Did anyone else catch the reference to "Waiting for Godot" in 3-2? It was something like:

:aiga: Yes, Godot. He is such the man, that some people spent their entire lives waiting idly for him.

or something to the same effect.

I didn't catch it until my second playthough =/

*Gasp* :agia-shock:

You sir! Go to your library THIS INSTANT!

How could anyone even appreciate Godot's name if they haven't read the famous play that INSPIRED IT!

Oh just go read Wikipedia, it'll be easier

(the lit student is huffy)

Its a play. One of those that is meant to make you think about existance itself.
I had to read it in drama.

Its about a couple of guys sitting around in a mysterious place waiting for a mysterious man named "Godot"

What the characters dont realize and is up to the reader to figure is that out that they are dead and in limbo waiting for 'god'.

As for the ' referance ' I dont know, I havent gotten that far in the series.

I see. I never studied that one, even in school. Must be due to the religious overtones.

It's really more to do with philosophy and the state of human existence than a religion per se.

There are a couple of references in the game as I recall.
"Independence is my happiness, and I view things as they are, without regard to place or person; my country is the world, and my religion is to do good". - Thomas Paine

Ahh interesting. That makes me want to read it now :damon: .. Can anyone who's read the play interpret for me why Capcom chose to name him Godot? Just from reading the summary, it sounds more like he would be one of the guys waiting for Godot instead of being Godot himself o.O..

That's a misnomer. In the original French, the name Godot doesn't remotely resemble the French word for 'God', so there's no explicit connection.

Although afterwards, Beckett did say he was prolly inspired by Christian imagery and stories, since that was the background he was raised in.

Otherwise though, the play is really about two guys talking and dwelling on existence.

I read the book this summer so I could catch any references they put in...

I was a bit disappointed that that was the only one though... :yuusaku:

Actually, I think there were two references. I think
Spoiler: 3.5 Mega Spoilers
When Godot/Diego is talking about his coma, he says "When I woke up, no one was waiting for me." or something along those lines.

Yeah, it's excellent. I read it a few years ago, now I'm looking for a nice hardcover copy of it for my library.

Definitely should watch it performed; it's a play so it shouldn't just be just read.

I'm still waiting for it to arrive to The Esplanade in Singapore, in whatever form (traditional, or modern re-invention). I WATCHED a filmed play, but as Beckett says: "My play was meant for little men in a big space, not for that small box" or something along the lines of that.

Speaking of "Waiting for Godot" and how awesome it is, wasn't there some guy who made a non-canon sequel called "Godot arrives" and he was a baker?

That pissed me off.

I think there's another reference in the second trial:
Quote:
:udgy: Godot! I warned you about making me wait!

And speaking of the play... my mother told me that she had to read it when she was studying and it was terribly boring. But she read the book in French, so...

I think I'll ask someone to get it for me for Christmas. Even though it'll be forever before I pick it up. I'm in the middle of a 19 book series right now. And more to come after that. <_<;
Uh, no. There was no sequal written by a baker. All sequals to Waiting for Godot are unauthorized, but were written by authors. Godo je došao (Godot Arrived) by Miodrag Bulatović, a Serbian novelist and playwright, and Godot Arrives, by Daniel Curzon. Apparently, from what I've read, Curzon is a gay writer. I'd rather not do any more research than that...
Oh...

Well, I knew it was unauthorized and such, but I felt that it was just such a fanwank that I got angry. Also, I remembered something about baked goods, and attempted to slyly slip that into the conversation. :hotti:
