnapping is over and Engarde is in jail, she can get over it, but the events of 2-2 just show Maya that the position of [future] Kurain Master she's expected to take means that even close relatives hate you, resent you and try to kill you.

Those are both good points. However, Maya was drugged before anything happened. I believe she says that she sat down to do the channelling, and forgets everything after that. But there's a continuty issue here: Maya seems her normal perky self in 2-3 and the begining of 2-4.

And in 3-2 and 3-3, she is her normal self, even if she is a bit more mature.
Which is not surprising, since she had sex with Phoenix after 2-4 *shot*

1. The games wouldn't work if she's moping around..
2. She likes being with Phoenix and is happy with him. The ongoing trauma from the 2-2 would be with the larger issue of her life and having to become Kurain Master, when it's obvious the whole position and tradition has caused so much divisiveness.

As we learn in 3-5, Maya is a lot stronger than she lets on. 2-2 shook her up quite a bit, and may still shake her up, but she lives through it and leaves it in the past. She just probably doens't want to talk about it a lot.

Let's not bring that up again. >_o
And she didn't appear to change in 3-2 and 3-3...she seemed the same, if you ask me.

I think Maya's belief in Phoenix is what got her through the tough times experienced during 2-4. Also, Shelly promised not to kill her if Phoenix did his job, and Maya knew he'd find a way out of the sticky situation.
