Just out of curiosity, why was the Japanese Cold Killer Z changed to Cold Killer X for the US? They're both medicines, and they both did the same thing in the first case of GS3. So, if it's the same thing, then why was hte letter changed? Did it have to do with Japanese limits, or did somehow a Japanese Z come to translate to the US as being an X?

I think in Japan Z is the most common letter used to say "this is exactly like *thing* but better", while America typically uses X for that purpose.

My first thoughts, Japan has got Dragonball Z, while America has the X-men. Way I see it, Japan likes to use the Z to make things sound cooler while America loves the use of the letter X. Besides, nothing beats the mysterious X-gene.
On April 3, 2016, Court Records Forums experienced a miracle upon that day.

This may not make the most sense but I have theory of why they changed the Z into a X:

On American TV, The Letter Z is often tacked on the concept of sleeping or something sleep related. Z's are commonly used to represent snoring which means the characters is asleep.

X are often used on the concepts of extremes or death which varies each case. When a character faints or "dies" in an american cartoons, an "X" are in each of the characters eyes. Also, the crossbones in the Death related Skull and Crossbones are often connected to fact they look like an X.

The usage of X and Z in the ways mentioned above has used for many year (can be track back to 1930's films) and has become seeded in traditional entertainment tools. Which in turns causes society to unknowingly associate X with death and Z with sleeping.

The case is that Cold Killer Z would sounds more like a sleeping medicine that works on removing cold while Cold Killer X sound like a medicine that would literally "Kill" the cold. Or at least, that's how the average American audience member might come to understand the name.

The change really is more Cosmic to be more appealing to the audience more than Functional really. :yuusaku:

It really is just a quirky regional difference.

In the American cartoon Powerpuff Girls, the girls gained their power from Chemical X. In the anime adaptation of the Powerpuff Girls, they gained their power from Chemical Z.

I'm inclined to agree with the Visorguy fan, here.

It's probably just an insignificant change that has no real meaning.

"Cold Killer Ex"
"Cold Killer Zee/Zed"

Cold Killer X has a better ring to it.

Probably because X comes before Z, and there's no Z on a graphing plane in Geometry.

And Capcom's staff is full of Geometry teachers who found this oversight disgraceful. Plus, they're all comic book whores who love X-men.

There's a Z in graphing SPACE though!
Also, I read that the letters X and Z imply speed in medicine names, eg: Ex-Lax.

Coldkiller GX vs. Coldkiller Z.

Everybody run away!

Also, why wouldn't they make it Coldkiller X? Maybe a homage to Capcom's "Megaman X" series???

i prefer coldkillerZ than coldkillerX only for one thing
the pronunciation in spanish
when we pronunce the Z we say /zeta/ and for the X we say /equis/
and i must admit, than the X in spanish is a little weird, so i prefer the coldkillerz
and yeah, i say coldkiller in english and z in spanish xD
all of yours would prefer the X bcz you pronunce /EX/ and the Z /ZED/ or something like that
understandable, no? :jake:

I always thought Coldkiller X was named for "Brand X", a generic brand of something. Makes no sense compared to Coldkiller Z, though, I guess. ^^;; Unless there's Brand Z in Japan.

Also, why doesn't CR have Coldkiller X and Z emoticons? Coldkillers of all letters need some love! My attempts (minus transparent backgrounds :P):
