I didn't think I'd ever comfortably ship Phoenix with anybody. He just seems more like the loner type, but Phoenix/Iris is a nice pair.

Poor girl doesn't even have any official art that I can think of. ;_; Sometimes I wonder if the writers really thought of her as more of a plot device than a viable love interest.

I prefer Canon Pairings though, like "Magically Delicious" (Phoenix/Iris) and "Hot Coffee" (Mia/Armado). XD

Iris's purpose in the narrative was to tie up plot points. Or to put it a more gentle way, she was there to provide closure for the story of Phoenix's college romance. In that respect, no, I don't think she was ever meant to be a viable love interest, because all the emphasis put on her is what she and Phoenix were, not future hopes.
I think Iris and Phoenix are a bit more workable than P/M at this point--this game really went the extra mile to sink it in the English version, it almost seems to me--but there are still a metric ton of issues they'd have to work through.
And, hey, issues can be interesting, but my point is that it's not just a matter of "Feenie loves her". Iris, for all her love of him, lied to him the entire time they were dating. She didn't contact him at all after her sister tried to murder him. Their lives are also very different now, and there's no indication that she's going to pack up being a shrine maiden for him.
And, personally, I think she's a more interesting character away from Phoenix. Most of what I adore about her has very little to do with her as a love interest for Phoenix and more to do with her complicated, conflicted characterization.

Well, that's just her character. Iris tried to go for the bloodless solution, and lying to Phoenix was the only way to do it. She was keeping him alive by lying to him, so I think it can be excused.

Well, she dated him under the pretence of being Dahlia. Phoenix most probably would not believe Iris if she popped up and said she was Dahlia's twin and had really been dating him all along. To be honest, who would?
And, well, yeah. I just like the Phoenix/Iris pairing because it's so sweet it gives me cavities . Not to mention they blush around each other so much it's embarrassing.

Well, personally, I think it's a bit more complicated than that, especially with the themes of "truth" being so important in these games. I think she probably told herself it was to protect him, but in reality, it was more to protect herself.

Why wouldn't he believe her? He believed her five years later. It's the only thing that made sense, plus Dahlia would have been in jail at that point.

As a past-tense thing, they're great. I'd love to see FeeniexDahlia!Iris fics from Iris' point of view.. But after 3-5, I think they both end up in very different places. Iris seems pretty well settled as a shrine maiden.. And well, if you're into GS4 spoilers, you know what becomes of Phoenix. I just can't see it working out in the long run.

In my opinion, I think between the events in GS3 and GS4, Iris may have probably chose to dedicate her life as a shrine nun/maiden to atone for the sins of her family. Probably Bikini's back got the best of her and as a result, could no longer take care of Hazakurin. Therefore, Iris may left looking over Hazakurin andBikini, if she is still alive in GS4.

Well, what I meant to say was that he was really in love with Dahlia at that point, and probably wouldn't think logically. Did you see what Phoenix did after the trial? He still refused to believe that Dahlia was evil, which would probably lead him to not believe Iris. And, to be honest, he was a bit of an idiot at that point. Probably wouldn't believe her on principle.

Anyway, PW4 is not a true sequel. IMO it's a totally different story from the Phoenix trilogy. All the old characters and stuff just fade away, which stinks.

Yeah... Iris probably dyed it red so she looked more like Dahlia. But then you couldn't tell that it's Iris, that's why her hair is black. It's a significant detail that explains who you're looking at in this picture.

And curse the damn writers for playing with my heart like this, they introduce a very likeable character, whose blushing animation is the cutest thing I've ever seen, and they use her as a disposable plot device. Not fair, not fucking fair.
I don't think I've been this attached to a character since Planescape: Torment and Hotel Dusk.
I don't even care if she never gets back with Phoenix, I just want to see more of her. How long could she possibly be in jail for being an accomplice?

I liked Iris, too, but I didn't think the game gave any indication that she and Phoenix were going to end up together. I'm not sure even the writers like her enough for that to happen. She has no official character art, she's never pictured with the rest of the cast, she's not in the final sketch that shows Phoenix with all his friends... The focus is so much heavier on Phoenix and his "family." I think if they really wanted Phoenix/Iris together, they would have done more to show that Iris was just as important to him as Maya was, but I don't think they did that.
