When playing case 5 and learning that Godot couldn't see Red on White, I'd quickly thought of Redd White, as we all know did end Mia's life.

Looking at the Japanese name, it doesn't seem to have that reference.

A bit of a twist don't you think?

So what do you think, accidental or very careful naming on the part of the dubbers?
I have nothing remotely interesting to go here as of yet.

I imagine it was totally accidental... But that is an incredibly eerie coincidence.. I never even thought of it.

Now you've got me wondering if they did it on purpose (seeing as GS3 was long finished when they did the English translations)!

Regardless, I do like the irony.

Total coincidence.

But to turn this thread into a somewhat meaningful discussion, any theories on why Godot can't see red on white?

My theory is that he actually sees everything red, or sort of through a red lens, so his brain basically filters that color out.

when he said he can't see red on white I think it's more likely that he just can't see red.

Well, he did say that his eyesight wasn't 100% fixed, even with the visor.

Obviously a coincidence.

Capcom's translation team probably had no idea who Godot was during the localization of part 1.

Totally a coincidence. I don't think the devs had planned for 3 when translating 1.

I'm sure that's a big, fat 99.9%-coincidence. The remaining .01% is something of a mystery. We know that it's almost likely to have been a coincidence but we can't get into the localization team's minds so there's still that odd percent out.

Tis a coincidence.

I think that he sees everything in red, so when he looks at red on white, the red sort of blends into the background, being invisible to him.

Here's a better question: can Godot even SEE The Tiger? Is he a big blur with black hair and a collar?

Is THAT how he knew it wasn't Phoenix, because Tigre just looks like The Invisible Man to him??

Tigre is more of a dark orange.
It's just a coincidence, what would it even mean if it wasn't?

Damnit Croik I was just about to ask that question XDDD

"In my world, the color red doesn't exist."

Godot said that something like that. That means he can't see the color red at all.

He said that alright, but have you thought it thoroughly? Maybe he meant that he saw everything in shades of red (and black of course), but because of that, he couldn't really point out red things. In that case, that sentence he said would make sense. After all, if you look at a red stain on something through red glasses, you won't really see it.

And think about it: Godot has red "lenses" in his visor. So he sees everything as red, but he can't point out what's really red.

Right. And on top of that, if you wear red lenses for long enough, your brain adapts to it and filters the red out altogether. So while technically he sees everything in red, he wouldn't perceive any red at all.

Tigre would probably look dark grey/brown.

I'm still disappointed that they never get to play up the fact that
Spoiler:
Godot wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Iris and (living) Dahlia, since their hair would look the same to him. :ayame: :that-b-word:

Actually, it wouldn't work that way in regards to your spoiler comment. As you guys said, the reason he can't see red on white is because the red blends in with the white background, hence the red is a bright white color. However, with Dahlia and Iris, the latter has black hair, which I am sure, would be seen as a very dark reddish color while the hue on Dahila would look like a light red hue.

Yeah, anyone who's ever had one of those books with the red-coloured spectacles (did I just say spectacles? What the hell? I meant glasses) as a kid will know that you'll see red as a sorta-white if you wear them for long enough. Red on black still shows up, but it just looks whitish.

You can also see the same effect if you go into Photoshop, take any image with white and red (and some other stuff, if you like) and put a red layer over it with Blend mode: Multiply (or Darken). Insta-Godot-o-vision! :godot:

It is like the old 80s transformers stat bar that was included with each toy. In each generation 1 transformers toy, a red film was included so that one can see the stats bar (located on the back of The pacage) of the Transformers correctly. The red film makes the red line that distorts the stats to a whitish color, makin it "invisible." So, the only other color that is left is the blue line, which looks like a dark greyish red color under the red film.

Image

Also, the Indiana Jones and the last Cursade adventure game by Lucasarts had something similar where you are given a several papers of symbols and a giant red film and in order to play the full version, you have to use the red film and go over the symbols to see which one is real and which one is fake. The ones that show up after the red film is over the paper are the ones you click in at the password screen. If you do it correctly, the game will let you play the full version as oppose to the demo version; you get the demo version if you incorrectly put in the password.

Well, Phoenix points out that he can't see red on a WHITE background... which makes me think that any red he sees is made white.

So, in a way, what he says makes sense, since to him they'd be white...

Tigre is more of a dark orange.

That may be right... but I think he still wouldn't be able to see 'dark orange' because it's too close to red. Or maybe it's faded or something.

How about Desiree? She'd be a blur. Also, I find it ironic how, as Diego Armando, he wore a red shirt.

Well I'm thinking that if red is removed the colour it's imposed on is the only one that shows up, so perhaps anything with a pigment of red in it would be removed, maybe Tigre becomes yellow and Desiree is white?
And it is ironic for him to lose the ability to see red, to add to his misfortune he can't see, or wear, his favourite colour.

This makes most sense than anything I heard, right up there with Godot's brain just canceling out the color.
Well, actually I went to the doctor I when giving me a eye test she said like that Men kinda can't see Red or green together sometimes. Not sure if those were the colors exactly but maybe it's the same effect with Godot?

Maybe. But that thing with men can't see red or green is a form of color blindness, which males are more likely to have than women. I recall in psychology class that some men are not totally color blind as in they can detect color, but not red or green. That is why there are those color test where a colored number made up of dots in embedded in a different color background. So, that is probably what your doctor meant.
